Storm Pro Motion Review
While no longer in production, the Storm Pro Motion remains a solid option on the used market for bowlers seeking reliable performance on medium-heavy oil conditions. The symmetric Piston Core provides predictable motion that many bowlers prefer over today's more aggressive asymmetric designs.
hello everyone welcome back to jr pro shop vids today we're doing a new ball review video of the storm pro motion my name is jordan jung back here with my cousin jacob two-time national champ for the junior vision this year awesome bowling this year man thank you my man all right the pro motion is part of the signature line by storm the first one in the line was the velma ball the timeless and then they went to the drive and the one we'll be reviewing today is the promotion the new promotion features a 252 rg and
a zero four nine differential this ball is being marketed as very smooth and continuous through the mid lane and back end this ball features all new piston core and the same cover stock as the crux prime called the spec solid cover stock the promotion is a brand new ball that came out by storm and obviously i want it because it's made by the best boy in the world belmo monty jordan why did you want the promotion i love every symmetric solid i've ever
thrown so this is another one my pap is four and seven eighths over and three eighths up uh the layout i'm going to go with today is 65 by five by 25 because i need a little bit more length and a little bit more continuous back end my pap is five and a half inches over and two up the layout i want for the pro motion will be 80 by 4 by 60. i want the drilling to be a bit stronger than the iq because i have a gap in my arsenal between the physics and the iq
[Music] here we are out on the lanes after we just drilled the new promotions i'm gonna compare the promotion to the storm drive the previous ball in velmo's lineup and jake's gonna compare his promotion to the new crux sweet we're gonna be bowling on the oil pattern gateway arch it's about 42 feet and we're about to throw on the fresh
[Music]
my first impression of this ball is that it's unbelievably smooth i can stay right on the fresh and it won't overreact on the drive and uh compared to my drive on the same line my drive is definitely much harder off the back end sweet i'm kind of feeling the same thing honestly i when i see this ball go down lane i'm thinking of the iq tour of how smooth and continuous it is and when i compare it to my crux prime obviously it's even though it's the same
cover stock you're also different cores which means one acen and the promotion is a sim so the provost is more smooth when the truck's power just wants to bite [Music] [Music]
[Music] [Applause] so we just pulled about four games on our lane two over here and heading into the breakdown i expect the pro motion to get even smoother i moved about five boards during the breakdown practice and we'll get back at it [Music] [Applause] [Music]
[Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music]
[Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so the promotion is probably very good on the fresh and on this condition right here after about one or two games of league about four to five games of actual gold on lanes and uh we'll see yeah we're gonna pull four more games here and see what it does on the bird how'd you feel about it on the uh i felt really good about the promotion as i move in definitely with the rev
raid that we have it just creates a nice angle and a really nice miss room in between left and right so i was really happy with the motion that we were getting out the pro motion [Laughter] so how was the promotion on the breakdown comparing to your drive oh yes the promotion is much more smoother on the overall than the drive i left a couple 10 pins and a couple of light strikes with a promotion and the drive left a couple nine pins on the same line so
promotion starts up earlier and as much smoother through the back end where the drive goes a little bit cleaner through the front and definitely picks up and drives harder through the pins so how would you compare your crux prime to your new promotion first of all both of the balls are very awesome i found that the pro motion is much smoother than the crux prime but the crux prime because it's an asim it definitely was snapping harder reading a bit earlier on the lens so the pro motion on the breakdown gave me the nice long and then nice
continuous motion into the pocket so let's do some more bowling to create the bird [Music] me [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so
so we just bowled about four to five games more here on lane two trying to drive the lane break the oil down a little bit to see what the pro just to see what the pro motion does eight to nine games later on on the same lane uh i found that the cover stock is probably just a little bit too strong if you get really deep i threw a few shots there at crossing 23 to 25 of the arrows and i was leaving 10 pins coming a little bit weak and when i threw the drive on the same line it was uh it went through the beach much better so i think for this ball fresh oil and maybe one to
two games in if you're on a four player team for league second or first game is probably the best for this ball and uh once the lane is dry out you have to get a little bit deeper uh it's probably the cover struck it's probably a little bit too strong so you have to put us up a little bit here how'd you feel about it i felt pretty good as similar to you as uh the more games we play definitely the pro motions start getting lighter weaker and just not really going through the prints comparing it to the crux time that i had i was able to move even further left i'm
slowing down my speed try to get more hand into it so it can snap back at the end the correct primaries definitely hang the pins much harder than the pro motion so i guess you're right pro motion is definitely better for the earlier [Music] [Applause] [Music]
[Applause] so [Music]
all right we just completed bowling uh what did you feel about the ball final conclusions oh my gosh this ball is overall the smoothest ball i've ever thrown it it really resembles the iq and it's smooth and what i like to think i used to have a idol a normal pink idol so i'd say the idol and then the iq had a baby it's this ball right here the promotion and i say that the promotion would be very good on those early games like we saw on the press s and then the
