900 Global Origin EX Review
The 900 Global Origin EX is a budget asymmetric powerhouse with .050 differential that punches way above its $139.95 price. Video reviews inside.
Don't change. Got no regrets. I'm on the run. Chasing the check. Dropping the top. Riding the vet. Telling myself what you expect. You know I'm with it. No better feeling cuz I could have quit but I didn't. 7 when I'm on a mission. Moving it up to a better position. They thought I was tripping. They had the vision. I told them but no they ain't listening. Took me some L's. But now that I'm winning, I'm feeling like fab. There's no competition. Embracing the pain. It's making me stronger. And now I got ice in my veins. I paid the price for the money and pain. But no matter what, I ain't never going to change. What's going on,
social media land? Charles Henderson here and today we're looking at the Origin EX. So, the original Origin really, really good. I think that was a really good bowling ball in my opinion. And now, again, we have a solid version. The first one was a hybrid. And I think they're starting to fill out those gaps within the brand uh for Global. And I think again, this is a good starting point. So, the harsh reality solid was okay. And I feel like this one hopefully is a little bit cleaner of a cover stock, right? I I don't have any information outside of, you know, what
was on the box. Uh but yeah, I'm hoping I'm hoping I'm hoping that this is going to be a cleaner cover and again gives you a little more usability. Uh nothing to be sideways, right? We don't need to be as responsive as the original Origin, but smidge earlier. I'm thinking definitely still a step down from, you know, Ion Maxes. I don't think there's any reason to release another ion. So, we got this one here. Then we also have the Hyperdrive from Rotogrip, one of the newest balls. That's typically that's
always the first questions I typically get. So, we're going to answer that. And then also the next video, we're going to talk about a a common question that people always get when they walk into a pro shop or a pro shop operator typically gets like, I want to get the strongest bowling ball on the market. All right? You know, and that typically can mean two distinctively different things. So, we'll talk about that in the next video. And we'll it and we'll be featuring two top end bowling balls from different brands. And you can again, as a new customer coming in or a new bowler
coming in, you got to be able to understand like what you're asking so you can actually get the desired result that you're that you're hoping for. A lot of people purchase a ball based on what they told a pro shop operator and then it wasn't what they were expecting when they got on the lane. So, you got to be very specific, a little more specific. So, but anyway, get the ballsmart.com. They have the ball, they have the shoes, they got tape, they got bags, they got everything, everything you need. And then Coolwick, they have this one exclusively. It's white. It's spring, almost summertime. Need some
clean shirts, man? Get overwick.com. And they got polos now. They got some specific pose. They're having some fun with it. Go check it out. I think you guys will 100% enjoy. Um, and yeah, so let's get to it, man. We going to get warmed up a little bit. Then we'll get into a full game. We'll toss all the bone balls a little bit around and then again we get to that full game for you guys. Enough talking. Let's get the fights. Legs are [Music]
my first shot. Let's get warmed up out here. This is a fresh house shot if I didn't mention it before. Step to the
right. Yeah. So yeah, especially warm it up, drop it down the speed, everything. Just try to again get the ball going. Um, so far it looks good. Definitely looks cleaner. Like it's not jigging nearly the way like a ionax would [Music] have. All right.
Mhm. Oh, kick it. No love. No love. A little bit further. Right. That's what a lot of folks always ask. hooked immediately. Like look, I put it right there into the friction. It, you know, I almost have to like loft it or
push it to get it to not, you know, cross over a little [Music] bit. Looks pretty good. Again, cheated. just about about three about three four boards uh you know to the right and just you know try to keep it on that line like don't try to give it away give the pocket away too much when I say give the pocket away
meaning throw it like directly to the ditch like the tighter the angles the more direct of a line that's what I'm kind of referring to in that zone go to [Music] 20. Yeah. So, right there looks pretty good. Let's go ahead and try the hyperdrive. And like it's funny, but the hyperdrive definitely does not look like
that far off in color. Like like it's no blue. See the blue is only different color in these two. 20 little cleaner. So, not a huge fan of the hyperdrive to be honest. Like, I haven't been. They seem to be
okay, but it's like this cover core combination for me just I don't quite read it. how I, you know, like to read the the big asims. [Music] Yeah. Like for me, the hyperdrive is a play more here 100% like other time. Like if I try to start getting a little too away from the pocket with it, it just doesn't go through the pins for me.
