Storm Virtual Energy Blackout Review

The newest Signature line ball brings us to a blast from the past. The Virtual Energy was a iconic ball from Storm and the new Virtual Gravity Blackout brings back to us the Shape Lock HD core. The Blackout has the recently popular REX pearl cover. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and WOW does this ball backend. I feel like the black color and Rex really blend well together going back with the Dark Code. The Blackout reminds me of a stronger version of the Dark Code but is a touch more mid lane than the Dark Code was. It almost reminds me of an blend of an Infinite Physix and Dark Code. I was really able to open up the lane with the Blackout and create a lot of down lane motion with it. I can defiantly see this ball being used on some beat up longer patterns and for anyone who wants to an asymmetrical ball with a lot of backend on house shot conditions.

Out of Box ball motion was clean though the fronts with a strong continuous backend. I compared this to the Storm Fate and Absolute. Fate was a few boards weaker with a smooth backend motion. Absolute has a similar line but was a little weaker on the backend. The Blackout is good for all types of styles. Layout: 40 x 5 x 35 Surface: Reacta Gloss The original Shape Lock HD core is brought back from the original Virtual Energy using the REX Pearl Coverstock and finished with Reacta Gloss. This is a asymmetrical pearl shape that has been missing in the line for a little bit of time. The Core allows this ball to read the midlane strong and the coverstock gives that length and angle that Storm is known for. I got to try this ball on a typical house pattern and the 40ft PBA Don Johnson Pattern. My typical house pattern is 44ft with medium volume. I tend to use an Infinite Physix with Reacta Shine as my go to ball on the fresh. The Virtual Energy Blackout gives me a slighty cleaner front with a much more angular backend. The two balls give me a 1-2 punch as the Infinite Physix is overall smoother and is much more forward rolling at the breakend. The VEB allows me to move further left with my feet and open the lane up much more due to its outstanding backend motion. I prefer the ball to be my first transtion ball due to my higher rev rate style but it can certainly be used for the fresh if your ball speed is soft and you like to open the lanes up on the oil. The continuation of the VEB is what makes this ball special. I get a really strong continuous yet angular motion which is the type of ball motion I prefer to see. On the 40ft Don Johnson Pattern, I saw a lot of continuation very similarly to the house pattern. Like the house pattern, the VEB for me prefers a little bit of breakdown and transition to be most successful. Compared to a DNA, I saw cleaner through the front and midlane and stronger backend. When the DNA got too slow down lane, I was able to jump right to the VEB and open the lanes up really well. The higher responsive cover gave me a strong left to right motion that the DNA could not give. Due to the polished finish of the VEB, it was hard to use on the fresh due to the high amount of oil volume. Since the core is so strong on this ball, you can add surface to the coverstock and use it more when the lanes are fresh. I do feel like the DNA or Summit would be a better utilized ball for the fresh compared to the VEB. Adam Chase Storm Staff

The clean cover does require some friction for this ball to really shine. This ball is super clean through the front of the lane and reads the back end extremely well.

One the lanes, I found the reacta gloss finish allowed the ball motion to be a little longer and a little too sharp in the backend for me and the lane surface and pattern I bowl on in my scratch league. I took to the pro shop and changed the cover with the all new rough cut then used the all new smooth cut, and that was the key to me being able to play straighter and project the ball right between the tracer boards down lane and giving me the most carry throughout my games and practice. The Blackout fits between my 900 Global Eternity Pi and my Roto Grip Exotic GEM when it comes to overall length and backend strength and angle into the pocket. I was able to produce more strikes and 9 counts through fresh and then into the transition then the 2 prior balls mentioned. The Virtual Energy Blackout has been a HUGE success also in the Matchmaker events I have a part of. When I saw this ball coming out, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Anything with the REX cover on it has never let me down and I have never thrown the Virtual Energy and I am very excited to throw a pearl Virtual Gravity ball. Storm Virtual Energy Blackout Layout 5 x 4 x 2.5 Style – stroker Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins Condition – house pattern - older HPL surface Surface – box condition I’ve had success with the REX cover previously and was really looking forward to this release. The Night Road has been a favorite in my bag for a while now. To get the cover/color combination of that ball with a much bigger engine was going to be a win/win for me. The ball has no issues getting around the corner, but it’s still controllable. With slower ball speed, balls that tend to make big moves at the end of the pattern are harder for me to use. The initial results prove this ball will get a lot more use than expected. Dark Code and Code Black were both hit and miss for me. The Blackout seems like it will provide more versatility for my style of bowling. Compared to the Roto Exotic Gem, the Blackout is much more continuous through the pins. The Exotic would get forward for me once making its move at the breakpoint. I can’t see any style of bowling that this ball doesn’t potentially help. If you’re looking to add a stronger asymmetric to your bag that provides versatility, I’d highly recommend the Blackout.

