Storm Concept Performance Test
The Storm Concept is the second release in Storm's SPI Lab Series — a control piece that delivers urethane-level predictability with reactive hitting power. Built for demanding conditions where precision matters more than power.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
The Storm Concept breaks new ground as the second release from Storm’s SPI Lab Series. The ARC Pearl coverstock is engineered to run at USBC maximum friction and oil absorption levels, creating a unique ball motion that blends the control of urethane with the pin carry of reactive resin.
The conservative Radius weight block (2.61 RG, .020 differential) acts as a traction control system. This isn’t a ball designed to move the lane — it’s designed to hold its line. On short patterns and demanding sport conditions, the Concept provides the predictability that tournament bowlers need to repeat shots with confidence.
Who Is This Ball For?
This is a specialist’s ball. If you compete on sport patterns, bowl on shorter oil conditions, or need a reactive option that behaves like urethane, the Concept fills a gap that few other balls address. Strokers and control players will find this particularly effective, while higher rev players can use it as a benchmark on demanding patterns.
The Pros
- • ARC Pearl coverstock runs at USBC maximum friction and oil absorption
- • Urethane-level control with reactive hitting power
- • Exceptional on short patterns and sport conditions
- • SPI Lab Series pedigree — cutting-edge R&D
The Cons
- • Conservative core limits total hook potential
- • Not ideal for heavy oil volume
- • Higher price point for a control piece

Core - AI Core Radius RG - 2.61, Diff - .018 ARC Pearl Coverstock Layout 3 3/8 x 4 x 2 The Concept maintains continuous motion and has strong hook through the pins. I felt like the Concept resisted the tendency to roll forward. It seems very different to what is out there today. It is smooth but acts like urethane and eliminates the noise about carry down like urethane. Out of the box I bowled on a typical house shot pattern. I was uncertain on my expectations after a few shots I was mixed on the ball reaction and hit the surface with 800 abralon. First day in league with the new finish, I shot 711 and used the ball for all 3 games with minimal movement. I have had the opportunity to throw the purple and black ball in the past and the Concept has a better down lane finishing result. I feel this ball has predictable motion with consistent carry through the pins. As a pro shop operator, I feel the Concepts cover is tunable for all types of bowlers and lane conditions to definitely achieve their expectations. Whether you are a slow roller or high rev rate player, the Concept can give the desired shape and results on all conditions. Mike walker Anne Marie Duggan’s Pro Shop
The Concept made me scratch my head at first, 2.61, .020 Diff and 1000 Grit Surface on a Pearl Reactive Coverstock. I watched the videos at the seminar when they were comparing it to the Pitch Black, Level and IQ Tour but was not really sure if it would be a ball that would fit me. After using it on the fresh at a tournament, I can honestly say this was more impressive than just watching it in a video. I am very tempted to try it on a league night just because well why not. If you are a Level owner I think you will like this ball as an addition to it.

NEW MOTION STRIKES! This one is going to fill a gap that we haven’t seen yet. Stronger than a 78U with more down lane motion. Good shape but still controllable. Personally feel like for harder tournament patterns this ball is going to be in play A LOT! Very continuous through the pins, controllable through the mid lane. Do yourself a favor and put this ball in your tournament bag!
I drilled this ball 90x4x70 and it rolls just like a good urethane ball. I cant wait to see it tear up some short patterns. I would recommend drilling stronger if you intend to use it for house shots.

I really appreciate the Storm Concept. I have never really been able to through Urethane in the past effectively. I always had to rely on surface and big hooking balls to control the downlane motion. That could lead to some carry issues. Then the concept came along and made me a believer. While I don’t think it is a ball that I would normally use in league, I gave it a try. It allowed me to play to the right and not overhook downlane. This surface really digs in and the ball does not flare much. I recommend drilling with stronger pin to PAPs this will help the ball flare and give you fresh coverstock to roll over. Where this ball really shined for me is on the 36foot sport pattern my league is bowling on. I am able to play around 5 and have some miss area. This ball really has good continuation where urethane would be a flat 10, the Concept knocks them down. I am really pleased with this ball.
The Storm Concept is a high RG ball 2.61 with a low differential (0.020) with Storm’s strongest coverstock they’ve developed the ARC Pearl Coverstock.. This odd combination of numbers makes for a very unique urethane-like ball reaction. I normally do not use much urethane since I don’t bowl on a lot of challenging conditions any longer, but I have tried it out on both fresh and burned house shots in the 42 foot range and had a nice useable look. I’m a senior player with a 320 rev rate and slower 14-16 mph ball speed and have found the Concept to be good on a cliffed house shot to control the wet/dry. This ball is very useful starting out when the backends are fresh, and I can move left with it and throw it to the friction into game 2. I drilled mine 4x4.5.2. Normally I don’t go stronger with the pin placement because of my lower ball speed. This ball does hook quite a bit. In my opinion it will be useful for a lot of styles. I’m sure the two hand and high reve rate players will love this ball on shorter patterns. This is a definite upgrade over the Level, which I didn’t use much at all. Storm has found something here for those who need to control the pocket and still be able to strike.
