900 Global Reality Check Review

layout: 30 x 4.5 x 30 Surface: box - 4k Fast I was very excited about this Reality Check considering how much I liked the Altered Reality. The Reality Check brings back the Disturbance core found in the previous Reality balls while using the brand new S84 Beta Hybrid coverstock. What I noticed out of this new coverstock was more parts pearl than solids in the hybrid. I got more length and more backend than I saw out of my Altered Reality. House Shot Pattern Testing: I saw a very usable ball reaction on the typical house shot. This ball gave the reaction that a lot of bowlers are looking for: length, angle, and great pin carry. It was also very easy to get this ball to strike because of its predictability due to the large disturbance core. The reality check tended to due the right thing quite often and made it easy to strike often. I think this will be a great league ball for many different styles and will work fairly well on both higher volumes and some lower volume oil patterns depending on your style. I wouldn’t be afraid to shine this ball up to a 1500 grit polished finish to see even more length and angle. Sport Shot Testing: I tried the Reality Check on the 43ft Earl Anthony PBA Pattern. What I saw out of this on the fresh was typically what you would see on a more angular ball. It was a little tough to control the breakpoint and was slightly too angular. Once the lane started to break down and I was able to open my angles up more, this ball really shined well. It handled the heavier oil volume well and continued very well through the pins. This ball would be a great step down from the original reality or a step up in hook and angle from the Zen Master or Zen Soul. I can see this being a really good tournament transition ball for many styles when bowling on medium to longer oil patterns. Bringing the surface down to 1000 or 2000 grit will give this ball more control and more usability on fresher oil conditions if that reaction is desired. Adam Chase Storm Staff

This is a good Hybrid piece for Medium-Heavy Oil Patterns. If you are looking for a hockey stick motion, this is the piece to get. Hybrid cover gets through the fronts with a sharp backend motion. Overall, this is about 2-3 more than the Reality with a stronger backend motion. The Reality Check is the strongest reaction ever for 900 Global.

Good ball. Pretty angular, though I'd say not as much as the Reality. Went pin down with mine, mass bias basically just a tiny bit out of the thumb to get a bit of a sharper reaction and love how this ball looks right now. Can play the fresh or the burn, pretty versatile.

The Reality Check is the newest release in the 900 series from 900 Global. This ball features the same Disturbance asymmetrical core as the first two Reality but has a new hybrid cover in the S84 Beta which is finished with the new Fast 4K. The intent of this cover was to create a similar hook potential of the S84 Response but a very different backend shape. I drilled mine 5 x 5.5 x 2 and after my first practice session with it, I was very impressed about the shape this ball create compared to the others. I always thought the Reality and Altered Reality had a tendency to rev up super quick and burn up quick but when they matched up with the right volume and pattern length these balls were really good and still will be. The Reality Check was a lot cleaner motion and you could tell that this ball got down the lane and still make a great motion to the pocket. I can see myself using this ball on medium length fresh patterns that have some friction to it and some longer patterns latter in blocks when I need to control the friction. This is going to be a very popular ball because of the different motion it makes and will continue to keep the Reality line one of the best asymmetrical lines in bowling today !