In 14 pounds this ball is wrapped in REX Pearl Cover and comes with a Reacta Gloss finish and an RG of 2.53, Diff of .050, and a PSA of .011. Another Storm ball that I love! To start off with, lets say the Code Black. The Blackout, for me definitely has more back end than the Code Black. That makes this ball a lot more enjoyable. This ball reads the lane very well. If you watch the ball mid lane, it will tell you when to make a move a little deeper, or more towards the gutter. Then the back end...for me, its not like a hockey stick hook. Normally I hit a ball, (this ball had the Reacta Gloss Factory Finish) with a 3000-4000 pad. This I have not yet. I like it, I like it out of the box. It's a fun ball for sure and its BLACK! If I had to one word this ball....It's "comfortable" Very comfortable ball to have in my hand, and always in my bag!

The Blackout is the newest big asym to feature the REX Pearl cover. This cover has quickly become a staple in the storm family becasue of its unique ability to create midlane traction and backend motion. In this iteration, the cover feels cleaner and more responsive than the previous asym balls that featured this cover. On the lanes, this ball is the perfect first ball out of the bag. Its clean and quick enough to get the ten out, but strong enough that you can throw it on the fresh and still get it to pick up. This is gonna be one of the best balls of the year. If anyone knows how to do big pearl asyms, it's Storm!

As a reminder ReX is a combination of two previous covers, R2S and NeX. This blend provides more skid/flip type reactions for the player and allows the ball driller to be creative in what can be achieved from a drilling perspective. For your medium medium/dry conditions the Virtual Energy Blackout is your answer. What has impressed me the most with this ball is that for a glossy finish that in general will provide sharper reactions the Virtual Energy Blackout is not overly skid/flippy where control is sacrificed. The ReX cover appears to blend this ball out nicely. I do prefer slightly scuffing my Reacta Gloss pieces and for this one I used a worn 3K Abralon pad. This slight modification worked out nicely on the Virtual Energy Blackout. As noted above, the Virtual Energy Blackout will shine in medium to medium/dry conditions. To bring to light a similar ball for Storm, the Dark Code quickly comes to mind. If you enjoyed the Dark Code, you will want to consider adding the Virtual Energy Blackout to your bag. For me, the Virtual Energy Blackout is much more balanced and does not "lock-up" for me like the Dark Code could do at times. The Blackout has the same ReX Pearl cover as the Fate which has been one of my favorite transition balls. I can see the Blackout fitting in the same slot, but with more “orange pop” in the back because of the asymmetric core. The Blackout gave me a good look sliding on 28, looking 17 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 8-9. I was able to move left as the lanes broke down and the Blackout had no trouble making the corner.. The Fate was earlier and rounder than the Blackout, but was very close in overall hook potential. After the big solid asymmetric balls start to burn up, the Blackout will be an excellent step down without sacrificing down lane strength.

