900 Global Viking Conquest Review

The Viking Conquest is a lot smoother than what I was expecting and it rolls a little weaker to me than my Vengeance. It also seems to not be as over/under for me like the Viking was. I will be curious how this ball will be on some tougher conditions. 900 Global has definitely been making some really good equipment and has some shapes that the other brands might not have out. It really helps fill out most bowlers’ arsenals.

I've been throwing the 900 Global Viking Conquest drilled 4 x 4 x 4, and it's been an excellent choice on heavier oil patterns. The layout gives me a strong, readable motion with an early midlane roll while still maintaining plenty of continuation through the pins. It never feels like it quits downlane, even on fresh, high-volume conditions. When I need traction and control without sacrificing hitting power, this is the first ball I reach for.

Utilizing the same Strobe AI core from the Viking this time they wrapped it in the strongest cover used on any 900 Global ball to date; the RB 94 Solid. I tested the Viking Conquest at my home center on a longer Kegel Pattern with plenty of volume so I Could really get an idea of what they did with the new cover. I noticed right away the ball was picking up the mid-lane very aggressively. Even with the added volume I saw shape before the end of the pattern and the ball was pretty forward off the back of the pattern. I expected to be forced left with the length of the pattern but I could belly the ball much more on the fresh than I had expected. I had more forgiveness on small misses right as a result so I was pretty happy with the ball motion. I think the Viking Conquest will look best for speed dominant/rev challenged players and on higher volume patterns. I couldn't expect this to be in play much longer than game one on your typical house pattern. The Viking Conquest has been a really solid ball for me with the 4 × 4 × 2.5 layout. It gives me a strong read in the middle of the lane while still continuing well through the pins. When I need something smooth and predictable, this is a ball I can trust.

Favorite big hook ball. Works great on anything longer than 42ft or heavy volume. Out hooks my Alpha Cruz by a few boards and way earlier. Great addition to my back as my big early hook ball.

The Viking Conquest is an absolute BEAST! This ball gives me exactly what I want when I need something to pick up in the midlane and still continue through the pins. It reads the lane early, gives me a strong and controlled shape, but doesn't feel like it burns up and quit down lane.

The next release in the new but very impressive 900 series line is the Viking COnquest. Following up from the surprisingly popular Viking, the Conquest invades us with a solid reactive coverstock. WIth updating my equipment last year from 14lbs back to 15lbs, at the encouragement from Staff Manager Mike Sinek, I replaced my Attention Star with the Viking and it did not disappoint me at all. The ball motion and pin carry are identical on both balls and I still enjoy using my Viking when needed. Looking to replace my Roto Grip Hyperdrive RST solid, I went with the Viking Conquest with a little stronger layout then the RST I had. I was thinking I was going to get the “soft” and little earlier reaction, but instead I got a pin blasting medium length ball reaction with a mid to strong reaction in the backend. I rolled a 300 game in the first set with it and I was 5 boards right of my usual starting target with the RST and using the same target down lane at the end of the pattern right between the two tracer boards. One of my best sets I had in 2 years at Colony Park Lanes with the Conquest and I usually have to switch out of solid coverstocks by the 3rd game, but I am able to stay in the Conquest all the way through 4 to 5 games with only minor adjustments. I am very impressed with the Conquest and it will be the FIRST ball out on the rack at Colony Park Lanes and Hanover Bowling Centre without any hesitation. WOW. This ball is strong. I was looking at a new big ball to fit in the arsenal and this ball fits perfect. It’s still very continuous down lane which is hard to find when a core and cover are this strong. I loved the original viking so to be this is a great upgrade to start on the fresh oily lane conditions.

The 900 Global Viking Conquest has been an outstanding addition to my arsenal. Mine is drilled 55×4.5×40 with a PAP of 4 1/8" right and 7/8" up, giving me a strong, forward-continuing motion that excels on higher-volume oil and shorter sport patterns where controlling the backend is critical. The Conquest reads the lane with confidence and keeps its motion predictable through the pins. I've also found that adding polish transforms it into an excellent option for blending out the wet/dry on a typical house shot while still maintaining its strong, reliable shape. Its versatility and predictability make it a ball I can trust whenever I need a controlled, continuous reaction.

Storm released a new version of the Viking from their 900 Global line called the Viking Conquest. It features the same Strobe A.I. Core as the original Viking. But instead of Reserve Blend (RB) 90 Hybrid which meant there was some pearl in the Viking cover, the Viking Conquest is RB 94 Solid Reactive. So it’s a stronger, fully reactive coverstock with no pearl in it. I’d say in terms of cover strength, the Viking Conquest is one of the strongest covers of all the SPI balls, right up there with the Ion Max. The RG is higher (2.51 in the 15#) so it should be a little cleaner through the front and save a little more energy giving it a little more pop on the back than the Ion Max. The diff and PSA dif of 0.052 and 0.016, respectively give it plenty of flare potential. I drilled mine 5 ¾ x 3 x 1 ¾. I was looking for a complement to my Origin which is drilled the same way and has been a really good ball on the fresh, when I wanted the ball to stay online, then make a fairly quick change of direction to create a hook set type ball motion. I threw it a little out of the box and the cover was pretty strong. I put Power Edge polish on it and that helped it clear the fronts. I think both cover options work depending on the pattern and what you are looking for. I haven’t really thrown it a lot because I haven’t bowled on patterns where it really fit. But from what I’ve seen, the Viking Conquest is a really good option for a top of the bag ball in your arsenal. If you are looking for a strong asym, the Ion Max, RST Hyperdrive, Equinox Solid and Viking Conquest are the balls you would choose from in this part of the arsenal. I think the Viking Conquest fits right in between the Ion Max and RST Hyperdrive and Equinox Solid, where it will have a little more skid and back end than the Ion Max, but is a stronger cover and more overall hook than the Equinox Solid.