Ill buy it again, soon.

TESTING ENVIRONMENT Type: Lakes Bowl House Shot BALL: Storm Concept Coverstock: ARC Pearl Core: : Radius Finish: 1000 Grit RG: 2.62 (14 Pounds) Differential: 0.019 (14 Pounds) MB/PSA: NA (14 Pounds) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 14-15 mph Rev Rate: 220 Layout: 40x4x40 The Concept redefines how core and cover combinations tackle challenging lane conditions, delivering a level of control and consistency that reactive balls alone often can’t achieve. Its ARC™ Pearl Coverstock acts as both the engine and the tires, gripping the lane to create continuous, predictable motion through the pins while the Radius Weight Block keeps the ball on line without locking up. Designed for situations where bowlers traditionally reach for urethane, the Concept shines on short patterns or flat, demanding conditions—anywhere you need a smooth, controlled reaction rather than a sharp backend hook. The Concept maintains consistent motion across the lane, carrying through the pins for strong, lively action. Designed as a two-piece ball with a thick resin shell, the 14-16lbs combine the smooth, predictable qualities of urethane with the versatility and driving power bowlers expect from a modern reactive ball. Don’t just take our word for it—watch the Concept in action and see how it delivers urethane-style motion with unmatched consistency, control, and confidence. Now onto my review portion of this ball. When this was released I just thought I will hold my thoughts until we put holes in it and see it for myself. Urethane-style motion balls rarely look good for me due to the low revs, but this was different. With the LEVEL I would hit it with 500 and it rolled well for about a game then just got super lazy, but that is not the case with this ball. The quick oil absorption makes this ball have a footprint on the lane and getting the ball down lane is easy, just have to remember the ball motion will be smooth to the pocket. When testing this ball against others I would be trying to get this ball up the third arrow and when I got it right it was very light in the pocket. The Concept features the brand new ARC cover, which creates a urethane like motion while still absorbing oil. The core of the Concept is the new Radius weight block that was engineered to keep the ball on line and prevent it from locking up. The Concept gave me a great look sliding on 20, looking 12 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 7. Even after game one, I was able to stay to the right without worry that it would overreact when it saw the friction. I was impressed with the forgiveness of the Concept and can see it being in my bag for league and tournaments. It gets through the fronts and has a smooth downlane motion. When compared to the Level, the Concept is 3-4 boards stronger overall and is more continuous. The Concept will be excellent for bowlers that want to stay further right and when urethane is too early or too forward off the end of the pattern. I’m a right-handed bowler (330 RPM) throwing 14 mph, and the Storm Concept has been MONEY on a 42 ft light-to-medium house shot in my high-friction center. Here’s why
Great ball that delivers on having a "Urethane" like profile in a resin package. I (210 average, speed & rev dominant right handed one hand no thumb) and my father (180 average, slow stroker left handed) have both noticed that the ball does not perform as well as traditional resins on our league house patterns. I expected this to be the case, and it's not exactly a complaint since we got this for sport shots specifically, but it would be the reason I can't recommend this as a must buy ball like I would with a ball like the Phase II that works for most patterns.

The Storm Concept is an absolute home run. Drilled 4 x 1, this ball gives me that controlled urethane-type shape, but in a much stronger resin design. The Arc Pearl coverstock controls the front part of the lane extremely well while the Radius Weight Block keeps the motion smooth and continuous. It lets me create shape left to right without losing that front-to-back control — which is huge in tournament play. Compared to my Storm iQ Tour 78U, the Concept is easily 5–7 boards stronger, giving me more overall hook while still maintaining that predictable, rounded motion.

General bowler information: Right-handed stroker Release speed: around 16 mph Rev rate: approximately 240 rpm PAP: 4 1/2 over, 1/2 up Here's a look at my Storm Concept. The biggest news on this ball is the new Arc Pearl coverstock (finished with 1000 grit Abralon) which was designed to have a urethane-style reaction for shorter and/or flatter patterns. The core shape is the brand-new Radius weight block, which features a high RG (2.61) and low differential (0.020) to balance the aggressive cover. Mine was drilled 4 x 3 x 1, which puts the pin well above and right of my ring finger. This layout was suggested by Hank Boomershine to help my rev-challenged release create some backend motion (which I struggled to find with balls like the Pitch Black or Level). My video (link below) is on the house pattern at Cedar Lanes in Sandusky, OH, which is 45 feet on 60+ year old wood lanes after my trio league… not exactly what this ball is designed for. However, this ball was more than playable on this condition. Although I wasn’t pleased with the three pitchouts I threw, the ball didn’t overbounce like other resin balls would on such a miss. In general, the ball has a very strong arcing roll. Carry was much better than I had anticipated for a urethane-style reaction. I am very eager to see what this ball performs on its intended lane conditions. Grab this one from Next Gen Bowlers Pro Shop or your local pro shop and Bowl Up a Storm! #stormnation #NextGenproshop #bowlifi #willsnation https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qYXo9AVW95g
The layout is 3 3/8 x 5 1/4 x 1 1/2 (or 60 x 3 3/8 x 30 using the dual angle layout system). I used the same layout that I used for my Storm Level to compare them both. The Concept is a great replacement for urethane, and is much stronger down lane than the Level. It has a low differential which allows the ball to stay on line longer. It has a strong pearl coverstock called the ARC™ Pearl Coverstock, which makes the Concept grips the lane quicker, but gives a strong continuous shape downlane and through the pins. The coverstock is so strong that I did not seen any oil once my ball returned from the ball pit, which is a huge benefit for two-handed bowlers! The Concept is a very versatile piece. I can play a straighter line to the friction and can actually move 10 boards, send it to the friction downlane, and have amazing recovery off the friction to the pocket. I can see this ball being used for all bowling styles and even senior bowlers or low speed bowlers can have fun with this as well.