The Storm Virtual Energy Blackout is a blast from the past! The layout is 4 x 4 x 1.5 puts the pin above my ring finger and high up about 1.5 above the finger so with that it gives more length with more angle on the back end. With the classic HD weightblock and a modern day coverstock it reminds me a lot of the original virtual gravity. I went back and looked at a old video I posted on YouTube of the OG Virtual Energy and ball motion wise it is very close to each other. The VE Blackout is a great league ball to start on the fresh on a typically house shot. With me being left handed I can almost use it all 3 games depending on the lanes and if there are any other lefties. Typical league night I am standing 24-25, getting it to 2nd arrow and 7-8 at breakpoint. Once the lanes start to change and still wanna stay in the VE Blackout then would move 4 boards right getting it to 13-14 board at the arrows and 10-11 at the breakpoint to keep it tight. If I get it outside 7-8 then it will hit the dry and nose dive which leads to anything is possible lol. Once I see that within 2 shots at that point I will make a ball change. I bought this ball without much expectation and especially in connection with the general madness of seeing this product again on the lanes. At the beginning, I was really not exited about the ball reaction that I'm saw. With the oob surface, for me it was really not controllable and I really disliked. After change the surface with a handled 1000 pad, the reaction completely changed for a great strong smooth react. I played a full 5 games 44 feet pattern tournament just with opened my angle more and more and the ball continued to give me a good rounded mid-lane reaction and a big hit at the enter's triangle. So the virtual energy passed from a ball that I'm thinked that I would totaly not used to a ball that follow me on my bag tournament. So, surface changes make sometimes all difference according to our style. #stormnation

The Blackout has the ReX Pearl Reactive cover found on the discontinued Infinite Physix. The Infinite was much more round and was really good on medium length patterns for me. I can’t imagine throwing this Blackout on medium patterns as it revs up and reads the back part of the pattern very well. The Blackout is easily 5-7 more than my favorite shiny symmetrical IQ Tour Ruby with a similar layout. The Blackout is a great option for those bowlers needing a bit more hook, as well as bowlers that love to open the lane up. The virtual energy blackout was the shape I sought on house conditions. It is extremely clean through the fronts with an aggressive backend motion. Next, it’s an all-black bowling ball… I am not for sure about the science behind it, but black balls simply strike more! I also have used this ball when I need to get left on tougher conditions when the fronts are hooking too early. I will be using this ball quite a lot, and think you should give it a chance!

The Virtual Energy Blackout is a sharp, elegant new pearl asym that features the ReX cover with the Shape Lock HD core. This ball provides a clean motion through the front part of the lane as well as a dependable reaction as it exits the pattern. I find this ball extremely useful for when the pattern stretches out due to urethane usage and I need a ball that can clear the fronts but still chew through the oil down lane. I put a 5x4x3 layout on the Virtual Energy Blackout and it is exactly what I was looking for. For me, this ball is a nice step down when the Reality starts to become too early.

I’ve had the first versions of Rex Pearl a little too responsive to friction and allergic to oil but this blend of Rex Pearl is perfect! The VEBO is going to be in my bag a long time! I love using this ball on a super cliff cause I can gear my miss to tug and it has enough teeth to handle the oil and still roll and tip.

This is a gift for my 13 year old grandson. This is the ball he requested for his birthday. I'm sure it will be exactly what he wants.