breakdown although on the burn we definitely had to pull it and then it didn't do so well for that how about you i agree completely uh first game fresh uh two to three games in unbelievable super smooth reads the mid lanes really well aggressive and super smooth in the back in the back end but once we got bow on many games eighth ninth tenth game and we had to move left this ball just starts up a little bit too early and doesn't have enough pop down lane so started leaving ten pins two eight tens
a couple two pins and when we did strike it was a light streak so definitely uh for the earlier games of the day whatever and uh compared to the drive in the later games i'd be definitely using my drive uh just a little bit uh cleaner through the fronts uh more angular off the back end went through the pins way better on the burn so pro motion fresh breakdown unbelievable super small amazing
thing get the ball it's good if you want to learn more about the amazing ball that we just threw check right here it's an amazing video by storm where they actually created the promotion you see the number one bowler jason belmonte uh find and choose which ball that he really wanted and there's also some very important facts that goes into the makeup of the ball if you want to watch another ball review i suggest buffa distribution ball reviews right here they do an excellent
job lots of great info thanks for watching [Music] you
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Independent testing revealed that the Storm Pro Motion delivers exceptional smoothness and continuity through the midlane and backend, particularly on fresh oil. On the Gateway Arch 42-foot oil pattern, the ball demonstrated a notably gradual, predictable arc compared to its predecessor, the Storm Drive. Testers observed that the Pro Motion’s symmetric core produced a longer, more continuous motion into the pocket—characteristics reminiscent of the IQ Tour line. The reactive solid coverstock paired with the new piston core generated reliable midlane read with minimal overreaction on the fresh, allowing bowlers to maintain line consistency without dramatic adjustments during the opening games.
However, the testing also exposed a meaningful limitation: the Pro Motion’s coverstock proved too aggressive for heavily worn lane conditions. As oil broke down over 8–10 games of actual play, the ball began reading the lanes earlier than desired, resulting in a weaker pin carry and missed pocket hits on backend reads. Testers who moved to deeper angles and higher speeds in the later games noted increased 10-pin leaves and light strikes, whereas the Storm Drive maintained cleaner frontside motion and sharper backend drive through the same degraded condition. This behavior pattern suggests the Pro Motion is optimized for the first 1–3 games of league play or early tournament blocks before significant oil depletion.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Storm Pro Motion is an excellent choice for bowlers who bowl early in league sessions or tournament blocks and value smooth, predictable ball motion over reactive aggression. It suits players with moderate to above-average rev rates who want a symmetric solid that reads the midlane clearly without demanding extreme adjustments on fresh oil. The ball’s continuous motion makes it particularly valuable for bowlers looking to develop consistent line play and understand how reactive coverstocks interact with healthy lane oil.
However, this ball is less ideal for bowlers who typically bowl later in the day when lanes are heavily broken down, or for those who need a single workhorse ball capable of handling both fresh and dry conditions. Those players would benefit more from the Storm Drive or asymmetric options like the Crux Prime, which maintain better pin action through extended play. The Pro Motion works best as part of a larger arsenal—a go-to early-game ball paired with a more angular piece for backend conditions.
The Pros
- • Strong midlane read with controlled hook motion
- • Predictable ball reaction due to symmetric core design
- • Excellent value on used market as discontinued ball
The Cons
- • Limited versatility outside medium-heavy oil conditions
- • May struggle on lighter oil patterns
Who Is This Ball For?
While no longer in production, the Storm Pro Motion remains a solid option on the used market for bowlers seeking reliable performance on medium-heavy oil conditions. The symmetric Piston Core provides predictable motion that many bowlers prefer over today's more aggressive asymmetric designs.

Bowlers Say
Bowlers say the Pro Motion is a smooth, predictable benchmark ball that excels on medium to heavy oil patterns. The SPEC coverstock provides excellent traction in oil while the Piston core creates controllable yet continuous backend motion. It gets cleaner through the fronts than the Crux Prime but stronger than the IQ Tour, fitting perfectly between them in most arsenals.

Bowlers frequently mention:
The new Pro-Motion is a new collaboration between Storm and Jason Belmonte. For me, this ball will be the first ball out of my bag at every tournament. It does everything the !Q Tour did when it first came on the scene. I was able to get my hand up the back and play closer to the friction and I was also able to get it to loop the lane without giving up any hitting power. The Pro-Motion has the SPEC Cover that we first saw on the Crux Prime. I think this make these two balls a good one two punch. If you're bowling on an oil pattern that is higher volume or really cliffed, you can start practice with a Pro-Motion. If you see the ball just isn't enough yet, a simple switch to the Crux will do the trick! I can't wait to throw this ball on some harder patterns that are closer to 1:1. Another great character trait of the pro motion is that I think it will be perfect for the transition games. Whenever you are bowling a tournament or league, the lanes are most definitely going to get funky after some shots are thrown on it. Throwing a Pro-Motion here will allow you to control the pocket and come away with consistent ball reaction that will keep your scores high!! Overall, its a step down from the Crux Prime and stronger than an original !Q Tour!