Dual Angle: 45 x 4 x 45 Storm Vector: 4 x 4 1/8 x 2 5/8 The Storm Concept features the ARC™ Pearl Cover stock wrapped around the Radius Symmetric Core. This cover stock is the strongest cover ever made by Storm. As someone who struggles to throw urethane this ball has been everything I hoped the Level would have been. This ball is just good, whether you are on a sport pattern or house shot this ball is just consistent and predictable.
TESTING ENVIRONMENT Length:45 Volume: Med - High Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS COMMENTS Core: Radius Cover: ARC Pearl Finish: 1000-grit Abralon RG: 2.61 (15) Diff: 0.020 (15) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 Axis Tilt: 14° Axis Rotation: 74° PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin Up and right of Ring 4 1/4 X 4 1/4 X 2 VLS The New ball that's out to end the Reign of Thane is a SPI Lab line release called the Storm Concept. This one is a very interesting, novel concept (heh). Storm developed a new cover called ARC. This is a cover which mimics Urethane motion but is reactive. In fact it features the fastest oil absorption of any cover storm has used. This strong cover creates so much motion so early that it necessitated a weaker core inside. If you thought it was impossible for a ball with a .020 differential to give you so much early read this ball will teach you otherwise. I tested the Concept on a condition that usually weeds out urethane shapes pretty quickly. Our house pattern when it goes through transition usually makes urethane balls unusable pretty quickly. Our pattern is long but the front of the lane opens up faster than the back because of friction thats built into the front panels. So the early balls get too early pretty quickly and when you force them through the front they don't retain the energy to go through the pins. I had better luck in this aspect with the previous Lab line release The Level. I had high hopes for the Concept to be an improvement on what I saw. The ball did immediately give me the same issues that urethane always has. Covering any amount of boards on this particular surface the ball lost energy pretty quickly. It wasn't an automatic 10 pin or worse the way urethane is, it was 50/50 on carrying shots from this angle. That's about what my level did. I did notice that this had a unique shape compared to the level. It did seem to both read sooner and give a little more motion in the back-end. I think this is because despite reading sooner than the level, it didn't get forward quite as fast, keeping a bit more of a round motion. When I moved a little right and upped the speed I really liked what I saw. With actual thane I couldn't do this in the transition because there was no way to force it through the front with my ball speed and all the friction to the right of this pattern. Not only could I used the Concept here, it gave me much more area than I expected when I did. This gave me a great indication of what I've heard from the guys who have tested this ball on the conditions you usually match urethane with, this ball is a good transition piece because it continues better than traditional urethane when you have to play angles with the friction. I think this one is going to be a hot ticket for people bowling on tournament conditions, and for power players and lefties on pretty much everything. About Me PAP. 4 3/4 right 1 3/8 up Ball speed 17 MPH Rev-rate 450 Layout 60 x 3 1/2 x 35 Pattern Various Patterns The Concept. To be honest I am not one who likes urethane bowling balls for a couple reasons but I am one of those bowlers who doesn’t like to wipe off my bowling ball in-between shots. I personally struggle more on shorter patterns so you would think Id have a purpose for urethane. Well this Concept was basically the exact ball I needed. Its not urethane but urethane like and the weak core strong cover combination allows me to attack this part of my arsenal I never could before unless I used wrist position manipulation which can be difficult to repeat on tougher conditions. The Concept gives me a urethane type shape but cleaner yet controlled. I can use this ball on various conditions but when I have shorter patterns with my ball reaction being to quick with other balls I can switch to the Concept and be in my comfort zone! Also the best part is the oil absorption rate is amazing. I don’t have to worry about wiping the ball off in between shots. I highly recommend this ball to many bowlers especially rev dominate players! This is a must have for every tournament Bowler! Great job STORM! Storm Staffer Go Get It!!!!!!!
Good.
The Storm Concept with a 4 × 4 × 1.5 layout gives me a strong, stable roll with a clear midlane read. The reaction is smooth and controlled, making it easy to manage tougher or fresh conditions. It’s a reliable option when I want a predictable shape and consistent carry.