The new release in the Storm signature line is the Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO). I also agree with a lot of staffers, most if not all black bowling balls are very good! The VEBO is no different, it has been a huge hit for Storm. The VEBO features the Shape-lock HD core with the new REX Pearl coverstock. I drilled mine with 4 inch pin up. (4 x 5 x 2 ). I did change the surface to Storm Step 2. Honestly not a big fan of the Reacta Gloss. I used the VEBO on 42ft house shot and on a couple Sport patterns. The VEBO is very clean and angular downlane. I have drilled a few at the shop for a low rev down and in guy and he absolutely loves it, it gives him the backend from the VEBO which he needs to help to get the ten out. For the 2 handers it gives them a large amount of miss room! Very hard for them to throw it through the breakpoint. Which is a good feeling knowing they can still throw it hard and still get it back. To compare it to my dark code with same drilling, the VEBO is cleaner and much sharper on the back and higher response to friction. Where the Dark Code is more rounded. If your wanting a stand left and throw right and strike a lot the VEBO is your ball! Going to be a huge seller for Storm! The Virtual Energy Blackout is a new asymmetric ball in Storm’s Premiere line. It features the popular and high use ReX Pearl coverstock, which is a blend of their ultra strong NeX formula and their flagship clean, responsive, and controllable R2S formula. The core is the famed Shape Lock HD core from the previous Virtual and Gravity line releases, which comes in at a 2.48 RG, a .052 differential, and a .020 intermediate differential. The Blackout reminds me instantly of the Dark Code, just longer and sharper. Same cover, even same color, the core in the Blackout is just slightly weaker. I’ve used the Blackout on several different conditions with a couple different surfaces. The factory gloss is too inconsistent and sensitive for me, so I resurfaced it down to 1000 on a resurfacing machine, then finished it lightly with Storm’s Step 2 compound. The result was a surprisingly long and quick, round, continuous finish on the backend. I’ve mentioned before that this core creates a surprisingly long and sharp motion for how strong it is on paper. The closest comparison for me is that it feels like an asymmetric Zen Gold Label. Very clean and easy up front, almost worryingly so, before it covers more ground on the backend than 95% of the balls I’ve ever thrown. It’s also remarkably controllable and consistent for how clean and sharp it is. The stronger cover formula maintains a subtle amount of traction and stability through the oil, and the rounder and more continuous shape makes the pocket bigger as well. It’s incredibly versatile from left to right, it gives lower rev bowlers punch down lane they don’t usually have without forcing them deeper on the lane, and it gives higher rev bowlers length and control they don’t usually see out of stronger and more responsive balls like this. With shine it can reach down to be at home on regular league conditions, but with a little surface it can hold its own on heavier conditions, and is a great step up from something like an Absolute for when you want a similar shape, but need more strength or traction.

Storm Virtual Energy Blackout ball review Vls 5 1/4 x 4 x 2 1/2 This ball was one I was excited to get my hands on. Starting with the Shape Lock HD core, I expected it to be a shape I would like. With the Rex Pearl reactive cover and Reacta gloss finish, it's very clean through the front of the lane but sharp off the spot. In the houses with too much friction to start with a solid, this ball has been seriously good. Gives me enough angle to carry all night. When I opened my angles in the fronts, I did not see or lose carry. As always, hand position changes presented a slightly different shape down lane for me. I still haven’t clicked with this ball, have less than a game on it, but I’ve heard box finish can be rough with some bowlers. Currently, the reaction has been inconsistent and I think if I knock the box finish off then build it back up with a 2,000 or 3,000 grit and a different polish (did similar with my P5 and we’ve clicked since) and I think this will be a monster ball in my arsenal.

Virtual Energy blackout has been a super good ball for me on fresh patterns. While this ball responds well to friction i find it working equally as well when the lanes begin to transition. The Energy the ball retains is super predictable. It sees the spot well and doesnt over or under hook, just a super easy motion to read. I would for sure recommend this ball to anyone looking for a out of bag go to option. Since the reaction on this ball is super predictable its easy to adjust based on how the reaction is treating you.

I drilled this ball exactly like my dark code, 4x4x2 and I see this being more continuous and more angular than my dark code. I like that this gives me more length than the dark code and a similar shape to the code black.

I was so excited when Storm announced this ball. I never got the chance to throw a Virtual Energy but I did really like the Dark Code which has the same ReX Coverstock. I decided to drill this ball 4x3.5x1 since I throw 14lbs and balls tend to get down lane easier than the 15lb counterparts for me. I wasn't disappointed at all. With the ReX Coverstock the Virtual Energy Blackout really gives me a sharp backend angle once the lanes open up to help carry the corners out. On a typical league night I start with a Storm Summit and once the front of the lane fries out, I switch to the Blackout. I would not recommend this ball for heavy long oil patterns until the heads burn out or if you are bowling on a high friction surface. My normal house shot is 44ft on a brand new synthetic surface. This is another homerun from Storm Bowling.

