I found both these balls to be a great bang for your buck. Low price entry point although with plenty of performance the Hustles will be excellent for those lower to medium oil conditions. The solid provided a pretty smooth reaction. Finished with a polish this ball is clean through the front part of the lane and provides plenty of predictability down lane without overreacting. I have a pin down layout on the solid which allows me to keep the shapes and angles in front of me and play more up the lane. As that begins to fade I can transition to the pinup M-M to get the ball to see the lane sooner and allow me to open my angles up. I really enjoyed both these balls and can see myself using them as my weakest balls in competition. The Hustle RIP is the reincarnation of the Hustle INK. If you liked that medium RG, ultra stable symmetrical shape with a cleaner solid cover, then the RIP is for you. The new Roto Grip Hustle RIP is the newest staple in the RG Line-up. The Hustle series has been proven in the past to be one of the best bang for your buck series on the market. The RIP, which has roots going back to the original Hustle INK, is looking to be one of the best lower-mid performance balls with mid-performance reaction. I drilled my RIP 4.75x4x4 2LS since that has been my go to layout in the past. I am beyond impressed with the reaction I get out of this ball as it hooked substantially more than my PBR did in the past. Compared to the Hustle PBR, the RIP is slightly cleaner and produces more angle on the back part of the lane. I was easily able to stand 5-6 boards further left with my RIP compared to my PBR and still have it go through the pins well. Roto Grip Hustle Royal Imperial Purple (RIP) Coverstock: VTC Solid Reactive Core: Hustle Factory Finish: Reacta Gloss Layout: 4 x 4 x 2 The Hustle series is one of my favorite lines in bowling. When the Hustle INK was discontinued, it left quite a void in the bag. The RIP not only has that INK look, it also has the combination of length and control that made the INK such a timeless piece for years. Another selling point of the RIP is that it is not allergic to oil. It seems to handle itself well on our 43 ft house pattern that has quite a bit of volume in the center of the pattern. As normal, summers are for sport pattern sweepers and very little league. Although it does look great on house, my experience with the RIP so far has been on mainly on sport patterns when I am able to get left and open up the lane after the pattern stretches a bit. Layout: 5x4x3. The new Hustle RIP is one of the best bang for your buck bowling balls on the market. For me, the RIP is slightly cleaner than the INK was, with very similar shapes overall. This ball is a go to when the lanes burn up, but you are still looking for that mid-lane read and smooth transition down-lane, as opposed to going to something cleaner like the IQ Tour Ruby or Fate. I have also found this to be very useful on fresh house shots when you want to keep your angles in front of you and control the lane. For me, this ball is an excellent step down from an IQ Tour Edition or a Phaze 2. When you consider what this piece offers you, at the price you pay, I give it a 10/10 every time. Thank you.

Hey everyone, I'm back with another ball review, and this time it's for the Roto Grip Hustle M-M Pearl In 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the VTC (Versatile Traction Control) Pearl Coverstock and comes with Reacta Gloss with an RG of 2.53, Diff of .030. Depending on the Hustle M-M’s surface, bowlers can use this on low-to-medium oil conditions. There are not many balls that can cover a variety of conditions, especially at an entry-level price point. To give a comparison the Hustle RIP will glide just a tad through the front of the lane compared to the Hustle M-M. The new Hustle RIP has been compared to the Hustle INK of yesteryear and for good reason, it's incredibly smooth up front AND down the lane, and somehow manages to give you plenty of angle through the pins at the same time...a very unique combo that blends all the best attributes of control and flip all at the same time. I drilled mine with my normal benchmark layout of 4.5x4x2. On fresh oil, this was simply a beast. The higher RG and lower differential allowed me to play a little farther right than normal which is extremely nice, and allows you to stay in that ball a little longer than maybe something that forces you left immediately. A great mid lane motion all the way through the pins, until I got to around 22-23 at the arrows, at which point I started seeing some laziness unless I was extremely crisp at release, which told me it was time to get into the Hustle M&M and keep going from there. The RIP and the M&M are an incredible 1-2 combo! This is an incredibly versatile ball with usability for all styles!

