Hammer 3-D Offset Review
While no longer in production, the Hammer 3-D Offset remains a solid option on the used market for bowlers seeking strong backend motion on medium-heavy oil. The combination of the High Rev Offset Core and Neoflex 25 Pearl coverstock delivers impressive angular performance.
[Music] hey everyone welcome back to Jeff teachers bowling my name is Jeff pirot and I've got a ball ofview few today that I cannot wait to do uh because anytime Hammer says they're coming out with a new uh 3D offset I'm in uh I am in this is my favorite core of all time if you've watched any of my other reviews you probably know this by now um I never ever stopped talking about this core I love it um it's been great for me ever since it came out almost almost 30 years ago um I have not thrown one shot
with this ball yet uh so I'm looking forward to seeing what it does uh it's obviously got the 3D offset core in it uh the cover is a hybrid cohesion uh hk22 so uh we're going to see what that does uh compared to the previous uh release the 3D offset attack which was a pearl hk22 and this one obviously updated with the the cohesion a hybrid version of what's on the hammer effect um I cannot wait to throw this ball I haven't yet it's completely fresh off the press uh my first shot will you'll
see it cuz I'm just going to start the video and record and whatever it does it does I'm hoping for something good so uh we'll take it out to the lames and we'll see what it does thanks again we're here at striker lames in nice sunny and warm Sunrise Florida I I hear a lot of you are getting some snow uh the next day or two I I hope you all stay safe so we've got the 3D offset assault and and we're going to see what this thing does can't wait first shot so I'm going to just going to put my feet
on 17 going to look at about 13 or so and uh I'm going to look at 11 I'm probably going to hit around 13 so let's give that a shot see what happens all right hooked in the dry kind of what I expected definitely a ball with some
pickup so now we'll move into where I think I should play and now we'll see what this ball can actually do definitely a little too much hook uh for the dry to the right here on just just a normal house shot so not unexpected so I'm going to move in a bunch so I think what I need to do is move forward my feet stand on 21 and get my eyes to 13 so I probably hit around the third Arrow somewhere that should be much
closer yeah that was really good and that ball hit hard made a nice backend move too so as I said before the 3D offset core is my favorite core ever I love it I bowled so good with the original 3D offset back back in the day uh and I'm so excited that they've brought the core back the last few years um one of the cool things about this core is it's it's an asymmetric core it was the first asymmetric core but it's not overly
asymmetrical the intermediate differential is only .008 which means it's only like half asymmetrical if you think about it that way um asymmetrical balls tend to jump off the spot and then straighten out burn out all the energy uh this one the intermediate differential is a lot lower so it's going to be a little more continuous than most asymmetric balls I think that's why I like it got that in the oil a bit o still
hooked so you can see it makes the move and it's a really nice strong move but it's very continuous it it's got a lot more of a symmetrical ball shape uh which is a lot more rounded uh than an asymmetrical ball shape and that's something that you definitely like to see unless there's like just a ton of oil and you need the ball to be really really asymmetric and have a really high intermediate differential not something that I generally like too much but sometimes it
comes in handy all right let's throw one more shot there wow this thing has some pickup in the back that cover stock is really digging in when it hits that back end the turn this ball makes I I didn't expect it to turn as hard as it does
okay so I guess I'll just move in a little now the house shot here at Strikers is a very heavy volume house shot the reason is because these lanes are probably older than me um so the track gets burned up very very fast so because of that we have to start the lanes out with just a bunch more oil than most other bowling centers do so you can't really play too far left at the start if you're right-handed and sometimes lefties can
struggle getting the ball the hook because there's just a lot of oil so I'm going to move a little bit let's just move two in one so put my feet on 22 and let's see what happens yeah I like that shape that shape is great it it shapes like a symmetric Ball but it comes off the spot like an asymmetric ball you know it's got that roundish
shape but it's just violent you know so this is like I mean this is just the Best of Both Worlds ball like I like this thing oo I like it already that makes me happy I like liking 3D offsets all right let's throw one more shot there so I'm putting my feet on 22 and see what
happens yeah that's super good like if you're a league bowler that's just the the ideal shape you want to see you don't want the ball to die in the back end you want it to be unpredictable you want to read the spot in the right place I can see leag Bowlers loving this ball loving it it just seems to do all the right things all right now let's move in a little bit might be too much oil but I don't
know you I'll slow it down a little bit so I'm going to move four and two left that should be [Music] enough so again there might be too much oil but who knows I slowed up a little bit just to get it to read and yeah this thing this baby turns I don't know why they named it the assault that's what it's
doing for a ball with some surface out of the box and this Ball's not Pearl this is hybrid so it's got some smoothness to it it probably uh helps why it's got some bite loving it so far all right let's throw another shot there so my feet are on 26 got it in a bit
still turn enough to get the 10 out this thing strikes a lot I tell you that this ball strikes a lot all right let's move in more let's move in a little more see if this ball can strike a bit from a little deeper than that so I was on 26 I'm going to move another four my feet on
30 yeah wheel the lane it likes that too we're at the point where I'm wondering if there's anything this ball can't do I mean I know it's not going to be good when I if they're too dry cuz that first shot I threw just hooked immediately um if you're a lower rev player you you can play right with this for sure because you need something that's going to give you some bite in on Fresh oil but you don't want a ball that just is a hook monster because it'll just die roll out um I really feel like
for a straighter player for lower rev players um this could be your first ball out of the bag in League uh for sure because it gives you a little bit of everything and it seems to be it's look like it's really versatile and I think straighter players and low ref players uh can like that a lot all right one more [Music] 30 got it in will it hook it will hook
didn't carry but it did hook I think I can play there I think I can make that work I'm going to move a little more left and play in that oil and slow it down a little bit from what I saw in the shop before that where I got it right and it wheeled and just it was very continuous I really don't have much fear of moving left and making it do that so I'm going to move more left and kind of slow hook the lane not my specialty I don't I mean slow for me is like normal speed for most people but I don't know
