Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
The Storm Bionic was engineered to be the ultimate symmetrical solution. Pairing the Torsion AI core with Storm’s NRG Hybrid Reactive coverstock at 4000 grit, this ball delivers a smooth, continuous motion that reads the midlane without burning up energy too early.
In our testing, the Bionic excelled on medium to medium-heavy oil patterns. The hybrid coverstock gives it enough traction to handle oil volume while the 4000 grit polish allows it to push through the front of the lane cleanly. The backend motion is strong but controlled — not the violent snap of an asymmetric, but a powerful, predictable arc that carries pins consistently.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Bionic is built for the bowler who wants one ball that can do it all on a typical league night. If you’re a tweener or stroker who needs a reliable benchmark ball that transitions well from fresh to broken-down conditions, this is your answer. Speed-dominant players will appreciate the midlane read, while rev-dominant players can open up the lane without losing control.
The Pros
- • Incredibly versatile — handles medium to heavy oil without layout changes
- • Smooth, continuous motion with no over/under
- • Torsion AI core provides strong midlane read
- • 4000 grit finish allows easy surface adjustments
The Cons
- • May not have enough angle for crankers on heavy oil
- • Symmetric core means less flare than asymmetric alternatives

The Bionic seems like it has some superpowers inside of it. The lower RG and higher Diff really give this ball a different look than most. I threw it two shots in practice and decided not to use it to start the night but towards the end of game 1 the lanes got a little weird to me, so I said why not give it a shot. The first ball of game 2 it jumped through the face and left a 4-10. I made a minor adjustment off of that and proceeded to throw the next 6 in a row before I left a 9 pin. I even had a 9 pin standing and a pin came and smacked it out in the string of 6 in a row. I used the ball all the way up until game 3 frame 4. The ball motion just wowed me especially at 4000 grit and I am normally not a huge fan of hybrid coverstocks.
Storm BIONIC BALL OF THE YEAR??? Wow, this ball is the perfect benchmark controllable all purpose ball for most bowlers. From the design to the roll, this ball has it all. This is the one that you will be seeing all over, don’t miss out, I’m sure glad I drilled this one. I drilled it with a 4 inch pin. It is stronger than my Ion Hybrid in the mid lane, and continues through the pin deck. This ball just doesn’t quit! I love mine. Perfect for the league night and for the tournament bag = WIN WIN!
299 out of box, this ball handles oil and dry very well. I recommend pin down layouts and replacing whatever benchmark ball you are using with this.
Core - Storm Torsion AI Core RG - 2.47, Diff - .050 NRG Hybrid Coverstock 4000 Grit Layout 4 x 4.5 x 2.5 Out of the box the Bionic is a 4000 grit hybrid coverstock designed to be a symmetrical piece that can handle any condition and any bowler. My expectations for the Bionic was to be a go to benchmark piece that could be under the Vengeance. I was skeptical at first with the 4000 surface but I was not disappointed. The Bionic did lane shine rather quickly but I did not experience any changes in performance. First night on the lanes I was able to use the Bionic for all three games rolling a 685 out of the box. The Bionic is spot on with its predictability, and versatility. The controlled backend motion will allow it to be in many league and tournament bags. Mike Walker Anne Marie Duggan’s Pro Shop
Best ball i’ve bought in a while, replacement to my super soniq and step up from the phaze 2. hits like a truck and gives me room left and right
The Storm Bionic is my go to ball for league. I have always liked NRG and Micro Trax coverstocks and this ball is no different. I get a very strong and predictable motion. For me this ball is the perfect amount of length and angle. My carry percentage is through the roof due to the angle and continuation that this ball has. I managed to shoot 300 with it the last night game 1. This is one of those balls that you can throw all 3 games. As you move left and get around it, the ball becomes more responsive. I can’t wait to get this ball on a sport pattern and see what kind of results I can get from it.
