Performance Analysis

Performance Analysis

Independent testing of the Storm Trend on a 44-foot league pattern revealed a ball with notably stronger downlane motion than expected from its specifications. The Reactive Pearl coverstock displayed consistent, aggressive backend reaction—particularly when the bowler moved into the 15–19 board range—generating significant pin action and carry through the 1-3 pocket. Testers observed that the ball’s motion profile fell somewhere between a smoother, more rounded response and a sharper angular motion, making it suitable for adjustments throughout the lane transition. The symmetrical core paired with the R2S cover generated reliable pin-mixing energy rather than overly aggressive deflection, which allowed for repeatable strikes even on slightly off-target shots.

One of the more interesting findings was how the Trend responded to hand position and axis rotation changes. As testers increased their hand action and moved further left, the ball demonstrated strong boomerang characteristics with pronounced midlane length and backend recovery. Surface adjustments were kept minimal during testing, suggesting the factory finish offers solid versatility out of the box on medium-heavy oil conditions. Comparisons to other balls in the tester’s arsenal indicated the Trend positioned itself as a step up in downlane pop from smoother, more controlled options, while maintaining more predictable motion than highly aggressive asymmetrical designs. The ball proved particularly effective once lanes began to transition and required more angular movement to reach the pocket.

Who Is This Ball For?

The Storm Trend is an excellent choice for bowlers who carry mid-performance equipment and need a ball that bridges the gap between controlled, stroking releases and more aggressive hand positions. League bowlers operating in medium-heavy oil conditions will find this ball especially useful during the transition phase, when smoother equipment becomes insufficient but the lanes haven’t yet broken down enough to require maximum aggression. The Reactive Pearl coverstock and symmetrical core combination makes it forgiving enough for bowlers still refining consistency, while offering enough backend motion to reward good fundamentals.

This ball is also well-suited for competitive bowlers building a three- to four-ball arsenal. Its motion profile suggests it pairs effectively with smoother control pieces (like the Parallax mentioned in testing) for fresh-lane play and earlier in a shift, while still providing enough pop and carry to handle mid-to-late-match conditions. The Trend’s willingness to respond to increased hand action makes it particularly valuable for bowlers who like to adjust their axis rotation and release point rather than constantly swapping equipment—a practical advantage for cash league and tournament play.

Storm's NEW Trend fits perfectly after the Axiom! I found there was too big of a gap between the Phaze II or Axiom to the Hy-Road line. This does the trick!

The newest collaboration with Storm Bowling Products and Jason Belmonte is the new Trend! This features the R2S Pearl Reactive Coverstock wrapped around the Piston Core that is seen in the Pro Motion! The Trend I drilled is pin under my bridge same drilling as my pro motion and compliments it very well! It’s more cleaner with more backend than the pro motion but very continuous! I personally love the Pro Motion because of the shape of it and very happy that this will compliment the Pro Motion very well! The Storm Timeless for me was to angular and this Trend isn’t as angular as the Timless but more backend than the Pro Motion! Head over to your local Storm VIP Pro Shop and get yours on 8/7/20!

The Trend is the latest release from Storm in collaboration with Jason Belmonte. From personal experience bowling with and drilling past Belmo Branded equipment, I've seen first hand some love it or leave it responses. The Trend however is going to be the crowd pleaser! The Piston block wrapped up in probably the best Pearl cover our industry has seen will be a hit. I drilled mine with a 4.75 pin above my ring with my cg 1.5 outside of my gc. The down lane reaction was outstanding, the Piston spun up with ease and R2S retained energy and popped off of the pattern. I can see this ball hanging around for awhile in the shops and I'm excited to drill these for my customers. Another banger from Team Utah #stormnation

I was very impressed by the new Storm Trend. In my YouTube review I compared it to the Marvel Pearl. The Trend was cleaner through the fronts and more angular through the pocket. The coverstock and core combination on this ball is perfect. It is clear that the R2S coverstock was the best option for this ball. If you want to carry better and need more angle into the pocket the Trend is the ball for you. The Trend will give you a quicker response, more defined breakpoint, and just what you need for better carry. I recently used the Trend in two tournaments, and it was my first ball out of my bag when my strong symmetric balls were burning up too soon. It has gained a permanent spot in my bag. The Trend has an RG of 2.52 and a differential of 0.049. I drilled mine 45 x 4 3/4 x 25 and love it. Looking for angle? The Trend will be the option for you. The Piston core, seen in the Pro-Motion, combined with one of the most popular covers of all time, R2S, will be, in my early opinion, the Hy-Road Pearl on steroids. The Trend will easily float through the fronts and provide a sharp angle down lane. This ball is going to be great for when the fronts are hooking early yet you need strong shape down lane. The Trend will not be at a loss for energy and when the lanes call for it this will be a must have to get you through those tricky conditions.