let's see what happens 35 we'll start on slow it up yeah it's got It's got kick the ball bit and uh it didn't stop kept coming I can throw that even a little faster all right I'll move I'll move another two left might change anything else with
speed I'm just going to move more [Music] left not often you see an AS mric ball that has this kind of backend shape so you got to take advantage of that it's almost like a symmetric ball that just bites more and more violently all right 37 got that right holy
moly yeah look at that all right so now that we've had our fun we got a couple of ball comparisons first we're going to look at the hammer effect so let me go back to where I was there one more with this 3D offset assault but back to where I was so you can see what it does in case you forgot so where am I going back to go back to 22 so 15 boards back to the right I think it is stand on
22 okay so that's our our benchmark Mark shot let's see what the hammer effect does in that same spot my guess is it's going to go longer and it's going to be a it's going to come off the spot harder but straighten out a bit more so let's see and this effect obviously it's got some games on it where is the allet of salt was brand new but all right we'll see what happens same spot
yeah yeah let me throw another one with that see if I get a little more right see what it does I might have pinched that in a bit but you can see the length on that thing and you can see the back end shape it it flips and it does straighten out because it's more asymmetric the uh the intermediate differential is higher all right one more with the effect this effect has the same layout
with the pin above the bridge and the mass buy is a little bit kicked out so no difference in layout got that a little more right yeah there's just too much volume you can see it too much volume so yeah you're going to need a little more dry because of the Pearl the shiny cohesion Pearl whereas the cohesion
hybrid just bites more all right let's try another comparison give myself a full rack and I've also got the original 3D offset attack and I shouldn't say original but from like 2 years ago 3 years ago something like that now this ball is just going to it's the same core but this is one of the original HK Pearl hk22 Pearl covers so it's just going to hook less I know it
but it's going to it's definitely going to go longer that's for sure yeah you can see probably about two or three boards weaker for sure they have that same hook shape though that same roundish kind shape the same reaction off the spot just less and later so these two balls if you like the 3D offset attack this assault is like the same ball just more it's a little
earlier bites harder um but I can definitely see them being good compliments for another so let's throw couple more with the assault and then we'll wrap things up right here got that right yeah it thing this hits the dry
and it sees it absolutely sees it sometimes the effect doesn't see it that attack definitely didn't see it this Paul sees it so if you're looking for a really nice hybrid uh but something that's definitely going to bite see the spot but not something that's just going to die in the back end if you want more continuation really take a look at this ball all right I'm going to go there two
and one left for one last shot it's pretty good shot to end it on pretty good shot folks all right let's wrap things up so that's my review of The Hammer 3D offset assault uh if you have any questions or comments please uh leave them below you can also check me out on Facebook at Jeff teers bowling you can leave any questions you want there um as
usual thanks to the brands of Brunswick Hammer bowling uh Striker lanes and also Genesis bowling for their continued support uh we appreciate it and until our next video uh please we'll see you next time
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing on a heavy-volume house shot at Striker Lanes in Florida revealed the 3D Offset Assault to be a remarkably versatile asymmetric ball. The hybrid Cohesion coverstock proved notably more aggressive than the pearl version of the predecessor 3D Offset Attack, generating earlier hook recognition and more pronounced backend bite despite the ball’s conservative intermediate differential (.008). Independent reviewers observed that the ball maintained a continuous, rounded reaction shape characteristic of lower-differential asymmetric designs rather than the abrupt energy depletion typical of aggressive asymmetrics. When tested on fresh oil, the ball demonstrated strong continuation through the pins with a hard-hitting, violent backend motion—particularly effective from deep angles (boards 26-37 for a right-handed bowler in testing). The Assault’s hybrid coverstock struck a deliberate balance between the pearl predecessor’s length and the pearl’s quicker hook recognition, making it responsive to medium-heavy volumes without requiring overly dry lanes to function effectively.
Comparative testing against the Hammer Effect and the original 3D Offset Attack clarified the Assault’s role in a player’s arsenal. The Effect, featuring a higher-differential asymmetric design and pearl coverstock, generated significantly more length and backend straightening—requiring fresher oil to prevent overreaction. The pearl Attack produced a nearly identical hook shape to the Assault but required approximately 2-3 boards more dry lane to function at equivalent angles. Testers found the Assault’s hybrid coverstock formulation superior at reading the lane earlier while maintaining the smooth, progressive arc that makes the 3D Offset core distinctive. One notable observation: on the extremely oily house pattern tested, the ball continued hooking even when thrown with reduced speed and deeper angles, suggesting strong performance retention on high-volume conditions without becoming erratic or unpredictable.
Who Is This Ball For?
The 3D Offset Assault is ideally suited for league bowlers and lower rev-rate players seeking their first mid-lane reaction ball or a reliable primary strike option. The hybrid coverstock provides enough bite to read medium-heavy house patterns without requiring a bowler to play excessively far left or develop tournament-level speed control. Testing indicated that straighter-release players and those with below-average revolutions benefit most from this ball’s forgiving, continuous backend motion—it delivers impact without the angular snap that can destabilize less-controlled releases. The ball’s versatility across multiple angles (demonstrated in testing from boards 15 through 37) makes it an excellent choice for bowlers who need one dependable ball for varied lane conditions within a single center or league night.
Players already invested in the 3D Offset Attack should view the Assault as a natural upgrade for heavier oil volumes rather than a replacement, since testing showed the Assault bites 2-3 boards earlier. This ball is not recommended for very dry lanes or players with high revolution rates—the initial test shots revealed immediate hook in drier areas, limiting left-side versatility. However, bowlers who prefer a ball that reads the lane confidently, carries through the backend with authority, and rewards modest speed variations will find the Assault’s blend of asymmetric and symmetric characteristics genuinely versatile.