Cover: NRG Hybrid Reactive Core: Torsion + A.I. RG: 2.47 RG. Out of Box ball motion clean through the fronts with a sharp backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Phaze II Pearl. Phaze II Pearl was a little earlier and not as sharp on the backend compared to the Bionic. If you are looking for a Hybrid piece that doesn’t quit on the backend this one is for you. The Storm Bionic uses the symmetric version of the Torsion A.I. core found in the Ion Max and Ion Pro and Ion Pro Solid line. It has an RG of 2.47 and a differential of 0.050 in 15lbs and has the Hybrid version of the proven NRG Coverstock. I found this ball to be a strong “benchmark” type reaction a step below my Equinox Solid and the Ion Max. This is a strong Cover even at 4000 grit out of the box. It does lane shine fairly quickly which I’m ok with because of my lower ball speed. This one provides a little more backend for me than the Roto Grip Rockstar and will fit above my Phaze II Pearl in the bag. It has been very useable in the time that I’ve had to throw it and it is a cool looking piece of equipment going down the lane. I’ve already heard several comments about the ball reaction as “nice that it picks up in the midland and doesn’t just jump when it hits friction.” I am a lower ball speed senior (14-16 mph down lane) with a middle of the road rev rate around 320 and a PAP of 5 5/8 over and 1 1/5/16 up. Longer pin placements on stronger covers usually work Well for me on most lane conditions. I went 4.5x4.5x2 on this one which makes for a smoother reaction overall. In my opinion this will be a good fit for most styles on lanes that have some volume.
My layout is 5 x 4 x 2 (50 x 5 x 30 using the dual angle layout). This is an updated hybrid symmetrical version of the Ion Pro. The Bionic is very versatile to start on the fresh and for transition! It provides me a great amount of length, a quick yet, predictable response off the friction and energy going through the pins. If you are a fan of the Ion series, this will be a great ball to transition from the Ion Max, and is a step up from the Ion Pro Solid. This ball can be very responsive off the friction, so it does provide some good backend off the friction. I can use this during transition from balls like the Ion Max, Vengeance and/or Transformer to find that balance of predictable motion that I like. Make sure you grab yours from your local Storm VIP pro shop!
Here is my review of the STORM Bionic. 1st and foremost, I absolutely love hybrids. The 900 Global Cove and Viking are two essential balls for my tournament arsenal. The Bionic fits right in the middle of these two. Bionic: Coverstock: NRG Hybrid Reactive Weight Block: Torsion A.I. Core Factory Finish: 4000 Abralon Flare Potential: Medium-High Radius of Gyration (RG): 14lbs - 2.48 Differential (Diff): 14lbs - 0.047 Fragrance: Cherry Cobbler When I first read that this ball “fits” almost all oil patterns, I was very doubtful. I thought, how can this ball cut through the fresh and maintain its strength in the later blocks? Then I saw this ball had the NRG Hybrid Coverstock. Some of the previous balls that had this coverstock were the Physix and the All Road. Both were excellent balls. I decided to drill using the dual angle measurement: 40 x 4.5 x 20. First impression: This ball is clean through the heads and is strong on the backend. For a guy who doesn’t have much hand, this was very surprising. Honestly, seeing this is a symmetrical piece, I was expecting a rounder shape. Every time I could use this ball, whether it was testing or bowling league, I could not go up the boards for it was that strong off the end of the pattern. This is great in a way because I do get to avoid the “track” and can stay in the oil much longer. Once this ball encounters friction, it tends to move to the left. I can see bowlers using this as a benchmark ball to read an oil pattern. It is great on a fresh, typical house shot. When you have a transition, you can move left easily, and this ball will retain energy. I did try it on two challenge patterns that had lighter oil (23mL and 25mL), and while this ball does work on those patterns, you must rely on speed and/or keeping it in the oil. The Bionic takes well to surface changes. I took the surface to 3000 off a resurfacer, and this ball impressed me. Still got the length I desired, but not as sharp a backend as a box finish. Now that the ball has lane shine (after 15 games), it is getting sharper and sharper. Overall, this ball is one of the better symmetrical releases from Storm.

