Motiv Primal Ghost Review
A strong continuous arc on medium-heavy oil with more length than you expect from a solid cover. Priced at $199.95. Video reviews inside.
Got no regrets. I'm on the run. Chasing the check, dropping the top, riding the vet. What you expect? You know I'm with it. No better feeling cuz I could have quit but I didn't. Moving it up to a better position. They thought I was tripping. >> What's going on social media land? Charles Hudson here and Motive has done it again. So we have a primal ghost. So, we take the same cover stock off of [Music]
the jackal. Only reason it looks so dusty cuz I hit it like by hand. Um, but yeah, got the jackal ghost. So, you add that cover to this already, you know, proven core, right, which is a little bit higher RG, still a lot of differential. You got something pretty strong. So, we got this one here. We got the original Primal Shock. And then we also have the Jaggle. So maybe in a subsequent video I might pull out the the uh what's the ball? Subzero forge, right? Because that's still on the line currently and I think the Primal Shock is retired. But yeah, so previous right
had a Venom shock cover. Now we got a stronger cover. Again, I think should be interesting. But uh we did change the layout a smidge. So we went 45 by 4 1/2 by 40. 40. Yes, that's the new layout. So, this should make this ball a smidge blendier um overall because that core for me has been like really clean. Like doesn't pick up in a roll like super early. But again, these things should work out well together. But we're going to put this on a sport shot as well as a house shot
today. So, we're going to start again on a house shot, get a couple strikes, and then y'all can see me suffer on a Mark Ross 43 ft pattern. Um it's fresh. Haven't turned that lane on yet. But yeah, so we going to get started, man. Uh, again, shout out to again Bowlers Mart. Links for everything is below. Jersey I'm rocking today is another 12bagger special. So, get to 12bagger.com. Use code hike 10. Um, yeah, and everything's below, man. Yeah, let's get to it.
All right, so again, throw a couple shots, get warmed up. Oh, stuck pretty good on that first shot, boy. Stuck pretty good. Okay. So, looking pretty smooth. So, I'm thinking once we get to actual sport
pattern, I'll probably hit it a little more surface. I'll leave out a box it comes out like 2,000. So again, we'll see. I probably need to put it at like 1,000,500 at least cuz the ball is definitely flaring a ton. I think again this particular layout's making it a little stronger. So I might not need to go coast to coast. And I do think the the the house shot did they just changed the oil pattern as
well. Oh yeah, not bad so far. All right, so again, currently closer to 20 with my feet and I'm using that at the foul line.
Oh, got a little oil on that cover now. Starting to kind of dig in there. But yeah, so far getting all out of box and it is definitely getting shaping. I'll move about to 25. Get more at the foul line. Oh, >> definitely feels a little more cliff.
So, like you get it, you know, a little too far to the right wiggling. I actually think I'm flaring like over my fingers. I might have to check my PAP. I mentioned in a previous video bang. So that last particular shot tried to get a little more inside the ball to get
this ball going a little more in the middle of the lane. Especially because I think the jackal is probably going to look better uh with the fresher oil. All right. So, I'm definitely feeling like this ball is not the strongest. Like I think again corewise cover it's still like it's flaring a lot every time this balls come back.
Zoom me in on that one. Like it's it's going pretty good across there. for symmetric. All right. Throw the jackal getting shame. Yeah. Yeah. Cover stock is important. The core does do something. So, and I'm thinking
again both balls like this one should tank down a little bit. There she goes. >> Yeah, the Jacko has always been like a a cleaner, responsive asim. Um, and it's again looking pretty good right now. Getting this definitely again flaring.
I'll say even a little bit more. Just a smidge more because again layout layout on that one like I mentioned started the video um was a this one is 60 is only 60 by 4 1/2 by 30 but this one is 45 by 4 1/2 by 40. So those angles right are this is pushing it a little bit further down the lane, but the core right is a little bit stronger. I say a lot of bit stronger
than the primal. So definitely giving me start with the the jackal. I don't have to slow down or anything. And then you work your way into getting this new this new ghost because it's a it's a step down. Throw another shot back to back. Oh yeah, that that was starting to pick
up. I think as a lanes transition and break down, you know, the primal ghost right is going to push and have definitely a little more change of direction. I think as it transitions, but up front on more volume, this should look smoother as opposed to the uh jackal like it should look a lot less smooth. I'mma jump a little further to the left.
