Storm Physix Review
While no longer in production, the Storm Physix remains a powerhouse option on the used market for bowlers needing maximum hook potential on heavy oil conditions. Its combination of the Atomic Core and NRG Hybrid coverstock makes it ideal for competitive players seeking tournament-level performance.
Co you ready to bowl yeah I don't know what we're doing but we were told to come here welcome you three you have been chosen for a very special challenge the physics Blackout Challenge I snuck into each of your houses last night stood above your bed and watched you sleep for hours when I was done with that I snuck into your bowling bags and I stole each of your physics blackouts and brought them here today the challenge should you choose to accept it
first to 10 strikes wins win something very very coveted by all you'll find out what it is later are you up to the challenge I guess so y yeah well us [Music] [Music] begin all right guys this is going to be
fun real challenge today physics Blackout Challenge three rounds four balls each three different patterns we're going to show the versatility of the physics blackout we've been seeing the comments people want to see a physics and AI so we gave it to them Nicole is going to go first because she's been warming up for an hour and so how are you going to how are you going to accomplish this uh first pattern I'm not going to tell you what it is either so you just got to line up and figure it out so what's your strategy my strategy is just to beat
these guys y'all keep putting girls against guys and it's time for the girls to win okay I like the attitude K agrees let's see what you got Nicole hey let's go [Music]
wow that was impressive so without giving away too much information tell me where you're standing and where you're looking at I was standing at 15 throwing over second Arrow okay yeah playing it pretty straight but that ball takes off the break point all right pretty nice Ken and yanic aren't around here so what do you think it is you think it's a long medium or short patter can't ask me that I don't know I'd say like mid mid blank mid length all right that's a wide range
but I like it tell them that it might yeah a little guys it's mid all right all right Ken my turn go get where did you guys come from get up there sh all right I think watching the C I'm going to probably stand 22 and I'll probably just throw it right and hopefully it comes back screaming [Music]
[Applause] well what do you think huh what do you think I think it's pretty good I mean I was able to stand pretty like 22 kind of keep my angles a little bit tight but kind of still get it out to the five a little bit I'm watching the co shots I hit it a little bit harder I was able to make it come back from that from the five range the answer is always hit it harder always hit it harder you know all right Yanik you're
up man up well I just saw two people I don't know if I was allowed to but Sodom Bo I think are you admitting guilt did you cheat I'm not cheating we weren't until the rules throwing this ball is like cheating so I agree I've thrown a few shots looks pretty good I think I'm going to be similar to Ken but maybe a little bit left let's see what this bu like I'm going to try stand like 25 26
[Music] can I say like you said this ball is a cheer ball I feel like I could keep
moving left and the ball keeps recovering I don't know what this pattern is but it seems pretty tricky but this ball is just able to dig through the oil and do what it needs to well that's it that is impressive uh because the pattern is 46 ft and 33 Ms it's a long long pretty heavy one so it's good to see that ball handled it quite well the surface on it looks pretty good even though it's a pro ball I think the 2000 grit really helps it blend this I don't know yep NX is uh pretty strong all right good job guys
round two coming at up next I'm going to oil the lanes and keep you in suspense all right Nicole same challenge new pattern now I'm not going to tell you what the pattern is but where were you standing on the first pattern I'm standing at 15 okay and where were you aiming at the arrows 10 10 so let me do some quick calculations in my mind okay so I want you to stand 25 and hit 14 and it's going to be
perfect electrical [Music] don't [Music]
[Music] [Applause] wow that was uh some pretty crazy carry how do you feel about that well it seemed like you knew exactly where I us to stand that was perfect I should probably try the T rep thing sometime someday all right who's up I am Ken good luck bud good luck dang pretty cold so I was watching from her be a little bit more firm move a couple more boards so send like
23 throw it to like the same spot probably [Music]
impressive I like what I see what do you think on this pattern on this pattern I feel like it's maybe a little bit shorter but more volume than the last one I feel like for some reason like I still have to move a little bit more left but other than that it's still kind of the same so you got to cheat you watch Nicole I did that's not fair get off the lane the get your turn okay well I just saw two people bowling so I think I'm going to move left as well don't miss I think I'm going to
move just a little bit maybe like three boards left but move my eyes left as well [Music] [Music] [Music]
[Music] [Applause] such a pro I said it before I say it again so what do you think pretty good I think this pattern had more Mis room so I feel like that's why I wanted to move my eyes a little bit left that if I missed right I had the Miss room right left it was a little bit of push and the physics blackout just did exactly what I needed it to do no matter what the shot
was well you both uh everyone is 8 for eight so uh it's a tie ball game I'm going to oil something new okay I'm not going to tell you what it is this pattern to win is going to be tough real tough all right Nicole last round new pattern pattern before was 39 ft MH pattern before that was 46 ft I'm not going to tell you what it is this time but I think you should play in your comfort zone my comfort zone where is that okay
usually I like starting at 20 which is what I hope you're referring to okay it's a good place it's in the Middle where are you looking and we'll look we'll look a little left to 10 somewhere in between 10 and 15 ah Blackjack Bing stand on 20 hold on 10 I like it [Music]
