Laid out at 85 x4 3/8 x 40 to match my old Idol Helios. The new optimum is about 4-5 boards stronger than the helios and comes off the spot significantly stronger. Its can jump uncontrollably if lead to the outside early but if its keep in a little bit of oil it performs phenomenally. This is definitely a ball I will us on higher volume patterns. It will compliment the Absolute Power in my bag that has a slightly less and more rounded layout very well.

The Optimum Idol is the benchmark ball I have been waiting for since the OG Idol. The Optimum Idol has the MicroTrax solid cover stock wrapped around the iconic Ikon core energized by A.I. Core technology. Optimum Idol has an RG of 2.47 and differential of 0.056, which makes a great midlane read with an aggressive yet consistent backend reaction and great hitting power. This ball is great on medium oil patterns. It will perform at a high level in the track area and in to the fourth arrow without any loss of ball reaction and pin carry. Put your favorite pin up layout on the Optimum Idol and you will not be disappointed. This ball is a must have for league and tournament bowlers. Now available for order at your local pro shop! Roto Grip’s new is a Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge and the CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a burned up house 43’ pattern. Out of box ball motion was that it started early in the mids with a continuous motion on the backend. I compared this piece to the Hustle RIP (3-3 Right) and Tour Dynam-X (1-1 Right). I did not throw the original Idol but I am hearing this is a similar piece to it.

The Optimum Idol was released as basically a new version of the original Idol while adding the AI Core Technology which makes the RG slightly lower and Differential higher than its predecessor. I got to test this on my 44ft typical House Shot and I saw a ball that was certainly a benchmark with added pop down lane. Compared to the original Idol, I actually found the Optimum to be a little cleaner and more responsive in the back part of the lane by about 3 boards overall. The original Idol was best where the angle was more in front of you, and you needed to control the lane. The Optimum Idol allowed me to open up the lane a little more to start and gave me more left to right miss room. It reads the midlane pretty strong as expected and gave ample continuation through the pins. It wasn't as forward rolling as the original. This will make the ball more versatile and usable on a wider variety of oil patterns. I believe this ball will work for many styles as that traditional benchmark type ball. Great for the fresh and controlling the lanes will be its forte. Polishing this one will give a little more down lane angle which would make it useful during transition on lanes or patterns that have a lot more friction. I expect the Optimum Idol to be in my tournament arsenal for a large majority of oil patterns that I will see.