Mhm. >> Yeah, buddy. So, we getting some getting some oil. Getting a little comfortable. Lane starting to transition a little bit. We packing some racks. Okay. All right. We try to primal shock, which in theory, right, should be a cleaner cover stock, right? And push further down the lane. Should. Now, does that translate to less hook overall? I believe it should, but how whippy does it look in relation to the new ghost?
So that looked pretty sharp and I honestly believe though that is a characteristic of the shock right on house. That shot can look a lot stronger than a lot of other stuff period. getting first shot. Let's see if it uh calms down. But after seeing that, like I mean that was that was pretty substantial. Oh, that's inside.
That's all really can say to that. I'mma jump a little further left. moving closer to 30. Okay. So, in a lot of cases, weaker covers, quicker response, stronger covers, earlier, arcier motions. I'm I'm kind of seeing that especially because again, this ball is
just flaring a ton. Like it is ton of flare. All right, I'm going to jump way left. All right, asking a bit. Still plenty of oil out there. Could definitely play again a lot straighter like you seen a number of shots. So yeah. Yeah, I'm not mad. Not mad at all. All right, I'll throw like one or two
more shots like with each ball. Then we'll get to that the sports pattern. Yeah, it's just getting better and better, which I kind of find to be normal for a lot of the solids, you know? I'm thinking like even like the stealth mode like it got better the more you had opportunity to throw it and get some oil on the cover be even more direct. So yeah, I'm looking to get again feet currently
again at the dots closer to 15 at the at the foul line going to be closer to 20. >> All right. He had to extend a little bit. I think we're kind of blowing up some of that out of bounds. Try with the ghost. [Music] >> Yeah, ghost is like, "Nah, bro. Just be
a couple further left cuz it wants to go." Bang. definitely keep, you know, jamming that ball in there. And it's the ghost is one of the unique getting bowling balls just in general. Primal. Oh, I launched it, too. Yeah, that ball had no chance. I cut it
short. Didn't fall through at all. All right, up to the primal shock. kind of elbowed it. Yeah, this one definitely feels the primal shock definitely feels whippier. Like it just does like move left. I actually expect this one to even look smoother once we get to the pattern. I
think the pattern is going to kind of show that venom shock characteristic of pushing a little bit further once we see that amount of oil. I'm going jump about five left. [Music] Bang. >> So, I didn't feel like I really got around it that good, but it it managed. Go. Yeah, buddy. All right, so let's
jump to the left lane. All right, so we got a sport shot. Mark Ross, we're going to throw it out of box first, you know, before I touch the surface and go to what I think is going to be the absolute best. All right, so I'm jumping way to the right, right? So at the dots is saying 10. Um I'm probably going to get a lot closer to 15 at the foul line. [Music] Maybe I don't need to. Maybe. I don't
know. That looked pretty good. That first shot looked really, really good. So, so that interesting interesting You talking about >> try to ghost. >> Let's go. Ghost up the lane. >> $35.
Oh, bang. [Music] [Music] bring everything in.
Oh, >> all right. So, primals look pretty good. Um, definitely once you move left out of bounds has to be moved. So, I'm not trying to get this ball outside of five cuz it's going to rip back. So, you still got to get it. I feel like two about like eight like like about seven
probably seven is the better like and that's that that perfect zone. There she blows. Oh yeah, EJ's getting ready to whack him with this one. The first event like this is this this feels good. All right, let's go to the primal, though. The primal shaky. I don't think I threw this one up the lane. So, we're going to start by
throwing it straighter first. Oh, definitely still a smidge quicker. I mean, cleaner. So, like that one push. And I'll throw another shot with the primal uh with the ghost primal ghost of the lane to see. >> All right. So, yeah, at the foul line closer to 15. [Music]
All right. So, it's getting pretty responsive still. So, I think if I cheated just a pinch to the right, gave it a little left to right, I would have to be a little bit slower. And then I think that potentially could be an optimal zone. Could be. All right, one more with the primal. I'mma cheat just a little bit. Primal shock.