am I [Music] on am I [Music] toght there's no way they're going to follow that that was amazing so uh how' we do do we line you up in the right spot yeah did you make any adjustments off of that I moved a little bit with my eyes to the right stood
I uh yeah I ended up looking at 10 like I thought all right my comfort zone so you wouldn't change anything no don't think so it all struck all right pretty uh physic blackout scale of 1 to 10 after your perfect 300 so far it's out of 10 it's 10 out of 10 all right who's up it's me again don't ever do that again why can't I do that I'm just trying to have fun today Chad you you fun on your own time my ball so I'm
trying to have fun of it because you stole my ball so Ken you got eight in a row you got what it takes to match Nicole no I think I oh all right that's rude I mean she did say she was going to beat us so but watching Nicole look like something pretty fun so I'm just going to stand in my comfort zone around 25 and I'm just going to sling it man [Music] [Applause]
[Music] I was standing in the wrong spot bang so uh what did you think about that your last 12 shots Perfection you match Nicole dude I am so pumped about this
ball I always L the physics line the OG physics was the first ball I ever shot out of box 300 with so bringing back the physics line makes me very happy so how similar is it to it how would you compare um this one to me is a little bit more continuous than the original physics for me this is a different layout um from what I used to have on my original physics where I had a 442 um this one I went with a little bit longer pin so it gives me a little bit more length but stores a little bit more energy to come off the spots which I kind of want now in my balls so this
allows me to move more left and just kind of hit on it a little bit harder so okay well I think it's time to see if yanique has what it takes to step up he did it this is pretty impressive so far we have two 300 games here I've never seen anything like it uh I can't wait to do it myself I'm scared actually it seems to be like a house pattern maybe which is not my comfort zone mhm but this ball hooks a lot and I think the texture will help me blend out a little bit so I'm going to move even more left I'm going to go 35 why not see what this
ball does [Music] am I on to [Music] tight am I on too tight [Music]
wow 300 again all day wow you guys shot 300 amazing no way it was my day to win well we're tied we're TI you didn't win or news yet yeah true okay so last Challenge and this is the tiebreaker this is the Blackout Challenge all lights go off oh you're not going to be able to see anything where you're sliding where you're aiming all you'll be able to SE is the pins highest count wins I have a question though is it a new pattern again or same pattern the
last pattern ready Nicole you're up no pressure lights all right no lights oh the arrows have disappeared all right back oh yeah you guys try to do that one
oh man okay Ken I'm nervous now you should you nervous yeah oh please hook she off it no I can't do that yanic don't miss you're not going to want to miss out on what I have no I know for you it's going to be special all you need to do is tie oh
[Applause] no wow blackout don't miss well you guys worked your butts off very proud of you never seen three 300s in a row like that that was very impressive so I brought you something very special today are you ready for it ready sure you won't believe what you could do with this uh thank you
[Music]
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Storm Physix demonstrates exceptional versatility across multiple oil patterns and lane conditions. Independent reviewers evaluated the ball on three distinct patterns ranging from 39 feet to 46 feet, observing consistent performance characteristics throughout. On the longer 46-foot pattern with 33 boards in play, testers noted the ballโs ability to digest heavy oil volumes effectively, with the 2000-grit reactive solid coverstock providing reliable surface traction without requiring immediate adjustment. Reviewers appreciated the ballโs predictable motion through the oil pattern and its capacity to handle firm throws without losing control.
Across medium-length patterns, the Physix showcased strong recovery and continuous hook characteristics. Testing showed the asymmetric core design allowed bowlers to move their angles left and still generate backend reaction, providing flexibility in shot selection. Reviewers observed that the ball responded well to both conservative angles and more aggressive line adjustments, making it forgiving of minor directional misses. One significant observation involved the ballโs performance in house conditions, where testers noted the backend motion remained strong enough to create consistent carry even when playing tighter angles or increasing ball speed.
The coverstock surface treatment proved durable throughout extended testing, maintaining consistent friction characteristics without showing degradation. Independent evaluation indicated the Physix could be controlled effectively across different release speeds and delivery styles, suggesting the core-coverstock pairing works cohesively to produce predictable ball motion rather than volatile reaction changes between shots.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Storm Physix is well-suited for bowlers seeking a strong, all-purpose reactive ball that performs across a variety of oil volumes and pattern lengths. Medium to higher rev-rate bowlers will find the asymmetric coreโs energy storage beneficial, particularly those who like to play deeper angles or adjust their lines more aggressively during competition. The ballโs continuous hook and responsive backend motion make it valuable for league and tournament play where pattern versatility matters.
This ball also appeals to bowlers upgrading from entry-level equipment or those wanting to add a reliable workhorse to their arsenal. The Physixโs predictable motion means itโs forgiving enough for developing bowlers to learn shot shapes while still offering the performance depth that more advanced competitors require. If you prefer reactive balls over particle blends and need something that wonโt require constant surface maintenance, the Physix represents solid value in the medium-heavy category.