The Idol is BACK and better than ever! The Optimum Idol utilizes the proven MicroTrax Solid cover and Ikon core combination while being enhanced with A.I. core technology. The Optimum is designed to be the benchmark ball in your arsenal and create continuous motion for bowlers of all skill levels. The Optimum Idol gave me a great look sliding on 25, looking 15 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 8-9. I was able to play multiple angles by changing my speed and hand position. It also did an excellent job blending out the wet/dry on our high friction house pattern. When compared to the 900 Global Xponent, it was cleaner and created more shape downlane with more overall hook. The Optimum Idol feels very similar to the original and will be one of the first balls out of my bag no matter what condition I’m bowing on. The original Idol was one of my all time favorite balls and I can’t wait to put the Optimum to the test in league and tournaments. The Optimum will fit below the Gem and above the TNT Infused. The Optimum Idol features a second RG Core with A.I. technology. Essentially, this means to the bowler is more length and more motion off the spot compared to previous releases. You'll also keep hearing that A.I. technology provides up to five-percent more carry on off hits. Keep in mind the cover is MicroTrax which is one of the most aggressive coverstocks RG offers.
The Optimum Idol is an excellent symmetric option for fresher lanes. We have already witnessed/read about some incredible results with the Optimum Idol, namely Stu Williams and Jesper Svensson. Look to use the out of the box finish and let some lane shine build on the ball to break it in. As noted ^ the coverstock is strong on the Optimum Idol.
A good ball to compare the Optimum Idol to is the Helios. For me the Helios was a tad earlier and smoother. Also, the Helios for me would tend to burn up early and to the eye not go through the pins the way I ideally wanted on transitioning patterns. However, the Optimum Idol at the OOB finish is perfectly fine and I'm more pleased than I initially thought from reviewing the specs. The predictable motion of the Optimum Idol is one of the keys to this ball being a winner.
As noted above, I prefer the Optimum Idol smoother shape compared to other offerings. This is due to my personal preference for smoother arc type reactions for tournament play. Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Ball Specs: Ikon core with A.I. outer core with Micro-Trax solid coverstock
Layout: 5 x 4 x 3 at box finish of 2000 grit abralon
Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down and tested on Pro-Lane at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, Pa., and Colony Park Lanes and Games in York, Pa.
With the past overwhelming success of the original Roto Grip Idol, we brought the past to the current technological levels that Storm is known for. The Ikon core is an “Icon” when it comes to the Roto Grip ball lines. I noticed over the OG Idol, that the travel through the pin deck has improved with the A.I. outer core technology and updating the cover to the Micro-Trax it digs through the pattern, but does not lose any energy in the backend of the lane. When the Optimum Idol gains some lane shine and matches more to the Pro-Lane panels I bowl most on, the consistency of reaction and pin carry increases. When I bowled on older HPL – I freshened the cover with a new VISE 2000 grit pad and once again the reaction and pin carry was intense. I tried every aspect of my game, outside the track, in the track, and around the track area and the new Idol responded to my every need. I can now see why I seen other bowlers chomping at the bit when this ball was unveiled, this ball will be a HUGE hit for any level of league bowler and tournament bowler. A stronger version of a Phaze II is where I would put this in my tournament arsenal.

The Optimum Idol is the modern version of an absolute classic! This ball takes the beloved Ikon core and combines it with A.I. technology. This dual density application makes the core more dynamic. With decreased RG and increased Differential, This ball revs up quicker and continues more than any Idol so far. The Idol's have always been a pinch slow for me, and I've found myself throwing other balls in the same spot that are a little more continuous. The Optimum is the first Idol i can consistently get to go through the deck the right way, whether i/I'm throwing it hard and straight or throwing it slow and across it. This is such a unique shape compared not only to previous Idol's, but to anything else in the product line. You do NOT want to miss this one!

The new Optimum Idol features the famous Ikon core now with A.I. Tech wrapped with MicroTrax solid cover is the benchmark of todays game! I honestly don’t even need to write a review it’s another legendary Idol that can be used on any lane, any pattern and by any player! Smooth predictable motion I do feel it’s a little stronger than the original. I just recently used it in a PBA event on 40FT and it was the perfect ball out of urethane for me! If you don’t have this ball in your arsenal for Open Championship you need to pick one up asap!

The legendary IDOL is back, this time sporting AI technology. The Optimum Idol features the same IKON block and Microtrax solid cover that made the original Idol the GOAT for strong mid-lane benchmark motion.
I tested the Optimum in league on our long heavy house pattern. I hadn't used the original alot because it was so strong up front and with my ball speed it was often too early. I've been working on getting the stronger balls out further on the front lane panels and I was excited to see how the Optimum Idol would look. The first couple shots I laid down a little cleaner and I saw the same strong early roll I remembered from the Idol, but the same problem with so much energy being used early. I tried a touch of loft and all of a sudden it felt impossible to miss the pocket. I did have to be aware of not getting down too clean or I could flat 10, but I really felt like the Optimum gave me a ton of room to get to the pocket. Misses in, misses out, mis-hits off my hand the ball just kept finding the pocket. The only minor difference I saw from the old Idol was that this one seemed just a touch quicker but I'd hate to have to live on the difference.
I think the Optimum Idol is going to be a popular one. It takes the place of the original and that is a spot I feel many people had been missing in their bags. This ball will be a tournament staple and particularly popular with bowlers on the firmer side of speed or with a bit less hand.

