Storm Phaze 2 Pearl Review
The pearl version of Storm's legendary benchmark finally arrives. More length, sharper backend at $174.95. Video reviews inside.
Hi, my name is Malia Briggs, Storm Junior staffer, and today I'm doing a ball review on the most requested Storm bowling ball, the phase 2 pearl version. It has a TX25 pearl cover stock with that power edge finish. I just got finished with school, changed my outfit, put my hair in a ponytail. Can't wait to get into this fall review. [Music]
Okay, everyone knows that the phase 2 is the goat and the phase 2 pearl. Everything is the same. It has the same core. It has the same colors. The only difference is that is a pearl version and it has that power edge finish. All right, I'm going to stand on board 20 first shot here. Oo, sneaked up there. All right, let's try another one here and see how it looks.
Can't open her. Okay, I'm two for two. And since the phase 2 pearl is a storm ball, it has a scent. It smells like frosted cinnamon roll. So, it's pretty unique scent. It smells pretty good in my opinion. All right, let's see if I can't get a turkey here. Oh, that's good. I knew that was good off my hand.
All right, looks pretty good. Let's keep it going here. Oh yeah. >> Okay. This is a Thursday, so the senior citizens just got done bowling league. My path was on this Paris, so I thought it'd be more messed up, but it looks pretty good so far. So,
okay, let's another good shot here. Oh yeah, get that tent out of there. This is looking pretty good. I am going to compare the phase 2 pearl to the original phase 2 solid. So stay tuned for that. All right, let's just keep it going here.
Oh, trip the four. Hey, I noticed another difference. The lettering, the engraving is actually has a little sparkle in it. Okay, let's keep it going here. Oh yeah. >> Well, this ball is looking money. This
is I understand why the phase two is a goat. That little side. There we go. Okay. Hey, the senior league on Thursdays has four people per lane, so it's eight per pair and they bowl three games. So, there has been some transition, but um this ball is looking really good. I'm going to throw two more here with the pearl. I'm going to switch to the solid and see how it
compares. Oh, okay. That really hurt. I don't know how many I had in a row. I have to look back at the videos. I just have it on practice mode. But that's donate. It kills. All right, one last shot here and then
we'll switch to my face two solid. I got it inside the oil. Got through the oil. Okay, I'm going to switch out of my face to pearl here. Base eights. All my balls feel the same. Quick. Okay, so I'm going to stand on board 20 just like I did with the pearl version. I'm expecting the solid to hook
a little more early. We'll see here. Okay, board 20. Oh, that was nice, too. All right, so another shot here.
I got the inside push. It sat there. All right. All right. Well, it's kind of hard to see the difference in two balls. So, let's roll a couple more here. Oh, yeah. Okay. So, a couple more shots here.
Oh yeah. Okay, one more shot here. Let's try to get this one further out and see what it does when it hits the friction. Yeah, let's up a little early. Okay, you guys saw when I got it out there to the friction, the phase two one hook sooner, the solid version. I'm going to switch back to the pearl. We're
going to get left and see how it looks. So, I'm going to stand on board probably 25, slow down by ball of speed, and we'll see how it looks. Oh, get the seven out of there. Okay, that was a pretty good ball. So, another good one here.
Man, I wrapped 10 stones. That came off my hand so nicely and it shapes so good to the pocket. So far, it's really coming back here from 425. Looks like a good ball. Oh, I guess only the light mixers carry. I bowl here a lot and it seems like the light mixer always carries in this house. I don't know if it's just
characteristics or I'm going to stand on board 25 here. Point proven. Okay, two more here with the phase two pearl. I'm going to get right with my feet. Uh let's see if we can't get one to go flush. Got a half pocket, a couple light mixers, and a 10 pin. Let's see if this one can't be perfect.
light mixer. Okay, you can see on that last one how far the ball got down lane and still had enough energy to come back and get that light mixer strike. Last one here. Standing left and I'll get right. All right, let's make this last one good. Okay, there's a lot of friction on the outside in this house on the house shot.