The Pros

Bowlers Say
Bowlers say the Storm PhysiX fills the gap between the Sure Lock and Code X, with excellent midlane read and continuation through the pins. They love its versatility across different oil conditions, controllable hook pattern, and ability to maintain energy downlane. Many report it as their go-to first ball for medium-heavy oil patterns.

Ball Review: When I threw my first couple shots with this ball I could not believe how much overall hook I saw. I used it on a fresh house shot and the ball read early and was significantly continuous down lane. We placed a pin down layout at 70x4x80 which is intended for fresh house and sport patterns. I got very far left, for myself, standing around 32/33 on the approach targeting 9 down lane. To give a reference on how I normally play the lanes on fresh THS (Typical House Shots) my feet are normally 19/20 on the approach so you could see the significant move this ball had me make. Once I matched up in the right part of the lane all I did was chased the line left, threw the ball right and the PHYSIX continued to drive through the pins. The ball was very controllable in the mid-lane and produced a very smooth reaction. I did not alter the surface as I kept it out of box finish at 3000 grit. This will be a great ball to have in your arsenal for fresh patterns and/or when you need something strong with continuation down lane. Video: https://youtu.be/g6tSk1aVPeo
The physiX has the never used before stateside NRG hybrid coverstock, and boasts the all new atomic core with an RG of 2.48 and diff of 053. This core will really help the ball see the lane sooner and blend those wet dry conditions you often run into during league and tournament play. I decided to structure this video a little differently, and used a 41' challenge pattern to really highlight the misses (or lack thereof) for this ball. When compared to the Code X, the physiX is visibly 2-3' earlier and a few more boards more overall. I can see the physiX as being the first ball out of my bag for many medium to longer patterns when the sure lock is a little too much ball and the Code x is too quick off of friction. Be sure to preorder your own for the October 19th release! #StormNation Review Video: https://youtu.be/xnUcpYft3aI
Storm PhysiX Brian Sumner Storm Amateur Staff This ball impressed me right off the press. That's not something that happens for me very often. A few things I look for in any new ball are; when does it rev, where does it hook, and how does it drive through the rack? I generally get an unexpected reaction in one of those areas. Not with the PhysiX. I got exactly what I was looking for in all 3 phases. I went with the pin buffer layout method for this ball. 3.5x6.25x2.5 (80x3.5x50 for you Dual Angle folks). Looking to take full advantage of the huge Atomic Core and the 3000 grit NRG hybrid cover, I wanted to see the ball rev early and hold a strong continuous hook phase. No reason to dummy this thing down. When you've got a big engine, you don't cruise through a neighborhood, you race down the highway! Seriously though, I didn't want to see this thing push 45 feet and bounce left nor did I want something stable and safe. I'm looking for muscle and versatility from fresh house patterns to those flatter, high volume challenge patterns. I initially tested this thing out on a broken-down house pattern from a previous night. With that said, I assumed I would probably see very early read and a lazy backend reaction. Again, I was very happy to see the reaction I intended to get when I laid this out. Now, on the fresh the shape got a little more angular, but only slightly. Not that I would suggest throwing this ball late in your league night or beyond the transition in a tournament, but it is nice to know that if you're lined up and throwing well, this ball could very well go the distance if you needed it to.
Storm Physix Layout: 4 x 4 x 2 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 300 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center Kegel Machine ? Brunswick Anvilane The Storm Physix utilizes the new Atomic Core and the NRG Hybrid Coverstock. The aim here was to fill the reaction slot between the Storm Sure Lock and Storm Code X. We have success! We saw that exact intended motion - not as early as the Sure Lock but a little earlier breakpoint than the Code X. The Storm Physix had good continuation at the pocket, which was the case with the Storm HyRoad X as well. The Storm Physix will be a good option on medium to longer patterns for us rev challenged seniors and the speed dominant bowlers. Check out Liz Johnson throwing the Storm Physix for a 300-game and tournament title at the 2018 Sam Ho Korea International Cup held this month. The ball looked really impressive. The Physix is the latest release in Storm's Premier line. It features the brand new Atomic core which by the numbers is a medium RG and a higher DIFF and the NRG Hybrid cover which is an earlier and stronger than average formula in Storm's line. I have thrown the Physix on a 42' house shot as well as a 40' 2.5:1 pattern and what I see is that the Physix gets down lane better than the surface finish lead me to believe and the shape on the back is what I consider to be "slightly aggressive". I don't think the shape is skid snap or super roll-y, but somewhere in the middle. To me, the Physix fits right between the Intense Fire(IF) and the Sure Lock(SL). For me it read the patterns quicker than the IF, but not nearly as strong as the SL. The Nano technology in the cover gives the Physix a more rounded shape down lane than most hybrids I am used to seeing. Because of that, the roll of the Physix feels a little more like a solid to me than a pearl but definitely has more length than a traditional NRG cover. I think the Physix is great if you are looking for a high end asymmetrical piece that is just a little cleaner than traditional high end asyms.
