This ball for me fits right in between the phase 2 and the IQ solid. This is going to be another great bench mark ball, blends the lanes incredibly well. Shot 300 out of box with it when making my review video.

With Roto Grip’s discontinuing the Optimum Idol from the HP3 line, we were left wondering what the replacement would be. Look no farther than the ROCK STAR! The Rock Star features the all new Rocker AI Core and NanoStar Solid cover. I decided to drill mine 4.5 x 4 and after throwing this ball for awhile and watching others throw it, I know this is going to be a huge hit. It has the similar overall strength as the Optimum Idol and Phase 2 but has a little more shape down lane than those balls. The Optimum Idol is my favorite ball in my bag and goes with me to every tournament and I find that the Rock Star is the perfect ball down for me from it and is more of a benchmark ball in the line. If you are looking a benchmark ball with a little more shape down lane than a Phaze 2 or just a replacement for the Optimum Idol, pick up the Rock Star today and get your rock on !

The Roto Grip Rock Star features the Nano Star Solid reactive cover stock wrapped around the Rocker+ AI Core. This ball is a hook monster. It comes out of the box at 2000 grit Abralon which was too much for me on a typical house shot. I took the surface up to 3000 on a spinner and this ball really shined. The surface change gave the ball the length I needed to get through the heads and when this ball hit the pocket it sounded like an explosion, this ball hits like a truck. Another great ball from the Roto Grip line of products.

The Roto Grip Rockstar is the kind of ball that gives you confidence the moment you roll it. It has a clean look through the front, a strong mid-lane read, and a controlled but decisive backend motion that makes it easy to trust shot after shot. The Rockstar + A.I. Core helps it rev up quickly without being too jumpy, while the NanoStar Solid Reactive Coverstock gives it just the right amount of length and traction on medium/long oil patterns. I love how versatile this ball is—it’s great as a go-to option when the lanes start transitioning, letting me stay in the pocket without drastic moves. It’s not overly aggressive, but it still has enough pop to finish strong at the pins, making it a great benchmark ball for league and tournament play. If you’re looking for something reliable with a smooth, controlled shape, the Rockstar is a great addition to any arsenal. Go to your local SPI proshop and get yours on 2/21!

Let’s get ready to ROCK! The Rockstar utilizes the new NanoStar solid cover and Rocker symmetric core with A.I. technology. The Rockstar will provide a smooth reaction for both league and tournament bowlers on medium to heavy conditions. This benchmark ball will help you make the best decisions and it can be easily sanded/shined to create the best reaction possible.
The Rockstar gave me a great look sliding on 25, looking 15 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 7-8. I was able to play multiple angles by changing my speed and hand position. It also did an excellent job blending out the wet/dry on our high friction house pattern. When compared to the Optimum Idol Pearl, it was earlier and rounder with more overall hook. The Rockstar feels very similar to the Optimum Idol, but a touch cleaner with more continuation. It will be one of the first balls out of my bag no matter what condition I’m bowing on. I’ve had great success with solid HP3 balls from Roto Grip in the past and can’t wait to put the Rockstar to the test in league and tournaments. The Rockstar will fit below the Xcell and above the Optimum Idol Pearl. Stop by your local Storm VIP pro shop to check it out! Available on February 21.

Roto Grip’s new Rockstar is a Solid Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Heavy Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a Fresh 43’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a smooth backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the X-Cell. X-Cell was 2-2 Left of the Rockstar. Rockstar went a few feet further through the mids compared to the X-Cell. This piece fits between the X-Cell and the Optimum Idol. This piece will be good for all types of styles.

The Rockstar is a new symmetrical solid HP3 Roto Grip ball. WOW! This ball is a lot easier through the heads than I thought it would be, but it still picks up pretty early! Compared to the Optimum Idol, the Rockstar doesn’t try to change directions as much off the friction and is a little slower, but still continuous. Overall I have the Rockstar pretty similar to the Optimum Idol, just a little cleaner/slower.
I will throw the Rockstar a lot. It’s very usable and is a little cleaner than some of the recent releases.

