Columbia 300 Pulse Review
The Pulse is a do-it-all benchmark for league bowlers who value predictability — smooth, rolling arc on medium-heavy oil at $189.95. Video reviews inside.
Hi everyone, Tim from Columbia 300 and I'm back to talk to you today about a brand new ball for the upcoming league season. Columbia 300 has a history of delivering remarkable products for bowlers that spans over 60 years. In recent years, we've been reintroducing some of those iconic balls, and the one that gets requested most is finally here. I want to introduce and talk to you guys about the new Columbia 300 pulse. When reintroducing this Pulse, we wanted to redeliver the iconic consistency and
predictability that that original Pulse offered except for today's lane conditions. So, one of our main objectives in doing so was re-engineering that original pulse core shape and introduced an outer core material which helped us achieve the densities that we wanted for the ideal performance for that that smooth consistent benchmark ball. So, after we had our core dynamics dialed in, we needed to build some test balls with some different cover stock variations. Through many rounds of
testing, we landed on the HK22 Hyperflex cover, which is a little bit stronger response to friction, and it gives you a lot of continuation while still maintaining a lot of consistency. >> All right, so our next tester will be Sydney Hollander. Sydney, why don't you come on in? Thank you for joining us today. Thanks for having me. >> Uh, we're going to have Sydney throw the pulse as well. Uh, Sydney is a medium lower speed, medium lower rev rate. Uh, kind of typical lefty down and in kind of player. can curve it a little bit if the lanes are, you know, calling for that. So, I want to see you uh throw
this pulse on lane three and see what h see how it goes. There you go. Very nice. So, well done. uh kind of tell me what you were thinking uh the ball was doing for you, what the ball was kind of giving you out there. >> Yeah, so this is a little bit of an earlier piece. You know, it's reads the midlanes a little bit more. Um the cover
on it is a little bit stronger. You know, it's not a super shiny smooth cover. Um so it's got a little bit of teeth to it, which I like as a as a lefty who likes to play, you know, the early friction. This is a great piece for that. >> Yeah. And and this is a medium to heavy volume pattern. Um so seeing that nice smooth consistent performance uh that we're seeing for you. Um, it's exactly what we wanted this pulse to be.
Wow, that was pretty high flush there. Um, so obviously you got a decent number of shots on the ball on the lane. How do you feel like the ball held up to as the lanes transition being on the left side by yourself? >> Yeah, I think as the lanes transition I'm going to see, you know, that early friction start to, you know, make my ball read a little too soon. Um, but I think as the the day goes on, I think I can move a little bit right with that, get around it a little bit more, throw it kind of into the friction and still see it shape enough because of where it reads in the mid lane. It's not too early. Um, but it's not too down lane
either. So, it's that perfect blend to blend the patterns out. >> Yeah. And that's that's we keep talking about benchmark ball. That's the idea of this pulse as that perfect benchmark ball. Um the core is a re-engineered version of that original core shape. Uh we do now feature DOT. Uh so you know durability technology, durability optimization technology let you drill it however you want. Uh it also has a new power core nugget which is the original had a ceramic nugget. Um this one is an updated kind of newer engineer material. uh have a much denser nugget in the
middle of the core that you can actually still drill through. So, um you're going to see a lot of the hitting power uh and a lot of that performance from that that really strong benchmark type of core shape. So, Sydney, thank you very much today and uh we'll see you soon. Mike, that was a great shot to end on. Nice job. >> So, uh, thank you for throwing those
shots today. Why don't you tell me what you were seeing with this new Colombia 300 pulse? >> This ball, uh, was described to me as very benchmarky. I'm a little I'm a little too young to remember the original version of this ball. Uh but benchmark is it's ideally what it comes to mind when I throw this ball. >> Yeah. And the idea of having that perfect benchmark type of ball is ball is going to always pick up, always kind of read the mid lane, you know, that middle 20 foot section of the lane. That's where you want your ball to start curling starting. It's it's kind of hooking motion. If it gets too far than that or too much too much past that, then the ball's going to be a little bit too erratic. If it's a little bit too
much before that, then it's going to be not enough energy into the pin. So benchmark balls typically pick up in that middle, you know, 20 foot section of the lane. >> Yeah. Uh, and that's kind of what I saw from the sidelines. Do you see the same thing? >> Yeah, this is kind of like ideally of what Columbia has been known for and like old times like resurgences, all-time favorite outburst kind of balls like that. Um, not as big and like kind of quick as like some of the cudas kind of are with the different the core numbers and stuff like that, but it's very benchmark where you can, you know, you can chase it in and just be really round and smooth and not super early and burn up or like too like get too
forward. Yeah, I know you as a tournament player, you really like those low RG, you know, medium flaring kind of balls, you know, and this one does fit in that bill. So, I think it's going to be a great fit for yourself. Um, players of your style that speed dominant kind of player, um, as well as players going to a bunch of different varieties of lane conditions, you know, bowling tournaments, especially harder patterns. Yeah, harder patterns. It's going to give you that control, give you that predictability and that consistent reaction, uh, from day to day. So, Mike, thank you very much. >> Thank you.