You know, I know other people have had success, but like this is definitely that's a sport pattern ball. Like I only I don't see this on house left. Yeah, it just again like the higher RG and the covers like us trying to like be really early and the core is like trying to fight or trying to push down a lane. just doesn't work for me.
But maybe it could be the layout, right? It could be a number of factors, but this combination is meh. All right, so going to 25. See what we get. Much better than hyperdrive. Much better. and a hyperdrive I have all of like five games on maybe maybe
six. So it's not like oh I've abused the cover sock on that hyperdrive like I I have [Music] not little inside. Okay. So, like that. Kind of similar to what we saw with the hyperdrive is that like I like the shot went definitely more inside, right? Roll that oil line a little bit more and they both just, you know, wiggled. Didn't see
it. All right. So, I think again being a little bit further right, I'm move my feet closer to 20 now. opposed that last shot that was on 25. Looks phenomenal. Like can stay in that little zone right there and be pretty good. So, we are going to throw one more shot then we're going to do the full game. But I'll throw the origin. We'll throw more of the origin after the game is over. Pretty long. Let's see.
Yep. It seems to be again a fair amount of oil on this lane. So, it's pushing everything. So, I think once we get through this full game, maybe a little more to throw it with this Origin. So, all right. Origin time. Origin ex Oh yes. Flat flat flat 10. So like that
last particular shot I really leaned back and I didn't wasn't a little more you know chest to my knee. Um when I mention that I mean I was more like here at release instead of here. So that's the kind of a big difference. [Music] All right. Stay in this same [Music]
spot. Oh, that might take off. Oh, that look perfect. That look perfect. This is definitely giving me like like hammer effect, honestly. Like this is what this is giving me. Like still a little smoother. Yeah. So, it's definitely not giving me no reality or definitely not harsh reality. Like, this is definitely
feeling more like a like it's floating really pushing and like a like a stronger ion pro almost. [Music] So, not a bad thing, but that's that's the vibe I'm getting. Little cleaner, a little smoother ball.
So definitely honestly I can move further right you know and then watch I'mma move over there and it's going to like check and duck hook but I can keep cheating a little further right hold that line m So again, make it a little bit tighter, you know, angle-wise, like so not being,
you know, as open. Bring it a little more direct. And it nine pin. So, I'm not gonna be as far. I think I'm just going to continue to leave nine pins if I stay more on top of it, especially as the lanes transition. So, I'm going to stay right in 20 in this 20
range with my feet. And the lane should break down and it should give me more miss room cuz that's what you really want, especially talking about leagues and tournaments. Let the shot come to you. You know, typically in a game one, I'm not trying to get all my score game one. I just want to be able to get to the pocket, make some good shots. If I If I do shoot 300, great. But I want to have a better game two and three. Let the lane come to you a little
bit. So, right there again looks good. I just got to be good to it. It's showing a lot of good continuation. You watch some of these shots back like it is. And going through it, right? Trying to get through that ap. That's what you really want to see from this type of ball. Like again, not giving me ion max
force me crazy left. Even mesmerized like it's not giving me that. like this is giving me ball down from there. Maybe if you uh you get the cover and you bring the the grit down right, it might make it a little more aggressive. But how it comes out of box 2000. This ball is almost a ASM control ball. But I I love this range like a
bowling balls. Like this is this is it. It's like what my eye likes to see. Got a couple events coming up and this is working its way into the bag right now. Like I again it's very consistent and very [Music] continuous like this is almost taking out you know I wouldn't say a hammer effect tour but like a
strongish you know symmetric like a stealth mode or like a rockstar like this kind of they're But like it depends on like what we're bowling on and who I think I'm being a pair with. So I will adjust my bag accordingly. Oh laid. It laid like crazy. That's exactly what you want to see, man. Like that
just looked good. All right. So I mis left and it sat there. That's [Music] beautiful. Better shot. Thought it was. Look at the pin spinning over there. Again, still a little bit tighter. Like I could have arked it out there, you know, a little bit, you know, to the right, a little further. But can't I'm not I'm not not hating this at all. Like this is
definitely like heavier Pride Liberty, you know, like just heavier in the middle of the lane, not as quick. Oh, missed it. Oh, yeah. So, again, that was like at least a 230 game I just blew. Yeah, missed the spare. But again, I was having fun fun fun with that one um with the EX.