The Optimum Idol is the newest ball in the HP3 line and the return of the idol. This is featuring the microtrax solid cover that was found on the gem and has now been beefed up with Ai core tech. This will give you the familiar idol shape just a little stronger. This ball will fit various bowlers from high rev rates looking for an oil tank or the lower rev bowler looking for a benchmark shape. I was super excited about grabbing this ball to add to my arsenal. I’m a returning player back to this great sport of bowling after not bowling for about 10 years. I have been slowly building my arsenal back and getting my game on track. This ball does exactly what I wanted it to do, controlling the pocket on the fresh playing up the track. I’m not a rev dominant player I’m a speed dominant player and I need something that would read the mid lane for me and not blow past my breakpoint. This has slotted into that position for me. I drilled mine 45x 3 3/4x 45 and I love the shape it gives me game 1,2,and start of 3 in league. It has become my favorite ball as I feel like I can play a multitude of angles up the track, left of the track or right of the track and still get the ball to react the way I need it to. Strong cover and reads the mids for me, and responds to different hand positions as well it is a do all ball for me.

The Idol is back!!!!!!!!
If you loved the orginal Idol you’re going to love the Optimum Idol which features the orginal core from the Idol but it’s wrapped with AI technology with the same cover that’s on the Gem.
Optimum Idol is going to be a great benchmark option for medium to heavy oil lane conditions.
For me the Optimum Idol is a great step down from the Magic Gem but stronger than the Tour Dynam- x.
The Optimum Idol will be the first ball out of my bag to get a read of the lane conditions.

The Optimum Idol features the same MicroTrax solid and IKON core found in the OG, but now features the AI core technology. This bumps the differential up a couple of points and drops the RG as well. This provides a slightly earlier and more defined shape than the original. The Optimum for me fits right below my Summit and right above my Phaze II. The Idol is back! This time with new AI technology yet with the same benchmark ball reaction. What I loved about the original Idol and now with the Optimum Idol it's ability to hook and blend out almost every fresh pattern. The Idol is the first ball out the bag litmus test to see what the lanes are doing. The main difference I see between the new Idol versus the original is a cleaner and more overall reaction. The original would hook immediately upon lane impact where as the Optimum has more length and continuation down lane. I see myself using this ball a lot where the Phaze 2 may be to clean and I need something to pick up sooner yet still continue well through the pins.
What could make an Idol better, well that would be adding the AI technology. This ball rolls very similar to the original Idol for me but this ball just continues through the pins. I also feel like where there is a point that I need to get out of the original Idol when the lanes start to transition, that the Optimum Idol lets me move in a little and I am confident enough in the ball being able to come off the spot.
The optimum IDOL is everything the original IDOL was. A benchmark piece that should be in everyone’s bag. With the addition of the MicroTrax solid cover which is found on one of the most popular balls in the Roto Grip Line (GEM). The ball wants to pick up very early and pick up in heavier volumes of oil, while being smooth, continuous and predictable when it exits the pattern.

The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is probably one of the most anticipated bowling balls of the year. The Optimum Idol features the original Ikon™ block encapsulated with A.I. Core Technology and the MicroTrax™ Solid Coverstock. Bowlers that are looking for a solid, symmetrical, benchmark-type of bowling ball should definitely take a look at the Optimum Idol.
Personally, I haven’t had much success with the Idol Series. Out of all bowling balls from this series that I have thrown, the original Idol looked the best to me and because of that, I drilled my Optimum Idol with the same pin-down layout: 55 x 4 3/4 x 75. The idea for this Optimum Idol is to possibly be a “benchmark” ball that would be coming out of the bag first. However, find my Optimum Idol be very situational and pattern depended. I found this bowling ball to be a little too early for me as I struggled to keep it on-line. On the other hand, once I tried to move left, because it was so early, it wasn’t responsive enough down the lane.
Since the Optimum Idol was quite “forward” to me, I can see it working well on shorter oil patterns where bowlers have more back-end distance and need to find more control down the lane. I have tried my Optimum Idol on a standard “house” pattern and I think this bowling ball does a good job a blending the “wet/dry” conditions. Finally, I think changing the surface to 4000-grit or even adding a little bit of polish to this Optimum Idol makes this bowling stay on-line a bit easier, which to me, makes the ball a little bit more useful.