The Reality Check is the cleanest of all 3 Reality’s. Even though the Altered Reality has the pearl cover stock, it still started hooking earlier than the Reality Check did for me. I’ve only thrown this ball a handful of times so far, and they were all on drier house conditions. I was able to move as far left as I wanted with the Reality Check, and the ball continued to hook back and go through the pins. If you add some surface to it, I feel like it can be a good ball for playing up the lane. But, I believe I’m going to allow it to lane shine, and use the ball when I need to throw it left to right. For me, this ball fits in between my Nova and RST X2. The Reality Check reads a little sooner than the Altered Reality but not as soon as the Reality, but it still has same strong reaction on the backend. I tested this ball on a 42 feet typical house pattern with a lot of down lane transition. As mid to low rev player I was able to play to the right of twenty and left of twenty without losing any carrying power. My ball layout is 50x5x40. 900 Global Reality Check Layout: 60 x 2 x 70 Finish: 4k FAST Lane types and pattern types: HPL lane panels with 48ft THS pattern and SPL panels with 46ft THS. Since I added a longer pin Asyms in my bag earlier this summer with the very versatile Storm Infinite Physix, I decided to go back to my normal P2P layouts that I normally use Asyms pieces, like the all new Reality Check. When myself and Mike Sinek saw this core, we were truly stoked about it. Reminds us of an older line from Roto Grip that we both had great success with a “few” years ago. We texted and called each other to talk about the new Disturbance core and how it will fit into the Global line very well. The Reality was a good all-around Asyms for me, and the Altered Reality was really sharp and crisp for me, most of the time on THS, it was too much. Then the RAD R&D guys at SPI came up with the ultimate solution, developing a cover similar to the S84 response cover that still gave great length, but with a stronger amount of backend shape. On the lanes I was quite cautious at the start knowing how wicked the new Infinite Physix was, but once I got more and more shots with the Reality Check, I realized it was quite surprising “calm” in the middle part of the lane, less angle then the Infinite Physix and also was able to move anywhere on both house patterns and felt comfortable making good shots over and over again. I was able to assist in three SPI Matchmaker events in three different states, three different lane types and length of patterns, and by far the Reality Check was the most asked for ball in all three events, from the 2 handed youth all the way up to the 72 year old that was getting back into bowling after several years of being out of the sport, it was the BEST versatile Asym ball I have had the pleasure to drill and use.

While I don't believe the Reality Check was designed to be a direct replacement of the Altered Reality, it has worked out to be one for me. The S84 Beta Hybrid cover is clean and responsive down-lane, creating a powerful shape and explosive hit through the pins. I first tested the Reality check on our high volume 43 foot house pattern. This ball is very unique in that I feel like I can basically take it out of my bag at any time and find it useful. It has the power of the rest of the Reality series and I don't have problems with it being over-under on the fresh. It's also fantastic as the heads go away and force you left. It's clean cover will push down-lane better than any ball on the market that has a similarly powerful core and it creates angle from virtually anywhere you want to play the pattern. I also took the reality check with me to nationals this year. While the back-ends were so quick for all events that I didn't think I would need it, I did end up throwing it to finish out my team event because I wanted to get left of a team-mate who was using more surface in the middle of the lane. I was able to get steeper through the front and avoid the early friction while still getting the ball to come back and get through the pins. That is where the reality check really excels for me. This new coverstock allows the ball to go further through the front part of lane. To test the Reality Check out I rolled both the Reality and the Reality Check on a fresh PBA Shark pattern. For me, the Reality Check provides me a more smoother shape then the original. I was very impressed how much control the ball provided down lane on this pattern. The OOB finish worked well and I have not needed to change the surface. Initially I thought I may need to surface with a 1K or 2K pad for Shark, but it was not needed. The 900 Reality Check has pleasantly surprised me. At times when a "big ball" may quit fairly quickly, the Reality check did not disappoint as I was able to continue to move inside and carry pins consistently. Also, it should be noted during trade show season the Reality Check excelled during the demo portion of the event I worked at. Many different bowling styles enjoyed what the Reality Check offered....decent length, nice pin carry along with control. You should expect a continuous, strong reaction throughout the lane. The Reality Check features an all new S84 hybrid cover for this edition in the Reality trilogy. It's everything you would expect in a hybrid Reality, yet it has a shape that is unique to itself and the Reality line. It's much cleaner than the original, and much smoother than the Altered, but is far smoother than anything I expect from an asymmetric ball at the top of the line. I drilled mine 45 x 4 x 65 and it gives me an incredibly clean and smooth motion front to back that is in play on pretty much everything but the extremes of either wet or dry. Versatile is an understatement. Give it a shot and you'll be surprised at how much you find yourself using it!