The new Roto Grip Rockstar brings an all-new core and coverstock to create this new controllable benchmark shape reaction. The new Rocker core provides a low RG with a moderately high Differential. Compared to some of the more recent, SPI releases, the Rockstar has slightly less differential for a solid cover bowling ball. The new Nano-Star solid coverstock gives medium strength and a very controllable motion desired on more medium type lane conditions. The controllable motion gives vibes of that benchmark type shape. It is very easy to read this ball's motion when it comes to bowling on a variety of lane conditions. I was able to test this on my 44ft Typical House Pattern.
When I tried the Rockstar on the fresh, I can tell immediately that it wasn't the strongest ball in the Lineup. The Nano-Star coverstock falls in the middle of overall strength between the E-Trax and Mictrotrax coverstocks. The shape of this ball was pretty much as described. Easy length, stronger midlane read and very smooth down lane. Compared to an Optimum Idol Solid, the Rockstar cleared the front much easier and was overall weaker by about 4-5 boards. The Rockstar was not quite strong enough for my style to use as well on the fresh. It was decently strong in the midlane but on 44ft, it had some trouble slowing down as much to go through the pins. For me the ideal conditions of this ball would be closer to 40ft and less. It would give that control needed for the shorter oil length. On my house pattern, this would be more of a game 2 ball for me if I still needed to control the lane. An Optimum Idol Solid would be a much better option for me in game 1.
I would recommend this ball for bowlers who want a new ball on the fresh where the pattern length is medium length and shorter or who have low oil volume who want backend control. I think on heavy volume, this ball would have trouble unless you tend to use a lot more surface on it. I believe straighter angles are the way to go with this ball so bowlers who like to be closer to the friction who are more down and in will enjoy this ball most often.

The Rockstar features the NanoStar Solid Reactive cover, Rocker + A.I. Core, and comes at
2000-grit surface. This is the newest Roto Grip ball and features a new cover and core. The
cover is supposed to be a bit cleaner than your normal nano cover. This ball is going to be your
typical symmetrical solid benchmark ball. This ball is going to be in the range of the Phaze 2 but
not as quick down the lane as a Phaze 2. The Rockstar seems like it is more round shape down
lane than what I see out of a Phaze 2. I have thrown this ball quite a bit since I drilled it, and it is
good. I usually do not like symmetrical solids but this one shapes really good for me. This ball is
a home run from Roto Grip.

Rock Star:
Controllable and predictability are the main features of the Rock Star. Cleaner than an Optimum Idol yet smoother than a Phaze 2 this ball fits perfectly between these 2 popular releases. If you like to play your angles closed and closer to the right (for righties) this ball will be a great option to have.
I mainly will be using this for sport conditions of shorter to medium ranges; however, I found success (including 300) with this on house conditions that play tighter and have more oil. This ball will take well to surface adjustments as well, if you need it to pick up sooner or later. Its versatility will allow adaptability to what the lane conditions are providing you. These benchmark type of balls are a must have for the competitive bowler.
Equinox:
This is close to a VEBO replacement although a tad smoother. If you like clean and angular motions the Equinox will be a great ball to have. Marketed as designed for most house conditions this ball will be able to be utilized on fresh and transition. I scuffed mine to 3000 to smooth out the backend and make it more usable on the fresh without being too angular. I have found for those conditions where the lanes hook early and play tighter on the backend this ball is a great option to go to as it will clear the front yet be strong enough in the mid's to allow it to give you continuation through the pins.

Roto Grip Rockstar
Pattern: 41 Ft house shot
Layout: 55 x 4 x 35
Surface: Box (2000 grit)
The new Roto Grip Rockstar is a great symmetrical piece to add to the bag. The Rockstar features the new Rocker weight block combined with the signature A.I. core which allows players the option to play up the boards or swing the lane based on how they have it drilled. The new NanoStar Cover allows this ball to fit right in between the previous MicroTrax and ETrax covers by not being too early or too responsive. The versatility of this ball is unique for sure. When throwing it on the 41 ft house shot, I was able to play straighter up the boards and open up the lane when needed. The recovery on this ball allows it to be very forgiving as well. Overall, bowlers of all styles should be able to add the Rockstar to the bag and score with it.