It features the VTC Solid coverstock, which is a medium to lower strength cover. The core is the Hustle core, which comes in at a 2.53 RG and .030 differential in 15 pounds. On paper, it’s a reskin of the Hustle Camo, and on the lane it’s very close, while also giving very strong Hustle Ink vibes. I’ve used the Hustle RIP on several different conditions at a couple different surfaces. First, the box Reacta Gloss surface hasn’t been great for me, so I resurfaced it to 1000 grit on a resurfacing machine, and then finished it with Storm’s Step 2 compound. The result was a clean round arc. It’s rounder than the Camo and very close indeed to the Hustle Ink, and is the same overall strength as both. For whatever reason I think the Camo handles angle better, and the RIP is marginally cleaner. I ended up taking a worn 3000 pad to it by hand to crack the shine to blend it out a little but still retain the general reaction. The RIP is very similar to a longer and sharper IQ Tour, which makes it very usable and throwable on a wide variety of conditions. It’s a little too clean and weak to be a first ball out of the bag in league unless you have a lot of friction, and I would recommend using a slight bit of surface on it to strengthen and blend the reaction a little. Overall it fits well in its price point as far as total hook potential, but overshoots it quite a bit when it comes to performance, it’s one of the best bangs for your buck on the market.

The Hustle series has been a staple in my bag for the last few years especially due to my personal success with the Hustle CAMO. The low diff (.030) on these balls make them ideal for the house patterns in my area as they are very low volume/high friction and weaker equipment is necessary for a lot of people. I drilled this one 3.75 x 3.5 (little bit weaker than my CAMO) putting the pin just below my bridge. This ball is a pretty significant step down from the XPONENT as I was able to play at least a full arrow right with a similar target down lane. Weak, shiny solids have been very successful for me as they allow for front of lane clearance with good control down lane without having to move way left. As with most balls in the Hustle line, the RIP likely won't be conducive to heavier volume and/or much longer patterns. The Hustle RIP is a very clean ball, clearing the lane heads easily and providing a good continuous motion in the back-end. By numbers it's not a very strong ball, but I would say it out-performs most balls in it's price point. I was able to use the RIP on the fresh condition playing closer to the friction. The ratio made it a little touchy as it could over-react when it saw friction too soon. I was very happy with the ease that it cleared the front of the lane, as the lane beds have a lot of early friction. The Hustle RIP really shines as the lane begins to transition. It is one of the most dependable balls I've ever thrown in terms of clearing the front, reading the end of the pattern and giving predictable, continuous down-lane motion. It also responds really well to speed and hand position changes, allowing you to stay in the ball for a long time as the lanes change. The Hustle RIP will be very popular for many bowlers. I drilled my Hustle RIP (5 x 4 x 4 ¼) for the purpose of using it as a ball down from the IQ tour. For those who have been following the Roto Grip, The Hustle Ink has been recreated as the Hustle RIP. The ball is very clean and needs to be hit with a little surface to slow down. Bowling balls like the Hustle are great for house shots and later games in a tournament. For those who roll the ball slower Hustles are also fantastic bench mark balls.

The new Hustle RIP (Royal Imperial Purple) features the tried-and-true Hustle core wrapped in the VTC Reactive Solid cover stock. At 15 pounds the RG is 2.53 and the differential is .030. I drilled this ball at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge) to replace my Hustle Ink. The Ink in my opinion was the best ball ever made for the price. The RIP is very similar to the Ink. The ball just seems to glide along the lane in a very controlled arcing motion. The RIP starts up about 2-3 feet sooner than the M&M and has a much more controlled backend motion. This ball will see a lot of action on my league patterns. I can play just inside the “cliff” and feed the RIP to the dry and it will just ease its way back to the pocket. Another one of those balls that won’t wow you with an overall hook or massive backend reaction. The only place it wows you is on the scoresheet. Dollar for dollar, the best ball on the market.

