Personally I haven’t had/needed a ball in this slot for sometime. I decided to get the HR40 as I have made some pitch changes and just decided to drill a new ball instead of plugging and redrilling something I already was using and this was a great chance to throw a Hy-Road ball. I tested it the same time as the ION Pro Solid and wasn’t 100% sold on it as I felt and see a ball like the Typhoon to be a better option at times. The very next day I had a coaching session and decided to throw the HR40 again. I was able to get left and started to really like what Isaw from this ball. Now on day one testing I had to move right and throw it into the dry to see reaction. Day two I started on 20 and was throwing it into the track and I kept moving 2-3 boards each shot and was looking much better over the ION Pro Solid. Between working the PBA LBC and Junior Gold I will keep these in my bag and give them more lane time to shine or replace with the Typhoon.

The Hy-Road 40 celebrates 40 years of innovation by creating another staple in the legacy of the Hy-Road series of balls. Using inverted Fe2 Tech, wrapped in A1S Pearl Cover finished with Power Edge, the Hy-Road 40 gives a fresh look of a trusted name in the world of bowling. Unlike most balls, the Hy-Road 40 lacks core material allowing for a thicker shell. A much higher energy transfer to the pins with less deflection. As I’m a speed dominant player, on fresh, I was able to stay right up the boards with it. I didn’t see any loss of energy, however, I wasn’t able to get enough response when moving way left on fresh. When the lanes started to break down, I was able to move left and inside of original target and got through the pins effortlessly. Reminds me a lot of the original Hy-Road Pearl. If you are looking for something to go longer downlane and hit hard, the Hy-Road 40 will not disappoint.

Storm’s new Hyroad 40 is a Pearl Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume patterns. Same Cover as the Phaze II but different Core. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and the CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a Fresh house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts with a strong backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Road Warrior. Road Warrior (3-3 Left) was similar through the fronts but had a sharper backend reaction. If you are a fan of the original Hyroad this is a piece you will want in your bag.

The Hy-Road 40 might be my favorite ball for when the lanes get messy. The higher RG really helps that ball to give it a smoother transition. I was also pleasantly surprised how well this ball performed when I moved in and played the lanes a little tighter than I normally would. I was able to get a real consistent motion as far as how it got to the pins and a lot less deflection than normal. This good be a staple in most tournament bags especially on some of the shorter patterns.

As a bowler who's spent countless frames with the Hy-Road series, the new Hy-Road 40 offers an exciting twist on a familiar favorite, especially when stacking it up against the original Hy-Road and the Road Warrior. The Hy-Road 40, celebrating Storm's 40 years, feels like a souped-up version of the original; where the classic Hy-Road provided that legendary clean push through the fronts and a super predictable, continuous arc downlane, the Hy-Road 40's new A1S Pearl Reactive coverstock makes it read the mid-lane noticeably sooner and sharper, great for when the lanes transition and you need a strong, defined move back to the pocket without over-skidding. Compared to the Road Warrior, which is a bit smoother and more controlled off the spot, making it a fantastic benchmark pearl for medium oil, the Hy-Road 40 definitely offers more overall hook and a more aggressive backend. It's the "show pony" of the family, designed for those moments when you need that "Power Rangers" kind of backend motion and can confidently play deeper angles, shining when stronger balls are too early and the Road Warrior isn't quite aggressive enough downlane.

The Hyroad 40 is Storms newest thunder line release. The Hyroad 40 features there same Inverted FE2 core as the OG Hyroad. The Hyroad 40 is unique in that it does not feature the AI outer core found in the last few Hyroad releases. The Hyroad 40 is a true two piece ball. The Hyroad 40 is wrapped in A1S cover and finished with power edge. This produces an earlier and rounder shape compared to the OG Hyroad. The Hyroad 40 is now available for purchase from any Storm VIP Pro Shop!

Drilled my Storm Hyroad 40 (4 x 4 x 2). Medium Rev rate and medium speed bowler. The Storm Hyroad 40 is silky smooth through the front part of the lane storing energy to make a strong angular movement coming off the end of the pattern smashing the pins as the Storm Hyroad 40 drives through the pin deck. The Storm Hyroad 40 will be a great ball for lighter oil patterns or after the transition has settled down and the pattern has started to break down.

Storm Bowling HyRoad 40 celebrates 4 decades of Storm Innovation.Hyroad 40 uses the orginal Hyroad weight block wrapped with the A1S pearl coverstock. The A1S pearl coverstock was used in the Equinox which is a very fast oil absorbing coverstock. The HyRoad 40 is going to create and clean motion through the fronts with a strong backend motion on medium lane conditions. The HyRoad 40 will be a great stepdown when your Phaze 2 is too early and you need more length.I have found that the Hyroad 40 will fit nicely between the Typhoon and the Phaze 2 but not as long as the Typhoon.I also comapred it to the Road Warrior the HyRoad 40 had a stronger motion on the backend.