Introducing Roto Grips newest addition to the HP3 line, the Rock Star! This ball is featured with a brand new symmetrical Rocker core and Nanostar solid coverstock to bring more control, more versatility, and more continuation through the pins. Low RG, high differential provides this new benchmark ball to give more strength on a variety of patterns from medium to heavy conditions. Layout: 70 x 5 3/8 x 40, 2000 abralon surface. I tested the Rockstar at my home center at Cortlandt Lanes in Cortlandt Manor, NY. Bowling on a fresh 43ft league pattern, the Rock Star didn’t disappoint. I saw similar ball motion in comparison to both my Optimum Idol and Summit Ascent (both drilled with the same layout as the Rock Star). The ball motion gave more length, stronger mid lane read, and real smooth down lane. If I had to put these three symmetrical solid balls in order, I would have the Optimum Idol first, Rockstar second, and Summit Ascent third. The Idol is a little bit stronger downlane, as it can clear a few extra boards on the fresh. Proceeding to the transition, the Rock Star can then create more shape, more control and more backend across the boards. The Summit Ascent was a little smoother, but weaker with the downlane motion. I would recommend the Rock Star as an upgrade to the Optimum Idol in the HP3 line. The Rock Star would benefit those bowling on medium-heavy lane conditions pending surface adjustments. Be sure to stop by your local pro shop today and drill one up. Party like a Rock Star! Thomas Coco Storm Staffer

There’s a new ball available in the HP3 line from Roto Grip. A new core and cover combo that gives this line what it’s been missing while keeping what it’s done right. The nano star cover continues the ultra reliable mid-lane read that was exemplified by the idol line but along with the new Rocker core adds down-lane motion and continuation. The result is a ball that will see the right part of the lane, the right way, on a variety of conditions.
I tested the Rock Star for the first time in league on our fresh house condition. I was relieved to see the familiar roll that I rely on the combat the length of our house pattern and was a little shocked at how much the ball hooked off the spot. Too often I’m sacrificing one for the other so my speed and angles have to be more precise. I made an adjustment right and picked the speed up to keep it right of the head pin. I was slower than I like to admit figuring out that I didn’t have to try to stay as far right as I was. I paid the penalty a couple times for relaxing the ball speed. When the transition forced me left anyway I realized this ball was going the continue much better than I expected and I could have made the move left sooner. By the end of game three I stopped looking for the time when I needed to get out of the ball and into something shinier. I really didn’t even have to trick it any more than I do the stronger pearls in that part of the lane, this ball just keeps coming down-lane.
I came back a couple days later to shoot a reaction video and picked up right where I had left off in league. I caught the lane after a league had bowled and put a couple more games on it while recording shots. Didn’t have to loft the front of the lane like I sometimes do, or try to muscle it right to get the speed up. It was one of the quickest vids I’ve ever shot. This ball is gonna be a hot seller for the pro shops, it’s got that easy to match up to motion that you get from Zens and phase IIs.

I drilled the new Roto Grip Rock 5x4x2 to give me a nice smooth motion. This ball is a new core/cover combo with nanoStar solid wrapped around the new Rocker A.I. Core. This ball fits in the optimum idol category as far as reaction goes. This ball will give you a nice early motion but still retain enough energy to continue through the pins. I plan on this ball being the 2nd ball out of my bag in tournaments to combat those heavy volume patterns. For leagues, I'd recommend hitting this ball with a 3000, 4000 or even polish to keep the ball from burning up too early. This ball works great for me! I highly recommend!

This might make anyone drop the mic! I want to first mention that the Rockstar and the Attention Star are not in the same line even though they share the “STAR” name. I have been struggling at one of our centers with the cliff that forms just after practice. It really tamed the over/under or cliff that I have had a hard time with. This ball makes you look like a Rockstar with the right amount of everything that has been done with this ball. As a ball from the HP3 line with surface to me it picks up much quicker than other balls you would think of like the Idols which were much slower. Over the past couple of weeks this ball has really shined and has made my bag that goes everywhere.