Even though this is long and has a strong backend the Blackout is very predictable and controllable. The backend is not a check mark but more rounded of the spot and then turns into a strong rollie finish. This is something I haven't had, and it seems to help throw the pins around quite a bit. I believe that the Blackout is a ball that you can get to the outside with to start the night with and migrate to the middle or jump into the middle without sacrificing ball motion or carry. I also think with dryer patterns this may be a little too much and will lose its predictability and control. The Blackout has a low RG value of 2.48 a medium differential of 0.052 and a high intermediate differential of 0.020. Storm combined the ever so popular Shape Lock HD Core with the Reactor Extreme (REX) Coverstock. The REX coverstock is the combination of the NEX coverstock that we have seen in a numerous amount of releases such as the Storm Super Nova and Proton Phyisics and the R2S coverstock that we have seen on the Astro Physics and Hyroad Pearl. As per the Shape Lock HD core, this core we have seen in the Virtual Gravity line which creates a fast revving reaction that helps bowlers of all types looking for a stronger change of direction on the backend. The high density core lowers the RG and raises the differential which creates more flare potential. I did a ball comparison to the Storm Dark Code and the 900 Global Zen Gold Label at 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil. The layout chosen 55 x 5 x 35. 3000 Grit used for review. In comparison to the Storm Dark Code, the Dark Code starts up a tad quicker because its pin down but the Blackout is sharper on the backend due to having a stronger weight block and being pin up. In addition, the Dark Code has a RG of 2.50 with a differential of 0.058 verses the Blackout having a RG of 2.48 and differential of 0.052 which in theory is not much of a disparity per the RG’s but the differential which is your backend motion is a decent amount. In comparison to the 900 Global Zen Gold Label, The Blackout goes longer and is pinch sharper due the core being asymmetric, but the ZGL starts up quicker and has better traction in the oil. These two balls can be a one two punch in the bag on the transition/burn on a sport pattern or for game 2 and 3 of league. As per the surface adjustments, the Blackout’s box surface is Reacta Gloss which is 500>2,000>4000, reacta gloss which will go really long but will be great on the medium to dry conditions. For me, I put on a 3000 over the reacta Gloss to give the ball a matte finish which rounds off the ball on the backend so its not as sharp off the spot and blends out the pattern. I drilled up my VIRTUAL ENERGY BLACKOUT with a 4 x 2 x 3.5 layout. This put the pin in my ring finger. This is a layout I prefer when I need to blend patterns that have became wet/dry and my bigger balls are standing up too soon and shiny options are too long off the pattern. In essence, this is my version of a pin under layout with a weight hole down. I slightly have glazed the cover with a 3000 CTD pad which is almost like 2000 SiaAir pads. I have put this up against my EXOTIC GEM, CLONE, & ZEN GOLD LABEL which are a couple of my shinier choices for most medium/slightly wetter conditions. The BLACKOUT did exactly what I needed in that it can hug the oil line much easier than the EXOTIC GEM and CLONE. My GOLD LABEL was the same length thru the fronts but a slower move in the back compared to the VE BLACKOUT and was weaker hitting. It could also blow thru the backend and miss the headpin right completely. On slightly slicker patterns, the CLONE and EXOTIC GEM were slightly better looks. I did get the impression that I could hit the VIRTUAL ENERGY BLACKOUT with a 1000 pad and get a much earlier read to put it on par with those quicker reading shiny balls. One thing with this layout was I had to keep my speed up or the ball would get forward too quickly and stop. Drill this one up if you want something to have when you encounter your first transition from slightly slicker to more medium slick. Also don't be afraid to hit it with surface to get it to read quicker if you are leaving flat corner pins.

My initial impression of the virtual energy blackout is that this ball is so much fun to throw! I drilled mine 70 x 5 1/4 x 35. Fresh off the press I took it out on a 41 foot 28 mL house shot. Everyone knows solid black balls typically step up to the plate performance wise and this one is no exception. Performance wise, it glided easily down the lane, and when it made its move, it was a strong continuous arc through the pin deck. The Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) is the newest asymmetric pearl in SPI's lineup. I drilled my VEBO 5x4x3.5 to keep the ball clean through the heads and mid part of the lane and create a strong but rounded shape off the back. Black Out……Pearl Asymmetrical…yes I like.. The Shapelock core is back and ooh yeah wrapped in the rex pearl coverstock. How can this be bad. Drilled mine with the go to 5x4x4..This ball is clean in the fronts reads the midlane well not aggressive and for me is pretty continuous and smooth in the back end. This ball has been great in league for me. Easy to migrate left with the break down and still carry as the ball retains so much energy for downlane

This ball does look good going down the lanes! Went front 8- 278, 751 out of box with it...But once it gets some lane shine.. it does become too clean! So knocking off the shine should be in consideration.