Tough patterns. Easy patterns. Issues with fresh over reacting backends. Struggles on transition. We say BRING IT ON! Between the original Ikon™ block encapsulated with A.I. Core Technology, and our MicroTrax™ Solid Coverstock wrapped around the outside, this beaut is definitely like using a cheat code on the lanes. And there is no doubt this combo of core and cover will increase the confidence and playability for bowlers of all skill levels on a variety of lane conditions.
My review:
The original Idol is one of those balls I passed on but wish I hadn’t, so when I heard this was coming out, I jumped on it! All I can say is WOW, so glad I got this piece. I place the Optimum in between my Eternity Pi and OG Eternity for when I still need a solid to chew through the oil, but not go too far down lane before making the turn. With my 5x4x2 layout this ball reads the mids like no other and the scores it has been putting up show it. What really surprised me was that I get the same reaction out of this ball on multiple lane panels. So far I have thrown it on Pro-Lane, SPL and HPL panels and I get the same consistent ball motion on all three without it over reacting or being lazy on any of them. The A.I. core’s presence truly shows its value on the “not so good”, aka: light hits, where my Zen Master would have left a flat 10, the Optimum really stirs the pins up and carries those shots.
I intentionally waited a few weeks after rolling this in a couple different leagues and houses before putting this review out there to see how the ball may have changed with some lane shine on it. I found that after about 20 games I did need to freshen up the surface with a light 2k pad, but after bringing it back down the ball wakes back up just like new.
I would say this ball matches up against my Zen Master with a little later reaction downlane (mainly due to a much more aggressive layout on my Master) and a higher carry percentage than the Master.
I would most definitely recommend this ball for any league or tournament bowler.

Whether you prefer a Pin Up or Pin Down layout, get ready to fall in love with the reliable and consistent motion this ball delivers to your arsenal. It served as the perfect ball up from my Tour Dynam-X, particularly when the pattern gets cliffed. Thanks to its Microtrax solid reactive coverstock, this ball maintains ample traction in the oil, while the Ikon A.I. Core ensures smooth and controllable movement off the friction. It responds well to lane shine, making transitions during longer blocks more intuitive. 'Comfort' perfectly encapsulates the essence of this ball, making it an ideal benchmark piece for your collection.

I loved the Idol. LOVED IT. I think the Optimum might be better. My OG Idol was amazing, but sometimes it just didn’t keep going enough. In comes the Optimum. The AI core tech they added did the trick. AI retains more energy and overall hook. Where the OG Idol might get too forward and struggle to get around the corner the Optimum stays on it’s axis longer and continues more through the 8-9! As a result I can use the Optimum much longer than I ever could with the OG! The Optimum Idol is already GOATED and is a must have!
Roto Grip’s Optimum Idol is a remake of the every so loved and missed Idol. It features MicroTrax Solid cover and the famous Ikon core with AI tech. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 3 and this is exactly how I drilled my first Idol back in the day and I was super excited for this one. When I first started to throw it, it reminded me of the original one. It gave me a clean motion through the fronts for a solid but made a nice aggressive motion in the back part of the lane. This ball will be very versatile for me as I will be able to use it on the fresh and as the second or third ball out of my bag depending on the pattern length and volume. If you loved the Idol then your going to want to run to pick up the Optimum Idol today!

