Hammer Black Widow Tour V1 Review
The first Tour Widow delivers controlled power that 1,336 bowlers chose over more aggressive options at $169.95. Video reviews inside.
Now to have this ready for league season. Ball that can dominate league patterns. Oh, so pure Black Widow Tour V1. What an insane concept. Never been done. What's up, guys? Brunick's back. It's time to introduce the Hammer Black Widow Tour V1. Now, the Black Widow Tour V1 has HK22 aggression
hybrid cover wrapped around a modified gas mass lower core. I can't wait to see what this one does on the lanes for me with Spectto running, of course. But before we get to all that, please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already. Now, let's see what this Tour V1 does out on the lanes. Okay, I hope you're excited because I know I am. Everybody's excited for this one. First of its kind, Black Widow Tour V1. What's changed? We're gonna talk
about it all. Starting with that core. It's got that Black Widow core, but it's been modified now. It's a low differential version. That top puck that was in the original, no longer there. RG has been unchanged. 250 differential has gone down quite a bit. 24 points all the way down to 034 with the intermediate staying the same at 016. Cover stock has that HK22 aggression hybrid. Same is found on the Black Widow 2.0 hybrid. So, what are you thinking
here? We're thinking, "Oh, a tour ball. It's going to be tame. It's going to be smooth." It's not that kind of tour ball. This is going to be every bit as flippy, but made for more drier conditions for house shots, stuff you like to bowl on. For people that say, "Hey, my Black Widow just hooks way too much. I can't control it." We got a tour version one. A little bit tamed down core that same shape. I got specto running. We're going to start it out. We're going to move it in. I can bowling on crown jewel. House shot. A lot of dry to the outside. Oil puddled up in the
middle. So, we're going to give this a test drive and see right now. Let's do this right now. Start on 15. I got high hopes. This ball just looks mean. Poor V1. All right. Oh man, playing those straighter angles with a ball that I'm not sure what it's
going to do. I've never bowl with a ball like this before. So, what changed here? Why the need? Flare-wise, not as much. Normally a the flare on a Black Widow Mania would be way out past here. Tighter flare rings, little bit more tame. So what is this going to be good for? The guys that like to play straighter angles perhaps the ones that have a lot
of rev rate, rev dominant, they're going to find the most use with the Tour V1. This is going to be, I think, a cheat code for house shots, for tournament play. Something that is just going to be a workhorse for the average bowler. It's going to work all across the board. Little harder. Look at that. Look at that thing just respond to friction out there. I didn't think for one second that this
ball was going to be tame and it's not going to. Right now it's looking like it's not going to let me play straight. I'm going to try one more shot, but I'm going to play it straighter. I'm going to keep it in the oil more and see what happens. So far and getting it to the dry and the ball's responding quick to the dry out there. So that's in more a lot strong. Don't let the name fool you.
It's still a Black Widow at heart. Tour V1, though it has almost half the differential. Went down from 58 all the way down to 34. Big difference there. And it's not shiny out of the box. It's got some surface. 500, 1,000, 3000. So, it doesn't have compound. It's not shiny. It's meant to dig in just a little bit more. Let's move in five. Give it a little bit of swing. This ball was just asking for a little
bit of oil in the front. Playing that outside angle. You hit it earlier. Now, I think this might be my favorite zone for this ball. It'll be interesting to see as I go along because Black Widows have historically been known for their sweeping continuous motion. Sometimes skid flip, sometimes rolly, but that
continuous sweeping motion through the pins. Are we going to see that now that we've modified the core? Taking that top block out of there, but try to keep everything the same. So RG is the same, intermediate's the same, differential way down. Let's try another shot. Now you guys notice I I threw that last shot to the dry and it hung out there. Set up perfect for the pocket. Let's keep it in more. That's not in more. That's helped.
Ah. Ah. Apparently it's opposite day here at Brunswick HQ. Shields reporting for duty. I love all the ideas I get from comments. People like the name call. I'll just turn it into a shirt cuz I don't care. Get them on inside bowling by the way. A lot of new designs for the new league season. Let's keep this in more. Let's really try
there. Get it. Yes. Good carry. All right. So, when the speed is amped up and you get it through the oil like that, it has a little bit tougher time slowing down. It definitely needs some friction. Definitely needs something to throw at. Luckily, I know exactly where to find some friction. And that is pretty much outside of eight board. So, let's move it left into 25. Now, that last one was okay. I
don't think it was my favorite like I thought it would be. So, in a 25 now. Let's see if this will be my favorite. Oh, get that eight pin out of there. No eight pins. Not for me. Turning a new leaf this league season. I don't want to leave any of them. I don't want to be eight pin king anymore. I want to denounce my throne just like in coming to America. I denounce my throne.
