Storm Parallax Effect Review

The Parallax Effect features the Aeroflo Core that has a RG of 2.52, differential of 0.054 and a PSA of 0.019 which is wrapped around the all new Traction X7 Pearl cover. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and just after the first couple shots with this ball, I knew it was going to be a huge hit. The colors of this ball remind me of a Sure Lock from a few years ago but it is a lot stronger on the backend than one. It is a lot cleaner and doesn’t rev up as quick as the original Parallax. The motion of this ball is one of a kind and it has great appeal to it. If you need something that is going to be stronger on the backend and can handle multiple patterns, this Parallax Effect is going to be the ball you want.

Seeing how I do like the original Parallax I was excited to drill out the new Parallax Effect. I drilled the Parallax Effect using the Dual Angle method and used the same angles and pin-PAP distance as the original. As imagined both balls are pretty clean through the front part of the lane and have a nice sharp finish. I have found the Effect to be a little cleaner and a little stronger at the end than the original. I have also found that the Effect has better recovery on similar patterns. I have used the Parallax Effect on both fresh and burn and have had consistent reaction on both. I consider myself a tweener and a bit of a spinner. The drilling layout I have use on both the Parallax and Parallax Effect is 35x4x30

The Pearl TractionX7 cover is surprisingly stronger than the original Parallax. I was able to throw it on 4 different oil patterns ranging from 39’ to 43’ feet in length with the factory 1500-grit Polished finish, 2000 and 4000 grit finishes. I had to keep it closer to the oil line/middle part of the lane to generate enough skid and hold on all the patterns. As the patterns broke down and forced me left, the better this ball performed. The Aeroflo core didn’t rev up as fast as the Axiom, but tumbled more than the Axiom, which made it go a little more forward off the end of the pattern and through the pins. Where my Axiom finished over the 8 pin, this ball went straighter back splitting the 8-9 and tripped a lot of 4 pins. It worked better if I kept my angles closed a bit more rather than trying to cover the whole lane or swinging it to the ditch. I can see this ball working really well on challenge/sport shots or “cliffed” lanes because it doesn’t boomerang on the backend. Really liked oil for me more then any shiny pearl I can remember. I was shocked how strong it actually is for me. Definitely can go farther left with it and get it to go threw the pins better then any asymmetrical ball in my bag. Gives me a much different option in the bag. Storm again comes threw with not just making a new ball but making a new ball that gives a new reaction and another reaction that strikes a lot!

The Parallax Effect is much better than its predecessor. The first Parallax wasn't my favorite. It seemed to be hit or miss on patterns and wasn't all that special on house. The Parallax Effect is the ball that the first Parallax should have been. It has the same core with a pearl cover and out works the first ball by a mile. Usually with Pearl asyms we get incredibly weak covers on huge cores. The cover on the Effect feels much stronger than what we're used to seeing from Storm. Don't expect this ball to labor in the oil. When throwing this ball it seemed to always want to overhook which isn't a bad thing compared to some pearls that want to wiggle off in the oil. Compared to the Parallax, the Effect is stronger and has more shape overall which will allow you to not only use it earlier but use it on a variety of oil patterns.

