Performance Analysis

Performance Analysis

The original Roto Grip Attention Star introduced the Momentous A.I. asymmetric core to the domestic market wrapped in an eTrax Plus Pearl Reactive coverstock with a Reacta Gloss factory finish. That combination put the ball firmly in the “clean through the fronts, strong off the dry” category — the pearl shell minimizes front-end friction, letting the asymmetric core store energy until the ball reaches the mid-lane break point. Reviewers consistently noted the ball’s ability to get down the lane on medium-heavy patterns without the early burn that plagues solid covers on lighter volumes of oil.

What separates the Attention Star from other pearl asymmetrics in the Roto Grip lineup is the strength of the Momentous A.I. core. With a 2.48 RG, .049 differential, and .017 intermediate differential, the ball flares hard and transitions sharply from skid to hook. On medium-heavy fresh, the ball reads at the break point and delivers a defined, angular backend rather than a rounded, rolly motion. This is the piece that helped establish Roto Grip’s reputation for asymmetric pearls that still have teeth — the S2 hybrid follow-up later traded some of that backend snap for a smoother, more controllable read, but the original Attention Star remains the benchmark for skip-snap motion in the line.

Who Is This Ball For?

The original Attention Star was built for bowlers who want pearl length with asymmetric core strength — tournament players looking for a second ball to open up the lane after their benchmark solid has hooked too early, and league bowlers on medium-heavy house shots who need backend recovery. Higher rev players get the most out of the core’s flare potential, but moderate rev bowlers with decent ball speed can also use it effectively by throwing straighter through the heads and letting the cover do its job at the break point.

As of 2026 the original Attention Star is out of stock and has moved to the archive. Bowlers shopping the current Roto Grip lineup for similar motion should look at the Attention Star S2, the hybrid follow-up that keeps the Momentous A.I. core but trades some of the pearl’s skip-snap for a smoother, more versatile read across a wider oil range.

The Pros

  • Pearl cover gets exceptional length through the front of the lane before the mid-lane read
  • Momentous A.I. asymmetric core with .017 mass bias produces strong, angular backend motion
  • Reacta Gloss factory polish keeps the ball clean on medium-heavy oil without burning up early
  • First domestic release of the Momentous core made this a benchmark pearl for the Roto Grip lineup

The Cons

  • Out of stock as of 2026 — now an archive piece; arsenal plans should consider the S2 hybrid as a successor
  • Pearl cover can struggle to read the heaviest fresh conditions without surface adjustment
  • Skip-snap motion rewards accuracy; bowlers who want early roll should look elsewhere

The newest release from Roto Grip has been my go to on our local house shots. First 3 sets have been 700+, 731 and 773. All at 3 different Centers. All 15 year old HPL. I'm right handed, 350-400 Rev rate and 16-17 mph recorded from the lanes speedometer. The 3 centers are The Cherry Bowl, Viking Lanes and Forest Hills here in Rockford IL. Great ball and deserves a place in your bag.

Roto Grip Attention Star Layout: 5 x 3.75 x 2.5 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center IKON Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane The Roto Grip Attention Star utilizes the eTrax Pearl Reactive cover along with the Momentous plus AI Core. We have the RG Attention Star a touch cleaner and weaker than the Exotic Gem, which the Diff numbers confirm. I drilled the Attention Star before league then threw it for 4 games on our house pattern. The ball was impressive. I consistent motion and great carry. I don’t feel it will be a ball for heavy oil but that is why we own more than one ball. When it is time for the Attention Star, this ball will shine. Roto Grip Attention Star Ball Review Layout VLS-5x4x2 Dual Angle-50x5x30 Surface-1000/4000 Grit Dull Roto Grip Attention Star wll be a great addition to the Roto Grip lineup. Attention Star features a new core used here in the US wrapped with the AI technology with the cover from the RST-X2. Attention star will fit right between the Gem series and the TNT series. Attention Star will be cleaner than the Exotic Gem but with a sharper move on the backend. In my lineup its stronger than my TNT Infused so when my TNT Infused isn't strong enough on the backend Attention Star will be my choice. Attached below is my link to my ball video. Roto Grips HP4 line gets another home run pearl ball, the Attention Star features a new core with Momentous AV + AI Tech and that is wrapped around the proven eTrax + Pearl. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and I’ve seen a few people throw this ball before I threw mine and was really excited about the motion. It is clean yet has a very defined forward motion in the back. This ball is more angular than the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout and doesn’t seem like much an stop it. Ive thrown it on a few patterns and it seems to roll good even when theres volume on the lane. It will defiantly be the second or third ball out of my bag on longer patterns once the front part of the lanes open up.

Roto Grip has done it again! Great colors on this one! What can I say about this ball...With me, 1st off out of the box, it went a little to long for me, the way I throw. So I hit it with a 3000 pad to get some of the Reacta Gloss off of it. I liked it a lot better to fit into a spot in my bowling bag. It might not be a 1st ball out of the bag on league night but it is close. I love watching it roll! The Momentous Core that was only for the international market, finally came to us, and it rolls so good! It gets attention just sitting on the rack! I can't wait to get more use out of this. If you get it, you will be happy for sure!
