The Hammer Scorpion Low Flare lives up to its name by delivering exactly what low-flare bowling balls are designed for: control and predictability. Built around the Hammer LED 3.0 Low Flare symmetric core with its high 2.47 RG and minimal 0.031 differential, this ball creates very little track flare (2-3 inches), resulting in a motion that’s easy to read and repeat. The Hammer Semtex Hybrid Reactive coverstock provides just enough traction to handle medium oil conditions while maintaining excellent length through the front part of the lane.
The 2000-grit factory finish strikes an ideal balance for this ball’s intended purpose, offering enough surface to read the lane without creating excessive hook. The combination of the low-flare core and hybrid coverstock produces a smooth, arcing motion rather than a sharp backend reaction, making it particularly valuable for spare shooting and situations where control trumps power. The Hammer Scorpion Low Flare is a first ball out of the bag type of piece. You'll want to use this on fresh oil and especially on oil difficult patterns. This is a ball that you will be able to keep in front of you and have a very controllable motion to and thru the pins. It very much reminds me of the original Web Tour that came out several years ago. It has enough motion that it will be good on house shots as well as hard shots. Great all-around ball.
Today's review will focus on the new Hammer Scorpion Low Flare. I was a huge fan of the Web Tour series...especially the Web Tour Hybrid. I particularly liked the slower response those balls offered with the low RG/low differential core...especially on shorter patterns and on a variety of fresh sport patterns where I needed control of the lane. The Hammer Scorpion Low Flare, has a symmetrical low RG/low differential LED 3.0 Low Flare core wrapped by a purple and black Semtex Hybrid cover, I drilled one with a 60 x 5 x 70 layout...the same as my favorite Web Tour Hybrid. I used mine at box surface (2000 Siaair) on fairly fresh THS and on a medium volume 40 foot 4:1 challenge pattern. After throwing the new Scorpion Low Flare, I LOVED it- it was exactly what I was hoping it to be! That unique motion is back in the bag! The Scorpion Low Flare, is definitely a little stronger than the Web Tour Hybrid. The slower response controlled motion is there and that is what I was looking for most of all. Like with the Web Tour Hybrid, I expect this ball to be in play on shorter patterns and actually a variety of fresh sport patterns. I think appropriate surface adjustments will allow this ball to be in play on different volumes of fresh patterns. That being said, I believe this ball is best used on fresh- to blend out and smooth out patterns. In comparison, the Scorpion Low Flare is similar in slower response motion to an Envy Tour but less overall. I cannot wait to use this ball in upcoming events! Hammer Has Come Out With Another Gem Of A Bowling Ball.. As A Fan Of The Other Two Scorpion Bowling Balls This One Fits Well In The Line. This Ball Is Definitely Very Smooth And Predictable.. This Ball Works For Any Type Of Bowler Or Rev Rate Definitely A Very Versatile Ball From All Angles Toward The Pocket.. Bowling At A Higher Friction Based Center Was Able To Play Straight Up The Boards With The Low Flare Swung The Ball Wide Recovered And Even When I Missed Inside With The Oil Still Drove Through The Pins. I Know This Ball Is Gonna Be A Great Transition Ball So Will Make It A Great Option For House Shot Or Medium Length Patterns So Will Be A Great Tournament Bowling Ball Definitely A Bowling Ball That Will Keep You From Getting Into Trouble On The Lanes During Transition. There was no doubt for me that I was going to love this ball. Low diff symmetrical for that smooth controllable motion. I find it to be the perfect fit between the Envy Tour Solid and Purple reactive. It’s the first ball out of my bag to get a read on just what the lanes are doing and most times it’s all I end up throwing
