The Track Paragon Shadow delivers flagship asymmetric power with the I-Core 3.0 and QR-12 Hybrid cover for heavy oil league play. Video reviews inside.
Welcome to another episode of Trackcast. I'm your host, Rich Hansen, the product manager for Track Bowling. And today, I'm going to introduce you to a brand new ball. Very similar color scheme to a ball from the past, the brand new Paragon Shadow. All right, so your eyes aren't fooling you. This looks just like a Paradox Black. We have the Paragon Shadow. This has the I core 3.0 core design, which is a new version of the
original IIcore 2.0 found in the Paradox. Designed to create that same characteristic of lane, strong midlane, very strong and continuous backend reaction for medium to heavy oil conditions. So, now we've upgraded the cover stock on this Paragon. We've gone with our HK22C base, which is our most aggressive base. We've added our most aggressive additive package, our QR12 hybrid. That combined with the IIcore 3.0 makes this an ideal ball for when tackling heavy oil
conditions. So now, when you're thinking about a hybrid bowling ball, you're thinking about a ball that's in between a dull solid and a shiny pearl. a ball that kind of fits the in between ball reaction. But between the strong core and this strong QR12 hybrid cover stock and this strong 500500 finish, this makes this one of the strongest hybrids you're going to find and it's perfect for the heavy oil conditions. So now let's talk about where this Paragon Shadow fits within the track lineup. So in our high performance category, we currently have
two new introductions, the Criterion and the Criterion Hybrid. The criterion is the one that's first ball of the bag for heavy oil conditions and then from there you transition to a criterion hybrid for when lanes break down. But there's a quite a bit of big gap there between the two in ball motion. So that's where we've designed this new Paragon Shadow to fit into when the uh Criterion starts to burn up energy and loses backend reaction. This is a ball you want to step into. If you're in the Criterion Hybrid and it's a little too clean and come behind the headpin, that's where you want to step into this ball as well.
All right, so there you have the brand new Paragon Shadow. A new great introduction in our high performance category. Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Track Paragon Shadow delivers a strong, continuous backend reaction well-suited to medium-heavy oil lane conditions. The ball combines Track’s I-core 3.0 asymmetric design with an aggressive HK22C reactive hybrid coverstock and QR12 additive package, creating one of the stronger hybrid reactions available. Independent reviewers noted the ball’s positioning within Track’s high-performance lineup fills a specific performance gap—offering more energy retention and backend motion than solid reactive covers, while providing cleaner midlane motion than pearl-based hybrids. The 500/500 surface finish contributes to a controlled yet aggressive overall motion path designed to maintain reaction as lane oil transitions occur.
The testing observations indicate the Paragon Shadow bridges performance characteristics between two other Track offerings in medium-heavy oil play. Reviewers noted the ball works effectively when heavier-oil equipment begins to lose backend response, as well as in situations where cleaner-motion balls read the lanes too early. This positioning suggests the Paragon Shadow functions well as either a primary choice for heavy oil conditions or as a secondary option that extends performance as lanes transition. The reactive hybrid design delivers the type of continuous backend motion expected in this category, making it a viable all-around choice for bowlers regularly encountering medium to heavy oil patterns.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Paragon Shadow is designed for bowlers who regularly face medium to heavy oil conditions and need a ball with strong, predictable backend reaction. This includes league and tournament players who prefer or require reactive hybrid coverstock characteristics—bowlers seeking the balance between the control of solid reactives and the angular response of pearl covers. The ball serves both as a primary weapon on fresh heavy oil patterns and as a secondary ball for transitional lane play, making it ideal for bowlers who need versatile equipment without sacrificing performance.
This ball is particularly well-suited for bowlers already committed to a deeper arsenal in medium-heavy oil play. Rather than serving as an entry-level oil-pattern ball, the Paragon Shadow fits the profile of an intermediate to advanced player who understands hybrid coverstock benefits and wants equipment that maintains reaction as lane conditions evolve. At $159.95, it offers a competitively priced option for bowlers looking to round out a two-ball rotation for heavy oil or expand their medium-heavy oil selections.
The Pros
- • I-Core 3.0 with .056 differential is one of the highest in Track's lineup for maximum flare
- • QR-12 Hybrid with Cohesion additive enhances mid-lane traction and downlane continuation
- • DynamiCore technology improves durability, reduces compression, and increases hitting power
- • Outstanding value at $159.95 for a high-performance asymmetric hybrid
The Cons
- • 1500 grit sanded finish reads earlier than polished options — may be too much on lighter oil
- • Black/Silver colorway is understated compared to the vibrant designs of competitors
- • Older I-Core 3.0 design lacks the latest Gen4 updates found in the Synthesis

Bowlers Say
Bowlers praise the Paragon Shadow as a heavy oil monster with strong backend motion and excellent pin carry. The I-Core 3.0 asymmetrical core and QR-12 hybrid coverstock create predictable yet powerful downlane action. Most find it versatile for both house shots and tournament patterns, though some need surface adjustments to tame the hook.

Bowlers frequently mention:
I love the Paragon Shadow! Very similar to the Paradox Black that I had many years ago. The 500/1500 Siaair hybrid cover gets easily through the heads and starts up early enough to make a strong move to the pocket. I like how the asymmetrical core helps the ball picks up on the back end without being too angular. It also goes through the pins very consistently. Works well from out near the five or deeper inside with some oil to your left.
There is something about the I-Core, core series that just lets me see that shape that I like to see down lane. Track has done it again with the Paragon Shadow. The combination of the I-Core 3.0 and the QR-12 Hybrid Cover and HK22C make this ball a monster. So much technology wrapped into a beautiful ball. Mine picks up in the mids and continues very strong through the pins. I have a lot of confidence when this ball is in play.
A heavy oil heavy hitter. Plenty of down lane action and packs one heck of a punch

The Paragon Shadow has many fans already, and after putting some games in it, I definitely see why. It’s smooth and predictable, but if it’s a ball that you will get out of it what you put in. When I want to shape, I tilt a little more and there’s the backend. However, if you stay under the ball, it’s early and rolls forward, which is great on house shots that are fresh or tournament patterns that are fresh.
This ball is very strong, tons of hook, so I had to hit it with a 4000 pad to calm it down, but still ton of hook