The Storm Concept is an interesting ball. It has the strongest cover Storm has ever made, wrapped around one of the weakest cores Storm has ever made. The result is a control ball that covers a much wider spectrum than you'd think. For lower rev players, it can be a urethane replacement for situations when you need urethane, but you don't have enough hand to make urethane work. For higher rev players, it can be a very good transition ball between urethane and reactive, but with a little surface, it's a viable urethane replacement on medium length Sport patterns - places where urethane won't hook enough but a normal reactive ball does too much. If you're a tournament player, you should definitely take a look at what this ball may be able to open up for you. Check out my review of the Storm Concept here: https://youtu.be/1bmrsYlalPE Jeff Piroozshad Storm & Turbo Staff
Storm hit the money with this ball! At first, I was a little skeptical with how a super strong cover stock would match up with a high RG, low Diff core, but it's absolutely amazing. The first one I drilled was 4 x 4 x 3 2LS. This one is very smooth and gives me a look very similar to that of a typical urethane ball. What really surprised me out of this one is how good it looks on longer patterns. The second one I drilled is 5 x 4 x -2 VLS. This one hooks a ton. It's really good when I want to get deep into the lane but still want a lot of control on the back end. I find it really surprising how versatile this ball is on the lanes and with how you can drill it. I would highly recommend that everyone should have one or more in their bag.
Amazing ball. The strong cover stock and low differential means it is very controllable. If you have a very high rev rate naturally, this is one of the best purchases you could make.

The Concept is SPI’s latest addition to the Lab Series. The Concept features the brand new ARC Pearl cover wrapped around the low diff radius weight block. The ARC Pearl cover is SPI’s strongest and fastest absorbing coverstock to date. The Concept was created for players to provide urethane like control in a reactive package. So far the Concept for me has been the perfect ball to blend the lane front to back when I need to play closer to the friction but there is not enough volume for balls like the Ion Max. The Concept is now available for purchase from any Storm VIP Pro Shop! Review Video: https://youtu.be/caXqIPBUtg4?si=OWoPEmOXAxgTVYbX
For the longest time, we’ve been asking when Storm will release a urethane or urethane like ball with the universal success of the Pitch Black. The IQ 78U has done very well, but it is clearly earlier and doesn’t do much downlane. That red ball works well on the fresh when the backends need to be controlled. But for me as a one hander with medium rev rate, I really couldn’t open up my angles at all with the IQ 78U and by the end of game one I needed something with more downlane motion. Looks like Storm has done it. Coming out of their SPI Lab is the Concept. It’s not urethane, but it’s urethane like motion. They took the strongest, fastest absorbing reactive coverstock, ARC, and pearlized it so it won’t be too early. The ARC Pearl (1000 abralon out of the box) grips the lane to get the ball to slow down like urethane. That cover is wrapped around the very low dynamic Radius core (for 15-16 lbs balls). That core is high rg (2.61) so it won’t start too early given the massive strength of the cover. And, it is only 0.020 dif, so it won’t flare much making it a very controllable, but continuous motion (not get forward too quick). It also means layouts really don’t dramatically change the ball motion. The end result is a controllable, predictable motion that is urethane like, but does allow more open angles. For players who don’t have 500 rev rate, it gives them something to go to after the IQ 78 runs out of gas before being forced into true reactives. The Concept is an innovative idea which achieves exactly what it was intended to do- give urethane-like motion that bridges the gap between urethane and reactive. Storm even reduced the # of logos on the Concept in response to feedback from bowlers that the ball hopping over the labels as it rolls down the lane caused inconsistency in ball reaction. Once again, Storm proving why they are The Bowlers’ Company. I drilled mine 4 x 4 x 2 (4” pin to PAP, up 2” from the vertical axis line (VAL)). So far, I’ve only thrown it on a house pattern where it’s a little over under, but that’s not what the Concept is made for. It’s part of Storm’s new Tournament Series- balls intended for flatter, tournament patterns. I can’t wait to throw it on PBA regional patterns this season. The early returns from the PBA tour have been nothing but positive. Every high level player who bowls tournaments should have this ball in their bag.

Storm Concept: Ball specs: Radius weightblock with ARC pearl coverstock finished at 1000 grit. Layout: 4 ¼ x 3 3/16 x 3 ¼. Welcome to the next Lab series release: the all new Storm Concept. The Concept is all new from the inside out. The Radius weight block allows the ball to be manufactured with a weight block then wrapped in coverstock material which eliminates the need for filler material, that provides better durability of the cover because there is more cover to absorb the conditioner. Since starting to use the Concept, the BIGGEST difference between the LeveL and the Concept is that the overall reaction is stronger on the friction and holds more energy when hitting the pins. Where the LeveL has early motion and a real smooth reaction in the backend, almost urethane like entry into the pins, The Concept is stronger, and a ton more angle entering the pins. The cover did absorb the conditioner very quickly and the excess to wipe off between shots was very minimal. Now, I will clarify this is not a “benchmark” ball for me, BUT, it will replace my weaker drilled Hustle Earth and LeveL in my bags because it takes the place of both balls for me. Make sure you catch up with the Storm Concept and other new releases at the Matchmakers coming to your area soon. My next month’s events are: 3/14 - Spins in Pittsburgh - Duff’s Pro Shop 3/15 - Hanover Bowling Centre - Hanover, Pa 3/22 - Bowlers Discount Pro Shop, Ellicott City, Md. 3/29 - Penndel Lanes - Penndel, Pa.