Now onto my review portion of this ball. When I heard there was a new “ION” ball coming out I was as excited as can be. I have loved all the ION’s of the past, but what was different about this one was it is the first Symmetrical ION and comes as a Hybrid. I have been using the Equinox Solid as my first ball out of the bag on a fresh condition and I decided to test them out side by side. What we saw was that the Equinox Solid would dig into the lane earlier but the Bionic was very easy to get through the fronts but had the same back end reaction. Both balls get to the same place down lanes and have the same strength so I don’t see where a player would need both in the bag. It features the NRG Hybrid cover that was previously used on the Physix/Super Soniq and has been paired with the brand new Torsion A.I. core. The Torsion A.I core was derived from the Ion Max’s Element Max A.I. core keeping the stacked ellipses, but evolving into a symmetric shape. This cover/core combination will produce a predictable and reliable reaction that clears the fronts and maintains energy for a strong continuous backend motion. The Bionic gave me a great look sliding on 30, looking 18 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 7-8. As I moved left, my ball reaction continued to look fantastic with more tilt and slower ball speed. Compared to the Ion Pro Solid, it's stronger and quicker downlane. The Bionic will be the perfect step down from the Ion Max and will fit between the Ion Max and Ion Pro Solid in my bag. The Ion Pro Solid has been a great tournament ball for me, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what the Bionic can do. Stop by your local Storm VIP pro shop to check it out! Storm Bionic 70x5x40. Symmetrical hybrid. This ball is so versatile and will fit perfectly in just about everyone's bag whether you are a league bowler or tournament bowler. It is very predictable and continuous. It blends out the lane perfectly. It reminds me of the Zen Soul which is a ball that I used a lot when I needed to go to something I could trust. I anticipate being able to use this Bionic on any pattern potentially on the fresh and throughout transition. It is clean but still picks up exactly where it needs to. I threw it first on a fresh Red Square dead flat pattern and Bionic had absolutely no issues digging through the oil and continuing as I got left and opened up my angles. Release date 2/27/26. The Storm Bionic is a strong, versatile piece that fits beautifully into a serious tournament arsenal. Drilled 5 x 3, this layout gives me excellent length through the heads while still maintaining a smooth, controlled motion down lane. The NRG Hybrid cover keeps the ball clean through the front part of the lane without burning up early, and the Torsion AI Core provides that predictable, continuous motion off the breakpoint. It’s not overly jumpy — just a strong, smooth arc that blends wet/dry really well. This ball is a perfect addition to the Storm Tournament Collection from Storm Products. It fills that benchmark/transition slot nicely and gives you confidence when the lanes start to change. It’s also an awesome complement to my Roto Grip Transformer — giving me a slightly cleaner look with that smooth, continuous finish when I need a different shape.

I chose to start my reviews with the new Bionic. The bionic continues the great success of the Ion Series of balls. The Bionic features the Torsion AI core which is an evolution of the Element Max™ Core featured in the ion max. This symmetric slightly lower diff core is teamed up with the NRG Hyrbrid cover. The combination creates a great gap filler when you need to transition away from the balls that had a more aggressive mid-lane read. I tested the Bionic on our house-shot after it had a session of senior bowling league. This is usually a great indication of mid-league transition on my normal leagues. My first impressions were that the ball was a little smoother than I had expected. I still didn't have issues with carry, and I didn't feel like I needed to manipulate the ball much to get it to go through the pins. The Bionic was very consistant. I had a pretty good amount of area to miss in or out and still carry. When I threw a comparison ball it gave me a little better idea of the lane conditions. My Phaze II picked up almost immediately and looked much flatter in the back-end which indicated that there was more wear on the lanes than I had initially thought. This made me appreciate how great this ball would look as a transition piece off of the stronger balls, particuarly the ones with earlier covers. I threw my Vengeance as well and it was even earlier and slower down-lane. The amount of transiton that I was seeing would normally be an indication of my need