The Rockstar is Roto Grips newest HP3 ball. The Rockstar has big shoes to fill with the recently discontinued Optimum Idol. The Rockstar features Nano Star solid wrapped around the Rocker AI core. I’ve been looking for a symmetrical medium to strong ball from SPI that would be more versatile than the Optimum Idol. I believe I’ve found it in the new Roto Grip Rockstar. The Rockstar features a brand new coverstock called NanoStar that has the nano particles found in Roto Grip balls. The particles always help with traction to bite into the oil pattern. The new NanoStar cover fits between the MicroTrax (on Optimum and RST-X1) and eTrax (Attention Star, S2, X-Cell and RST-X2) covers. As a result, it’s a little cleaner through the front than the Optimum Idol and more versatile depending on whether you shine the Rockstar or hit it with some surface. The Rockstar also features a brand new AI core called the Rocker which is a strong symmetrical core that provides more continuation through the pin deck. Bottom line, this is a great ball that can fit many spots in your bag from the strong side to the clean side of the middle of your bag and everywhere in between. I drilled mine pin up, 4 ½ from my PAP.

Symmetrical Core
Roto Grip Rockstar features and new core called Rocker with AI Technology wrapped with the new Nanostar Solid Reactive Coverstock. The Rocker core is a low rg symmetrical weight block which produces a very continuous but predictable ball motion.
The new Nanostar coverstock will fall between Microtrax and E-Trax base coverstocks. The Rocker is a very versatile ball which will allow you to play straighter or move left and create more angle.
The Rockstar will fall in the strong benchmark category.
I compared the Rockstar to the Optimum Idol Solid,X-Cell and Attention Star S2.The Rockstar compared to the Optimum Idol Solid will be cleaner with a sharper move on the backend.
I feel like the Rockstar will be fall below the Attention Star series and X-Cell and above the Idol series balls.

Great ball for sports shots. Hits heavy.

I picked up the Roto Grip Rockstar in 14 pounds, and it’s been great on medium to heavy oil. The Rocker Core (RG 2.50, Diff 0.046) and NanoStar Solid cover at 2000-grit give it a smooth, steady roll. It moves cleanly through the fronts, picks up in the midlane, and arcs into the pocket without any sudden jumps—just predictable control. The crimson/jet/maroon color scheme looks great, nothing too wild. On our house shot, it handles oil well and doesn’t overreact on drier spots. I’m a mid-rev bowler (around 325 RPMs), and it fits me perfectly. Swinging it wide, it comes back fine, though it’s not a sharp backend ball. That’s more my preference anyway—less aggressive than some big-hook options. It reminds me of my Optimum Idol, but it’s cleaner and doesn’t grab as early.

Mine is Pin down, in my ring finger, out of the box, 759 with a 289 (10 pin) yeah, I love how this ball rolls. AND YES...you can watch this ball roll and read the lane like no other. I had no skid flip with this ball, its nice and smooth, and like I said really easy to read and really easy to move off of. Is there anything better? I keep it at box finish and very excited to throw it. I can't wait to try it on some sport patterns. It's just an easy ball to throw and a ball to read. It's a heavy/medium oil ball that rolls. The new Rock Star is amazing!!! I love it!
The new ball in RG HP3 line is the Roto Grip Rock Star. With all new NanoStar™ coverstock material is our latest nanotechnology remix and with the new Rocker core and A.I. Core technology.
My feeling the intent from Storm HQ was to develop a benchmark ball in the RG line, similar to say a Storm
Phaze 2. I drilled mine 4.75x4x1.75 pin up. Man all I can say is this ball just strikes. The cover is a little on early side like a phaze 2 but it has very good response down lane. Its a very strong arc motion, and just goes through the pins amazing. I was fortunate to shoot 300-804 off the press with the Rock Star on a 46ft modified house pattern. I played up the lane around the track area. If I leaked it to the dry it just stood up and rolled a little forward and still went through the pins. If I missed in a little in the puddle it was still strong enough to respond down lane. I keep the surface around 2000 abralon. Very good bench mark ball. Its stronger than overall than the IDOL line to me but it different parts of the lane. It has more pop off the friction down lane than the IDOL. Not quite as strong as the bigger asyms like Attention Star S2 or ION Max. But stronger than Summit Ascent or the ION PRO. Great Ball period and a must for everyone's arsenal.