Layout: 4 x 5 1/2 x 1 Surface: 1000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 Grit Tilt: 13* The new Concept is the next iteration of the Storm Lab Series. It includes brand new technology from both the core and coverstock. The new Radius core brings a very unique combination of core numbers that is not found typically in a stronger resin ball. The RG of 2.61 and differential of 0.020 is normally found in entry level resin type balls. The brand-new Arc pearl coverstock is extremely strong compared to typical coverstocks but creates a very nice and smooth arc with great continuation. I tested this on my typical house pattern. My lane surface although newer, has a lot of earlier friction on it. On the fresh, I saw pretty early hook but saw continuation through the pins. Unfortunately, with the added friction, the continuation lasted for about 5 shots before it became too early and smooth leaving the 2-4-5 from the ball losing energy. As I moved into the middle part of the lane and more head oil, I saw the good continuation again. I did have to get softer with my speed in order to see the hook from left to right. At the box surface, unless there is a lot head oil, this will get tough to use for a long period of time. As a result, I wanted to add Power Edge polish to see what the difference would be. As expected, I saw a lot more length and no issue getting through the front of the lane. However, the continuation became less as it did not slow down in the backend as much as being dull. I was able to move about 5 boards right and be much more up the lane to get to the pocket consistently. When I was close to the dry enough, I was able to have great carry. The only pit fall I had was when I missed right into the friction early. It would read the friction super quickly. As I moved in to the middle part of the lane, I saw too much length initially with the Power Edge. Once I softened my speed, it gave me great continuation again and gave me area left to right on the lane. I think for normal lane surfaces, the Concept will be better at a duller finish. I would likely change my surface to 3000 instead of power edge to get a little more midlane roll so I would not have to reduce my speed as much. Compared to the level, I found it to be slightly cleaner and much more off the spot. It wasn't quite as lazy as the level was for me especially throwing it left to right. I would recommend the Concept to someone who wants to have ultimate control on the fresh with some decent continuation that won't have to worry about the ball over hooking a lot. I would also recommend this to someone who loves the urethane balls but wants to upgrade above a Pitch Black or something comparable. The Concept is also legal for all levels of play due to it being resin and not urethane. The concept in my opinion would have more usage on tough lane conditions over house conditions. My opinion is that there are better ball options that are more true resin based for house conditions. For tough conditions, this ball will come with me on a wide variety of lengths. I think it takes surface changes well and the high absorption rate stops it from lane shining as fast as typical resin balls.
The Storm Concept is the latest addition to the ongoing tournament series collection and is also the next installment of the Lab Series. This ball features the brand-new Radius Weight Block, along with the Arc Pearl Reactive Cover Stock. It complements the Storm Level, which I had some success with during certain tournaments contested on lower volume patterns, along with my IQ78. As a big fan of playing the urethane game, I was excited to hear about the introduction of what the Concept can do in terms of ball motion and shape down lane. Ball layout: 50 x 4.5 x 35. I tested the Concept a few times on my 42ft league house shot, and on 37ft PBA Webb. What is amazing about this ball is the fact that although it isn’t urethane, it has a urethane-like shape but stronger. It’s very clean, very smooth, doesn’t flare as much, and doesn’t overreact at any point down lane. The ARC Cover stock blends so well the front part of the lane, the Radius Weight block keeps the ball in play with a smooth continuous motion down lane. Both my Level and IQ78 tend to pick up earlier down lane, whereas with the Concept, I can get the ball down the lane further with no early reaction, something I’ve been needing in my bag for quite some time, especially on tournament conditions. The Concept will also work great on a variety of lane conditions, depending on surface adjustments, and what you see on the lanes in terms of volume and mL’s. I would highly recommend the Concept be in your bag if the urethane game isn’t working and you are looking to level up. Be sure to drill one up from your local Storm VIP Pro Shop. The Concept is a must have!!