All right, got that one out to the dry set up. Let's try to keep it in a little bit more. Let's try to keep it in the oil. I really want to see if this can handle it as I move in and open angles. Maybe it sure can. So, obviously the cover strength is there. The core strength is a little bit more muted than what you would expect out of a Black Widow gas mask core. It's not
the same. So in past when Envy came out, Envy Tour came out very smooth. Same thing. Obsession Obsession Tour smoother effect very flippy effect tour smoother. So, we're seeing that a little bit with the Tour V1, but I think it's still inherently more reactive, more flippy down lane than a typical tour ball. Let's try one more shot there.
This is shaping up to be my favorite zone. Two for two. Let's try another shot. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Yeah. Yeah, I think we're coming back to that zone. 25 looked very good for that one. I'm excited. Now we're getting into the test of open angles, whether this ball can handle it. In the past, Black Widows have never had a challenge moving it further in left and getting it around
the corner. Are we going to see that same kind of motion as we move in? So, we're in 30 now. We're 15 left from our original spot. I think it's going to be fine. Okay, wrapper. So, always when we wrap a 10pin after moving a whole zone, we make an adjustment. So, I feel like I got that to the right spot. Now, there's a couple things I could do. I could get it out
there a little bit earlier. I could soften the speed a little bit, get around it more. Definitely a lot more oil. And the flare rings are tighter, much tighter than a than a Black Widow. And I think when we do a comparison of Mania versus Tour V1, we'll start to see that difference.
Oh, so pure. Black Widow Tour V1. What an insane concept. Never been done as far as I've known. Never been done. I tried looking for any kind of iteration overseas. Couldn't find anything. Maybe there's something out there that I just don't know about. A ball that just responds to what you need it to do. So, minor changes with how I release, speed, rotation, all that stuff. And you see the difference down
lane. That gas mass core has been tried and true almost 20 years now. Probably 20 years now. And now you take away a vital part of it. Lower the diff and you get all of that same motion. That's in more. It's in more. Okay. Nice. Just not as much of it. That's the thing. Like the Widows Mania 2.0 Hybrid 3.0 you know, all those balls so much on
the back end and it never stops. This one has a more pronounced mid lane where it's not as strong, as torquy, it's not as sweepy. It kind of more or less gets to that spot, makes its move, and keeps it tight, keeps it compact, and it saves a lot of energy. All right, let's move to uh 35. We're 20 left of the original spot. Now, here's the test. It's got a Widow logo on it. Can it do it?
Oh, yeah. No doubt. You can get these next week. We shorten that launch window from when we announce to when you can get it. You can have yours in your pro shop next week. I got to say, this ball has gotten better as I moved in. A lot of those widows, they do that for me, and I wasn't sure. Got a pin in the gutter there. If this is PBA, this would be like a zero for the frame, but I'm gonna I'm gonna keep it out there. I'm going to see what happens.
Yep. Oh, that thing jumped on me. Probably got a little softer with that one. Little too cocky. Ball has plenty of back end. Like I said, it's not your typical tour ball. If we wanted it to be a typical tour tour ball, we probably would have not put HK on it. Put a put a solid cover on it, something that's mellow, but that's not what we wanted. We want that same Black Widow kind of look. Now, it might come in the future. I don't know.