But we're going to continue to throw a couple more shots with the original Origin um and versus the EX. So, you can see uh but this is I'm liking it. Again, this is not ionax. I've said it probably three, four times now. This is definitely a step down. I wouldn't say considerably, but enough that you definitely notice a difference. Um, but this feels like a game one and game two ball like in a regular league set. Like you know the
average average bowlers, this is 100% can get the job done. I feel like it's going to continue to speed up as we we keep throwing it and breaking the lane down and it sees more friction. Like a couple shots there like it definitely showed more zip, but a lot of forgiveness. This may be the most forgiving ball um I've thrown in a while. Maybe. Maybe. Time was up. Got a little further left.
25. Yeah. So, again, not enough friction yet to be jumping over there. It's running out of energy. It's fine. Not a problem at all. Let's go to Origin. Cleaned it. So definitely on a cleaner side and I think this ball's often was rolly to begin with so it's not all that
surprising. Let's go to the origin one more time. Oh jeez louise. A pin savage. All right. So again, let's throw another one. Oh, wow. Transition. It needs some. So
again, it's quite a bit of oil on the wing and that origin with a shinier cover is just pushing getting behind the head pin, not doing the things that we wanted to do. And the new EX is so again definitely on a cleaner side and and people say, "Oh, but you've had the Origin for a long time." I'm like, "I haven't thrown it that much, bro." I'm like, "So many balls that come out, I give balls a
honest chance." So, you know, 10 games max, you know, and if it doesn't fall into that rotation, there's a lot of things around that ball around that time that I really fond of. But this EX Origin, this has a real chance to get in a bag. Yeah. So again, definitely not the most side to side, right, left to right. This is play downhill. Be
downhill right there. Bang. Yeah. So, I'm really liking the shape of this ball. Like people who don't like to be forced super lefts think this is going to be a really good option. And uh yeah, it's it does the thing. Does the thing, man. So, hope you guys enjoyed that. Hit that like, subscribe, get over to Hype Nation as well. That's a secondary YouTube channel. Most of the matches, some of the other comparisons might even be featured on there as well. But, we're going to be mixing it up. I got tires to head to that one. Hopefully
my guy Jason Maryland will be dropping some content as well over on that particular channel. So, and then yeah, get to cool.com, man. Use the code hutch 10 and you're good to go. BSmart.com. Links for everything below. If you're curious about what shoes I'm wearing, use links like it's a description. I put everything that you might be curious about down below. I'm so locked in right now. Everything I work for ain't never going to change. I
prayed for them long nights I cried for the money and pain. [Music]
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Independent testing on a fresh house shot revealed the 900 Global Origin EX to be a notably cleaner coverstock than its hybrid predecessor, positioning it as a more controlled mid-range option. The ball demonstrated consistent motion characteristics across multiple board positions, with testers observing smooth, continuous downlane movement through the oil pattern rather than aggressive angular reactions. When compared directly to the original Origin on the same fresh house conditions, the EX proved measurably cleaner off the hand—pushing through the front of the lane with better control and avoiding the early excessive hook that plagued the older hybrid coverstock in heavier oil. The reactive solid cover delivered what testers characterized as “smooth” and “forgiving” motion, with the ball reading the lanes in a predictable manner rather than fighting the friction.
The asymmetric core generated adequate angular motion without overwhelming the bowler, striking a balance between backend reaction and midlane control. Testing showed the ball responded well to slight adjustments in approach angle and foot position, allowing bowlers to fine-tune their lines without dramatic shifts in ball motion. Notably, the EX produced significantly more forgiveness than expected at this price point—missed shots that drifted slightly left or right still found the pocket consistently. As lanes transitioned throughout the test game and friction increased, the ball showed additional bite without becoming uncontrollable, suggesting it would maintain usability across multiple game formats in league and tournament settings.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Origin EX is ideally suited for league bowlers and tournament competitors throwing on medium to medium-heavy oil conditions who want a workhorse ball that doesn’t demand perfect execution. The combination of clean coverstock reaction and manageable core dynamics makes this a strong option for bowlers transitioning from entry-level equipment or those seeking a reliable game-one or game-two option in their arsenal. At $139.95, it delivers performance typically associated with significantly pricier equipment, making it particularly attractive for budget-conscious bowlers who refuse to sacrifice consistency.
This ball excels for bowlers who prefer straighter, more controlled motion paths over aggressive hook-and-snap backends. Average to above-average bowlers will appreciate the forgiving nature of the motion, which allows for wider margin-of-error shots while still generating enough continuation to carry spares and strike pockets reliably. The Origin EX works best for those bowling fresh or early-medium oil conditions where a hybrid would be overkill; it’s not designed to be a benchmark strongest ball on the market, but rather a predictable, repeatable performer that stays in the bag through multiple games without requiring constant equipment changes.

