The addition of AI technology and an updated cover to the original catalyst core gives you the 2026 Storm Alpha Crux. The GI-26 Solid cover will handle the advancements made to lane conditioners the way the the EGI-16 cover did. Same amazing performance on today's lanes that made the original Alpha the beast it was back in the day. I tested the Alpha Crux on a broken down lane in my home center. I'll mention I was skeptical of how much this ball would roll the the OG with the AI addition and the updated cover. That was a big factor in choosing to test this ball when I did rather than waiting for a fresh lane. I had great success throwing the 2016 Alpha when I had to get left but needed a ball strong enough to still dig out. It was one of my favorite balls for instance if I had to throw it over the left gutter. This test made a believer out of me. I immediately saw the early friction throwing a test shot around 3rd arrow. I tried a little loft but needed to really back the hand out of it to push it through the front in that zone. I transitioned left and once I got around 4th-5th arrow I found that familiar reaction and enjoyed watching the ball peel back and scatter pins. The Alpha is obviously most useful when the lanes are fresh but I've had plenty of balls that work there. The Alpha has a home in every zone at some point and it's strong versatility still shows through. This ball will be popular with many bowlers. It's a great first ball out on heavy oil or for rev-challenged bowlers and a great ball of overpowering the lanes on basically any condition. This is a ball I could easily see tournament bowlers drilling multiples of to accommodate multiple layouts and surface preparations. Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 x 2 1/2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 RPM Tilt: 13* The Alpha Crux is brought back but powered with AI core technology and an updated coverstock for today's oil environment. The Catalyst core is back from the original but now with AI technology. This helps the hitting power increase while keeping the RG and differentials of 15-16lbs with similar specs. The core is combined with the new GI-26 coverstock which is an enhancement of the original GI-16 coverstock. Still designed for heavier oil environments, the Alpha Crux will roll the best in fresh oil conditions as well as high oil volumes. I was able to test this on a fresh 43ft typical house pattern. In this particular center, I try to play around 12 to 7 on the fresh to give me the most success. The Alpha Crux was too strong in this particular spot as it read pretty early and went high due to its strength. I moved in to about 15 to 7-9 and I got into the pocket with ease. As long as I got the ball a little more up the lane, it went through the pins very well. The smoothness of this ball makes shallow angles shine. If I got the ball to 5, it either saw the friction too early or was too lazy off of it leaving a flat 10 pin in most instances. As I moved in, I needed to create more rotation for the ball to come around the corner enough to strike. Like many other high-performance solids, this ball will have limitations opening up the lane in most environments. Bringing up the surface to 4000 grit or adding Power Edge will help the ball retain more energy for higher friction surfaces and lower volumes. Compared to the Equinox Solid, the Alpha Crux was overall stronger and was actually more continuous. The Alpha Crux struck where the Equinox Solid had a little trouble hooking enough. The Alpha Crux was about 3 and 2 stronger overall. I recommend this ball to someone who wants a high-end ball for higher oil volumes or who bowls on patterns who don't have as high of a rev rate and like to play straighter up the lane. Storm Alpha Crux 5x4x2. I never had the original Alpha Crux so I was pretty excited to throw this one. I have been very happy with the newer Storm asym solids because their core/cover combos have made them more continuous down lane while still reading early enough. I used to struggle a lot with energy retention throwing stronger covers in the past because of how rolly they are. Alpha has absolutely no trouble finding its way back to the pocket from just about everywhere without losing energy. It also responds well to release changes which is a good sign for me because I can see myself potentially staying in this ball longer especially on higher volumes. Right Hand - 15.5 mph down lane, 335 +/-, PAP 4.75, 1/2 up, layout is 4x4x2. I have only bowled a house shot at Bowlero Edmond, OK. The new Storm Alpha Crux seems to live up to the hype and brings back one of the most beloved names in Storm's lineup. Designed for heavier oil conditions, the Alpha Crux combines the proven Catalyst A.I. Core with the new GI-26 Solid Reactive coverstock. It creates a strong, predictable motion that reads the mid-lane exceptionally well and continues hard through the pins. On the house shot, the