Ball Name: Concept DA Layout: 42 x 4 x 17 VLS Layout: 4 x 4 x 1 PAP: 4 1/8” over 1 1/4” up Ball Speed and Rev Rate: 16.5 mph, 430 rpms Oil Pattern Tested: House shot and 35 ft Cheetah The Storm Concept is something else, and I mean that in a good way. I am a higher axis rotation player and typically struggle with slow absorption bowling balls (e.g. urethane). The Concept gave me that super smooth urethane style motion, but it turned the corner when a urethane ball would typically go forward earlier. I tested this on house and shot 746 my first night with it, was able to play up 7 then eventually play deeper around 20 to 8 at a high friction center. It removed a lot of the over under I was seeing at the local center. Thing is, at the end of the night, the ball still looked somewhat dull. It doesn’t get oil soaked and seems like it hooks more and more once you get some games on it, love that! I also tested it on PBA Cheetah (video coming soon) at a fresh 1k surface on fresh and it gave me a much better look than my level and IQ78. To me, this ball is a standout in the Lab series line and I really love what SPI is doing with their new equipment for 2026. If you’re a rev dominant player like myself, don’t be afraid to drill this ball strong. I will be drilling another one at 5 x 4 x 2 to see the difference! Highly recommend

Storm Concept - SPI Lab Line Coverstock: ARC Pearl - 1000 Grit Core: Radius™ RG: 2. 61 Differential: . 020 Fragrance: Blueberry Fritter The Storm Concept has the strongest cover Storm has ever made, wrapped around one of the weakest cores Storm has ever made. With this mixture it gives the ball a very controlled reaction. I was looking to this ball more for sport patterns than house shots. What I have come to find out is that it is great on both. On house shots I can throw this ball usually the first 2 games and it creates all kinds of room. It rolls so smoothly off the friction and does not overreact. With the strong cover, it still is able to hook in oil in the middle part of lane. The thing that surprised me the most about this ball was the carry of corner pins. So many times where I thought it was coming in a little flat, it would still snap out the corners. Also trying it on a couple sport patterns, I feel like where this ball really shines. Where I would try the IQ 78 and it just was not quite enough, or would get lazy, the Concept would just power through. I was able to create some area that I just did not have with anything else. This will definitely need to be a ball in everyone’s tournament bag.
LEGAL Everywhere! The Storm Concept is very unique and a ball that I am extremely excited to have in my bag. This ball features the new ARC Pearl reactive coverstock paired with the Radius symmetrical core, coming in with a high RG 2.61 and very low differential 0.020, which gives it low flare and a super controlled shape, all wrapped in a 1000-grit finish that helps it read early without being jumpy. For me, this ball is all about control and confidence—it's basically that urethane-like motion but with way more hit and continuation. It gets through the fronts clean, reads the midlane smoothly, and never feels like it’s going to overreact or quit, which is huge on flatter or tougher patterns. I’ve found I can play a little straighter with it and just trust it to stay online and blend the lane, especially when reactive starts getting too quick or inconsistent. It’s not a ball I’m grabbing for big shape, but when I need something to control the pocket and keep things in front of me, the Concept is one of the most reliable pieces I’ve thrown. Storm Concept Storm Concept features and new coverstock and core design. The new Radius core is a High Rg and low diff core design and ARC pearl reactive coverstock is the strongest cover Storm has ever used. RG-2.61 Diff-.020 Surface-1000 Grit Abralon Layout VLS-4x5x1.75 The Concept will give you a very smooth but consistent ball reaction. The Concept will give you a urethane ball motion without carrydown due to the very fast oil absorbing coverstock. I compared the Concept to my Iq Tour 78/U Urethane ball and i found the Concept to be a little cleaner with more shape downlane but still allowed me to use it like urethane and still have alot of control. I also noticed the Concept had better hitting power than my urethnae options. The concept is going to be a great option on shorter oil patterns or when your trying to control the backends.
A new spin on urethane but not being urethane. This all new radius weight block wrapped in the arc pearl cover stock is a one 2 punch for any bowler looking for that urethane roll without actually throwing urethane. This ball will be very versatile for league or tournament play. Get to your local pro shop to put this staple in your bag!
You want something different? Then here it is. Storm is not only changing, but trying to make bowling better for all bowlers. There is very very little oil that comes back on this ball after throwing it. But when the lanes get tuff, or you want a little different reaction...Here you go. It reads the front part of the lane very well. It hooks, but doesn't over react. It's great for those wet/dry conditions, tournament conditions for a ball you can bowl, watch this ball, read its reaction and have fun with it. For me, I left it pretty much out of the box, added a little lane shine after throwing it a few games. It actually stays the way it is after a little lane shine and I like it better that way. One word to describe it...is different, there is nothing like it. You thought urethane was different for different lane conditions? This ball is a little better!
Ball: Storm Concept WWRD: 2/27/26 Fragrance: Blueberry Fritter Layout: 45 x 4 x 20 Surface: OOB Review: The Concept is a ball that can be used for many conditions. Short oil, flat patterns, and even taming high friction surfaces. This ball is 100% reactive but gives off a urethane type motion. Testing Conditions: Burned up THS and Stone Street Oil Pattern. On the Burned up THS shot, it was on wood lanes. This ball was able to get the length I needed, make the turn and continue through the pins. It did not overhook and maintained a smooth continuous motion. On the Stone Street, this ball was ideal for playing the extreme outside. When it found oil for me, it labored. That is understandable because this ball performance best on lots of friction. I throw 14lbs with 250-300 rpm at 14mph, and I was able to get this ball jump off the spot very easily. The other thing I noticed is there was absolutely no "urethane" type push because this ball absorbs oil as it is reactive. The one thing I also noticed, if I miss it at the bottom it's still picks up the lane and reacts. Recommend use: Flat patterns, short patterns, high friction, and when you want to blend the over/under. When the IQ tour solid is too much, ball down to this! This ball will be carried everywhere I go because it is so versatile and can handle extreme conditions with ease.