Lets Just Talk About The New Storm Parallax Effect, this ball exceeded my expectations right away with just how different it rolls from your normal high-end Pearl Asym Balls. The Parallax Effect was very clean through the front but it picked up in the mids very strong unlike many other Pearl Asym Balls i have thrown. Once it got going the backend this ball created was strong and pronounced, the pins spared no chance, pins stayed low and strikes were high. In comparison to my Roto Grip UC2 with similar Pin Up layouts, the parallax was a easy 8-10 Boards Stronger for me, The UC2 is Extremely Clean for me and is better suited for medium conditions where the Parallax just chews through the oil. It has been a while since I had used this layout on a ball. This pin up layout allows the ball to get through the heads with ease and to be strong down lane. Out of the box, I don’t think this layout and cover matched up. I hit the cover with an older 2000 pad and it brought the ball to life. Now the ball reads the mid lane a bit more and is still strong down lane. The Parallax Effect is stronger off the spot than my pin up, OG, Parallax. I do like the motion of my pin down Parallax more than this one, though. I just feel like I really have to throw it away from the pocket to keep it right of the head pin, even with the surface. I really think this ball is an upgrade on all fronts from the Parallax, it even needs an upgrade in oil to show its true colors! Hey everyone, I’m back with another ball review, and this time it’s for the Storm Incite!. In 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the TractionX7 Pearl Reactive Coverstock and comes 1500-grit polished with an RG of 2.52, Diff of .054, and a PSA of .019 with an incredible Orange Coffee Cake smell. This ball was drilled 4x4x2 I wish that I had thrown the original Parallax to give a more in-depth comparison between the balls with all things being equal, but I didn’t so I will treat this review like a new brand ball. So first thoughts seeing the ball go down the lane was it tricked my eye a bit because of the colors of the pour if you will. I don’t mind multi-colored balls just every once in a while one makes my eyes have a hard time reading it. I had the same “issue” with the original Phaze. So let’s move on to what I know and what I can share. As a reminder, I am more up the back of the ball than other staffers so please remember this review is about a ball I threw and how I saw it. Now let’s get into it. When I first tested this ball at a center that puts out a higher volume I was not able to get the ball to shape the way I would like and so because of my roll I differently need some help downlane to get the ball to come off the pattern the right way. I was excited for this release because though I liked the strong move the Parallax made, it was a bit early for me out of the box. I expected the shiny surface to give me more length but it was very mid-laney. The new traction x7 pearl cover gives you more length. I tested the Parallax effect on a very cliffed house-shot which tends to transition very quickly. I went to it in the second game of league when I had trouble with the ball I was throwing over-reading the friction. I had expected the Effect to come off the dry too hard as well but figured if I could create enough angle through the front I'd be okay. I made a miss in on my first shot and the ball slid through the front and struck. I was surprised not only with the easy length but that the ball wasn't sideways off the friction. By accident I discovered exactly the line I needed to be playing. The Effect reminds me a bit of the Intense Fire. While it's a clean ball that stores energy well, it still has a bit of a rounder shape off the friction. This is very helpful when fighting alot of friction. The ball is strong enough to cover alot of boards without creating catastrophic leaves when you make small misses. I've really enjoyed the ball the last couple of games in league. I have found it to be a bit stronger when trying to play closer to the friction on fresh lanes so it will work well for low to medium rev players in that spot.

The Parallax changed the game when it was released last year - its Traxion X7 Hybrid Reactive cover combined elements of R2S, NRG, SPEC, and more to create a ball that was much more a master of control than you'd expect. The Parallax Effect is here now, and it takes this to the next level! Traxion X7 Pearl is the cover this time, wrapped around the same Aeroflo core (2.52 RG, 0.054 fiff, 0.019 int diff). Seeing this ball go down the lane it's unmistakably a Parallax (the shapes look quite familiar), but the Parallax Effect is a bit more responsive downlane and actually gets into the roll phase sooner than the original. The Parallax Effect features the Aeroflo core found in the original Parallax but is now wrapped in traction X7 pearl. This direct quote from Storm explains the design intent behind Aeroflo. “The flip block coupled at the bottom ensures high total differential, but without the crucial cuts on the Y-axis, the intermediate differential would be just 0.007! The strategically positioned depressions on the Z-axis 6 3/4” from the pin mimic the effect of an extra hole in a similar space and keeps the intermediate differential at a more workable amount. Having a precise ratio of intermediate to total differential makes drilling less sensitive for drillers and provides a truer roll for bowlers.” What this boils down to is a core that mimics a ball with a weight hole while still legal within today’s rules! I find the Parallax Effect to be a fantastic option after my Honey Badger Intensity or Incite start to bail downlane due to the friction being created but the pattern isn’t defined enough for my UC2. When compared to the original Parallax, the Effect feels nothing like it. It’s much cleaner, sharper and faster downlane. Both Parallax’s would make a fantastic 1-2 league punch! The newest addition to the Premier line at Storm is the Parallax Effect and wow, it’s impressive. After having success with the original Parallax, I was excited to see the Parallax Effect being released to see how it compares with the original one. With an RG of 2.52, a differential of .054, and a pearl coverstock, I had a strong feeling the Effect was going to be cleaner and more responsive than the first Parallax. I’ve drilled one Effect so far and really like it. I mapped it out as 5 x 4.5 x 75. This puts the pin above my bridge and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb. I’ve noticed this is a perfect compliment to the Proton Physix, Phaze II, and Rubicon. Once those balls start to run out of gas, the Effect is much cleaner and has a quicker response time. I haven’t changed the surface at all but the Effect has quickly become a ball I use when I need to open my angles and need something quicker response time. If you need a pearl, asymmetrical ball that compliments the bigger asymmetrical balls and changes direction in a quick but controllable way, the Parallax Effect should be the next ball you drill! #StormNation

After throwing the new parallax effect it took that line to the next level. For a big shinny asymmetric ball this ball get through really smooth and still has bang off the spot. This is going to be one of my favorite pieces in my bag, where i could throw it on fresh or move farther left and throw it when the lanes break down. This ball is very versatile so if you're in the market for a big shinny asym this is the ball for you. Get to your local pro shop and pick up this ball and you wont be disappointed.