Alpha Crux didn’t overreact off friction; instead, it created a smooth, powerful shape that works great on the fresh . I think the strong mid-lane will make it ideal for league bowlers and tournament players and I feel it will be a reliable ball to start a block or utilize on heavier volume patterns. Even on missed shots, the ball seemed to maintain energy and drive through the deck. I believe it is a great option for players who prefer a strong asymmetrical ball that doesn't quit down-lane. The ball also does well against lane shine. However, I feel this is a first ball out of the bag but could see it be too much ball for house shots that tend to player dry, especially for higher-rev or speed/rev matched bowlers. I do plan on adding Power Edge to the ball to see what motion it will create. I will reported back on that process soon. If you are looking for exceptional traction in heavy oil with strong predictable midline motion with great continuation, this is the ball for you! For those who loved the original Alpha Crux, or never got the chance to throw it, now is your opportunity to see what you were missing. My Specs: Speed: (13-15 mph), Approx Rev Rt: (280-320), PAP: 4.5 right x ½ up, Tilt: 4° the layout I went with for the Alpha Crux is 5x3.75x2.25. Tested on Pro-lane surface with a fresh 43 ft medium volume house shot and on SPL bed 42 ft medium\light volume house shot. After dropping down to 14# due to a shoulder injury I needed another aggressive solid asym so just as I was about to buy another Ion Max (I love my 15# Ion Max, just can’t roll it now) the Alpha Crux was re-released, only this time wrapped in AI. So far, I am not disappointed. THIS BALL HOOKS! On the Pro-Lane panels I roll on where the Equinox Solid has some trouble digging in, the Alpha shows its teeth and plows right through the head oil with no issues at all. It glides through the midlane and saves plenty of power at the pin deck to clear all 10 with ease. Now with my ball speed being only in that 13-14 range I do come out of the Alpha somewhere in game 2 on the house shot, I just simply don’t have the hand to swing this ball past 20 out to 5. That is no way a problem with the ball though, just my game as it is now. On the SPL lanes I tested on though, the Alpha was just simply too much ball for me to roll. It reved up quick and was dead at 30ft hitting very flat at the pins. Again, this is not an issue with the ball, but rather an indicator that Alpha may not be the best choice on dryer, higher friction lane beds if you can’t roll faster than 14 mph. In summary, the Alpha Crux, for me, is a great starting piece on lower friction medium to heavy oil patterns, and probably on the higher friction panels as well with heavier volume patterns I just have not had the chance to get it out there on those conditions yet. The ball reaction that the original Alpha Crux created is one that is constantly desired – strong enough to handle almost any oil condition, yet still maintaining a defined down-lane motion. Bringing this ball back with AI technology added is just a no-brainer, as that familiar reaction is welcomed back as soon as you throw the first ball. It does roll fairly early with it's out of the box finish, but that does not hinder the downlane continuation whatsoever (as long as there is enough head oil). This is my top-of-the-bag ball, with the Bionic being the go-to ball when the Alpha Crux AI starts to be too much.

The Alpha Crux has completely changed my game. Strong backend reaction on heavy oil, hits the pocket hard every time. The Catalyst A1 core gives it a very controllable arc. My average has gone up since switching to this ball. 100% worth the price.

When I heard they were remaking the Alpha Crux now with the AI Core, I almost fell over. It is my second favorite ball right behind the Storm Lucid. The original Alpha Crux saved my butt at the USBC Open Championships when it was in Syracuse. I used it the entire event and just had to add a bit of surface for the minor events that year. This new Alpha Crux has a very similar motion as my original with the only difference being the harder it hits going through the pins. This has definitely earned a spot in my tournament bag.

I've been throwing the Storm Alpha Crux drilled 5 x 4 x 4, and I like it very much. The layout gives me a strong, smooth read in the midlane with a powerful but predictable backend motion. It handles heavier oil really well and continues through the pins with excellent hitting power. It's quickly become one of my favorite bowling balls because it gives me confidence on fresh conditions and carries consistently.

Happy release (again) for the Storm Alpha Crux! This ball is an upgraded version of the original to handIe today's demanding heavy oil conditions. I tested this ball on a fresh 50 ft PBA Badger Pattern and this surpassed my expectations. Being a lower rev guy, this ball was able to pickup early and keep it's continuation.