to go to cleaner balls with higher RG's like balls in the Road line or even down to something like a hustle. I moved further left to see how the bionic would handle covering more boards and I definitely hit a wall. There was too much early friction so when I pushed it right it couldn't recover and when I tried to keep the break-point in it would read the front of the lane too hard. I wouldn't take this as anything disparaging about the Bionic, it's not a ball designed to deal with excessive friction, if so it wouldn't be as usable on fresher conditions. The bionic is enough ball to be a first ball for people with higher revs or lower ball speed like myself. It stays in play really well in the transtion which is where most people who are a little more speed/rev matched will like it best. Drilling pattern: 4 3/8” pin to PAP with a 2 5/8” pin buffer. PAP: 4.5 over x 1 up. Pin position: Above and slightly right of my bridge. I’ve personally been looking for a suitable ZEN SOUL replacement for a couple of years and I think I may have finally found it. The STORM BIONIC provides everything the ZEN SOUL did, with just a little more aggression. The cover stock seems to be a touch stronger but still has the same great down lane motion. I used this ball on both a THS as well as the 2025 USBC OC pattern and the conclusion was the same. The ball has enough teeth to dig in the oil, but the core retains enough energy to make a very strong motion down lane. This ball fits perfectly when there is some carry down and you need to start opening your angles and playing through the oil in the middle of the lane. I see this ball being very usable for all bowlers and being a staple in my tournament arsenal for the foreseeable future. Brent Ritchie SPI Pro Shop Staff Member
Dual Angle: 55 x 4 1/2 x 25 Storm Vector: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 1 3/4 The Storm Bionic features the NRG™ Hybrid cover stock wrapped around the Torsion™ A.I. Core. This ball looks good, smells good, and rolls GOOD. This ball is much stronger than I anticipated but what do you expect from the little brother of the Ion Max. This ball really gets into a heavy roll and just crushes the pins.
General bowler information: Right-handed stroker Release speed: around 16 mph Rev rate: approximately 240 rpm PAP: 4 1/2 over, 1/2 up Here's a look at my Storm Bionic. The Torsion A.I. core is a modification of the Ion Max’s Element A.I core, revolving it into a symmetric shape. It features a low RG (2.47) and high differential (0.050). This ball takes the NRG hybrid coverstock, found on balls such as the Physix, and uses a 4000 Abralon finish. Mine was drilled 4.5 x 3.5 x 2, a fairly typical layout for me. My video (link below) is on the house pattern at Cedar Lanes in Sandusky, OH, which is 45 feet on 60+ year old wood lanes after my trio league… not exactly what this ball is designed for. However, this ball was more than playable on this condition. The overall hook put me several boards left of where I stood in the Concept video, no shock there! Carry was very good as long as I executed my release properly, even sneaking in two PD trip 4’s. I am very eager to see what this ball performs like on its intended lane conditions and to compare it to the Roto Grip Transformer in such a situation. About Me PAP. 4 3/4 right 1 3/8 up Ball speed 17 MPH Rev-rate 450 Layout 60 x 5 x 30 Pattern House Shot The Bionic has very cool shelf appeal! The Bionic gives me that little extra length I need when the asymmetrical balls wont allow me to get through the heads later in league play. On fresh I can still open the lanes up a bit but the ball can be a little speed sensitive to start. I can play multiple angles with ease. And just focus on making quality shots. The Bionic gives that iconic Storm shape everybody loves to see down lane! I highly recommend this ball to many bowlers as this will be one of those eye grabbing pin hopping balls. This is a must have for every Bowler! Very fun ball to throw great job STORM! Storm Staffer Go Get It!!!!!!!
Good.
The Storm Bionic is now my go to middle of the bag ball. It's a little cleaner than the Phaze II and Rockstar and a little bit sharper than both which definitely suits me as a bowler. I loved the original Ion Pro and the Ion Pro Solid, so I had pretty high hopes for this one. Safe to say the Bionic still exceeded the bar I set. I was pretty intrigued when I heard that the idea with this core was to chop the asymmetry off of the Ion Max core and keep the pancake stack style to it. I absolutely love it as it makes it a little sharper down lane from the original Ion Pro series. Aside from ball reaction, this is 100% the prettiest ball I have ever seen rolling down the lane. Everybody should have one of these in their bag!
Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 Surface: 4000 Rev Rate: 470 Tilt: 13* The new Bionic is the symmetrical hybrid version of the popular Ion Max. It utilizes the new Torsion A.I core and paired with the NRG Hybrid coverstock. My first impression about this ball before I threw it was that it would be too early rolling and not very consistent with the NRG coverstock. I was completely wrong! I tested this on my typical 43ft house pattern. I tried throwing it on the fresh up around the 10 board and I proceeded to miss the head pin left on my first shot. I knew this one had some teeth in it but not the early kind. It got through the front with ease and stored so much energy for the backend. As I continued to throw this ball, I could tell it had ample continuation to it. I moved into 20 with my feet and tried to throw it to 5 down lane. Again, too much continuation and hook on the backend. This told me it was going to be a better transition ball. As I threw a full game and some transition occurred, I was still able to move left and see the Bionic still come around the corner fairly easy. At the end of my testing, I was able to get to 35 with my feet and throwing it to around 7 down lane and the ball STILL KEPT COMING! It was really impressive to watch. This is one of those balls that will give you that hook on a wide variety of oil conditions. From medium to heavier oil, I don't feel this will have any issue hooking appropriately. I think this will be great for a wide variety of bowler styles as well. Its great continuation will make this ball a staple in many people's bag. Compared to the phaze 2, I saw a little more length and a stronger backend continuous motion. it is not as early and smooth as the Ion Max as well. I wouldn't call this Bionic a benchmark per say but it is a ball that will be great as a first or second transition ball especially as the lanes get more wet/dry. I can see this ball being great for the tournament bowler also. I am planning on bringing this ball as part of my nationals arsenal because it is that versatile!

The Bionic is SPI’s latest addition to the Ion line. The Bionic featured the Torsion AI core wrapped in NRG Hybrid. The Bionic builds perfectly off the rest of the Ion line, providing a higher traction cover/core combo without impeding on the strength of the Ion Max. The Bionic for me has been the perfect ball to go to after my Vengeance starts seeing the front part of the lane too early but my window isn’t large enough to go to my Ion Pros. The Bionic is now available from any Storm VIP Pro Shop! Review Video: https://youtu.be/QvLcW41C7M8?si=v7PC5-B3F4_n7jT4
Layout: 75 x 4 x 40 PAP: 1" Up, 3.5" Over Speed: 14 mph Rev Rate: ~330 rpm Style: Right-Handed Tweener Lane Condition: 40' House Shot Lane Surface: Synthetic with built-in friction I drilled the Storm Bionic with a 75 x 4 x 40 dual-angle layout and tested it on a typical 40-foot house shot on synthetic lanes that have some built-in friction. With my specs (14 mph ball speed and around 330 revs), the Bionic gives me a very readable and predictable motion. The ball gets through the front part of the lane clean while still picking up a strong midlane read. As it exits the pattern, it makes a smooth but continuous move off the spot rather than a sharp flip. On my center’s synthetic lanes, the ball creates a strong arc that blends the wet/dry well and continues nicely through the pins. For my game, the Bionic fits well as a benchmark-style piece for league. I can start near the track area early and migrate inside as the lanes transition while keeping a consistent shape. Bowlers with medium speed and rev rates looking for a controllable motion on house conditions should match up well with this ball. Overall, the Storm Bionic offers a strong, predictable reaction with great continuation, making it a solid option for league bowlers who want a reliable ball to handle typical house shots.
The Storm Bionic is the newest addition to the ongoing Tournament Series collection. This symmetrical hybrid is featured with the Torsion AI Core, along with the NRG Hybrid Reactive Cover Stock, and finished with 4000-grit with a medium-high flare potential. This ball feels like a game changer, engineering the performance of the Ion Max and creating a symmetrical shape for more versatility for all styles. Ball layout: 70 x 5 3/8 x 40. My first impressions throwing the Bionic on a 42ft league pattern was… wow for a symmetrical hybrid, this ball is strong! Super clean through the front part of the lane, and a very smooth response to the back part of the lane. What I like about the Bionic is it gives you more room to play without rolling early, even in the friction. For a versatile ball, the Bionic would fit perfectly in your tournament arsenal when it comes to bowling on those demanding medium-heavy lane conditions. It just has that super clean look, along with predictable ball motion down lane. I consider the Bionic would fit right in the middle of my bag in between an Ion Max and Ion Pro Solid. I feel Storm has hit a home run with this ball and could be an early candidate for ball of the year. If you are looking to add a benchmark/versatile ball into your bag, the Bionic is the ball for you! Be sure to drill one up today at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop, you won’t be disappointed!!

