DV8 Trouble Maker Review
While no longer in production, the DV8 Trouble Maker remains a solid mid-performance option on the used market for bowlers seeking reliable medium-heavy oil performance. The combination of the Dualistic symmetric core and Inciter Max Continuation hybrid coverstock delivers predictable motion with good versatility.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing of the DV8 Trouble Maker revealed a ball engineered with a fundamentally different approach to core design. The Dualistic Core—50% larger in volume and 25% heavier than comparable symmetric cores—delivers exceptional versatility through three distinct drilling zones that fundamentally alter ball motion based on finger hole placement. Independent reviewers observed that moving the center of grip relative to the pin creates measurable changes in differential and track flare, enabling bowlers to customize ball reaction without needing multiple pieces. On medium-heavy oil conditions, the ball demonstrated strong back-end reaction when drilled in the “Strong” layout (5.5” dot-to-grip distance), while the “Control” layout (1.5” dot-to-grip distance) produced smoother, more predictable motion on lighter oil and high-friction lanes.
The Reactive Hybrid coverstock paired with the Dualistic Core produced consistent performance across the three primary layouts demonstrated during testing. The “Benchmark” layout (3.5” dot-to-grip distance) emerged as the true all-purpose option, delivering moderate track flare with dependable back-end motion suitable for varied lane conditions. Testing revealed that finger hole depth significantly impacts performance—the recommended 3-inch depth maximized the relationship between RG and differential. On the lanes, the ball showed measurable differences in track flare and hook intensity based on layout selection, with traditional two-handed bowlers and conventional grip styles both able to achieve strong results using standard drilling techniques.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Trouble Maker is purpose-built for two-handed, no-thumb bowlers seeking a single ball that can adapt to multiple oil conditions and lane environments. The Dualistic Core’s three drilling zones give these bowlers unprecedented control over ball motion without requiring multiple pieces in their arsenal. Highly rev-dominant players on drier lanes will benefit from the Control layout’s smoother response, while bowlers on medium to heavy oil conditions can access the Strong layout’s angular, dynamic motion. The availability of the ball in lighter weights (12-13 lbs) also makes it an excellent high-performance entry point for youth bowlers transitioning to advanced equipment.
Traditional bowlers using conventional finger-and-thumb grips will also find value in the Trouble Maker’s versatility and strong mid-lane-to-backend performance. The reactive hybrid coverstock provides consistent friction and motion across standard layouts, making it a reliable choice for bowlers who want dependable performance without needing layout customization. The online drilling tool simplifies the layout selection process, removing guesswork and ensuring optimal performance based on individual release characteristics and lane conditions.
The Pros
- • Hybrid coverstock provides good length and backend motion
- • Versatile performance across medium to heavy oil patterns
- • Clean through the fronts with strong continuation
The Cons
- • Limited hook potential for true heavy oil conditions
- • May struggle on lighter oil volumes

Bowlers frequently mention:
I am so proud to introduce to you the newest addition to the DV8 line, the DV8 Troublemaker. This ball has had a tremendous amount of time and effort into designing a ball for bowlers of the new bowling revolution…2-Handed Bowlers and bowlers who do not use a thumb. Well, I use a thumb and all I can tell you is this ball is AMAZING! The difference which sets this ball apart from other balls is its uniquely large core design. I am a HUGE fan of larger core bowling balls because they typically roll much better for bowlers with higher speeds and rev rates. The ball is symmetrical, but doesn’t roll like a typical symmetrical ball. My layout in this new ball is a simple stacked layout with the pin and the CG in alignment. Nothing too exotic, but the ball reaction is beyond belief. Pins DO NOT jump around, but almost seem to collapse in on themselves. The ball works incredible on heavy oil. Strangely enough, I have not left many splits with this ball, and how it rolls through the pins is unlike ANYTHING I HAVE EVER THROWN BEFORE! For 2-handed and 2-finger bowlers, YOU MUST HAVE THIS BALL IN YOUR BAG….PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! DV8 has done it again and bowlers who take a chance on this ball WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! If you are not throwing DV8, you’re just not bowling!!!

DV8 nailed this one! I am a one handed righty and love the motion of this ball! Clean on the heads and nice smooth arc on the back end. Actually had a full roller lefty use my ball drilled for me and didn’t roll over the fingers or thumb at all and had a really nice motion just like mine (opposite of course). I recommend this one to bowlers of all skill levels no matter which hand or 2 handed.

DV8 and Brunswick hit this one out of this world. The new DV8 Trouble Maker with the all new Dualistic Core is a straight winner. If your looking for a benchmark ball for 2 handers, no thumb bowlers this one is it along with traditional bowlers. The overall motion of this ball is eye popping. The amount of messengers I have been able to send across the pin deck is amazing. Don't sleep on this one folks. The game has changed for the better.

Trouble Maker features Dynamicore for more hitting power. The Dualistic core also allows 2-handers to drill in a defined area to change the numbers and reaction more then at typical core shape. Medium to Heavy oil was the intent of this design. Threw this on Cheetah pattern and a great looks with it, once it came off the pattern it was strong but smooth. I did a 45x4.5x40 layout

I’m not a no thumb bowler. But let me tell you if you use a thumb you are going to see a really strong symmetrical ball. This ball for me will be my strong symmetrical ball. It can be used on heavier volumes oil.