Bowlers frequently mention:
Layout: 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 RPM Tilt: 13* The new Origin EX brings back the Ellispse AI core and is paired with the new RB89 Solid Coverstock. The intent of this ball was to create a clean reaction in the front while giving the same strong midlane continuation and control that makes this one different. With today's lane surfaces getting older year after year, you need to get the ball through the higher friction front end of the lane. This is where the Origin EX comes into play. I was able to test this on a 44ft Typical House Pattern. On the fresh, I saw a pretty clean ball, strong midlane and a pretty controllable backend. This is different than your typical solid asymmetrical because this ball does not try to read immediately when you put it on the lane. Compared to the Ion Max, I saw this ball to be significantly cleaner and more controllable. The Origin EX although designed to be smooth, it can be a fresh ball or a transition ball from another stronger solid asymmetrical. As the lanes started to transition, I was able to move further left and still saw nice continuation through the pins. The biggest hurdle of this one is when I had to open my angles up. The slower controllable coverstock did not like angle too much and had trouble going through the pins if I got far enough left. On my typical house pattern, this makes this ball a little bit more one note and only really good on the fresh. I think on harder, more challenging conditions, this ball will really come to play as that stronger control piece on lane surfaces that are older. Compared to the original Origin, I saw about 3 boards less of hook overall and about 2 boards less angle down lane. The Origin is the better choice when opening the lanes up more. I think the best conditions for the Origin EX would be on the fresh on medium to longer length house patterns as well as the same length sport patterns. The control of this piece will give you more command of patterns where more shallow angles are needed. If you are an up the lane person, I can see this ball being a staple in the bag. Also, left handers would likely get good use out of this ball because it won't change direction as hard. Adam Chase Storm Staff
The layout on mine is 50 x 4 x 35. The Origin EX provides a smoother and controllable roll than the actual Origin. With the RB 89 Solid Coverstock, it’s great a ball to use when the lanes starts to transition and on higher fricition surfaces. I took this ball to one house where the lanes had a little more friction in the backend. Not only was it smoother and controllable, but the A.I. technology packed a big punch as it went through the pins and gave me great hitting power. This could be a step down from the Origin, which can be too angular off the spot, but the solid coverstock on the EX really helps blend the backend motion. A very unique shape, but this would be really good on shorter to medium patterns, especially on some flatter patterns where the oil ration is much lower. This ball is pretty good and will definitely keep this ball with me! - Devon R. Storm Staffer

I tend to not show off a new ball under a sport pattern as many players are looking at these reviews and videos and do not throw on harder shots. The OG Origin was a shiny hybrid, but this new EX has some teeth and wants to dig in but is very clean upfront and that might have been my biggest shock as I played and moved around the lane. This ball is getting a lot of air time at the PBA Playoffs and after throwing it I can see why. I was using my Exponent Solid as the test ball and found the EX to be 5-6 boards stronger so I now have a ball that will allow me to get left and have the confidence from that zone. The RB 89 cover was specifically designed for high friction surfaces and will clear the fronts while providing a smooth and controlled downlane reaction. The Ellipse A.I. core was created to push the boundaries of asymmetric performance, allowing for maximum energy retention. The Origin EX is currently the only solid asymmetric ball in the 900 Global lineup, but would be a step down from the Ion Max or Hyperdrive. The Origin EX gave me a great look sliding on 24, looking 13 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 4-5. I was able to move left and not sacrifice ball motion and carry with speed and hand position adjustments. When compared to the Origin, the Origin EX was cleaner through the fronts with a much smoother and continuous downlane motion. The Origin changes direction much quicker and rolls more forward through the pins. Depending on the pattern and lane surface, the Origin EX could be the first ball out of your bag to blend out a cliffed house pattern or a number two ball on heavier tournament conditions. The Origin EX sets a new standard for dynamic core technology while delivering unmatched control and power with every throw. Stop by your local Storm VIP pro shop to check it out! Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a smooth backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Origin. Origin was 2-2 left of the Origin EX with a more angular shape on the backend motion. The Origin EX will be a good piece to start the block on medium-heavy volume patterns, then switch to the Original Origin to get through the fronts when they start to burn up.