Like I said, we're not out there to to pump out widows all that often. It's a kind of a rarity now to have this ready for league season. Ball that can dominate league patterns out wider. Get that four pin out of my face. Tour v1. Where do I pick to go from here? Finished up all the zones. Got pretty confident as I moved in that last zone. 30 was pretty good, I got to say,
once I made that small adjustment. 25. Don't really recall, but I think I'm just going to stay in the same spot. This last zone, I'm just going to stay here. Have a little fun with this ball. Let's see what happens if I throw it all the way to the right. I'm going to try to swing this as far as I can and delay the hook and see what kind of motion we get. Just had enough. I definitely launched
that one out there. So, I hope we learned quite a bit about this new Widow Tour V1. I sure did. I put it through the paces. I saw what it can do firsthand, and I hope you all learned a little something. So, that's all. Check out the new merch on Inside Bowling. Check out the crew memberships. And if nothing else, please subscribe to the channel. Talk to you guys. See you in the next video. I'll be throwing this one in league first week. 911 is our first night. Talk to you guys then.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Hammer Black Widow Tour V1 delivers strong, continuous motion while maintaining better control than its heavier counterpartsβa compelling balance for house shot and league competition. On a typical house pattern with defined dry boards outside and oil concentration in the middle, the ball responded aggressively to friction without the oversweeping backend characteristic of the standard Black Widow line. Independent reviewers observed that the modified core (differential reduced from .058 to .034) creates a more pronounced midlane phase rather than an immediate, aggressive hook, allowing bowlers to play straighter angles and tighter launch windows. The HK22 aggression hybrid coverstock, pre-textured to 500/1000/3000 grit out of the box, proved effective at initiating motion earlier and maintaining predictable shape through the oil. Testing showed the ball performed best when kept in the oil longer, with positioning around the 25-30 board range producing confident pocket hits with solid carry.
What distinguished this ball during evaluation was its responsiveness to minor adjustments in speed, rotation, and release. As testing progressed across different zonesβfrom straighter angles at 15 board through wider openings at 35 boardβthe Tour V1 demonstrated versatility without requiring dramatic layout or surface changes. The tighter flare pattern (compared to other Black Widow iterations) meant less unpredictable continuation, translating to a more workable ball for bowlers managing variable oil patterns within a single session. Independent reviewers noted this is decidedly not a typical βtameβ tour ball; the reactive hybrid cover ensures it maintains Black Widow aggression and backend motion, just in a more controlled, energy-efficient package. Speed had a noticeable impactβfaster deliveries required the ball to reach dry boards to initiate its motion, while moderate speeds allowed earlier, more predictable angulation.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Black Widow Tour V1 is ideal for high-rev bowlers and those with moderate to fast ball speeds who have struggled controlling standard Black Widow aggression on house shots and league patterns. Bowlers who love the Black Widow shape and motion but found previous versions too aggressive on drier conditions will find this a direct solutionβit delivers the same visual and physical identity without overwhelming backend energy. This ball excels for players who appreciate flexibility across different board positions and want to avoid surface adjustments or multiple ball changes during a night of league bowling.
Additionally, tournament bowlers preparing for house shot competition and league players of intermediate to advanced skill will benefit from the Tour V1βs workability and predictability. Testing showed itβs an excellent choice for anyone preferring to play straighter angles with margin for error, or for rev-dominant bowlers seeking a ball that wonβt overhook early. At $169.95, it represents strong value as a reliable workhorse that bridges the gap between aggressive heavy oil equipment and overly conservative tour releases.

The ball came quickly but the box was busted. The one it shipped in and the actual bowling ball box. It would have been a 5 star if that was not a problem.

My husband is completely happy with his gift! He has been using it since the day he got it!

Here is my take on the new Hammer Widow Tour V1. The Widow Tour has a modified asymmetric Gas Mask core (Widow Gas Mask Low Diff Core... basically the Gas Mask core without the flip block on top) wrapped by the same coverstock used on the Widow 2.0 Hybrid, HK-22 Aggression Hybrid. The color is black/blue/purple and box finish is 3000 Siaair. The Widow Tour used in the video has a 45 x 4 3/4 x 25 layout and is thrown at box surface. Since being originally released in 2006, Hammer has yet to make a Widow I didn't like. Couple that with the fact that I generally love "tour edition" equipment and thus, when this ball was first announced, I was very eager to give it a try. To my eye, the Widow Tour V1 shows a clean yet very controlled motion down the lane. Let me try and give a little different way to explain it. In the last 3 years, Hammer has released 3 of my favorite "tour edition" balls, the Envy Tour, Effect Tour and now this Hammer Widow Tour V1. To interrelate the 3 of them from what I've seen, the Envy Tour was the earliest and smoothest, the Effect Tour felt like it has a little more shape to it than the Envy Tour and the Hammer Widow Tour V1 is the cleanest of the 3 but still with that smoother type of shape off the spot. That's probably the best way to interrelate the 3 most recent Hammer Tour Edition pieces. I see this ball being at its best on medium volume fresh patterns of a variety of distances where control of the lane is key. I believe also this ball will be in play for a variety of rev rates, speeds, styles etc. I know I will be drilling more of these in the not too distant future! The Widow Tour V1 releases officially on the 18th. See your pro shop for more information.