The core in the Virtual Energy is slightly stronger than the core featured in the Physix line so I decided to drill it to a little weaker than Infinite Physix. The Infinite Physix is clean but smoother off the dry for me than the Virtual Energy. The Blackout is noticeably a few feet longer and quicker off the dry than the Infinite Physix. I am not a fan of the Reacta Gloss polish with my lower rev rate so I changed the surface to 2000 abralon. I use 1000 on the Infinite Physix and having the added length on the Virtual Energy I didn’t want the two to be the same. I’m able to use the Infinite when the patterns are fresher and then as they change I can use the Virtual Energy and not have to ball down. Layout: 45 x 4 ½ x 35 From the previous releases that the NEX coverstock was featured on, it has shown itself to have a massive amount of traction, and that is no different on the Virtual Energy Blackout (Vebo). Even with the out-of-box shine, the Vebo has a smooth reaction that can handle a good bit of oil. I have seen this ball have a slightly flippier reaction for others, but for myself it is strictly smooth arcing. It is best at home on medium-heavy to medium oil conditions. The Vebo fits perfectly between the stronger sanded balls such as the Summit or Absolute Power, and the weaker symmetric-cored balls such as a Journey or TNT Infused.

The VG Blackout it such a strong, sharp ball and goes through the pins so well. This ball is one of the strongest pearl balls, I have ever thrown, and be thrown on multiple patterns. When the lanes start to break down, and you need to start moving left is really when this ball shines. This is my favorite ball to use when I have to get inside and loop it, because is it so strong off the friction but also will pick up in the middle of the lane still. This ball has become a staple in my bag and has lived up to the Virtual Energy name well.

I was a bit late to the VEBO train, but shortly after I hopped on it I learned why it is the most loved at my home alley the last few months since it's release. It is the smoothest ball I've ever thrown and is responsible for my first 300 since I've come back to the sport. Only took a week to get familiar with it's angular motion but it's so smooth through the front's that the forgiveness is unmatched whether on a house or sport shot it will always be in my bag. Highly recommend to bowlers of all types, high rev, low rev, doesn't matter, the core and coverstock combo is elite.

My Virtual Energy Blackout sports my favorite 4.25x2.5x4 layout. I’ve had the same or similar layout on the Code Black and Dark Code. Mixing the Shape-Lock core with the R2X cover is the next logical step in a highly successful line of equipment. I feel like from the Code Black to the Virtual Energy Blackout, each ball has been cleaner through the heads and stronger on the backend. I’ve thrown this ball in a few different houses on different patterns ranging from house to challenge conditions. The most consistent characteristic from pattern to patterns is the reliability on the ball making it down the lane to the spot. For that reason, the Virtual Energy Blackout has become the ball I get a read of the pattern with even if it’s not the ball I end up competing with. The pearl ReX cover on the VEBO is surprisingly clean. It does a great job of getting through early friction without getting off line too quickly. The low rg asymm core compliments the clean cover very well. Because of the length of the cover, the fast revving core translates to a medium to medium-quick response motion down lane. I have found that the VEBO is best when the lanes transition past big solid balls like the Absolute Power or Phase 2. It allows me to get more shape without overshooting the break point down lane. The Storm Virtual Energy Blackout features a very strong Shape-Lock HD Core, which certainly has a lot of flare potential. The ReX coverstock creates a very solid front-to-back- ball reaction. I do believe this Virtual Energy Blackout creates a bowling ball motion that not many other SPI balls do. Core numbers and the type of coverstock leads to believe that the Virtual Energy Blackout could be an alternative to the Dark Code, so I drilled my Virtual Energy Blackout with the same pin-down layout: 55 x 5 x 75. The Virtual Energy Blackout requires friction to be most effective. I do like the smooth and round ball motion that this bowling ball can create. I do find the Virtual Energy Blackout to be slightly less responsive to the friction than my Dark Code. In my opinion, the Virtual Energy Blackout is best when bowling on medium length oil patterns where the launch angles need to be a little more open. I think players that bowl on center with high friction lane panels can truly take advantage of this coverstock. This bowling ball can be a good connection between the dull/strong asymmetrical and cleaner/weaker symmetrical bowling balls. I am looking forward to using the Virtual Energy Blackout in the upcoming tournaments.

