The Unknown is easily my favorite SWAG release to date. What stands out to me most is the combination of incredible strength and controllability. This ball is so forgiving its like a heatseaking missile set on the pocket. The Unknown gives me excellent traction through the midlane while still saving enough energy to create a smooth, crushing motion on the backend. The biggest advantage for me is how predictable this ball is. Shot after shot, I feel like I know exactly what the ball is going to do. The Unknown has a strong but controlled shape that makes it extremely versatile. It reads the midlane hard enough to handle heavier oil, but the backend motion is smooth and powerful rather than flippy. When it gets to the pins, it carries that energy through the pocket with authority. For my game, the Unknown is a dependable piece that I can rely on when I need strength, control, and predictable ball motion.

The SWAG Unknown Bowling Ball is the first ball out of my bag on fresh oil every league night. For reference, my ball layout is 70 x 4 x 20. I am a medium speed, low to medium rev bowler. This ball is great for when I know I am going to be dealing with heavy oil or if I’m dealing with longer oil patterns. It gets through the fronts easily and stores up enough energy to continue through the pins without burning up. This ball has a predictable motion that continues through the pins. Not only does this ball do its job, it looks good going down the lanes as well. I would definitely recommend this ball if you’re looking for a solid benchmark ball.

My first session was on a fresh league pattern. Right away, the Unknown Solid did exactly what it’s supposed to do: it read the midlane. Dressed in the subtle True Blue/Steel Blue swirls, it’s not flashy, and neither is the motion. It is smooth. It is honest. There is absolutely no "surprise" snap at the breakpoint. It gave me a very strong, arcing motion that started rolling about 35 feet down the lane and just continued through the pins. When I missed inside into the oil, it held line rather than skating. When I missed outside to the friction too early, it smoothed out the hook rather than jerking left violently. Being to play a tight line around second arrow (board 10) out to about board 7 at the breakpoint. I didn’t have to chase the oil inside too quickly because the symmetric core kept the ball from burning up too fast. The hit is soft but powerful; it has a tendency to carry light hits very well. As the fronts started to dry out and people migrated inside, the Unknown Solid started to struggle. The solid cover stock at 3000 grit began to read too early, causing the ball to lose its finish. I could make a small move inside, but the symmetric core didn't quite have the backend "pop" needed to return from deeper angles once the oil was gone. This is where I would typically transition to something like a shiny pearl or a hybrid with a lower RG. It’s not a ball that will "wow" you with Messenger strikes or catastrophic backend motion. But if you want a ball that you can trust to get you through the first game and a half of league with a consistent, readable look, this is it. It’s the "scout" that tells you exactly how the lanes are playing so you know when to switch to your more aggressive equipment.

It comes out of the box with a 3000 grit finish. My layout is 45 x 4 1/4 x 30. I played straight with this ball and I was also able to open up the lane with this ball. I was bowling on 46ft house shot, and this ball comes off the spot hard, and it is very continuous threw the pin deck. This ball needs oil. For my game, the Unknown gives me a good amount of length through the front of the lane while still making a strong, controlled move when it gets to the breakpoint. What stands out to me the most is how comfortable I feel throwing it. I don’t feel like I have to force the ball to make it back to the pocket. I can move around as the lanes change and still get a reaction I can trust. It’s one of those balls that gives me confidence when I step on the approach, and I can definitely see myself keeping the Unknown in my regular rotation.

Style: traditional 1 handed righty Rev rate: 450 Speed: 17 mph Layout: 55x3-3/4x35 I honestly didn't know what to expect with this ball at first. I watched a couple of ball reviews and read some. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that everyone kept talking about the "continuation" on this ball. Looking at the videos, the unknown was very controlled and carried well even when you opened up your angles. After throwing this ball a bit, I realized that the carry was better than what I'm used to with the other Swag balls, especially when I'm playing wide with this ball. One of my friends who was watching me throw this ball mentioned how it continuous it was through the pins despite opening up my angles so much. Threw this once in league with one of the games being a 279! I threw so many bad shots in that game, but I also had a lot of messengers and forgiveness from this ball when the horrible shots happened. I'm honestly super happy I got this ball and would easily recommend this ball to anyone who was looking for a ball that is easy controllable and has good continuation through the pins. Its a sanded, symmetric solid, the ball has a strong, predictable motion that makes it easy to read the lanes and adjust your line.