Storm has launched its new Tournament Collection- balls intended for tournament conditions, balls that will thrive on those flatter, more demanding tournament patterns. In the Collection is a new ball in the Ion series which perfectly fills a gap in that line. I love the Ion Max (as many bowlers do) because the cover was very strong, which made it slow response, yet a big core which allowed it to continue down lane. So the Ion Max is great on high volume and fresh patterns. But when Ion Max is too early and runs out of gas, there is a pretty big gap to the next ball (in the Ion series that would be the Ion Pro Solid which I find is best shiny, so it’s still pretty clean). Enter the Bionic. First, it is the same NRG cover from the Ion Max, but it’s hybrid (4000 abralon factory finish) instead of solid, so that gets the Bionic to push easier through the front part of the lane. Next, Storm took the Element Max A.I. core from the Ion Max and modified it to be symmetrical, but kept the RG the exact same (2.47 for 15#). The new core is Torsion A.I. and because it’s symmetrical, there is a slower change of direction in the midlane keeping it on line longer. The dif is between the Ion Max and the Ion Pro Solid at (0.050 for 15#) which still has plenty of engine to get it to continue on the back end. As we have already seen on the PBA tour, the Bionic helped Brandon Bonta shoot 300 and win his first title and then Patrick Dombrowski win his first title, a major at the US Open. The Bionic is a must have in your bag and fits as a stronger symmetrical that fills that gap between the big asyms and the medium balls in your arsenal. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 2 (5” pin to PAP, up 2” from the vertical axis line (VAL)).

The Bionic is a great addition for anyone needing a new symmetrical in their bag. I was pleasantly surprised by the power this ball has. I drilled it 5 x 3 x 2 (PAP 5 right 1 ¼ up). I tried this ball on a burnt-up house shot, and it blended the lane nicely to where I had confidence it would get back to the pocket. Having drilled the original Ion Pro, I can see similarities in the two. However, the shape in the back is smooth on the Bionic. I had the Storm Summit, which I loved, and I am convinced the Bionic will be my new favorite hybrid. I am eager to try it in league and tournaments!
Storm Bionic Ball Review The Storm Bionic features a new core design called Torsion AI which is built off the Ion Max weight block but in a symmetrical version. Its wrapped with the NRG Hybrid Coverstock RG-2.47 Diff-.050 Surface-4000 Grit Abralon Layout VLS-5x4.5x2.5 I found the Bionic to be a very versatile piece in my arsenal and it takes cover changes very well. In the polish state its very clean with a very responsive motion on the backend and with more surface it reads the midlane very well with strong continuation on the backend. For me the Bionic will be a step down when my Ion Max is too strong and my Phaze 2 or Ion Pro balls aren't strong enough. The Bionic will be a ball i will use on longer patterns or heavier volume patterns.
Storm Bionic - Master Line Coverstock: NRG Hybrid - 4000 Abralon Core: Torsion A. I. RG: 2. 47 Differential: . 050 Fragrance: Cherry Cobbler The Storm Bionic is a strong symmetric hybrid ball whose core is based upon the asymmetric Ion series. The Bionic is one of the strongest Symmetric balls that I have thrown in quite some time. The cover feels very strong and grips the lane early, but with the core, it is able to retain enough energy to hook down lane as well. For me this is a slight step down from the Ion Max solid, and make a great 1-2 punch for heavier oil. Also with now 3 wins on the PBA tour so far this season, it may be ball of the YEAR!
The Storm Bionic features the NRG Hybrid reactive cover wrapped around the new Torsion A.I. symmetrical core, coming in with a low RG (~2.47) and higher differential (~0.050), which gives it a strong midlane read with plenty of flare and continuation, all at a 4000-grit finish that keeps it clean but still very readable on medium to heavy oil . For me, this ball is exactly what I want in a true benchmark piece—it picks up in the midlane without being too early and gives me a smooth but strong arc that I can trust on just about anything. It feels stronger and more dynamic than something like a Phaze II, especially in terms of overall hook and continuation, but still keeps that same predictable shape that makes it easy to stay lined up. I’ve found it to be one of those balls I can start with and stick with for a while, because it blends the lane really well without getting jumpy or over/under, and when I need something that’s versatile but still has some teeth, the Bionic has been a really reliable option.