The Optimum Idol is a very strong ball in the mid lane. You will need some decent head volume for this ball to thrive. This is a great transition ball for me when my strong Assym solids start to burn up.
Sam Cooper Roto Grip Amateur Staff. Layout 45x5.5x45. The new Roto Grip Optimum Idol is the return of the Ikon Core that was found in the original Idol. The twist is that the Ikon core is wrapped with the AI Technology to help the hitting power at the pins. The Optimum also has the original Micro-Trax Solid cover from the original. This proven benchmark combination is back with more power at the pins.
In my opinion comparison to the OG Idol. The Optimum Idol feels slightly cleaner and smoother (yes I know that usually is not the case). The OG for me was strong mid-lane roll but felt “quick” it may have been the layout that I had on the OG compared to the Optimum. Regardless, this ball will give you a great reaction for fresh conditions or even cliffed house patterns. I will say that on the higher friction surfaces that I bowl on I have let the cover lane shine but then I do have to scuff it with a 2000 pad to get that strong smooth reaction back. It is a strong bowling ball. When lane shined it is usable across a variety of conditions. If you are bowling on a lighter volume pattern or something with lots of friction. You may want to use the Optimum to kind of set the lanes up and then ball down to a phase two or something cleaner. The versatility of this ball is for sure to make it a staple in your league bag or tournament bag!

Smooth and packing a punch is the best way I can describe the new Roto Grip Optimum Idol. Like I state I have never owned any of the balls in the Idol line and boy am I mad at myself for not giving the Idol line a try. This ball is such a complete ball and should fit the eye for most people. It's long but not too long, it's angular but not too angular, and the Optimum Idol is as smooth as can be. This Idol reads the lanes beautifully and will give you every ready that you need to adjust or to ball down.
The Optimum Idol hits so ridiculously hard that I cannot even make a comparison. Most of the time you can say a ball hits like a truck or packs a punch, but this Optimum Idol hits the pocket it gives off a different sound and it’s so loud. The Optimum is going to be a benchmark ball for most or for some it will be a ball you start out with on house shot or games 2-5 in a longer game tournament. Like I stated the Optimum is so smooth and very predictable to be able to adjust or ball changes. This is going to be a cheater ball for many bowlers. Go get yours today if you want to score high.

Finally...the wrongs of the original Idol being discontinued have been righted! The original Idol solid was one of the best bowling balls that Roto Grip has ever released, and the introduction of the Optimum Idol brings the Idol line back to prominence. The addition of AI technology to the Ikon core creates a slightly stronger midlane motion – overall, I do find this Optimum Idol to be a tad bit earlier, smoother, and overall more motion than that original Idol. That means that the Optimum Idol is absolutely perfect for heavy to medium-heavier oil conditions. Once the lanes dry up, this ball will begin to hook too early...but, it isn't intended for those conditions anyways.
Another Idol…Another homerun! I almost always keep an Idol in my tournament bag. One of the first balls out of my bag when I need a strong, smooth, controlled piece. Best part is that I can generally stay in it for a few games before I have to get into my cleaner options. Really continues to go through the pins well while migrating deeper on the lane! Definitely recommend for the tournament bowler!

Pleasantly surprised by the motion I received from this ball. Worried my slower speed would slow the ball down too much and therefore not continue through the pins. Totally wrong on my end if there is some oil in the heads. I don’t believe that to be too surprising of a comment given lane surfaces and strength of bowling balls today.
The ball was left in box condition for initial use. I’m waiting to see how many games it takes before lane shine is present. Early use hasn’t shown any noticeable shine. Little tough to get the surface clean after using it in box condition. Might need to use Clean and Dull or a spinner to assist in the future.
Didn’t get past 15 at the arrows with use. With some polish that could be an option, but I’ll have to change balls in box condition once I start migrating further left. I’ll need something cleaner and responsive on the backend for my style.
Strong benchmark option for those in the market for that reaction. Believe this will be a ball that many styles can utilize with success. The Storm Products YouTube page has a great video showing the difference between the box surface versus shine. Link below. I might try some polish in the future or just drill a second one for polish.