We'll see how this ball does when I get right. I'm going to start out on 15. Maybe the pro version will help me get down the lane a little longer, but we'll see. All right, 15 here. my feet. It's from the inside of my left foot then. Ah, okay. I think I can get this to work. I got that ball inside a little bit and it got it kind of stayed there a little bit. So, we'll see if I can this one
further out. Okay, that's what I was afraid of. I got it out, but I hit that friction. It just went left. All right, maybe I'll try Ward 17 here. We'll see how it looks.
Okay. Okay. This weekend I'm bowling in the USBC Pennsylvania Queens. I wish I could bring this ball along. This ball is looking so good. Definitely going to go into my tournament bag. Two more shots here. Standing right, then I'll do a wrap up. Okay, I'm going stay on 17. Okay, last shot here. I'm going to do
something different. I'm going to stand on board 30 and get get way left. We'll see how it looks. Probably going to have to slow down the ball speed. We're asking for a miracle here. All right, board 30 with my feet. Oh man. >> Okay, wrap up on the phase two symmetrical pearl. This ball looked
great. I mean, the phase two is the goat, and I think Storm did a good job keeping the colors the same uh and the pearl as they did with the solid. I really do think that color plays a role in how the ball rolls. And if you guys know, I keep a phase 2 solid in my tournament bag every single tournament. So, this is going to be a new addition into the bag every single tournament. If you guys been watching throughout this whole video, what are you doing? Like and subscribe. I see you guys in the next one. Thanks for watching. Bye.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Storm Phaze 2 Pearl delivers a controlled, predictable ball motion that positions it as a solid mid-range option in the reactive pearl category. On fresh house shot conditions, the ball exhibited a clean, continuous hook shape with minimal early backend aggression—characteristics that independent reviewers compared favorably to the original Phaze II but noted as more controlled than stronger coverstock options like the Rockstar Anvil and Steel Forge. The upgraded TX-25 coverstock proved noticeably more consistent than previous pearl iterations, eliminating the unpredictability issues observed in earlier Phaze releases. Testing showed the ball maintained line effectively when moved to different boards, with bowlers able to transition from the 25-board to the 20-board without dramatic reaction changes, suggesting excellent readability across oil patterns.
The symmetric core (approximately 48-50 RG differential) performed as expected for a medium-heavy oil application, with the ball showing reliable recovery without the sharp backend snap of higher differential pieces. Reviewers noted the Phaze 2 Pearl sits notably cleaner than aggressive covers but hooks more than the original Phaze II, making it function as an effective bridge between entry-level and premium reactive pieces. Speed adjustments yielded predictable results—the ball remained controllable even when thrown slower, without becoming unruly or over/under-reactive. On the test pattern, the ball’s motion read as “rolly” rather than angular, providing bowlers with clear feedback about line selection and adjustments.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Phaze 2 Pearl is ideally suited for competitive and serious bowlers seeking a dependable mid-bag piece that reads lane transitions clearly without excessive early motion. This ball works best for bowlers transitioning from entry-level reactive equipment (like the Ion Max or Equinox solid) who need a step up in coverstock strength but aren’t ready for aggressive, high-differential pieces. The predictable, continuous roll makes it an excellent choice for bowlers who value consistency and control over dramatic backend reaction, particularly those who appreciate having multiple drilling options within a single piece.
Bowlers on medium-heavy oil conditions will find this ball performs as intended, and its drillability across various layouts makes it valuable for different release styles and rev rates. This is not a specialty ball or a headline performer, but rather the reliable workhorse that serious players often overlook—a ball that delivers when called upon and doesn’t require extensive surface adjustments to perform effectively in its intended conditions.