So, that looked pretty good. Now, I think the the ghost is going to pick up definitely a little bit earlier. Um, it still may it might look a little more controlled or it might look more violent. We got to figure that part out. All right. So, right now closer to like 23 at the foul line. So, actually that looks smoother. It did like that just kind of arked
Oh wow. And that's part of the trick, right? Like when you build on sport is the difference, right? Like it's not as easy to get to the puck when we start to move around the lane. Like you got to typically got to do something a little bit different whether it's ball rotation, um speed, right? So, I think I might need to after seeing that shot, like it kind of if I was to stay in that zone, right, I'm throwing a much stronger ball, right? And try to get rid of some of that oil and create something I can throw to. Um because both of
those, the Primal and the both Primals, I think, are going to look fine once we get left. And I'm just throwing it to the spot and watching their recovery. >> Yeah. like that. That zone down there is going to just open up more and more and more. So, all right. Standing left with a primal shock.
Yeah. So, got to get it to the right. This one a little bit more to the right. That's a goodie. Bang. So yeah, man. This has been pretty fun. Like not going to do a full game or anything. Uh but yeah, this is been like a ball that would I say it's the top end of the bag.
It feels like a universal, you know, symmetrical um that you can kind of throw on just about everything. like it's not too early, but it's not like too too clean where I felt like the Primal Shock actually was too clean at times. So again, in theory, right, I think this should slot above the Primal Shock with a stronger cover, earlier cover. So, and then definitely underneath than the the the original Jackal Ghost. So, yeah,
man. I think both balls are definitely going to be entertaining. You guys want to check them out? Should get the bossmart.com. Yeah, cuz I think it's really a goodie. I'mma throw one more and then we going to get out of here though. Yeah. So, definitely can get left. >> Yeah. Like a lot of forgiveness. Not as
sharp, but I feel like it's not as clean as getting like the Primal. Actually, I didn't throw a lot with the jackal. I'm gonna throw one more shot. I'm sorry. I was about to close it out, but at least not long at all. False. >> Ghost is good. Ghost is good. Definitely have more volume, go to the ghost. Maybe go to the primal. Primal goes, then you go to the primal
shop. Most people are probably just gonna go to a venom shop, honestly. So, but yeah, more stuff on the way. >> You sleeping on me, just keep snoozing. I'm so locked in,
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed that the Motiv Primal Ghost delivers a well-balanced performance across both house and sport patterns, positioning itself as a versatile mid-to-strong option in the Primal lineup. On a fresh house shot, the ball exhibited significant flare characteristics with the tested layout (45x4½x40), demonstrating strong recovery potential as lanes transitioned. Independent reviewers observed that out of the box, the reactive solid coverstock provided earlier arc and more aggressive motion compared to the cleaner Primal Shock, while still maintaining better control than the stronger Jackal Ghost. The symmetric core’s higher RG produced a cleaner initial motion down the lane, resisting early pickup while still delivering responsive backend reaction when conditions demanded it.
On the Mark Ross 43-foot sport pattern, the Primal Ghost proved capable and forgiving, though it required precision with positioning. Testing showed the ball responded well to the medium-heavy oil volume, with optimal play occurring in a narrower zone on the approach. Reviewers noted that as the pattern broke down and transitioned, the ball’s stronger coverstock allowed for earlier change of direction—a characteristic that became increasingly valuable through extended sessions. The ball demonstrated adequate length through the fronts without excessive skid, then offered predictable backend movement once friction increased. Surface adjustment consideration was mentioned, though testers found the out-of-box finish suitable for the conditions tested.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Primal Ghost suits intermediate to advanced bowlers seeking a dependable all-purpose ball that bridges the gap between cleaner, control-oriented equipment and more aggressive heavy hitters. This is an ideal choice for bowlers who throw on both house patterns and tougher sport shots, as it provides the responsiveness needed for varied oil volumes without feeling overly specialized. The symmetric core and solid coverstock combination makes it particularly appealing to players who want predictable motion characteristics and forgiveness—the ball won’t surprise you with erratic motion, but it will still make aggressive moves when conditions allow.