I drilled up an PARALLAX EFFECT with one of my favorite drillings for big pearl assyms and that is 50 x 4.5 x 35. I threw it mainly box finish with a lite glazing over with a 3000 pad. I was not a big fan of the original PARALLAX. It set rolled forward very quickly for me and if I tried to use it on longer patterns, it didn't make the corner. Just not a good look for me when other great Storm/Roto releases were sitting there in the bag. The EFFECT is a totally different look for me. More motion at the end like a typical Utah pearl. When my RUBICON or PROTON start to stand up and stop, the EFFECT just kicks in to high gear to compliment them.

The Parallax Effect is much better. For me the OG either wanted to hook when I wanted to go straight or flat 10 when I wanted to hook it. The Effect is clean enough to solve both of those problems. It will let me get straighter and it bags pretty hard off the dry. If you thought the Parallax was almost amazing, the Effect is the ball for you!

I had been out of bowling for quite sometime. I used to throw a storm thunder flash regularly and average 175-180. Joining a league without a ball I purchased a black widow from hammer which is a great ball. But i was average 155-160. I wanted a new ball from storm but did quite a bit of homework before buying one. The Parralax Effect had come out less then 10 days before I bought it. Boy am I glad I waited and shopped around and bought it. This ball hits very hard on the back end entering the pocket and feels great in my hand. Averaging 180-185 since it was drilled shot 590 series in league first time using it.

Again, as I have said in serval reviews, I have a hard time matching up with asymmetrical balls. I have now practiced with this ball and rolled it with some other pearl balls that I have in my bag and this one is a keeper. I drilled this with my normal layout 55 x 4 x 30 (4 x 5 ½ x 1 close to those numbers) which puts the pin kicked out t to the right of my ring finger and the PSA about 1-2 inches away from my thumb. I really like how smooth this ball is and it is a bit cleaner down lane without being too sharp of the spot yet picks up well and has good continuation through the pins. This is a stronger pearl where I can move in which is good. I can create some shape when a few of my other pearl balls will not get around the corner or will burn up. I only have one other pearl asymmetrical ball right now which is a lot cleaner down lane. I like that the parallax effect is a bit earlier and smoother without losing energy. I took a little while and some practice but this one is a keeper for me!

The Storm Parallax Effect is the pearl cover in the growing Parallax family. The TractionX7 combines qualities from some of Storm’s best covers into one new aggressive and durable cover. I went with my a 45x4.25x35 layout. I felt like my original Parallax, though smooth, was still a bit more sideways than I hoped for. So, to allow the pearl cover of the Parallax Effect to go a little more forward, I opted for a slightly heavier rolling layout. The bottom line is I have an asymmetrical ball I’m able to stay a little further right with and not have to worry about it sparking off the friction. I find asymmetrical pearls tend to give me an over/under reaction on a house shot and I generally end up putting them back in the bag within the first game. Based on my initial read of the ball, I believe the Parallax Effect will allow me to control the pattern and still get that strong asymmetrical striking power we all love. The Parallax Effect takes the same Aeroflo asymmetric core found in the original Parallax and wraps it in the new pearl version of the Traction X7 coverstock. This ball does not disappoint when it comes to backend motion. But there is much more to this ball. With the pearl cover it is no surprise that this ball clears the heads so well, but the traction in the midlane and on the backend is very impressive. Don’t let the pearl coverstock fool you, this ball needs and thrives on oily conditions. This ball allows you to move in to the puddle in the middle of your typical house shot and throw it to the right and watch it do its thing as it roars back to the pocket. This ball is a must for tournament players on tighter conditions when you need to create some down lane motion.

