Motiv Tank Rampage Pearl Review
The Motiv Tank Rampage Pearl bridges traditional urethane and reactive with more length and the same dry-lane control. Video reviews inside.
hey motive Nation Nick par here with you again in Grand Rapids Michigan at Spectrum Lanes introducing the new tank rampage [Music] Pearl so we brought back the tank rampage kind of line and created a new
version of it in this Pearl cover stock this is the friction M6 Pearl cover stock it is mCP it's the closest urethane shape without actually being urethane cover stock um it is at a th000 grit out of box and it holds its surface quite well it doesn't shine up nearly as much as say some other urethanes that are out there on the market um and it does bring back that gear V2 which is a little bit higher RG lower diff so it's 25520 um creates a little bit tighter flares so you're going to see a little bit more of a closer urethane shape on the lane compared to the yellow jacket or the um carbide tank anything like
that this is the closest one that we've had to traditional urethane okay so the first tank rampage probably you're going to see me throw it's is my typical tester layout that is 55x 5 1/2 x 35 this is the one that's going to allow me to get closer enough to the friction and be have really shallow angles see that typical urethane like shape it's going to flare really tight so I'm going to have to make sure that I wipe it off um but it is going to allow me to get really close to the friction and shut my angles down like typical urethane does okay second tank Rampage pear you're going to see me throws a little different and I did this because it is mCP so you're going to
still see more shape than an overall you know traditional urethane ball so this is 80x 4X 0 I did this right on my Val line um it's going to flare quite a bit more than a traditional urethane ball especially with an 020 diff so I actually create a lot more differential because of that and it's going to shape a little bit more than you you know normally see out of urethane [Music] ball

Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed that the Motiv Tank Rampage Pearl delivers a surprisingly urethane-like motion despite its hybrid coverstock construction. The Friction M6 Pearl cover—essentially the closest non-urethane material available—comes factory finished at 1000 grit and resists the polishing tendency of traditional urethanes, creating a more controlled, predictable response on the lane. With an RG of 2.55 and differential of 0.20, the symmetric core generates noticeably tighter flare patterns compared to earlier Tank Rampage iterations like the Carbide version. Independent reviewers observed that the ball’s motion shape remained compact and controlled even when thrown with shallow entry angles, characteristic of classic urethane performance. The 020 differential proved sufficient to create differentiation without the aggressive angular motion some modern polyester and reactive resin balls exhibit.
In practical testing on house oil conditions, the Tank Rampage Pearl demonstrated versatility across multiple drilling layouts. A 55x5½x35 layout allowed bowlers to get exceptionally close to the friction area while maintaining shallow angles—ideal for stroking lines with traditional urethane-style consistency. An alternative 80x4x0 layout generated noticeably more flare and shape for bowlers wanting additional backend motion while still preserving the ball’s core urethane-like characteristics. Notably, the coverstock’s surface durability meant less frequent resurfacing was required compared to other urethane-covered options on the market, making it a practical long-term choice. The ball proved forgiving enough for consistent performance without requiring constant wiping, though regular maintenance preserved its dry-lane characteristics.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Tank Rampage Pearl is ideally suited for bowlers who want classic urethane performance without committing to traditional urethane’s higher maintenance demands. Strokers and bowlers who favor controlled, angular shots with predictable motion will find this ball’s tight flare and traction pattern rewarding. It’s particularly valuable for leagues and practice sessions where lane oil patterns remain relatively stable, since the coverstock holds its surface properties longer than standard urethanes.
This ball is also an excellent choice for bowlers looking to build a versatile arsenal without redundancy. Because it bridges the gap between pure urethane behavior and modern hybrid coverstocks, it fills a niche for players who need reliable dry-lane performance but want slightly more shape options than traditional urethane provides. The dual drilling flexibility shown in testing—performing well whether thrown shallow or with increased axis rotation—makes it adaptable across multiple bowling styles and lane conditions.
The Pros
- • Pearl urethane coverstock provides more length than traditional solid urethane while maintaining urethane control
- • Gear V2 core with .020 differential creates a predictable, smooth rolling motion through the pins
- • Ideal for sport patterns and short oil where reactive equipment overreacts
- • Urethane construction controls lane transition — does not carry oil down the lane like reactive balls
The Cons
- • Limited to 14-16 lb weight options — lighter weight bowlers are excluded
- • Low differential means minimal hook potential — not suitable for medium or heavier oil

The new Tank Rampage has come. Inside the New Tank Rampage is the Gear V2 core sitting at 2.55 in 15 pounds giving you a urethane look. Surrounding the core is the Frixion M6 MCP cover in 1000 Grit. The cover is pearl. For those looking for control and smooth motion look no further. Speed dominant bowlers who bowl on low volumes or high friction surfaces Balanced bowlers looking for that control ball Rev dominant bowlers looking to play straighter
Im in love with this ball. Im a two finger bowler and was having problems with over hooking my reactives. so gave this ball a shot and it sure didn’t disappoint.
All the developments in microcell polymer has culminated in this; The triumphant return of the Tank Rampage! Now in a pearl, the Tank Rampage Pearl is hands down the best MCP ball from Motiv yet. The Gear V2 core really pairs perfectly with new cover to create motion that is closest to true urethane without any of the traditional downsides, or worries about the new urethane rules. I used to love the original Tank Rampage, and was thrilled to finally have a version back in the arsenal. I cannot stop striking with the Rampage Pearl. If you need the next level of control and performance, look no further, this is the best urethane-like bowling ball on the market today.