Bowlers upgrading from entry-level reactive equipment or looking to add a second solid to their arsenal will find the Primal Ghost a logical, mid-priced option at $199.95. It’s best suited for players who appreciate having one premium ball that handles multiple scenarios effectively, rather than requiring multiple pieces for different lane conditions. If you prefer straightforward, reliable performance without excessive fussiness in setup, this ball delivers the goods.
The Pros
- • Impulse V2 core at .050 differential generates serious hook potential for a symmetric ball
- • Coercion HFS solid coverstock provides reliable midlane traction on medium-heavy oil
- • Higher 2.55 RG pushes the ball further down the lane than expected given the aggressive surface
- • Strong, rolling pin action from the continuous arc motion
The Cons
- • The combination of high RG and solid cover can feel inconsistent as lane conditions shift quickly
- • 3000 grit solid coverstock requires regular surface maintenance to keep the reaction predictable
- • Not as versatile as hybrid or pearl options for changing conditions

Bowlers frequently mention:
Two legends come together to create a deadly combination. Introducing the PRIMAL GHOST. A combination of the Primal Impulse V2 Core and the Ghost Coercion HFS Solid Cover. With an RG of 2.55 and 055 diff this ball will dominate medium oil conditions such as a house shot. The Primal Ghost provides good midlane motion with smooth motion downlane and continuation through the pins For most this ball will land between the Lethal Venom and Sub Zero. If subzero is your go to ball then the Primal Ghost will be a great transition after Subzero. If Lethal provides midlane read but not enough downlane motion or continuation through the pins the Primal Ghost is perfect option I went with a slightly smaller drill angle to reduce hook window with a bit higher flaring layout. Pin to Pap 4 ¼ and smaller Val angle to provide more continuation 35 x 4 ¼ x 35
This is my ball, I am a Motiv fan so I was excited to try out this ball and so far, I am in the testing mode to find out where it fits in my bag. I used this for my first week in League and I felt it needed a little more pop on the back end for my game. So last week, I put 1000 grit to see if it will help me to keep up my speed and get that pop at the same time. But, In order for this ball to be effective, this ball has to be dropped on the early part of the lane so it can use the oil and carry to the dry part so that the big core can drive this ball to the ball. More importantly this ball reacts to hand movement so if you give this ball a lot of hand, it will hit the dry and take off. Overall, I bowled my highest series of the year and this ball was a big factor in helping me do this, the goal is to find out where it fits in your game.

Two LEGENDS have been combined to create a ball to compliment and house or tournament bag. MOTIV brings you the PRIMAL GHOST, a combination of the longest running asym ball on the market, matched with the fan fave PRIMAL. The Primals IMPULSE V2 CORE combined with the Ghosts COERCIONS HFS SOLID COVERSTOCK brings a ball that will dominate all medium house shots and give you great control on medium to long sport shots The high RG core promotes good length and the cover provides a smooth reaction If you are a fan of the Ghost, this is a great step down For most bowlers this will be a middle of the bag ball Great midlane read and a smooth reaction downlane.
One of my favorite times of being on Staff was the days of the Forge Fire and the Limited Edition T10. They are and will be two of my absolute favorite bowling balls of all time. Now, we have the Steel Forge and the Primal Ghost. I have been a huge fan of higher RG solids my entire competitive bowling career and this one takes the cake. Everything I ever loved about my favorite asym of all time, the Jackal Ghost, and everything I loved about the T10 and Primal line have been combined into one ball that dare I say, can do it all? It retains energy better than other big symmetric solids while still controlling the lane. It provides that proven Primal ball motion and pin action, while giving you, as the bowler, the control that the entire MOTIVnation and beyond have come to associate with the Jackal Ghost. This is a piece that anyone could keep in their bag as a benchmark ball as it is easily one of the utmost versatile balls I have ever thrown. I would recommend this one to every bowler out there. - MOTIV Bowling Staff member Anthony Evans
Hooks a lot more than I thought, very versatile ball. Much like my Venom Shock, but longer with more backend.