One of the latest additions to the HP1 line at Roto Grip is the Hustle RIP. This puts the pin near my ring finger and a decent shift of the CG. I’ve also scratched the surface with a 3000 pad to make sure the ball isn’t too shiny and rolls consistently. If you need a ball for lanes with less volume, or if you’re new to the game and are looking for great performance at a lower price point, the Hustle RIP from Roto Grip should be the next ball you drill.

I drilled up my HUSTLE RIP 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.5. This is my usual layout for lower diff balls. I hit the surface with a light 2000 to crack the shine and smooth the reaction out. I put the HUSTLE RIP up against the RUBY RED IQ and HUSTLE M & M. The RIP was right in the middle of these two balls. The M & M was later than the RIP but not as sharp as the RUBY IQ was off the spot. The HUSTLE RIP was at home for me on a med to med dry to pattern when my stronger RUBY was locking up. It also was a good compliment to the M & M as they played off one another pretty well. I feel that the HUSTLE RIP will get play as a 2nd ball out of the bag at places with some early friction burn in the fronts and also when the big pearls are starting to lock up and lay flat down lane but the low powered gear is not enough yet.

Layout: 35 x 4 1/8” x 40 For the masses looking for a re-release of the vaunted Hustle Ink, this is about as close as you can possibly get. The RIP is incredible easy through the heads and has a smooth, consistent hard arc in the back part of the lane...just like the Ink. Not to mention that the color somewhat reminds me of that ball, as well. I (and many others) consider the Hustle Ink to be one of the best balls that has come out of the Storm facilities in the last 10 years, so any allusions to that ball is of the highest regard. The RIP can handle medium oil, especially with the cover taken to 3000 or 4000, but it is most at home on broken down shots that resemble medium-light oil.

If you were a fan of the Hustle INK, look no further! This is its replacement and my oh my is it amazing! Smooth controllable and predictable are the words that come to mind! What more can you want from a Hustle? I can go to this ball later on at night and never worry if it's going to be not enough.

Compared to the Hyped Solid this ball is going to be cleaner because of the polish but is a step down in overall ball shape. This will be a great late block ball when balls like the Hustle M+M are still too clean. This will be great higher rev bowlers and even the first-time league bowler. Bowler Stats: Speed: 15.5 MPH Rev Rate: 275 RPM Tilt: 3-5 degrees Axis Rotation: 60 degrees PAP: 5 ⅜ over 1 ¼ up Layout: 41/2 X 41/2 X 21/2 VLS Being a lower rev rate bowler I don’t use many of the lower end pieces in the line but with the release of the RIP I decided I needed a weaker ball for patterns when I’m bowling in tournaments. The iQ Tour solid gives me the length I need but when it begins to hook too early I want something I can ball down to with a similar shape and the Hustle RIP does just that. With this ball having a weaker core I chose a 4 ½ inch pin, rather than my normal 5 inch pin placement, and the 2 ½ inch pin buffer to get the ball to read the dry earlier. The reacta gloss polish did make it a little too clean in the fronts so I removed it with a 2000 pad by hand and I’m letting the cover lane shine until I see any wiggle off the end of the pattern. Once that occurs I just keep it at a mat finish to eliminate the over / under reaction. When compared to the Hype Solid but it has more length and is quicker off the dry than the slower Hyped Solid. I used this ball during the PBA 50 event in Hammond on the 42’ Mark Roth pattern. I will also be testing it out during the league season. Got mine laid out at 45x4x20. Threw it down the lane during 11th and 12th game. 231 and 245. Fresh out of the box. What else is there to say? Should’ve brought it out a few games sooner. Just maybe a little higher scores? We will see. My very first Hustle by the way.

The solid cover with the reacta gloss finish helps me throw this ball straight at spares but yet gives me a light oil/ burn league and a burn tournament ball on challenge pattern. Best reaction seems for me to be keeping my angles tighter and straighter.
