Roto Grip Hustle Au Review
While no longer in production, the Hustle Au remains a solid entry-level option on the used market for bowlers transitioning from plastic balls or those who bowl on lighter oil conditions. Its predictable motion and clean length make it forgiving for developing bowlers.
what's going on guys welcome back to the channel my name is LS and on today's video we're going to be reviewing the allnew hustle BR so guys make sure to hit that like button subscribe hit that notification Bell something like 60% of you guys are not subscribed and i' would appreciate it if you just took a second hit that subscribe button if you like the Jersey I'm wearing in this video or in any of my videos cool wick.com promo code napis 10 they get you 10% off your entire order and down below in the description there's going be a link where you can order this order this hustle BR or the ball spinner it's by a company called d lab those links are in
the description and also if you go to howto.com and use my promo code Lewis it gets you 30% off your annual membership so let's talk about the BR it releases alongside the X-ray on April the 19th and so we're going to talk a little bit about the differences and how I think that they can play off one another let's start with the core it's the same core that's in all the hustles which is the hustle core 15 lb is an RG of 2.53 and a Max differential 0030 uh wrapped around that is the VTC hybrid
that comes out of box at that reactor gloss finish so I think that's going to be the big differences right there where this one is a hybrid that comes polished the X-ray is a solid that comes sanded so you're definitely going to be able to play one off the other and I think that's the intent behind releasing both of these at the at the same time when we talk about the layout it's going to be the same layout that I use on all my bowling balls 30X 4 1/2 by 30 and we're going to be here on Lane 64 on a very very very moderately transitioned house
shot let me know Down Below in the comments what is your favorite hustle of all time my personal favorite hustle of all time was the ink and in my opinion there has not been another hustle as good as that one I'm hoping that the X-ray or this BR can go on in that lineage and be the best hustle that we've ever seen we'll see you here on the lanes All right so this is going to be literally the very first shot thrown with this hustle BR y I just got done reviewing the X-ray on this Lane so again very minorly transitioned let's see what this very
first shot of the spot looks like got that right a little bit okay so I got that right and it didn't quite boom as much as I thought it was it was very very smooth actually even though it does have that reactor gloss let's throw another shot from there and I'm already surprised by it cuz I thought it would be way quicker down Lane all right let's go back to that same spot not miss right and see if it still gets there I may have to move
right yeah so it hooks a bunch but it doesn't like jump it's very very round even though it has the Polish it kind of threw me off a little bit so we're going to move left off that and keep it uh in I don't really like shaping I don't like shoving it to the friction with this weak of a core and cover are we going to move like two left I think that this BR y might end up being the stronger one of the two maybe the more Dynamic one of the
two yeah that's that's pretty strong I think however I still prefer the X-ray a little bit earlier a little bit smoother but this BR y it I think it's going to be a really good bank for your buck out hooks its price for sure yeah but the X-ray is closer to that you know all right same spot here let's try to repeat another high quality one yeah that thing hooks man for a $100
ball yeah when I think of bang for your buck this is what I'm looking at right here this is going to be a good one for you guys ah see that's what I wor this is why I don't like moving in with weaker balls like this is because you get into a little puddle of oil and the ball has no chance it almost forces you to play either straight or shove it to the friction all right same spot but we're
going to try to get this one further right I do want to throw a few shots from a little straighter too just to see yeah that I mean that looks good I don't don't love creating those super large angles through the fronts but we'll just keep throwing a few shots from there until that goes away all right let's see if I can repeat that get it to the right get it to the friction Miss left by a
mile yeah I I'm not good at shoving it right at Testament by that 2810 so let's just actually let's just move right to a more comfortable spot on the lane I like all right so we're going to move right just to see look guys if I was good at standing left and shoving it right I think this F would look amazing for me I'm just not good at doing that so we're going to get to a spot on the lane that I'm good at and see what this looks [Music]
like frustrating all right so that straight shot's never going to never going to carry let's move way left and slow hook it and see what this looks like okay that I think I can repeat so let's do a couple more with that all right let's see if we can't repeat that shot let's see let's see let's
see see it oh yeah yeah I like that I don't love it from straighter in fact at all and I think I still prefer the X-ray but if I got to get left and kind of slow hook it like that I think it looks pretty good from there all right see if we can do it three times in a row now let's make a high quality shot here okay that's good from there that's
good Chris that's good yeah all right hustle BR y slow hook really good from straight not so much [Music] oh I got that slow or I got sorry I got that fast and it had no chance it was close whatever throw one more from left and then wrap it up all right this will be the last shot here of the video the last shot I threw was a little fast so we're going to slow
down a little bit Jordan this one's for you bro [Music] good good shot to end the video to summarize the hustle BR y I still prefer the X-ray I think the X-ray is a better ball for me in my game however if the lanes call for me to move in like this and shape it I would I I'd prefer the BR over the X-ray so there're two balls that are going to be used in two different ways two different situations
and uh I hope you guys love these balls when they release on April the 19th
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Roto Grip Hustle AU delivers smooth, predictable motion on moderately transitioned house conditions despite its polished reactive pearl coverstock. On the test pattern, the ball exhibited a rounded hook response rather than an aggressive angular motion—a characteristic that surprised independent reviewers who anticipated quicker length from the glossy finish. The symmetric core (RG 2.53, differential .0030) paired with the reactive pearl produced dependable recovery in the mid-lane, though the ball’s overall strength suggested it benefits from strategic positioning rather than extreme angles through the front end. When tested from steeper angles or in oil-heavy conditions, the weaker core limited aggression, forcing a more direct line of play. Comparatively, reviewers noted this ball sits between entry-level performance and mid-range dynamics, delivering solid hook potential for its price point while maintaining the control characteristics that define the Hustle lineup.