The new Reality Check features features the successful Distrubance core wrapped in a new S84 Hybrid coverstock. This combination makes the Reality Check a very versatile ball on medium and heavy volume patterns. This new addition to the 900 Global line provides the same predictable ball motion as the original Reality but with a more continuous backend motion. Compared to the original Reality, the Check has a later breakpoint of about two to three feet. This makes the Check much more usable on a wider variety of patterns. While it may not be the first ball out of the bag on longer, heavy patterns, it will see more than enough play on the medium patterns. It allows me to keep my angles straighter early in the block and just keep chasing the pattern left as transition occurs. If you are looking for a ball that you will definitely get a lot of use out of, look no further than the Reality Check.

The Reality Check features the new S84 Beta Hybrid coverstock. This cover is supposed to be similar in strength to S84 Solid found on the Reality, but with more energy retention and continuation. My experience is just that: I can go more left to right with this ball and get it to continue, where the Reality demands straighter angles to be in play. The Reality Check is more useable on house shots for me, where the Reality shined on flatter/slicker conditions. The 900 Global Reality check is one of the latest additions to the 900 Series at 900 Global.  After drilling and having a ton of success with the Reality and Altered Reality, I was excited to see the Reality Check being added to the line.  The Reality Check uses the same engine as the previous Reality balls (Disturbance Asymmetrical Core), but the scientists at Storm tweaked the cover to create a quicker response time and more backend shape down-lane.  I've drilled one Reality Check so far and love it.  I've mapped it out as 5.5 x 5 x 70. This puts the pin in-between my bridge and middle finger and puts the mass bias just to the right of my thumb.  Initially, I left the surface alone to see how it rolls, but have since used a 3000 pad to create a smoother shape and slow down the response time a little.  I've had the most success using the Reality Check after my Reality starts to run out of gas, but also when asymmetrical balls are still going through the pins well and I need a ball to store energy.   Also, when comparing it to other balls, I think it's earlier and more round than a UFO Alert and RST X2, but not as early as a Gem.  I hope that helps give you a picture of where I see it fitting. If you need an asymmetrical ball that will store energy and compliments the rest of the line, go drill a Reality Check!

The reality check in my opinion is living up to the hype with its clean ball motion and pop off the spot. This Ball fits perfect between my original reality and altered reality. Now that all 3 of the Reality balls are in my bag...I'm a happy bowler! The Reality Check is going to turn some heads! Very nice through the heads and very controllable on the back ends! Very nice add on to the Reality series being a Hybrid. After I got to put all 3 Reality balls on the ball return, I had a chance to toss them one by one and compare them. Now this is just a freshly oiled house shot. The Reality Check holds its own, it tends to hold its energy more at the end, and really loves hitting the pocket! Mine was right out of the box, and I love the way it rolls. I'm a right hander and when I was starting to leave some nice 10 pins...I actually moved left. I have to learn to move a little quicker lol! If you get one...your going to love it. I was pretty impressed.

Layout: 45 x 4 5/8 x 35 The Reality Check is one of the cleaner, most responsive high end balls that I have used in some time. Balls such as the first Reality or the Proton Physix roll quite a bit earlier, and even something like the previous entry in the line, the Altered Reality, I found to pick up sooner as well. The Reality Check ignores the heads and the front of the mids, but really digs in to the lane in the back half of the lane. It is a perfect step down from the dull high end choices, and a perfect stronger compliment to balls such as the Wolverine Dark Moss, Idol Cosmos, or the Night Road. It is right at home on medium/heavy to medium lane conditions.