This brand new bionic is easily becoming my favorite ball in my bag. Not only is this ball a house shot killer, it has been doing nothing but winning titles out on the on the PBA Tour. This ball is featuring a brand new Torsion core wrapped up in the NRG Hybrid coverstock. This ball can easily be ball of the year. Storm BIONIC Ball specs: All new Torsion A.I. core wrapped in NRG hybrid coverstock with surface finish at 4000 grit. Layout: 4 x 4 x 1. My Specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 13/16th up 1/8th. Here is what’s up with the all new Storm Bionic for me: The all new Torsion A.I. core was to produce a smooth and controllable arc and the NRG hybrid cover provides balanced traction and takes surface adjustments very easily. The BIONIC is the next level to the already well received ION series. For me, the BIONIC is the most versatile and reliable ball I have used in many seasons, probably since the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid that I used at so many leagues and tournaments a few years ago, and still have one drilled that is in my tournament arsenal. In all three centers I have used the BIONIC , which all have different lane surfaces, like Pro-Lane, HPL, and SPL, the ball has been nothing but awesome. In the centers that have HPL and Pro-Lanes, the back ends are cleaner and more crisp, I can open up the angles at the breakpoints and allow a little swing in the shot making, creating a stronger arc path into the pocket, which leads to better pin carry and better scores! On the center with SPL, the backends tend to be not as clean and with less friction on the panels, I can square up and tighten the shot making line and still have a strong entry into the pocket. Another wonderful item for noting is that I have been able to stay in the BIONIC most of the league nights, if not the whole night. My RockStar is still my #1 BALL since last year because of how strong and reliable it is, but the BIONIC is now the #2 BALL in my league bags, which now consist of: RockStar, BIONIC, Vengeance, Ion MAX Pearl, Gremlin, and Gremlin Tour-X. Bionic is the newest iteration of the Element core shape found in the Ion series. This symmetrical Torsion A.I. core really sets itself apart from other upper mid symmetricals in the lineup in terms of hook shape. Familiar to the Ion Max, this ball just. keeps. hooking. I feel like I can get it back from anywhere, but at the same time it's never too jumpy or unpredictable. The NRG Hybrid cover, featured on the Physix and All Road (two of my favorites), goes hand-in-hand with the Torsion A.I. core to produce a uniquely consistent, punchy, continuous hook shape that really compliments my other go-to symmetricals like the RockStar and Phaze 2 Pearl. This has been the first ball out of my bag more and more; you do not want to miss out on this unique piece from SPI! -Chase Valenzuela
The Storm Bionic is the newest addition to the Master Line. If you’ve watched the PBA shows this season, you’ve seen it strike a ton on TV, and that’ s been the same story for me as well. With an RG of 2.47 and differential of .050, those numbers tell us this ball wants to flare early and often. The differential is on the higher side which tells us the ball wants to plow through the pins with intention. The coverstock is Hybrid, which allows players to be able to use it on multiple types of patterns. I’ve drilled one so far and really like it. It’s mapped out as 5 x 4 x 2. This puts the pin above my bridge with a slight shift of the CG. I also put a bit of Storm polish on it since the surface I bowl on at home is older and tends to hook a lot. I’ve had the most success with it after my Vengeance and Ion Max Pearl have done their jobs. When I’ve been able to create angle with it and shape it right-to-left, it’s never missed “the spot” and continues extremely well. If you need a ball that is usable on a ton of different patterns and surfaces, and adjusts to different surfaces (shiny, dull) well, you should dill the new Bionic from Storm. #StormNation
The new Storm Bionic combines the NRG Hybrid coverstock previously found on the Physix and All Road, and the Torsion A.I. core. At 15 pounds the Bionic has a low RG of 2.47 and a differential of .050. I drilled my Bionic 5x5x2 which puts the pin above my bridge. The Bionic takes the control of the Ion Pro solid and the strength of the Ion Max and combines them into one fantastic ball reaction. The Bionic gets revved up quickly and still provides a strong continuous backend motion. This ball is very versatile and can be used with straighter angles on heavier oil conditions. The Bionic also reacts well on medium conditions where you need to open your angles and throw it away from the pocket. The low RG and NRG coverstock makes sure that this ball never misses the spot. The A.I. core provides tremendous pin action. This is a ball that should be in every bowler’s bag. Based on the instant success this ball has had on the PBA Tour, I have a feeling this ball will be in the Storm line for a long time.