Bowlers frequently mention:
The long-awaited Storm Phaze II Pearl delivers exactly what fans of the original Phaze II were hoping for—a true companion piece that preserves the core motion while adding extra length and pop downlane. Built with the TX-25 Pearl coverstock wrapped around the iconic Velocity Core, this ball provides a familiar read with a noticeably cleaner footprint through the front part of the lane. I drilled mine 4 × 2, matching the layout on my fresh Phaze II, and the relationship between the two is immediately clear. The motion is very similar, but the Phaze II Pearl gets through the midlane with less effort and responds with a sharper, more dynamic move at the breakpoint. Where the Phaze II digs in earlier and rolls heavier, the Pearl version retains that signature control while offering a more angular finish. For bowlers who love the Phaze II—and there are many—this pairing creates an ideal 1–2 punch. Start with the benchmark Phaze II, then transition seamlessly into the Phaze II Pearl as the fronts go and you need added length and recovery without losing the shape you trust. An excellent evolution of a fan favorite, and one that will fit naturally into a wide range of arsenals.
The Storm Phaze 2 Pearl takes the trusted Velocity core from the original Phaze II and wraps it in a new pearlized TX-25 Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished with a polished 1500-grit factory shine. That combo gives you a cleaner look through the front part of the lane than the solid Phaze II, but with that same strong, continuous core motion that made the original so popular. Compared to the Phaze II solid, the Pearl version pushes a few feet further before making its move and is quicker off the spot, giving you more shape and angle when the mids start to go away. Compared to the Roto Grip Rockstar Amped, the Phaze 2 Pearl is smoother in the midlane and not as sharp off friction, offering a more rounded and controllable motion while still providing plenty of pop downlane. For nearly 10 years, the premier choice for symmetric performance on medium to heavy oil has undoubtedly been the Phaze II. The Phaze II Pearl broadens the spectrum of performance within the Master line by bridging the gap between the original Phaze II Solid and !Q Tour series. Fragrance: Frosted Cinnamon Roll Release Date: 11/28/25.” The Phaze line and I over the past five releases haven't really seen eye to eye. I threw the Phaze lll after joining the team and instantly fell in love with that ball. So naturally when the Phaze 4 was released I was very eager to get holes in it and see it go do the lane. Shortly after this ball was released the USBC added this and other balls to the “Storm 6” that was deemed not usable and the Phaze 5 was the replacement and I never got them to roll very well for me. When the Phaze AI was released I was on the fence about it because of the 4 & 5 not rolling well for me. I ordered it and put holes in it and even with the AI in this ball again it didn’t roll very well for me. So now we have the Phaze ll Pearl and sadly the same results. I threw it on fresh and it never saw the lane and skidded down the lane. I hit it with a 2000 pad and it shaped a little more but when oil got back on the ball it just went back to skidding down the lane again. I felt as if to make this ball look good my release had to be perfect and only one release made this ball shape. So in preparation for this review I looked back at why the Phaze 3 worked well for me and the 4,5,AI, and P2P did not work so well. All of these balls have the same Velocity Core, but the difference is on the Phaze 3 it is R3S Hybrid, the 4 & 5 had the R2S Pearl, the AI has the TX-16 Pearl and the P2P has the TX-25 Pearl, So with my style it looks like the Velocity Core with a pearl cover isn’t very well for my style of play. The layout is 4 1/2 x 3 5/8 x 3 7/8 (40 x 4 1/2 x 65 using the dual angle layout) Although this is a pin down layout, it still provides good length, great response to the friction (or dry) while being continuous through the pins. I chose this layout to give me good balance of skid, hook and roll from a pearl coverstock. This TX-25 coverstock makes this Phaze II Pearl compliment the TX-16 coverstock of the orginal Phaze II, which is more earlier and has a more rounder shape. The Phaze II Pearl will definitely cover more boards down lane than the original Phaze II. Having both will complement each other very well. The Phaze II Pearl will be a good league/tournament ball to have in my arsenal, and I can trust what it will do on the lanes. Make sure to grab you one… OR TWO!
This ball is a pinch stronger than the phaze Ai, with a much more rounded back end motion. 279/750 out of box for league night.