The Optimum Idol has a low RG value of 2.47 which means it will rev up early and a high differential of 0.056, in which 0.060 is the max differential a ball can have.
The Optimum Idol is the first Roto Grip release that has the AI Core Technology. AI Core Technology lowers the RG and raises the differential that creates a quicker roll and more surface contact with the lane. In addition, the Optimum Idol also features the famous Ikon core that we have seen in all Idol releases.
As per the Microtrax Solid Reactive cover, you will see a combination of the optimum balance of midlane traction and responsiveness to friction thanks to the blend of nanoparticles throughout the coverstock. This formulation maintains its surface profile texture longer to ensure you get maximum performance while displacing oil at an above average rate compared to other coverstock materials on the market today.
I did a ball comparison to the original Roto Grip Idol and 900 Global Xponent at 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil. The layout chosen 55 x 4 ¾ x 40. 3000 Grit used for review.
In comparison to the Original Idol, The Optimum Idol is at least 3 boards stronger downlane and starts up a little quicker. As the Original Idol was good for was versatility within the ball surface where from the lowest to polish the Idol responds to what you need very well.
In comparison to the 900 Global Xponent, the Optimum Idol is a couple of boards stronger the Xponent which has a lower RG that’s fits just above an IQ tour solid.
As per the surface adjustments, the Optimum’s box surface is 2000 grit Abralon which is a good starter surface for a fresh oiled THS.
For me, I put polish on top of the 2000 surface that gives me a little more length and a little sharper on the backend.
In the bag, will be the Eternity Pi, Optimum Idol, Attention Star and Zen Gold Label

The remake of the original Idol is back with the Ikon weight block but now with A.I. Core Technology. With the success of the original Idol, hopes were high with the Optimum Idol and SPI knocked it out of the park. The Optimum Idol is now my go to Benchmark ball for all patterns. It is so smooth and so predictable; I can pretty much throw it on anything and get lined up. For me it is original Idol, just a little more in all parts of the lane. This will be another home run for the SPI brand.

The new Roto Grip Optimum Idol features the well-established Ikon core now wrapped in A.I. outer core material and the Microtrax Solid coverstock. I drilled my Idol 5x4x4.25 and it was honestly more ball than I was expecting. I did not care for the original idol because it was too clean and too forward; however, the Optimum Idol proved to be different. It is earlier and stronger off the backend of the pattern especially compared to something like that of an IQ Tour Edition. An IQ Tour to me is cleaner and more forward compared to the Optimum Idol. To put it in perspective, I would put the Optimum Idol between the Phaze 2 and Axiom Solid. I see the earlier shape like the Axiom, but I see a similar ball motion off the backend compared to the P2. Overall, I think the Optimum Idol is going to shine on a lot of different conditions and is easy to adjust with surface changes.
So far, I am not a big fan of the ball. With a low rev and low speed, the ball does not hook much.

The Roto Grip Optimum Idol features the same Micro Trax reactive coverstock and Ikon core as the hugely successful original Ido. However, the Optimum features the new A.I. core technology, which in my opinion makes this ball even better than the original Idol. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .056. I drilled my Optimum Idol the same as my original, 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The Optimum Idol has the same motion as the original…it starts up very early, controls the midlane and has an even arcing backend motion. This ball is perfect for medium/medium heavy oil patterns. The A.I. core creates even more pin action than the original. If you had the original and have been looking for a replacement, you won’t find anything closer than this. If you never had the Idol, don’t miss out on this one, you won’t be disappointed. This ball should be in every tournament bowler’s bag. Power, control, and versatility all in one!!!
For those that remember the glory days of the original Idol, it made a comeback in a big way! With a slightly lower RG and higher differential compared to the original, the Optimum Idol is a ball every bowler should have in their bag. I drilled mine at an average layout of 4.5"x 30 pin up between the bridge, which is my common layout for leagues and medium/heavy conditions. I tested it on a fresh 42ft house shot at my home center and was very impressed. The Optimum reads the fronts clean, very smooth and continuable mid lane and finishes strong through the pins. I find this ball to be very versatile and has that "benchmark" feel that bowlers will benefit on a variety of patterns. This ball will definitely be in my bag wherever I bowl. If you don't have an Optimum Idol, you are missing out! Be sure to stop by your local pro shop and drill one today!