Storm Bionic Coverstock: NRG Hybrid Reactive Finish: 4000-grit Abralon Core: Torsion A.I. Core RG: 2.47, Diff: 0.050 (15 lbs) VLS Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 x 2 1/4 Dual Angle Layout: 45 x 4 1/2 x 35 PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up Rev rate: 400 rpm Average speed: 16.5 mph Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The new Storm Bionic was designed to be a modern benchmark symmetric ball – meant to be the first ball out of your bag, but also capable of handling virtually any lane condition. The next evolution of the Ion series, the Bionic features the Torsion A.I. core which is essentially a symmetric version of the core from the Ion Max. Combined with the NRG Hybrid cover that provides balanced traction and a consistent backend response, the Bionic is designed to deliver predictable, versatile performance. I drilled my Bionic with my go-to “benchmark” drilling that allows for the characteristics of the ball to take over. To no surprise, the Bionic has been exactly what I’m looking in a strong, benchmark-type ball. It provides a smooth, readable shape in the midlane and a strong but controllable backend motion that has a noticeable pop off the spot but is by no means skip/flip. To me it almost feels like a modern-day Phaze II. The Bionic has immediately become a go-to ball that I can start with and keep throwing for multiple games because how versatile it is. It slots right in between the Ion Max and Ion Pro Solid in my bag. There’s a reason why it has won so much on the PBA Tour already! Chris Pollentier Storm Products Pro Shop Staff
Introducing the Storm Bionic built for medium–heavy oil conditions. The Bionic is truly a benchmark ball for almost any lane conditions. The combination of the NRG Hybrid coverstock and Torsion A.I. Core creates a ball that delivers smooth, easy motion with powerful continuation and predictability. I am speed dominant, average rev rate 250-275ish, low-medium tilt and medium rotation. I drilled mine 35 x 4 1/2 x 30. My axis point is 4 3/8 over 1 3/8 up. This ball is good for me on medium oil conditions. In league I start with my Concept then change to the Bionic. These two are great one two punch for game 1 and 2. Go get yours at your local Storm VIP shop today! #StormNation #sm2proshop #Deviousbowling
The Storm Bionic is a strong symmetrical hybrid that fits right into that benchmark slot, but with more pop than you’d expect. It features the new Torsion A.I. core paired with the NRG Hybrid cover at 4000 grit, giving it a clean look up front with a strong, continuous motion downlane. I drilled mine with my standard Symmetric layout 5x4x2. The closest comparison is the Phaze 2 — but the Bionic is a step up. It’s a touch cleaner through the fronts and noticeably stronger with more continuation through the pins. What really stands out is how it keeps hooking. A lot of hybrids tend to get forward, but the Bionic continues through the deck and lets you open your angles without getting jumpy or unpredictable. It’s best as a fresh or transition piece on medium to heavier oil and works great as a go-to benchmark. If you’ve liked balls like the Phaze II or Zen Soul, the Bionic gives you that same shape with more overall hook and better backend. Layout: 5x4x2 My Specs - Speed - 16 mph, Rev Rate - 280. PAP 5 3/4 x 1/2 Up
Layout: 45 x 4 ½ x 35 The Bionic is the best little brother that the original Ion Max could ever ask for! The Bionic is a little cleaner, a little more responsive, but can still handle a good bit of oil. The 4000 box finish allows it to be used on medium to medium-heavy patterns, though if it was hit with a 1500 or 2000 pad, it could handle just about any amount of oil you could throw at it. The versatility of this ball is pretty incredible – it can somehow be described as both a really strong ball, but also as a ball that could be your benchmark. The closest ball reaction in the Storm lineup to the Bionic is certainly the Phaze 2, and that is obviously the highest praise.