This ball has been a pleasant surprise. I haven’t typically gotten along with shiny asymmetrical balls, in this case the reaction isn’t as violent as others. I find myself being able to move a little right and getting it down lane further storing all its power for the back end. I haven’t had a look like this in my bag for quite some time and I am finding it hard to put down.

The Virtual Energy Blackout combines the REX pearl reactive coverstock finished with Reacta Glosswith the Shape-Lock HD Core. At 15 pounds, the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .020. It has been quite a few years since I threw a ball with this core in it. As soon as I threw the VEBO, I realized how much I have missed that core. This ball is smooth, strong, and predictable all in one. With the out of box finish, the VEBO glides through the front part of the lane and has a nice arcing motion on the backend. For an asymmetrical pearl, this ball is very controllable. It definitely needs to see friction to be effective, as the sheen finish will hydroplane on heavier conditions. This ball reacts more like a benchmark ball than a big asymmetrical. This will fit nicely between the more aggressive solid asymmetricals and the weaker pearl symmetrical balls. Great ball for all the medium oil volume conditions!

The Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) is the latest addition to the signature line that is arguably the best ball on the market! Shape Lock HD core wrapped with the ReX pearl cover which gives you a clean and strong backend reaction. It’s been one of my favorite balls to throw this season. It seems to handle heavier oil but also doesn’t over hook off the dry. It gives me the perfect blend where I can use this all 3 games in league no problem. It’s a step down from the Exotic Gem. When the Exotic hooks too early or too much you could go right the the VEBO. I don’t really recommend using this ball on medium or lighter oil it becomes too angular. PAP: 4.5 over x 1 up. Layout: 5x6x3 Pin position: Above and slightly left of middle finger QUICK! That is the best way to describe this ball. That and the smell is delightful. I personally have not had an asymmetrical pearl ball in my bag for quite some time and I didn't know what I was missing. The pearl REX coverstock does a great job getting downlane and it's very obvious when the core takes over because the change of direction on this ball is something I haven't seen in a very long time. I've been able to use this ball on both house shots and broken down sport patterns (was a little too clean and quick to be able to use on the fresh sport condition) but once they broke down the VEBO shined. The only critique, and it's not really a critique, is that if the ball sees the dry too early (and this is true of a number of balls, especially on drier house patterns) it makes that fast change of direction and runs out of energy. At least the ball lets me know when its time to make a step down to something like an Xponent Pearl, or Journey, that is a little tamer down lane. I was a big fan of the original Virtual Energy Nano pearl, so when this was announced I knew I would drill one. This ball is just a tad weaker for me overall with plenty of length. It's a great bridge when the higher end pearls are to much and I need something with more shape down lane!

I started my bowling career 2 months ago with the Storm Tropical Surge. I averaged 140 with that ball. HOWEVER, I bought the 15 lb VEBO and my god... Ive bowled 10 games with it averaging 190! Huge difference maker ball to take it to the next level. I am still a beginner but I am able to put up top scores with this ball and the STORM ICE Spare ball.

I found the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) to be a game-changer on the lanes. Its remarkable blend of strength and precision allowed me to confidently tackle transition with ease. With its OOB finish I found that this ball really shines on the longer patterns in games 2-5.

This is a very solid Asym Pearl! When your Asym Solids are starting to get too early, this ball does a really good job of getting through the fronts; but, with the R2X cover the ball wants to dig into the midline while still remaining angularity and energy in the back part of the lane! It's a great ball for any bowler.