The Storm Hy-Road 40 utilizes the A1S pearl reactive cover along with the proven Inverted Fe2 Core. What can I say that hasn’t already been said about the Hy-Road series. For one, the Pineapple Apple Crisp scent is off the charts. The Hy-Road 40 is a touch stronger than its predecessors, which is to be expected with improved technology.

This non-A.I. offering in the Hy-Road series feels like a throwback, while providing performance for modern conditions. I have tried this ball on the league pattern and on some tougher stuff, and this ball really excels on flatter/more blended conditions by providing a TON of length and recovery, while still being relatively predictable and consistent. I have loved this ball as a 2 or 3 ball on medium-friction conditions, when i need a cleaner cover and/or higher RG to battle hook in the front part of the lane. This is a great medium ball for rev-dominant players as well as a great option as "weaker" ball that still brings plenty of performance.

The new Hyroad 40 brings back the original Inverted Fe2 from the original Hyroad series but this time paired up with the A1S pearl coverstock from the Equinox. The strong pearl coverstock gives the ball more opportunity to shine in today's higher oil environments. Since the cover is stronger, it is a little smoother reaction then the original Hyroad Pearl.
I got to try this ball on a typical 44ft house pattern. The stronger coverstock allows the ball to be a little bit more in play on the fresh. Although, not truly ideal, it can be used on the fresh if the environment is right. For me, the environment was not quite right as expected. The high RG of the Hyroad 40 gives me too much length for my style and is a better transition ball for me. Once there was enough transition on the lanes, I was able to play more of my comfort zone of 15 to 7 range. As there was more defined hook to the right, the ball became much easier to use and continued well. Compared to the Road Warrior, I saw more midlane strength and smoother ball motion. The Road Warrior saw the friction much harder with the same surface. I can potentially see having both balls in the bag if the surfaces are prepped slightly different. I would recommend the Hyroad 40 for anyone who just likes the shape of the Hyroad series but wants an updated model. For angle, I think the Road Warrior is a better choice with the AI Technology. For heavier oil, the Hyroad 40 will have a better look on the lane overall from left to right.

Absolutely love this ball. Plugging in cleaner higher RG and High Diff balls to my arsenal is something much needed for my arsenal. I have a tendency to either see early hooking lanes or tightness down lane. The high rg high diff nature of the ball allows it to get through the front yet fight off the tightness down lane and continue through the pins. I like how this is earlier than the Hy-Road Pearl as it allows it to read the mid lane much better and provides more control. This ball is great for game 3 and on for me after the stronger or balls with more surface start to fade away.

The Hy-Road 40 is more than a Storm anniversary release or a replacement for the beloved Hy-Road Pearl. The Hy-Road 40 is an excellent combination of a proven Inverted Fe2 core wrapped with Storm's most cutting-edge Pearl coverstock, the A1S. Together, this core and coverstock combination makes the Hy-Road 40 a fantastic symmetrical ball that belongs in any arsenal, especially for those straighter players like me. So, stop into your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today and have your Storm Hy-Road 40 ready to roll. Your scores will thank you!

Very clean, very controllable. Good ball for late in a league night when you need to blend out the cliff.
The new HyRoad 40 features the tried-and-true Inverted Fe2 core and wraps it in the A1S pearl reactive coverstock previously found on the Equinox. The HyRoad 40 is finished with Power Edge and at 15 pounds has an RG of 2.57 and a differential of .046. This ball was released to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of SPI products, so you know this ball must be something special. I love the color as it brings back memories to the ball that started it all, the Pearl Teal Storm. I drilled mine with my favorite layout, 4x4x2 which put the pin above the bridge. The combination of the stronger pearl coverstock and the Inverted Fe2 core makes this ball more predictable and controllable than the original HyRoad. The 40 is still very clean through the fronts, but the A1S coverstock picks up sooner than the R2S Hybrid cover found on the original. This causes the 40 to be a little sooner and smoother to the pocket. Don’t get me wrong, the 40 still makes a strong move to the pocket but it is much more predictable which makes this ball one of my favorites already. This ball is perfect for medium conditions when you need something to open up your angles and still be able to kick out those corners. This ball marks Storm’s 40th anniversary, but it is so good, it should be in the line up for many years to come!
What’s there to say about a Hy-Road? I was 12 years late on the Hy-Road bandwagon, but now can’t imagine bowling without one. The Inverted Fe2 core seems to match up very well with me. I never got a Hy-Road pearl, so I don’t have that to compare it to. When I heard about the Hy-Road 40, I expected it to have R2S on it, but was pleasantly surprised to see it get the A1S pearl from the Equinox. A1S is a stronger cover than R2S is and I think that will make it a little more usable and still allow me to move down to the weaker Hy-Road if necessary. While I’ve really like the A.I. outer core, I think these higher RG, medium differential balls without the A.I. outer core still have their place. I’ve thrown the Hy-Road 40 in two different practice sessions and it’s definitely living up to the very high expectations I have for anything that comes out of Utah with a Hy-Road label.