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJNvZtI7AbM&feature=youtu.be Ball Review: I had the opportunity to drill 2 Pro-Motions and experiment with some new layouts as I been looking to expand upon my arsenal. Both layouts have lower flaring pin distances then I am used to. I wanted to see cleaner more angular motions especially when it comes to confronting transition. The first layout I used was 45 x 4 1/4 x 35. The first and last angle is something I liked on my Hy-Road Nano as it is one of my favorite benchmark balls. The pin distance on the Nano was a more aggressive 3 1/2 pin. Lately I have felt handcuffed in the wrong ball later in blocks as it would flare too early thus burning up and not having the right shape down lane. This layout, and in particular the next layout which we will discuss shortly, will allow me to stay in the ball longer on the fresh and possibly jump into it as a first transition ball. I noticed I was able to start in my comfort zone then slowly start to chase it in. I had to make sure I threw it to the dry as if I missed inside the ball wouldn't recover in time to make it back to the pocket. I would have probably seen that recovery in one of my other stronger layouts. As long as my angles were open to the dry the ball matched up real well. The second Pro-Motion has a layout of 60 x 4 3/4 x 30. This will get the ball even cleaner through the front and provide even more angle down lane. What I found interesting with this particular layout I was able to play 2 different lines and shapes at different houses. In the video I was able to jump inside and swing the lane a bit creating good shape down lane. I bowled in a different center the following day and was able to pike it up the track area and found a whole bunch of room. The latter is something I am looking more for; keeping me right for a longer period of time as that will help create maximum carry. It is nice knowing that if the lane develops where I have to jump left this ball may still be an option as well. All Storm Bowling enthusiasts will love this ball. The Pro-Motion is a great benchmark ball that provides a lot of options in terms of layouts and in creating different shapes which is what is needed when bowling in different environments.
ProMotion by Belmo Drill Angles at 70x5x40 To start this is a completely different shape then any Storm/roto ball I have ever thrown. The Spec cover allows for the ball to start digging in heavy volumes, but the new core shape with an RG of 2.52 and diff of .049 creates a smooth, round continuous shape. You have heard it from alot of places so far, and benchmark is the correct word. This has been the first ball out of my bag since i drilled it. I am going to drill another one as well! Fits well inbetween the Crux prime and IQ tour! Chris Polizzi Regional Champion, Bowlersmart Proshop Operator
I put my new Storm ProMotion to the test right out of the gate. I bowled in a tournament on a 7:1, 42' challenge pattern. Having not thrown a single frame with it on a house shot, I kept my options open. To be completely honest, this ball wasn't the benchmark ball for this pattern. I used it in 5-8 frame chunks in 2 different squads. Like the Crux Prime, the Spec solid cover allows the ball to slow down and stand up in the mid-lane. As the shot tightened up forcing me to keep my angles tight, I found it easier to control the pocket. The amount of flare I saw from the Piston core was unexpected. Even though I did go with a higher flaring layout (2x4x4), I didn't expect to see the full 6" of flare on a symmetrical ball. With my higher ball speed and low axis tilt angle, getting as much fresh ball surface on the mid-lane as I can helps me recover and carry. The symmetrical core helped keep the shape of the ball predictable while playing tight, inside angles. This ball would fit nicely in a bag with the Crux Prime, Astro Physix and the !Q Tour Emerald. The New Pro-Motion by Storm in collaboration with Jason Belmonte is amazing. The same SPEC coverstock that is on the Crux Prime is the only similarity the Pro-Motion shares with the Prime. The Pro-Motion has an all new Piston core that creates a lot more shape than the Prime while also not burning up in the front part of the lane. The deeper I move with this ball the more it responds off the break point. To be a Solid it has a very defined breakpoint that the Crux Prime does not have. With this ball I wanted something that would get down lane and still turn the corner and it did not disappoint. Usually a Pin-in-ring layout is what I would have used for this ball but instead I went with a pin above the bridge which gives me a layout of 49 x 5-1/8 x 44. It still allows me to stay left when the lanes are fresh, if there is another lefty this ball allows me to continue moving right and it will continue to make the turn into the pocket. For me I believe this ball will handle the heavier volume sport shots like a champ allowing me to move into my sweet spot and trusting the ball to read the lane properly.