This will be my benchmark ball. Out of the box I averaged 190 at league. Not too much hook, but it will find its way back to the pocket. It may be better if shined for house shots and dull for sport shots. Great ball.
Awesome ball. I got the ball drilled with the pin in a more aggressive position and she hooks crazy.

The newest addition to the HP3 line at Roto Grip is the Optimum Idol. You might remember the Idol series from the last several years. After the original Idol, there was the Pearl, Helios, Cosmos, and Pro. All were successful and designed to create different shares for us as players. The Optimum Idol features some nice upgrades with an updated core and coverstock. This symmetrical beast should be a staple in any competitive bowlers bag for the foreseeable future.
I’ve drilled one so far and think it’s a home run. It’s mapped out as 5 x 4 x 3.5. The pin is below my bridge with a decent shift of the CG. I also shined with a 4000 pad and water since our house shot tends to hook a decent amount. The Optimum Idol is strong with an RG of 2.47 and differential of .054. It flares a bunch, so don’t be afraid to drill it a little weaker because it has no problem picking up or reading the lane. I think it is a nice step down from the Gem, Absolute Power, or Harsh Reality. It also fits above balls like The Road and Lightning Blackout.
If you’re missing a strong symmetrical with a proven history of success, go drill an Optimum Idol!

BALL SPEED: 16MPH

AXIS TILT: 20
AXIS ROTATION: 50
LAYOUT: 60X5X65
The Optimum Idol features the iconic Ikon core paired with A.I. Technology and Microtrax Solid as its cover stock. All I can say is wow, I’ve been looking for a symmetric ball with a bigger cover that handles the fresh with ease but not over responding to friction. This ball for me is a ball that sits in the middle of my bag between the Reality, Attention Star. When the Reality is too much ball, I'm able to go to my Idol and keep control of the mid lane but with a smoother more controllable motion. I prefer my Idol to have 1000 or 2000 on it depending on where and what were bowling on. Overall this ball is fantastic when the lanes are a little tighter during the beginning of the match, this ball will fit many styles of players, if you’re bowling on your typical house pattern players with higher rev rates will love this ball when moving into the oil, lower rev players may lean more towards a gem or a Harsh Reality but if you’re looking for a ball down from those 2 this one is it!

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Ball Review!!
Layout
VLS-5.5x3.25x2
Dual Angle-40x5.5x30
The optimum idol will be a great addition to roto grip hp3 lineup.
The optimum idol will fit in between my gem and tour dynam-x.
The optimum idol will be my benchmark ball for a variety of oil patterns. The optimum idol will be used on fresh/transition if the gem is too early or if I need more continuation. The optimum idol reminds me of the original idol but it reads the midlane a little more and has more continuation. I personally have always loved the idol series and this ball will definitely go with me to every tournament.

The new Optimum Idol continues the Idol line with the core wrapped in AI Core Tech and with the micro track solid cover. Compared to the Idol I've found the Opitmum idol to be earlier on the lane and more shape down lane. I used the same layout on both balls my pap is 4 3/4 right and 3/4 down. The layout i used was 45x4x30 This is a great bench mark ball for anyone to add to there bag.

The new symmetrical solid in the Roto Grip HP3 line is the Optimum Idol. I drilled mine with my favorite drilling 4.25 x 4 x 2 pin up and added Storm Step 2 to the cover. The Optimum is the re release of the original Idol. Which is one the most successful RG balls of all time. For me the Optimum is very close the original Idol, it may be a little earlier due to the newer coverstock. Same great ball reaction though, a little earlier motion and smooth arcing reaction down lane. It is great ball for all the wet dry house shots that we
see so much in todays patterns. I also like using the Optimum on sport to control the pocket on those flatter sport patterns. As the optimum doesn't get off line a lot and is very controllable ball motion. 2 handers love the Optimum because of the control with all their speed and revs. But the down and in players also can use it with success especially when playing the track area. Thank You Schlem for bringing back the IDOL!