The all new Roto Grip Rock Star has been a BEAST on the lanes in league play for me in the past 4
weeks. The motion is very easy to read, not jumpy, humpy, or bumpy. Stronger than my Roto Grip X-Ray
with identical layout, but more length and not as quick to jump off the pattern as my Optimum Idol with a
similar layout of 3x6x1. Similar in overall performance as a Hyped solid on fresh, but as the pattern
breaks down, the Hyped Solid would be put away, the Rock Star stays on the rack for all 3 games. The
only other ball in recent memory like this is the Storm Equinox, where just making small adjustments
allows me to stay in the ball longer and not have to deal with a ball change so quickly. The lowest league
match has been 696 and the highest was 778, my current average is 212. The Rock Star is what I call a
“keeper” where one will be in my league bag and as bigger tournaments are on the horizon, a second
Rock Star will be drilled for tournaments. Current league bag is now as follows - Rock Star, Equinox, and
Attention Star S2. Now only bringing that ONE back to league - because these 3 balls cover everything I need in league
Chase Valenzuela Mar 6, 2025
To me, the RockStar had big shoes to fill. It comes in on the heels of the Optimum Idol being discontinued, and I had high expectations. So far, this ball has really stood up to those expectations. While it's not an exact replacement for the Optimum Idol, it fills a similar spot in the bag and provides a great compliment to the Phaze 2 and the Summit Ascent. The Phaze 2 is stronger on the back part of the lane, while the RockStar is earlier and more rounded. Both are stronger than the Summit Ascent, thought the RockStar has a very similar, almost tumbly shape like the Ascent. These 3 really cover all your bases, and if you're missing that early, predictable symmetrical pice or you've worn out your Optimum Idol and need a comparable replacement, this is the ball you're looking for!
-Chase Valenzuela
The Rockstar definitely provides a new and improved motion and reaction for me that I haven’t seen since the Optimum Idol was released. I did not think I was going to find another symmetrical ball I loved more than the Optimum Idol but I should know better because that’s what this company does, they keep creating banger after banger. The new NanoStar coverstock material might be one of my new favorite coverstocks. It provides similar traction in the midlane to that of the legendary MicroTrax material but does not dig into the lane as early. The Rocker Core provides a more centralized rotation plane to better provide more continuation through the pin deck for all skill levels. This ball has also allowed me to start a little straighter and as the lanes transition I can move left with it and it still plows through the pins. This ball is going to be the Most Underrated Ball of the year. Don’t sleep on the HP3 line of balls.