So, our next bowler who's going to throw the new Columbia 300 Pulse will be Megan Redmond. Megan, thanks for joining us again. Uh, so we're going to have the new Pulse. I know you were a big fan of that Super Cuda Power Core. This one should take that kind of ball, that ball motion, that little bit smoother, more benchmark type of ball, um, and speed just a little bit more of it. It's probably going to pick up a little bit sooner and be a little bit more rounder, more continuous on the back end. So, let's uh get you out on lane three, throw some shots, and see what happens.
very nice there. Um, so you've thrown a bunch of shots here. Where do you feel like this ball is going to kind of fit in? Where do you find yourself using a ball like this? um really everywhere anywhere. I feel like on short cadms it could look really good. Even this is a little bit of a higher bony down and I'm pretty far left as we right. So I think it looks pretty good on a lot. >> Yeah. And that's that's kind of what the hallmark of that original Pulse was. You're probably not old enough. I don't think you're old enough to kind of remember that original one uh that came out in the mid '9s, but that ball was
known for kind of being that ball that you could throw all the time. Uh so we kind of wanted to to strike that nerve a little bit or or play on that heartstring of those players that had that coup or that pulse um back then. Uh and we wanted to kind of recreate that for today's environment. You know, obviously with the amount of lane conditions that are out there now, you know, it's a much broader uh spectrum of patterns that you're going to see. So we still wanted to kind of keep that um idea of of versatility and a wide range of use uh in this new piece. So, why don't you throw a couple more,
>> Megan? Very well done there. Uh, thank you for throwing those shots today. Um, I'm really liking what I see. Uh, I see a lot of control, a lot of pistant and consistent motion. Um, and a great continuation. I feel like it's going to be really, really versatile for a lot of players like you guys saw in the videos today. Uh, do you have any final thoughts on the Pulse? >> I think it's really controllable and I think that's what I'm known for. So, I think it seems something. >> Yeah, me too. So, I'm excited to see it out in the field. Uh, so everyone, thanks for tuning in today. Uh, make
sure to check columb300.com and stay tuned for all of our updates on new products as well as follow us on our social media platforms, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, whatever you got, we got it. So, uh, we'll see you soon.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Columbia 300 Pulse delivers a strong, continuous ball motion characterized by predictable backend reaction. Independent reviewers observed the ball reading friction effectively across multiple board positions, with a heavy roll that generates significant pin carry. On the test pattern, the ball exhibited early hook initiation due to its aggressive 1000-grit finish paired with the HK22 Hyperflex coverstock, yet maintained a smooth, continuous arc rather than an abrupt angular response. Notably, the ball’s performance remained readable and controllable even when moved multiple boards in either direction, allowing bowlers to make fine adjustments without losing confidence in the reaction. The Pulse generated impressive noise and hitting power at the pins, suggesting strong energy retention through the backend.
Surface adjustments proved effective in modifying the ball’s behavior. When polished and given a pearl layer, the Pulse transitioned to a smoother, more controlled motion—demonstrating versatility within a single core design. Testers noted that the ball’s core geometry (RG of 2.468, differential of 0.045) combined with the reactive solid cover creates a piece suitable for medium-heavy oil conditions without requiring extensive surface preparation before league use. The dull finish does attract dirt quickly, but this characteristic was viewed as a minor trade-off for the aggressive traction needed for this ball’s intended purpose.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Columbia 300 Pulse is ideal for bowlers seeking a dependable, heavy-hitting piece that reads the lane consistently without requiring extensive tweaking. Experienced players who prefer strong, predictable ball motion will find this ball immediately useful out of the box—particularly those comfortable with aggressive coverstock finishes and mid-lane pickup. The ball works well for both power players and those with straighter release styles, though straighter throwers may benefit from surface adjustments or more deliberate hand positioning to maximize control.
This is a solid addition to any intermediate to advanced bowler’s arsenal, especially those regularly bowling on medium to medium-heavy oil patterns. The Pulse serves as an effective diagnostic tool for reading lane conditions, helping bowlers identify where oil is present and where dry boards lie. Bowlers looking for a nostalgic throwback with modern performance specifications will appreciate that this contemporary remake delivers results worthy of its storied namesake.

I drilled mine 60 X 4 ¾ X 30. The Columbia 300 Pulse is one of the best symmetric solid balls I have ever thrown. It is your ultimate benchmark piece. The Pulse is an extremely versatile piece that is great on a variety of conditions. It is very continuous through the pins and never loses energy. One of the first balls out of my bag.
This ball is very strong- I personally don't like, because i am rev dominant, and i cant keep it right on a house shot! But, now if you don't have alot of revs, and you need a ball that will make the corner this is the ball for you!!
I have a Urethane ball that I used since 1990's ( +22 yrs.). Never satisfied with balls I bought until I got this C300. I loved it!!!!
Love the color of this ball but it took me a while to get it dialed in. Definitely a weaker solid imo. Now that’s