The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is a little bit of a cleaner reincarnation of the OG Magenta Idol. I find it still provides excellent mid lane read like the OG, but really likes to continue a lot more down lane for me. This ball fits perfectly right in the middle of the bag, and provides and excellent benchmark ball reaction. Get yours today and OWN IT!!

Tough patterns. Easy patterns. Issues with fresh over reacting backends. Struggles on transition. We say BRING IT ON! Between the original Ikon™ block encapsulated with A.I. Core Technology, and our MicroTrax™ Solid Coverstock wrapped around the outside, this beauty is definitely like using a cheat code on the lanes. And there is no doubt this combo of core and cover will increase the confidence and playability for bowlers of all skill levels on a variety of lane conditions.
If the OG Idol had a child, the Optimum Idol is it. I had 4 OGs drilled various ways and none compare to the carry I get from the OI. I say the latest technology has elevated this to next level in my arsenal. It covers a broader range of conditions without any cover changes of which I prefer not to do.
As of this review I have well of 35+ games from league to tournament play because of its VERSATILITY and PREDICTABILITY. I have been able to play the entire lane up to my capabilities on the fresh THS and broken down sport patterns in tournament environments.
Drilled with my go to benchmark pin up 5 1/4 x 1 1/2 layout, this ball stays in my bag because of the confidence it gives me with pin carry with my now lower rev-rate. Light pin hits have increased as well. Compared to other balls in my bag, the is just a pinch earlier than my Sublime and I would attribute that to the quick rolling Ikon core. When my Optimum Idol starts picking up too early, I have had success balling down to either my Xponent (cleaner) or Xponent Pearl (cleaner with a quicker response).
I recommend the for bowlers with above average ball speed and rev rate looking for a VERSATILE hooking ball for THS heavy to medium patterns. For a lower/medium rev late player wanting a stronger ball for league purposes I would apply some polish or 4k finish which will handle plenty of oil, but make a stronger move on the back end.

The original Idol was a super popular ball after its release. I didn’t throw the original Idol because I used a Phase II and they are very close in core numbers. With the release of the Optimum Idol the Ikon core has been upgraded with the A.I. technology to give bowlers a newer version of the Idol ball motion for today's lane conditions. This ball also features the same Micro Trax cover found on the Gem.
By having a combined stronger core and cover combination, in a symmetrical ball, I drilled it with a slightly weaker layout to give the ball some length and have less flare because of the strong Micro Trax cover. This ball is very smooth through the oil on the house shot and a little too slow and forward when it reaches the end of the pattern for my eyes. For my rev rate category sometimes the combination of strong core and cover makes the balls too slow on the house conditions. I had the same issues when trying to use the Roto Grip TNT. If I used too much surface the ball was even slower and if I let it shine up it gave the ball an under over type of reaction.
Because of the ball motion of the Optimum Idol, I am more comfortable using the Storm Summit when I need to use a stronger symmetrical piece in my league and tournament arsenal.

I am higher speed, rev challenged 220-250ish, medium tilt and rotation, and higher track player. I drilled my Roto Grip Optimum Idol 35 x 4.75x 25 using the dual angle. My axis point is 4 7/16 over and 7/8 up.The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is a heavy rolling benchmark ball to my arsenal it revs up early but more controlled shape down-lane. I generally use this ball game 1 of league on medium to high oil volume. The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is a good piece to add to anyone’s arsenal.
First tournament with the idol and he won first place. Qualified for Jr Gold! So yes he was mighty pleased with the oltimum idol
