Hammer Black Widow Black Gold Review
While no longer in production, the Hammer Black Widow Black Gold remains a formidable option on the used market for bowlers who need serious hook potential on heavier oil patterns. The combination of the Gas Mask asymmetric core and Aggression Hybrid coverstock delivers the goods when lanes get tough.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
The Hammer Black Widow Black Gold showcases what made the Black Widow line legendary among serious bowlers. Built around the proven Gas Mask asymmetric core with its impressive .058 differential and .016 mass bias, this ball creates substantial track flare of 5-6 inches, translating to excellent pin carry and striking power. The 2.50 RG provides a balanced motion that’s not overly early but still reads the midlane effectively on medium to heavy oil conditions.
The Aggression Hybrid Reactive coverstock is the star of the show, combining the length characteristics of a pearl with the traction of a solid. Finished at 1000 grit with polish, it pushes cleanly through the front part of the lane before the asymmetric core kicks in to create a strong, controllable backend reaction. This makes it particularly effective for tournament play where oil volumes are high and bowlers need both length and backend pop. While discontinued, savvy bowlers can often find this ball at attractive prices on the secondary market, making it an excellent value for those who can locate one in good condition.

This ball is great! It's all about that length and strengh. Check out my demo video below: https://youtu.be/VNU_2UL2wzQ
GREAT BALL!!!! I've loved the Black Widow line since the Red Legend Solid and Pearl. With the Proven Gas Mask Core with the Aggression Cover, this is the Best Black Widow to date. This ball is clean through the fronts, doesn't read the mids too fast and very smooth strong continuous motion on the backend. This ball has been good for me on your typical house condition, very good on Sport or Challenging Patterns. Even if you are a stroker up the boards or you like to open your angles, this would be a GREAT BALL for you. My Layout is pin up.... 50 x 4.25 x 40
Versatility is the biggest factor in this ball. I have been able to start with this ball on fresh patterns and continue to use it as the pattern breaks down. It is clean through the fronts, but has a strong back end motion to even as you continue to move left. It is stronger than the Black Widow Gold, but they are complimentary to each other. This ball is also complimentary to the Diesel Torque. It was a great decision to release the 2 at the same time. I found many situations where if would change from the Diesel Torque to the Black Widow Black/Gold when the Diesel Torque was beginning to burn up. This is a great ball for anybody at any level. You can't go wrong!
Want one when they were first released... and now I have one and love it !
