Performance Analysis

Independent testing on a house shot revealed the Storm Trend 2 to be a reliable workhorse in the mid-control category. Testers struck consistently with the ball at standard house patterns, noting that the shiny reactive hybrid coverstock generated good friction in the backend while maintaining manageable length through the mid-lane. Starting left of the breakpoint and reducing axis rotation produced solid entry angles and clean pin action. The ball proved playable across a wide movement window—remaining effective even when moved as far right as the fourth arrow—making it forgiving for bowlers adjusting to changing lane conditions throughout a session.

What distinguished the Trend 2 during testing was its balanced motion profile. The modified Piston LD core (diff of 0.041) paired with the NRG hybrid coverstock delivered smooth, predictable ball motion without excessive length or aggressive backend snap. Testing showed the ball reads the midlane earlier than comparable benchmark-core Storm equipment, producing a controlled arc rather than an aggressive skid-flip motion. This characteristic proved valuable on medium-volume oil patterns where bowlers need controlled length without sacrificing energy storage at the pins. The Trend 2 positioned itself as a step stronger than the original Trend but more controlled than pure aggressive reactive lines, making it suitable for early-night bowling when backends haven’t yet dried significantly.

Who Is This Ball For?

The Storm Trend 2 fits bowlers seeking a dependable mid-lane reading ball for medium oil conditions and typical house shots. It’s ideal for players who want versatility without committing to a pure control ball, and who appreciate enough coverstock strength to generate action without overwhelming backend snap. League bowlers moving between multiple patterns during a night will find the Trend 2’s playable range and smooth motion characteristics reduce adjustment frequency.

This ball also suits bowlers building a two-to-three ball arsenal who already carry either light oil or heavy oil specialists. The Trend 2 fills the middle ground effectively, serving as a primary strike ball on medium-volume nights while remaining responsive enough to handle lane transitions. It’s less ideal for bowlers exclusively chasing extreme backends or playing exclusively on heavy oil patterns—those players would benefit from stronger reactive equipment—but represents an excellent all-around choice for recreational and serious league competition.

Drilling is 55 x 4 3/8 x 45 The Trend 2 is a new unique ball from the Storm Signature line. I have found the Trend 2 to be different from the original Trend due to its strong continuation and overall usability. I have tried the ball on both a longer typical house shot and a shorter sport pattern to judge the ball reaction. On the typical house shot, I found that this ball still reads in the oil extremely well due to the Hybrid NRG coverstock and since the differential is lower at 0.041 (15lbs) it tends to blend the drier parts of the lane better than the original Trend did for me. I was able to use the Trend 2 both on the fresh and as transition occurred as I moved further left on the lane. If you tend to be on lane surfaces that hook a lot or on lower volumes of oil, this could be a really nice 1st ball out of the bag for you. Vise versa and this could be a great game 2 or game 3 ball for you depending on your style. On the sport pattern, the ball acted very similarly even though I was on a few more ML of overall oil. Since the pattern was shorter, it was a tough ball to use on the fresh since the ball is shiny. As transition occurred and I had to open my angles up more, this ball really came alive. It gave me plenty of continuation without being too angular in the backend and went through the pins extremely well from a few different angles. This is the type of ball that will be a staple in my bag for many different tournaments and league sessions due its overall great versatility. Adam Chase Storm Staff

The latest and greatest collaboration between Belmo and Storm. Introducing the brand-new Trend 2. With a modified Piston Core, wrapped with the NRG Hybrid reactive cover, this Trend 2 is arguably the best one oiut of the Belmo/Storm collaboration series. We saw out of the original Trend a pearl option that you can play straighter with when it came to the fronts hooking early and a development of friction to the right, the Trend was the perfect option for those situations. When players need a stronger option to go left (if you’re right handed) the Trend 2 is the perfect option. What I see out of the Trend 2 is being clean but controllable down lane and not a hockey stick type of motion. This ball will be really good for flatter patterns when players need a cleaner option, but also something that’ll be more controllable in the back end. Trend 2 Ball Specs Cover Stock: NRG Hybrid Reactive Finish: 1500 Grit Polish Color: Indigo/Space Black/Rose Core: Piston LD Core Layout: 65 x 5 x 35 RG: 2.54 Differential: 0.041 Review The Trend 2 is the latest Jason Belmonte signature ball. The Trend 2 has a stronger cover and redesigned weight block than the successful original Trend pearl ball. The piston core has been modified to raise the RG and lower the Differential to create more powerful reaction giving the bowler more continuation through the pins. The NRG hybrid reactive coverstock still allows the ball to be clean through the front of the lanes with a strong move coming off the oil pattern. I tested the ball on a 42 feet THS. As a medium to low rev player, I see this ball being great on medium patterns. I was able to play in the track area and deep inside without any loss of ball reaction or pin carry. The Trend 2 is a must have for league and tournament bowlers. Anticipated release date is October 29, 2021. My ball reviews are posted on YouTube channel Stanley Waite. WOW…This. Ball. Is. Sick. I’m a big fan of the motion the Piston core makes. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the ProMotion. The OG Trend was also a motion that was unique in my bag. Finally, this newest incarnation, is the most versatile of the Trilogy. The nano cover is the same cover that was on the OG PhysiX was a ball that I had multiples of because of all the success that I had with it. I really liked this cover. The combination of the this cover along with the modified Piston core, created a monster of a ball. It’s the perfect combination of skid, strength, and angularity. There aren’t many balls out there where I am instantly like, “WOW.” This ball is one of them! The newest Belmo ball is most certainly his best. The new Trend 2 is a stronger and more angular version of the original Trend. It’s a step up in overall hook and is a ball that will allow you to play steeper angles without losing hitting power and continuation through the pins. Trend 2 has the NRG Hybrid cover and a modified Piston core. Trend 2 will look good on a variety of conditions and will give you a new option for moving left without seeing the ball burn too soon or lack “pop” down lane. This ball also will bridge the gap between the stronger earlier balls like Axiom or Proton Physics and the mid-range type balls like the Electrify or Hyroads. Jason Hollingsworth #StormNation