Review:
The Rockstar features a second generation core design with A.I. technology building off of the Optimum Idol. Essentially, this means to the bowler is more length and more motion off the spot compared to previous releases in this category.
You'll also keep hearing that A.I. technology provides up to five-percent more carry on off hits. Keep in mind the cover is Nanostar which is one of the more aggressive coverstocks RG offers.
The Rockstar is proving as an excellent symmetric option for fresher lanes. We are already witnessing/reading how well the Rockstar is performing at the World Series of Bowling. In addition, working several SPI MatchMaker events the Rockstar is proving to be a great #1 option in the arsenal.
A good ball to compare the Rockstar to is the Optimum Idol. For me the Optimum Idol was a tad earlier and smoother. Also, the Optimum Idol for me would tend to burn up early and to the eye not go through the pins the way I ideally wanted on transitioning patterns. However, the Rockstar at the OOB finish is perfectly fine and I'm more pleased than I initially thought from reviewing the specs. To point out the Rockstar minor adjustments compared to the Optimum Idol make this a must have ball. SPI definitely has been listening and made those slight tweaks to give the bowler a better experience.
I prefer the the Rockstar smoother shape compared to other offerings. This is due to my personal preference for smoother arc type reactions for tournament play. Roto Grip Rock Star
Layout: 4.5 x 4.0 x 1.5 Storm Pin Buffer Layout
Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation
Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume)
Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center
IKON Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane
The Roto Grip Rock Star utilizes the Nano Star solid reactive cover along with the Rocker A.I. Core. The Roto Grip Rock Star was an afterthought for me. I was late to the party to drill one but I am so glad that I did. I have thrown the Roto Grip Rock Star a bunch in the last two weeks. I have thrown it at the Greater Ozarks Tournament, a local best-ball tournament, and in league. The Roto Grip Rock Star has looked great at all three arenas, in different bowling centers that I tend to struggle in.
My tournament arsenal (current)
1. Storm Ion Max
2. Storm Physix Blackout
3. 900 Global Origin
4. Roto Grip Attention Star S2 and Roto Grip Rock Star
5. Roto Grip Attention Star and Storm Equinox
6. Storm iQ Tour A.I
7. Road Warrior
8. Storm iQ 78U

The layout on my Rockstar is 55 x 4 1/4 x 20.
The Roto Grip Rockstar is a great additional benchmark for medium oil patterns. I know that this will be one of the first out of my bag that I can go to show to provide me versatility and predictability on fresh oil conditions. This is a step down from the Optimum Idol. Since the Optimum Idol is earlier and smoother, with the new Nanostar coverstock, the Rockstar provides more downlane motion, and the Rocker core provides more great continuation through the pin deck. This ball allows me to play multiple angles, such as playing a more direct line to the pocket, or create shape from right to left. This ball definitely goes with me everywhere and is actually fun for me to roll!

The new Roto Grip Rockstar features a new core in the Rocker A.I. wrapped in a new coverstock, the NanoStar solid reactive. At 15 pounds the Rockstar has a low RG of 2.48 and a differential of .050. and a finish of 2000 grit abralon. This ball is the benchmark symmetrical reaction I have been missing in my bag for some time now. The Rockstar does not read as early as the Optimum Idol did but is not as quick in response time to the Hustle line or other pearl symmetricals. This is one of those balls, that I like to say won’t wow you anywhere but on the score sheet. It isn’t the most hooking ball, or the most skid/flip backend reaction. All it does is control the lane and give outstanding, consistent ball reaction and pin carry. The Rockstar is the perfect ball for medium to medium/heavy oil conditions. It is very controllable and readable and will work from many parts of the lane depending on the style bowler. This is a ball that will give you a lot of use on many different lane conditions.

The Roto Grip Rockstar is a true staple in my bag! It gives me the option to start out right and migrate left during transition. For me, this ball is a staple and goes with me to most tournaments to get that smooth arcy motion that I was missing in the bag for a long time!

The Roto Grip Rockstar is a good benchmark for medium oil patterns! The 4 x 4 x 2 layout seems to be working well for you on medium oil patterns. It's impressive that the Rockstar handles the mid-lanes transition effectively while storing power for the back end. Being able to play multiple angles, whether it's a direct line to the pocket or creating shape from right to left, gives you a lot of versatility. The way it throws pins around the pin deck effortlessly must be quite satisfying to watch!
The Rockstar from Roto Grip is the newest addition to the HP3 line and it’s very, very good. I recently competed in the World Series of Bowling in Reno and I was able to use this ball on each pattern with varying lengths between 38’ to 47’. Our masterminds in Utah developed a new NanoStar Coverstock along with a new ROCKER core. There’s A.I. core technology that now gives players an extremely smooth but continuous shape that most players strive for.
I’ve drilled two so far and really like both. They both have very similar layouts (5.5 x 4.5 x 1). The CG is just under my ring finger but the pin is “tall” above my ring finger. The biggest difference between the two layouts is the surface. I shined one with the Storm Power Edge polish and hit the other one with a 1000 pad. They compliment each other super well and I know these can be successful on a multitude of patterns.
The Rockstar is a perfect ball to use after the IonMax and Origin do their job, but before you’ll need to get into a Road Warrior or HyperDrive. This ball will be in my league and tournament bag for the foreseeable future and I’m excited to have the opportunity to use it!
Go drill one!