Everybody knows how good the Reality is, and I think the Reality Check is actually a very good compliment to the original Reality! I had lots of success with the pin-up Reality; so, I drilled my Reality Check with a longer pin-to-pap, pin up layout as well: 65 x 5 ½ x 30. I expected this ball to flare a lot and with this coverstock, I was hoping to get a responsive asymmetrical bowling ball for when I need to increase my launch angles. Honestly, I think I have achieved just that with this Reality Check. The Reality Check is probably one of the most responsive asymmetrical bowling balls I have thrown recently. The ball is quite clean through the front part of the lane and has a “quick” change of direction down lane, which is normally a bit unusual for a strong asymmetrical bowling ball. Medium to longer patterns that have a defined “hookspot” is where I see this Reality Check to be most useful. For me, The reality Check is an another success of the reality family ! Even if I didn't play a lot with the original Reality because of is big solid surface, I had really loved it and it's follow me when I go on te tournament road. However, last year I played a lot with the pearl version, the Altered Reality and I had a lot of succes with ! It was a really smooth and predictable ball. For this one, the Reality Check come with a hybrid surface and for me the reaction is really different of the 2 previous one. I drilled mine 50 x 5 x 40. For a assymetric ball, it passed the first part of the lane very well and keep a really biggest reaction on the entry of the pins. It will be for sure a good house shot and transition ball. The 900 Global Reality Check has a low RG value of 2.49 a high differential of 0.052 and a low intermediate differential of 0.018. To bring this all together the low rg allows the Check to rev up earlier but very clean through the mid lane with the high differential. The S84 Beta Hybrid Response cover is 2 parts solid and 1 part pearl which was designed to be a cleaner option than the original Reality. Total hook is pretty close between the two but you will see different shapes. I will get into a discussion later about how to see a better variance between the two. I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Reality and the 900 Global Altered Reality On a 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil with all 3 balls at their box surface. In comparison to the 900 Global Reality, the Solid Reality is more rounded where the Check is more angular in the backend. I moved 5 and 3 to zone over and you will see where the Reality is a pinch stronger the Reality Check. The next comparison is to the 900 Global Altered Reality. They both have the same RG and differential the only difference is the Altered Reality has a Pearl cover. With the pearl cover you will see how the Altered Reality goes longer through the mids and is angular in the backend. Here is the take home on why you need all 3 in your bag and how to do it. Keep the Reality at box surface 2000 grit or if you want to use it on league conditions put polish on top of the box surface. Take the Reality Check to 1000 grit and add Step 2 Compound and a very small amount of Reacta Shine with light pressure. If you do not have access to Step 2 Compound, you can try Reacta Skuff and Reacta Shine but its slightly different. For the Altered Reality keep at box surface of 1500 polish. As per layouts try to space out the PAP’s to get each ball to go longer from each other due to strength and similarities of each ball. For the Reality I did a 4” PAP, Reality Check 4 ½ and Altered Reality a 5”

The Reality Check is the ball I have been waiting for. It is all that I wanted out of the Altered Reality, but it was a bit over/under for my likes. It was very pattern specific. I have had a lot of success with this ball in both league and tournaments. It looks good from straight and it look good when I get left and get around the ball more. The biggest thing about this ball that I like is that it always seems to get through the pins the right way which increases my carry percentage. This ball travels with me everywhere. I can’t wait to try it on some different sport shots to put it to the real test. This Motion is strong and predictable. It doesn’t lock up on me like other big asyms do.

I was pretty curious about this one after it was announced. When the Altered Reality (Which I LOVED) was deemed not cool enough to be used in the USBC events, I couldn’t wait to see what we would do with this core. Out of the box, I have to say that I was a bit let down. After trying to use it a couple of sets I put it away. Recently I got it back out, hit it with a quick wet 1,000 pad and WHOA! This ball was SO MUCH BETTER! I started with a ball that was too clean and didn’t recover how I wanted it to a ball that read early enough to blend the wet/dry and never over reacted when it hit the dry and still stayed continuous! Do NOT give up on this ball if you find yourself in a similar situation. The Core is proven, the cover may just need a little tweak! I'm back with another ball review, and this time it's for the Reality Check and at 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the S84 Beta Hybrid Coverstock and comes 4K Fast with an RG of 2.49, a Diff of 0.052, and a PSA of .018. Layout for this ball is 4 3/4 x 3.5 x 1 This was a fun ball to throw for me even though I never threw the OG one. I did match it up with the Altered and found the Check to be much cleaner down lane. My video I shot for this ball was thrown on a beat up shot so I can say that there needs to be more oil for this ball to retain its energy. I can see the Altered and the Check in the same bag as a step down from each other. I drilled my REALITY CHECK up at 50 x 4.5 x 35. This put the pin over my ring finger slightly and the MB right of my thumb about an 1". Out of box it wiggled too much down lane so I hit it with a 2000 pad to smooth that out. This has been a ball to go when my INFINITE PHYSIX is starting to go side ways too much at the spot. It also bridges the gap for me before the big pearls come out like the RST-X2 or DARK CODE. Get this one to fill a gap when you are in between stronger balls and big pearls are too over/under to go to comfortably. Also don't be afraid to change surfaces if the 4K-Fast is not to your liking.