Performance improved noticeably when testers adjusted their approach, moving deeper on the lane to execute slower, more controlled deliveries. From these angles, the Hustle AU produced repeatable, consistent ball motion with good pin action. Surface considerations matter with this coverstock—the out-of-box polished finish generated the observed motion characteristics, and reviewers indicated that minor surface adjustments could shift its usable window on different oil patterns. The ball proved most effective for bowlers who can manage its backend reaction deliberately rather than those seeking aggressive, early-hook designs. On dry to moderately oiled conditions, the pearl coverstock engaged the lane appropriately without forcing bowlers into uncomfortable hand positions or erratic trajectory patterns.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Hustle AU is well-suited for bowlers seeking a budget-conscious option that doesn’t sacrifice performance—recreational and competitive players working with moderate house shots will find genuine value. Bowlers who prefer controlled, repeatable motion over dramatic angular reactions, and those comfortable playing from deeper positions on the lane, will get the most from this ball’s characteristics. It serves as an effective complement to stronger equipment in a bowler’s arsenal, filling the role of a second or third ball for varying oil patterns without requiring significant investment.
This ball appeals to players still developing their game who need equipment that rewards consistent technique without punishing minor execution errors. The symmetric core’s forgiving nature and the reactive pearl’s predictable engagement make it accessible for intermediate bowlers while offering enough length and backend response to remain useful as skills progress. It’s less ideal for bowlers who need immediate, aggressive hook or those preferring to play extreme angles consistently.
The Pros
- • Excellent length through front part of lane
- • Predictable ball motion for entry-level bowlers
- • Clean pearl coverstock easy to maintain
The Cons
- • Limited hook potential on medium-heavy oil
- • Low differential provides minimal track flare

Bowlers Say
Bowlers say the Hustle Au provides excellent length through the front part of the lane with smooth, predictable backend motion, making it ideal for dry lanes or when lanes break down. The pearl coverstock allows speed-dominant players to stay right on medium oil and gives rev-dominant bowlers control on lighter conditions without over/under reaction.

Round Holes No Grips Proshop ? Ball Review Ball: Rotogrip Hustle Au Layout: 5x4x1 Surface: Box Finish Lane Condition: THS mediumvolume Tester: Andrew Average: 230 When this one showed up on the new release list, I couldn't wait to drill it up. I immediately loved the Hustle HYB. The Hustle HYB provided so much bang for the buck. I expected nothing less from the Hustle Au. I punched mine up 5x4x1 and left it box finish which is unusual for me. I typically alter the surface of every polished ball before I throw it. I've already put about 40 games on the ball in the last 3 weeks in practice, leagues and tournaments. I thought with this layout that I might run into some uncontrollable motion down lane, but I haven't seen that motion yet. The Hustle Au is strong off the friction but gets up the lane well. It lets me stay alittle further right when the lanes are hooking without jerking the moment it encounters friction. I would definitely recommend the Hustle Au as the ball for lighter oil chose for speed dominant players and a great medium oil choice for slower speed or rev dominant players. I'll be posting a video to our YouTube account soon. Youtube/Facebook: Round Holes No Grips Proshop Andrew Groves Rotogrip Advisory Staff
Once again go to love the hustle line. This ball really gets through the heads for me which is great on dry lane conditions. Nice shape on the backend and retains enough energy to get through the pins with authority. For the money its a steal. Great ball to have in the bag.
Roto Grip Hustle AU Coverstock:VTC-P18:tm: Weight Block: Hustle:tm: Core Factory Finish: 1500-grit Polished Radius of Gyration: 2.53 Differential: 0.030 With the release of 3 new Hustle's, 1 hybrid and 2 pearls, I figured a comparison between these and the Hustle INK would be the best way to review them. The Hustle AU is a my favorite color scheme of all of the Hustles. Great looking ball and once again has packed a lot of performance in a low price point ball. The price point would make a buyer assume it is a light oil piece but if you are looking for that, look towards the Storm Tropical Surge. The Hustle AU will be as much on a typical house shot as it will be on lighter oil. If I were using my Hustle-only lineup for a THS league, the AU will fit right between my INK and 3TP. The 3TP gets length with ease and gives an angular, but predictable, turn when it hits the friction. I drilled mine to move a touch earlier than my 3TP. Since those two balls are so similar, I went with different layouts to see the different shapes this ball can create. My Hustle-only arsenal was built as follows: HSB early/strongest/smooth INK long/strong/smooth AU long/medium/slightly more angle than above 3TP longest/medium/most angle of the group ****AU and 3TP left at box finish, drilled differently***
The Hustle AU is a great addition to the Hustle line. Gives you more length than the other Hustles and with the layout I used 5 x 3.5 x 30 the AU keeps me out of trouble when the lanes breakdown and other balls are too strong in my lineup. If you're looking for a low end ball to add to your bag this is a great choice! Available at your local pro shop.
Cover: VTC-H18:tm: Pearl Reactive Weightblock: Hustle:tm: Core (Symmetrical) Finish: 1500 Polished RG: 2.53 Differential: 0.030 Me: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin Up and Right of Ring 65 X 4 1/8 X 35 The New Hustle AU gives a unique motion in the HP1 line. The Polished Pearl version of the VTC-P18:tm: cover is further affected by the chosen 2 tone gold color to create a smoother back-end motion in a somewhat cleaner version of this ball. The Hustle Ink despite its solid cover was a very clean ball that was quick off the spot. It created great angle into the pins and was one of the most versatile balls on the market. The AU is much smoother and a touch earlier despite its pearl cover. This ball is amazing at smoothing out difficult lane patterns. It is clean enough to get through burned up lane heads but gives you enough mid-lane motion to avoid excessive carrydown. This ball is a must have to tournament patterns and high friction house shots.