Parallax Effect While they share a core, the Parallax and the Parallax Effect could not be more different! This new TX7 cover on the Parallax Effect makes all the difference. The original Parallax was very heavy rolling and was great for what there was a good amount of oil in the front part of the lane, but when it was time to move in or when the fronts started to dry up it lost its magic. That’s where the Parallax Effect shines! I drilled my Parallax Effect 50x4.5x30. I instantly knew this ball was a totally different beast from the original. The Effect goes through the front part of the lane so much easier, but still maintains is “stickiness” that I would expect out of that type of cover. I think the Parallax Effect fits very well in between the Parallax and the Axiom Pearl.

I tested this ball on 44 feet typical house pattern with a lot of down lane transition. I was able to stand right of center and swing the ball to the five board and stand left of the 25 board while rolling the Parallax Effect to the 10 board without losing any ball performance and carrying power. Storm Parallax Effect: Cover: TractionX7 Pearl Reactive Core: Aerflo core Finish: 1500 grit Polished Layout: 60 x 6 x 60 What Did I See: Know that I experienced a TON of over/under with the first Parallax, I consulted with Bret Stabley @ Bowlers' Supply and we decided on a 6 inch P2P with a weaker angle for the backend to combat that. Upon suing on lanes that were bowled on most of the ball, the Parallax Effect was super good, and roll very similar to my Axiom Pearl with a 5 inch P2P. What the main difference I saw was the overall length off the end of the pattern, where the Parallax would either hook quickly, or skate all the way to the pins and the motion was a tad later then the Axiom Pearl. Smoother through the pin deck and more noticeable carry also. On newer HPL with a good amount of head oil and less of a cliff at the back end of the pattern and also using the Fire and Ice conditioners, I changed the surface to 5000 ab and the Effect blended the pattern more then the original Parallax where I could get no reaction because the Parallax would just hydroplane on the front of the pattern and never got a chance to change directions or "dig in" the conditioner and be more reliable. The Parallax Effect was able to slow down enough in the front part of the lane to have change of the direction off of the pattern. The more the lineage on the lanes, the better the Parallax Effect performed. I would not use it as a primary ball, but would use in situations where its on later into a block of games or where the left side of the pattern is asymmetric like some sport patterns are becoming. It gets through the fronts no problem like a typical pearl ball, but what sets this ball apart for me is the mid lane reaction. THS like to puddle up in the middle part of the lane as the night goes on and make most pearl balls will start to carry down, this does not happen with the Parallax Effect. It will still pick up in middle and continue all the way through the pins. For me, this is a similar ball to the Axiom Pearl, but stronger in the mid-lane. This ball will be a staple in my bag for upcoming tournaments.

Layout: 50 x 4 3/4 x 40 The first Parallax ended being a weird one for me – it was a touch too early and smooth for the house conditions that I normally bowl on. The Effect certainly fixed any issues I had with the first rendition, as it is much stronger in the back part of the lane. The Parallax Effect does still have a decent bit of midlane traction, but the energy it saves for the backend is impressive. It fills an important spot in the Storm lineup, also – not as early as the Proton Physix or Incite, but more midlane and more overall motion than the Trend, Phaze III, or Axiom Pearl. This ball is a great fit on a medium to medium heavy house shot.

With the original it was to be similar and replace the Physix in the line. After rolling it for a few weeks I could see that it was earlier than the Physix and slower off the dry. The Parallax needed a lot of downlane friction for me to get it to the pocket consistently. Because I have a lower rev rate I like to see a dramatic increase in downlane motion to be comfortable. After seeing a teammate roll the Parallax Effect during league I noticed that this ball was early but quicker off the spot than the original. So I decided to give it a whirl. I am glad that I did. This ball for me fits below the RST X-1 and Axiom Pearl but is overall stronger than the Nuclear Cell. The pearl cover/ core combination, for me, is not as strong (earlier) as the Axiom Pearl but is sharper off the dry. Some pearl covers for me have to be adjusted with a 2000 abralon pad to eliminate the over/under downlane reaction but with the Parallax Effect the strong core and cover there was not a lot of over/under with the out of box finish. Introducing the brand newest addition to the Premier line the Storm Parallax Effect! This ball features the Traction X7 Pearl Reactive Coverstock wrapped around the the Aeroflo Core which is previously seen in the original Parallax! This is a motion I have been looking for, for a long time now. It goes a bit longer for me and is more angular on the back end. My first time throwing this ball out of the box I proceeded to throw 23 of 24 strikes the first two games (264-300-208) (772) and, shooting 300 the 2nd game with it. This ball is a must in your bag and it doesn't disappoint and, definitely made its place into my bag the very first time I threw it.