I drilled up the Zen Soul and the Reality Check about 5 weeks ago. I have now been able to throw them both in multiple sets. I have been (lucky enough) to be over 700 multiple times with both balls already this season. I want to start by saying both balls have truly impressed me. Let's start with the Zen Soul. This by far is the best Zen I have thrown out of all 3 for me. I usually like to see a touch more angle on the back part of the lane then what the first 2 showed me is part of the reason for that. Although the Soul does not have a sharp back end motion the ball retains a ton of energy all the way through the pin deck and has drive you can count on shot after shot even when playing deeper on the lane at a variety of angles through the fronts. Total hook surprisingly was only about 1-2 boards less then the GEM and the Soul seems to give me much more predictability. This is a ball I would put in almost anyone's hands and know they will like it. Now for the Reality Check, this ball fits my eyes so well and what I love to see on the lane. Cleaner through the front and big response to the back of the pattern. You can really open your angles late in a set and never worry this ball wont get back and still get the corner pins out. For me on the house shot I bowl on most, The Reality Check is only truly 1 board less hook over all with my feet and can get through the arrows in the same areas as the Zen Soul. The breakpoint seems to be 2-3 feet longer, with like I said before a significantly more pronounced change of direction on the dry boards. So if you like to throw it to a spot and know it will hook off of it, this ball is perfect for you. I would throw this on anything that is medium oil or more and know that I can still get it down lane.

I liked playing the track in this building but was able to open up my angles once the lanes transitioned. More length and harder continuous roll off the pattern. 900 Global Reality Check Coverstock: S84 Beta Hybrid Reactive Core: Disturbance Asymmetric Layout: 5 x 5 x 3 I drilled my Reality Check with a pin above middle finger 5 x 5 x 3 layout which is also on my Reality and Altered Reality. These three balls really stair step well with the Reality being the superstar big ball and the Altered and Check being good transitional options when the Reality starts to burn up a bit and give that flat 10/4 pin look. I find the Altered to be better when you need a shiny poppy big ball that has length where the Check gives me Phaze 2 vibes with its strong, round motion. The Check also takes surface adjustments very well as I have had it anywhere from 4K Fast to 1000 and it doesn’t miss a beat depending on your need. If you are in need of an asymmetric ball and the stronger Reality and Gem type balls don’t fit your game or bowling center, give the Reality Check a look. The Reality Check features the S84 Beta Hybrid coverstock and the Disturbance core used in the Reality. I am a huge fan of the Reality Check. The Reality is one of the great asymmetrical balls I have ever thrown and I feel like 900 Global captured the shape very will with the release of the Check. For those of you hoping that the Reality Check would just be a rerelease of the Altered Reality, THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME BALL… If that is a shape you are looking for then I encourage you to read some reviews on the Roto Grip RST X-3… Now back to the Check! The S84 Beta Hybrid cover for me is the perfect blend of length and strength. It allows the slow predictable characteristic of the core that I love so much out of the Reality to be front and center but just at a different hook zone down lane. I will use this ball a ton on medium oil patterns or late in blocks at PBA tournaments. When I had to part ways with my Roto Grip UFO Alert, that left a huge hole in my bag, but now the Reality Check fills that gap very very well.