Concept is in the same vein as the Level, which was sort of a urethane alternative/ultimate medium control ball. They've achieved this with a low differential, urethane-style light bulb core that has a higher RG, but they've replaced a urethane cover with something that absorbs oil at a really high rate versus urethane, which doesn't really absorb oil at all. I've thrown this ball a little bit in competition and I've also filmed my review where I threw several shots. The review is on the burn. I was geared up in speed a good bit, but live-fire in league, I've been able to throw this really straight in front of me on fresh, and also on an over/under condition, I was able to use it across the pattern with slower ball speed to blend them out. It's one of those balls that I can be really aggressive with my hand and it just mid lanes and rounds off. It doesn't do anything crazy. It really does capture that ultimate control ball motion in a way more versatile package for me than typical urethane. If you're a big urethane user but your usability window is short, or the footprint of urethane really makes the lanes unplayable for you, then Concept is a great way to break down the lanes more effectively and still have an ultimate control shape in your hand. -Chase Valenzuela

I might not ever throw urethane again. Concept acts like urethane, but it absorbs oil. It makes the lanes BETTER if you use it right. It’s legal everywhere. Ball gets better the more oil it absorbs because it smooths out even more. It’s the best “control” ball I’ve ever had. It gives me all the control but it hits better than any other “urethane type” ball I’ve ever thrown. I drilled one normal and I drilled one super strong and they’re both really good! Storm Concept Coverstock: ARC Pearl Finish: 1000 Grit Abralon Core: Radius (14pd.) There has been a lot of misinformation out there regarding urethane, urethane options and blended type balls in this category. The easiest way to combat such information is that these type of balls offer early read of the lanes and control type reactions. This works well for over/under type conditions and also shorter modified/sport patters. The Radius core is designed to respond slower to friction providing the bowler maximum type control. The Arc Pearl coverstock is what stands out on this ball. It absorbs oil rather than pushing oil which allows the player to stay in the Concept much longer than traditional urethane. It even absorbs oil much faster than the previous Lab Series ball the Storm Level. In addition, the Level for me fell a bit into the traditional urethane look so it has been overshadowed by my Storm Pitch Black and Storm Fast Pitch. The RPM coverstock is not as good as Arc Pearl in my opinion. Recently, we changed my Level layout to see if we can see a different type of reaction. I plan on continuing to see what the Level can do as well. Especially since I enjoy urethane on a wide variety of conditions. Pro Tip: For those that traditionally tend to dislike urethane or urethane-ish offerings, don't hesitate to surface your new ball to a higher grit like 3K or 4K than gradually bring the surface down to your 1K or 500K grit. The reason being most bowlers dislike the early motion of the ball oob and give up before letting the lane shine and peaks of the ball to settle in a bit. If you have had this experience previously give the surface suggestion the "good old college try". I think this pro tip might just work for you. When the initial announcement came out from SPI regarding the Concept I was extremely excited. The Concept is the type of ball a large number of bowlers can use. I even recently drilled a second Concept to match my urethane offerings. The diversity in both balls will likely be enough to carry both to wide range of tournaments. I highly recommend the Concept. Storm Concept Ball Review by PJ Haggerty As most of us know, there’s been a huge demand for Urethane equipment in with today’s conditions. There’s also been significant rule changes for using those types of balls in competition. The newest addition to that conversation is the Concept from Storm. The way the rules read now, the Concept can be used anywhere around the world and in any type of tournament. I’ve drilled two so far and really like it. In 15lbs, the RG is 2.61 and the differential is .020 which tells us, this ball likely won’t flare much and is designed to be extremely stable along with predictability. The first one I drilled very similarly to the Urethane balls I had the most success with (Pitch Black and Fast Pitch). The layout is 3 x 4 x 1. This is a very tall pin with the CG just under my ring finger. The second one I drilled is more of a traditional layout coming out to 5 x 3.5 x 3. This puts the pin above my ring finger with a slight kick of the CG. Both balls provide different motions. The one with the 1” buffer tends to be more forward down-lane where the one with the 3” buffer is a bit more forward. I’ve left the surfaces alone, but have had success with using them on all types of patterns and surfaces. The Concept is so much different than anything else in the line that I think it should be in league and tournament players’ bags moving forward. All styles and rev rates can find success with the Concept. Go drill one! #StormNation
If you have watched any professional bowling this year, you are already familiar with the Storm Concept. This ball is being used on all patterns, including USBC Nationals. I drilled mine 4x4x1 and threw a nice little 12 bagger out of the box. With the tournament season upon us and all of the rule changes that have occurred, this ball is a must have in the bag. It is going to continue to be the first ball out of my bag whenever I travel, the ball has a continuous shape while also reading the lane early enough to give me shape when I'm looking for it. I kept it at a nice 3000 grit for tournament play.