2 hander, 450 rpm, 15.5-16 mph, bowling on THS. different sport patterns, and PBA Southwest regionals, 50x5x50 layout (5x4.25x2.75 2LS layout) By far the best asym pearl Ive ever thrown. shot my first PBA 300 with it in a regional in Firelake Lanes in Shawnee, Oklahoma, shot several 760s-790s in league, and has been an absolute staple in my bag since I got it several months ago. With most of my balls, I replace them within a month or so because they just don't have that same reaction fresh out of box but my VEBO has close to, if not more than 120 games on it and it still reacts great and close to when I got it. Ive even drilled a second one to see the out-of-box comparison and it wasn't off by much. It's my go-to ball when I need something strong and angular, something I know will read the midlane and come back if I miss a little right, and something when I need that pop downlane. I can use it on fresh or in transition, I can put surface on it or I can polish it, it has just been such an amazing ball for me and the conditions I bowl on. VIRTUAL GRAVITY BLACKOUT. All back just the way you needed it. Patterns used for review are HP modified. Pattern A: 38Ft, 27.22 Mls, 6:1 ratio Pattern B: 41Ft, 30.86 Mls, 4:1 ratio COMMENTS PLAY The VGB OR VIRTUAL GRAVITY BLACKOUT. Gets down the lane very clean and makes the corner Pattern A: Ball 1. Out of box VGB had to be left and go after it. Lane play was 20 to 5 and watch her backend. Very clean through the front and very distant roll and turn to break point. This pattern could be played from 12 to 2 and hold the line for speed players with higher rev rate. I backed off the revs and went to a more forward roll with success. Easily able to control the lane transition. Typical house moves on a higher volume than most places. High scores and Big angles. Pattern B: This pattern was longer and higher volume. Play was from the inside on fresh or far right. With no surface adjustment had to be spot in to carry. No room for error. As the pattern transitioned, area opened, it became easier and easier to play this particular pattern. Waited a few games for break down and the moves were to the right with feet and line. Play the line not the angle NOTE A: When playing the fresh on higher ball keep lines tight from the inside or play straighter from the right. NOTE B: Start with something like the Optimum Idol out of box and open the lane up. You won’t regret what comes next with being able to use the VGB more and more without having to be perfect. LOW DOWN: The VIRTUAL GRAVITY BLACKOUT is a ball that stronger rev players will often wait on for transitions or straighter players can start with medium speed and rev rate. You can lightly break the shine and get the VGB moving earlier to smooth out the angle for stronger players. Normally i excel with Symmetrical balls but this ASYM pearl surprised and made its way in the bag. Plus the all black makes you pay attention to it all the way down the lane to read it.

Storm Virtual Energy Blackout Ball Review Layout VLS 4.75x4x2 Dual Angle 50x4.75x30 Storm Virtual Energy Blackout uses the core from the Virtual Gravity wrapped with the REX pearl coverstock. Storm Virtual Energy Blackout is very clean through the fronts with a strong angular motion on the backend, I like to start with my Absolute Power on fresh oil and when the lane transistions and i need more backend the VEBO is the perfect choice. Layout: VLS 5 x 4 x 2 The Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) brings back the Shape Lock HD core from the older Gravity balls and wraps it in the REX Pearl coverstock that is a mix of R2S Pearl and NEX Pearl, seen on the Fate, Night Road, Infinite PhysiX, and the Dark Code. The VEBO is great at getting through the heads, even when they’ve been beat up. I was expecting the VEBO to be much snappier on the back end, but it actually is extremely smooth for a pearl. I am a higher speed, rev challenged 220-250ish, high tilt, high rotation, and super low track player. I drilled my Storm Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) 5.5 x 3x 1.75 using Storm VLS and my axis point is 3 ¼ right and 7/8 up. The Storm Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) is a asymmetric pearl reactive piece that I really like medium volume patterns. The higher RG and big diff gives this ball high flare potential when I need something to give me more motion control down lane. Overall, this ball is very good when you need shape and power. Plus it smells like orange pop!

My grandson loves this ball. He just needs to fine tune his markings on the lane to execute. He made it to the semis but lost by 4pins. Mahalo

This is my 2nd Virtual Blackout back. My first one has a hair line Crack, a out 2-3 inches. I'm not sure if it would books up. Just in case it does Crack all the way, I purchased an other one as bank up.