900 Global Reality Check Ball Review Bowler Stats: Speed: 15.5 MPH Rev Rate: 300 RPM Tilt: 3-5 degrees Axis Rotation: 60 degrees PAP: 5 ⅜ over 1 ¼ up The Reality Check is the third ball in the Reality line and features a S84 Beta hybrid coverstock along with the 4K Fast finish as the surface. The Reality and Altered Reality are pieces that begin the motion to the pocket a little earlier than I like. When comparing them to the Physix line they have an earlier shape and are more forward like the Idol line for my speed and rev rate category. Because of the shape of the Reality line I use them on the fresh house shots or in the first few games of tournaments so I can control the pocket with an earlier motion. The Reality with its solid cover will be a smoother shape off the dry compared to the quicker response hybrid cover of the Reality Check. On pattern lengths for tournament play I will use the Reality Check on lengths of 39 to 41 feet depending on the lane surface and volume of the pattern. So far I have had more success with the Reality Check on the 42’ higher volume house shot and have not used it much on patterns since I have not bowled on many shorter higher volume ones since the release of the Reality Check. The new 900 Global ball release is the Reality Check. My favorite 900 Global ball of all time for me is the Reality. So when they released the Reality Check with a Hybird cover I couldn't wait till drill it. The Hybird cover is 2 part solid and 1 part pearl. I drilled the first one pin down with a 5 inch pin. Very smooth and predictable reaction for me. Its a couple feet longer than the original Reality as far as length. Also way slower response than the Altered Reality. So to me its a perfect fit in the line. I've been able to use on house and sport patterns with very good success. Its below the Reality and a RG Gem but stronger than a Phaze 2 or a Wolverine Dark Moss. I have drilled several Reality Checks in my shop for multiple different styles. I was super stoked to throw this ball because I love the reality and altered reality. I drilled my reality check 50x4x25. I definitely like some surface on this ball. It is almost similar to what my phase 2 does for me. This ball gets Down lane and is clean but strong off the spot. This ball works really well game 2 for me.

Reality Check S84 Beta Hybrid Coverstock Asymmetric Disturbance Core (2.49 RG, .052 differential, and a .018 intermediate differential). A hybrid Reality to land between the solid and the pearl. More versatile than the Reality, a little more smooth and stronger overall compared to the Altered. I have done well with recent Storm Brand Hybrids (love my Phaze 3, Nova, and X1). The Check can play as my strongest hybrid. Heavy house shots, this ball will look great. Could by a minor step down from the Reality or Proton Physix or a step up from most heavy oil pearls.

I went back to an old layout that worked for me in the past 70x4.5x30. This puts the PSA directly in thumb. The reason why I chose this layout is the fact of how big the DISTURBANCE core is and the PSA before drilling was pretty high at .018. So I knew I was going to lower the RG value as soon as the bit hit the ball, with that being in my mind I didn’t want this ball to see friction too hard and just tumble forward or be unpredictable as I moved left with steeper angles so I increased my DRILL angle to 70* now 5” pins roll so forward for me, so I chose to keep this at 4.5 that still provides me with flare and enough of the cover touching the lane for consistency of motion, now 30* VAL angle for me provides strong motion downlane soemtimes too strong or too clean, with that being said I hit the S84 Hybrid cover with 3000 too slow it down and fine tune the motion that is appealing to my eye. To me hitting the surface of this ball opened this ball up to so many variations of lane play. Its a staple in my bag because of the strength and predictability it provides me through all phases of ball motion! **PAP is 4.125> .875^ 11* TILT

This 900 Global Reality Check likes oil, but not heavy volume oil. It likes medium length 40'-43' patterns. It needs some friction, but not too much. The 5:1 - 8:1 ratio patterns fit nicely. 23ml - 28ml volume. I had to take the shine off, using it at 3000. Layout 50 x 4 x 40. For reference, it plays like my Radical Innovator Pearl; my best league ball is an Ebonite Game Breaker Asym.