Storm Parallax Effect Rg. 2.52 Diff. .054 Int. .019 Layout 5 ¾ x 4 x 2. I used my normal Asymmetrical Layout on the Parallax Effect. I didn’t have the Parallax so I compared it to the Storm Incite. In comparison the Parallax Effect and Incite are very similar. The biggest difference between the two is the Parallax comes off the spot harder than the Incite when I am bowling on more front oil. The balls are similar and because I polished the Incite, but the incite at box finish would be earlier. The Parallax Effect is a ball I use on longer patterns with low volume when the lanes are transitioning. The cover is still clean and with a cleaner layout (longer pin to pap) I am able to see great mid lane read and continuation for my ball roll. I drilled into the Aeroflo Core looking for a consistent midlane read and a sharp turn off the pattern. From the first shot, this core reacted pleasantly stronger than expected. Early on, I had to move inside (looking 12-14) to give this core the space and time it needed to make its move. I liked how this core rev’d up moderately for my style and, being a higher speed/lower rev player, the Aeroflo Core provided a smooth and convincing look in the mid-lane. Because of its stable and balanced mid-lane attributes, this core retains a good amount of energy off the pattern and has a tenacious roll through the pins. This core is the better of two worlds, continuous and relentless! The TractionX7 Pearl cover is very strong for a pearl and it excelled for me as the night went on. All night it cleared the heads well and I especially liked how the TractionX7 handled the transition. This cover gripped strongly without being overbearing through the wet/dry conditions and allowed me to use the friction down lane to my advantage. For my higher speed and lower rev game, the 1500 grit polished finish worked quite well overall, but when I lightly scuffed the shiny surface with 4000 grit the TractionX7 really came alive for me. I saw that crisp, clean motion I have come to count on. In closing, the Storm Parallax Effect is a great combination of core and cover and has its place in the Storm Premier line. This strong and effective ball will score quite well for the more advanced player who rolls on multiple THS’s and challenge/sport conditions. The Storm Parallax Effect core yields a higher RG than what you typically see with asymmetrical bowling balls. This Aeroflo Core combined with a pretty versatile TractionX7 coverstock results in a quite unique motion that is a bit different for a strong asymmetric bowling ball. I used a simple pin up layout on my Parallax Effect: 60 x 5 x 30. After throwing this ball on several different lane patterns, I can tell that this ball is quite angular down the lane, which is somewhat unusual to see from a strong asymmetrical bowling ball. The coverstock on the Parallax Effect seems to be very clean as I had no problem getting this ball through the oil pattern even on older lane surfaces. For slicker/newer lane surfaces, I felt that the Parallax Effect was a little to clean – even after putting a little bit more surface on the bowling ball. I can see myself using the Parallax Effect on some longer patterns where I would need some help from the bowling ball down the lane. This bowling ball also allows for more open launch angles as it has so much backend motion, which may be useful for some medium oil patterns where steeper launch angles are required.

In all honesty I like the original Parallax up until it got over 30 games on it and then I struggled with it quite a bit. I was only able to use it very seldom on specific conditions. Knowing this I decided to let the Effect rack up some games before making this review. I had quite the opposite reaction to this ball than the OG Parallax. I wasn’t so sure about it in the beginning but after about 8-10 games it really started to “take shape” pun totally intended. It reads the mid-lane much better than the OG Parallax. I have mostly used the Effect on a house shot but I believe it is going to have a spot in my tournament bag next to my Zen. I bowl on a heavier volume house shot pattern so I believe it has given me a good idea of what it will do on sport shots.

Wow! That was my first initial thought with this ball. As a shop operator I feel that the Parallax balls got overlooked. The Parallax Effect is a sleeper ball in my opinion. One of those balls that didn’t get looked at and unfortunately not many have seen how good it is. With the stronger Traction X7 cover and middle of the road RG at 2.52, this ball will surprise you with length and change of direction. A super good ball for those looking for a stronger Assym with distance and kick down-lane. In my opinion this one is cleaner than the 900 Global Altered Reality and a nice complement to each other. If you’re looking for an assym ball for Medium to Heavy oil, don’t pass this ball up. It will be a great addition to many bowlers bags!