Haven't got it yet but I had the 1st one and it did tremendously great for me can't wait to get it another 300 in the book for me I hope

I drilled my 3 D offset at 45 x 4 ½ x 30. What I got is a ball that gets through the front with ease and continues all the way through the pin deck. I have honestly not “heard” a ball HIT the way this ball does. It destroys the rack even on less than perfect shots. With my lower ball speed I was afraid that this ball would be too strong in the front but the combination of cover and weight block makes this one a “no brainer

I drilled my offset 60x5.5x 35 to give it some moderate length and pop off the spot. But definitely did not expect the type of movement i got. This ball was shocking to say the least. I love the colors of the new 3d. Its a blast from my childhood. Would recommend this for a variety of styles. it is worth the buy.

25 years later a legend is brought back to life! I was a little to young to throw the original but I remember seeing one on every ball return as a kid. Hammer set out to bring back a legend and the nailed it once again. I drilled mine 55x5x30 which is my go to layout. I can’t be happier with the roll of this ball. For me it’s a great compliment to the obsession tour. A little stronger in the mid lane and overall same shape as the obsession tour. If you want something to pick up just a little earlier than your obsession tour but keep you in the same part of the lane look no further than the 3D.

This ball has been the topic of discussion for the last couple weeks at one of my leagues, and looking forward to seeing it going down the lanes. It has brought back many memories, and I know it won't be a disappointment.