Storm Hyroad 40
The color of the Hyroad 40 reminds me of the Idol Cosmos – which is a good thing, because I liked that ball quite a bit. I actually think that because of that, the reaction of the Hyroad 40 also reminds me of the Idol Cosmos if a light layer of shine was added to the cover. The HyRoad 40 is quite clean through the fronts without ever feeling skid-flip, more like skid-controllable hard arc. It is at home on medium to medium-light oil conditions, though with some surface it can handle a good bit of oil if straighter angles are used. Out of box, I find it to be an excellent symmetric-cored companion to the asymmetric-cored Ion Pro Solid, which has a touch more overall motion.

The hy-road 40 is my go to ball for when the lanes start to transition. When everything starts to over hook this ball will maintain its line and pack a punch. The Hy-road 40 has the Inverted Fe2 from the original Hyroad but paired up with the A1S pearl coverstock making this an awesome combo on the lanes

Ball info: Inverted Fe2 weight block with A.I. outer core technology with all new A1S coverstock finished at 2000 ab with Power Edge factory finish. The layout is 4.5 x 5 x 2.75.
Bowler facts: My updated specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 1/2 up 1/2.
Tested on Pro-lane surface and older HPL on 44 ft house patterns with lower volume used for the junior and senior leagues, 44 ft house patterns with larger volume, and patterns that ranged from 33 ft to 39 ft sport patterns.
How do you improve on the longest production ball in Storm’s incredible history? You wrap the weight block with A.I. technology and bring the coverstock up to 2025 technology.
The all-new Hy-Road 40 is fast becoming my favorite symmetric pearl ball currently and for the foreseeable future.
With the fall leagues starting up in a few weeks for me, I wanted to freshen-up my league bags with some favorites and then add a few new pieces. I started with adding the Ion Pro Solid and Gremlin, so I wanted to add a new Rock Star with a 2 x 6 x 3 layout to replace the one I used very extensively at the end of last year’s bowling season, and a new Hustle and I selected the EARTH. So, I wanted to add a new symmetric pearl and I was comparing the Equinox, iQ Tour A.I., and the new Hy-Road 40 to take the place of my used up Equinox from last year. I compared the 3 on fresh and used lane conditions and the Hy-Road 40 came out to be the best choice for me due to overall performance. The Equinox had a little less “pop” through the back ends and the iQ Tour was too quick off the spot without changing the surface too much. The Hy-Road 40 was clean and consistent the whole time I was testing and bowling with the 3 of them to make my choice. Slower off of the pattern and less angle in the backend which is more what I like to see. The Hy-Road 40 held up through the transition better than the other 2 choices for me. The Hy-Road 40 will fit very well in the middle of my league bags for the start of the 2025-2026 bowling season.
My league bags will have the Rock Star #1, Ion Pro Solid, Hy-Road 40, which is replacing my Equinox, RST Hyper Drive, the all new Gremlin which is replacing my Attention Star, and finally Hustle Earth.
With the fall leagues just around the corner, check out your local pro shop for all the information on the all new summer and Bowl Expo releases and look out for the Storm Matchmaker Live! events near you.

Layout is 60 x 4 1/2 x 30 (Dual Angle) or 4 1/2 x 4 7/8 x 1 7/8 (Vector)
This HyRoad 40 most definitely doesn’t disappoint! It provides a clean roll through the fronts and provides a smooth, quick, yet predictable motion once it responds to the friction. The A1S pearl coverstock, which is on the Equinox, and the famous Inverted Fe2 core provides a great combination on drier lanes. I really likes how it goes through the pin deck with it’s continuation and power.
If you are true fan of the HyRoads, you will enjoy this HyRoad 40! Cheers to Storm Products, Inc. for 40 years in the business!

Great Ball, but for my low rev rate 310 and speed of 16mph it was just too close to my Phaze 2 Pearl. I wanted a down ball and this was just too close for my playstyle. My bad on the research as I probably should have gone typhoon/Hustle. Expensive lesson learned. Great ball however. It is much stronger than you would think according to write up and numbers.