Rock Star - Ball Specs
Cover Stock: Nano Star Solid Reactive
Finish: 2000 Grit Abralon
Rocker. Core
Layout: 65 x 5 x 35
RG: 2.48
Differential: 0.050
Review
The new Roto Grip Rock Star has the new Nano Star cover stock wrapped around the new rocker core with AI technology. The Rock Star’s RG is 2.48 with a differential of 0.50, which makes it a little earlier than the Optimum Idol Solid and smoother on the back end. This consistent reaction will be great of medium oil patterns (house patterns). It will perform at a high level in the track area and out to the gutter. This ball is a must have for league and tournament bowlers. Now available for order at your local pro shop! My ball reviews are posted on YouTube channel Stanley Waite.

Website:
The Roto Grip Rockstar is a recent addition to Roto Grip's HP3 line, designed to offer bowlers a versatile option on medium to heavy oil conditions. It features the new NanoStar™ Solid Reactive coverstock and the ROCKER™ Core, both engineered to provide a unique ball motion and reaction.
Coverstock and Core:
The NanoStar™ Solid Reactive coverstock is a new formulation that bridges the gap between Roto Grip's MicroTrax™ and eTrax™ materials. This coverstock offers strong midlane traction similar to MicroTrax™ but with increased responsiveness to friction downlane, providing a smoother and more controlled backend reaction. The ROCKER™ Core, enhanced with A.I. Core technology, is designed to centralize the rotation plane, promoting better continuation through the pin deck.
My Take:
Wow! holy flare and control RotoMan!
Playing the track 14 -10 - 6 board. My comfort zone.
Drilled mine stronger than my Subline Focus and Optimum Idol (4 1/2" pin to pap) which have a more forward pronounced roll. This ball has a more defined motion for me in box finish. I may have to take cover up to 3000/4000 abralon for my lower revrate to get a full 3 games.
I tested it against my Axiom Solid and they have similar motion up to the midline, but I feel the A.I. tech gives it an edge going to the breakpoint and pin deck. The Nano cover in my opinion is just as strong an NEX solid. I did try to open up my angles, but it was better playing tighter for me.
Great game one on the fresh THS choice. Depending on your speed and lane typography/transition you may get 3 full games with the OOB cover. Still smooth and predictable with that midlane control. I suggest altering the cover for a wider range of use.
Performance:
Overall I give this an 8.5 for now. Hopefully this will be my Idol replacement for in my bag for a long time.
The Roto Grip Rockstar is a solid benchmark ball that offers control and predictability on medium to heavy oil conditions. All styles welcome!

Take the Storm Phaze II and make it a touch cleaner through the fronts, and you have the Rockstar! While that may not sound like it would make a big difference, I have found the Rockstar to be much more playable on a regular medium oil league pattern than the Phaze II. The Rockstar certainly has enough traction to be able to be used on medium/heavy patterns, but the usability on standard medium oil patterns is what makes this ball stand out. It has a good amount of heavy mid lane roll while not burning up too much energy. It is a great step down from the aforementioned Phaze II, or something like a Sublime Focus.

If you love the Hustle Line but like a little more bite in the pocket- This ball is for you!
united states
This is my first Roto Grip ball and I must say that I am impressed with how smooth this ball is. There’s enough backend to be a benchmark ball and get you through the first game or two. For me it doesn’t shine as the lanes transition, but that’s ok, that’s why we all have several pieces for that.
Smooth rolling with nice backend

Couldn't believe this was on sale for under $100. I am very happy with Bowlersmart and the ball. My local proshop charged $80 to drill it with 2 plugs, which sucked. Next time I will let Bowlersmart drill when I need a new ball.