The new Storm Concept is a ball unlike any other. It features the Radius weight block and the all new ARC Pearl coverstock. At 15 pounds The Concept has a high RG of 2.61 and a low differential of .020. The Concept will give you that urethane reaction you are looking for, but this ball absorbs oil instead of dragging the oil down the lane like traditional urethane balls. What the means is you can throw the Concept longer without having to worry about leaving those weak corner pins from all the urethane carry down. This ball is very popular on the PBA tour, as is it is legal everywhere, since it is not urethane, it can be thrown in any tournament. This ball is a must for the tournament bowler when you need a smooth predictable ball motion. The cover on The Concept is strong enough to handle some of the heavier oil patterns as well as medium to light oil conditions. You need to throw this ball for yourself to see what all the hype is about!
I drilled my Storm Concept 4x4x1, and it’s honestly one of the more versatile balls I’ve thrown in a while. What stands out right away is how responsive it is to hand position...you can really manipulate shape without feeling like you’re fighting the ball. I’ve been able to play pretty much anywhere on the lane with it. If I want to stay more up the back, it blends things out and keeps that smooth, controllable motion. If I get around it a little more, it responds and gives me enough motion without over-jumping. The biggest thing for me is that it doesn’t quit downlane. It keeps driving through the pins and doesn’t lose direction like urethane tends to, especially once the lanes start to transition. It’s clean enough to get through the fronts, but still has that continuous motion you want when it sees friction. Overall, it’s just a really reliable piece that lets you stay in control and adjust without having to ball change as quickly. Definitely earned a spot in the bag.
Storm Concept Coverstock: ARC Pearl Reactive Finish: 1000-grit Abralon Core: Radius Weight Block RG: 2.61, Diff: 0.020 (15 lbs) VLS Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 x 1 Dual Angle Layout: 45 x 4 1/2 x 15 PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up Rev rate: 400 rpm Average speed: 16.5 mph Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The new Storm Concept is the next release in Storm’s SPI Lab Series and is a new ‘concept’ in bowling ball technology. Designed to provide a urethane-like motion that is consistent and controlled but offer more continuation on the backend like you’d expect from a traditional resin bowling ball. The specs of the core and cover are something typically reserved for entry-level balls, but the new ARC Pearl reactive coverstock is extremely strong and essentially forces the ball to continue hooking through the pins. I have never been much of a fan of urethane motion, it’s a shape that just doesn’t fit my eye. I drilled my Storm Concept with a stronger drilling that puts the pin closer to my vertical axis line to help give the ball more response when it hits the dry boards. I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen thus far. It has given me a urethane-like ball motion in the front and middle part of the lane that is smooth, controlled, and stays on line. But unlike urethane, the ARC Pearl reactive cover gives it a little extra kick on the backend, which is something I don’t get out of urethane bowling balls. When compared to the Level, I have been able to play nearly identical lines with the Concept. However, with the Level I get a light mixing strike or often leave weak 10 pins, but the Concept finishes a little harder on the backend and is higher flush in the pocket. The Concept definitely deserves a spot in any tournament bowler’s bag – especially those that struggle with urethane motion. For me, it’s the ball I’ve been looking for to help bridge the gap of urethane control without giving up downlane motion that urethane lacks. Chris Pollentier Storm Products Pro Shop Staff
Introducing the Storm Concept built to control short oil patterns and high friction surfaces. The ARC Pearl coverstock runs at the USBC maximum for coefficient of friction and oil absorption time — both limits simultaneously. It has a Radius Weight Block — with a 2.61 RG and 0.020 differential at 15 lbs. I am speed dominant, average rev rate 250-275ish, low-medium tilt and medium rotation. I drilled mine 30x 3 1/2 x 20. My axis point is 4 3/8 over 1 3/8 up. This ball is good for me on fresh oil conditions at 500 grit. In league I start with my Concept then change to the Bionic. These two are great one two punch for game 1 and 2. Go get yours at your local Storm VIP shop today! #StormNation #sm2proshop #Deviousbowling
The Storm Concept is one of the more unique pieces Storm has put out in a long time, designed to live in that space between urethane and reactive. It features the new Radius core (2.62 RG, .019 diff in 14 pounds) paired with the ARC Pearl reactive coverstock at a 1000 grit finish. On paper, that combination tells you exactly what it wants to be — low flare, high control, and extremely stable. I drilled mine 4x4x2, exactly how I layout urethane, and that’s really where this ball fits. The Concept gives you that urethane-like shape — early read, smooth motion, and very predictable — but without the typical urethane drawbacks. It absorbs oil, blends the lane much better, and most importantly, it goes through the pins stronger. What separates the Concept from traditional urethane options like the Pitch Black or IQ 78U is the versatility and continuation. It still controls the pocket and keeps everything in front of you, but it doesn’t quit downlane the same way urethane. You can play straighter, you can use it on tougher patterns, and you don’t have to worry as much about carrydown. That said, this is not a ball you’re grabbing for entry angle. It’s smooth, controlled, and very forward — which is exactly the point. The Concept really shines on short patterns, flatter conditions, and anything where you need to blend out the lane and take the over/under out of play. All that while still playing great on a house shot! If you like urethane but want more hit and versatility, or if you need a true control piece for tournament conditions, the Concept is absolutely worth a spot in the bag.
