Performance Analysis
The Raptor Rush continues Motiv’s tradition of building symmetric pearls that generate asymmetric-level backend motion. The Affliction V2 core at 2.48 RG and .055 differential is one of the strongest symmetric designs in Motiv’s lineup, and wrapping it in the Propulsion FYJ Pearl coverstock at 5000 grit creates a ball that is all about length and backend. The ball clears the front part of the lane with minimal friction, reads the transition zone just enough to begin its arc, and then snaps hard through the pins with an angular, aggressive move that generates impressive carry.
What sets the Raptor Rush apart from other pearl symmetrics is the sheer volume of backend motion it produces. The .055 differential is near the top of what symmetric cores typically offer, and the Propulsion FYJ pearl coverstock is engineered to delay the hook phase as long as possible. The result is a ball that appears to be heading straight before making a sudden, decisive turn at the breakpoint. This kind of motion is invaluable on medium-heavy conditions where bowlers need to play straighter lines and rely on the ball to do the work at the backend. Andrew Anderson has demonstrated this repeatedly in Motiv’s promotional content — the ball creates its own angle without requiring the bowler to generate excessive axis rotation.
The tradeoff for this length-to-backend shape is reduced versatility compared to more evenly distributed ball motions. The Raptor Rush does one thing exceptionally well, and bowlers who understand when to deploy it will be rewarded. On conditions where the fronts are drier and the backends are holding, this ball can overreact. But when the oil is pushing through the midlane and killing backend motion on other equipment, the Raptor Rush comes alive. It is a specialist, and a very effective one.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Raptor Rush is built for the bowler who wants maximum length and a strong angular move at the breakpoint. Tournament bowlers who face medium-heavy conditions will find this ball invaluable as a piece that creates angle from straighter lines. High-speed players who struggle to get symmetric equipment to finish on the backend will appreciate the combination of .055 differential and pearl coverstock — it compensates for speed-induced energy loss at the pins.
League bowlers who typically play on medium-heavy house shots will find the Raptor Rush to be a reliable strike ball through the first several games before transitioning to something smoother as the lanes break down. It slots perfectly between a benchmark ball and a full asymmetric heavy oil piece, filling a critical gap in any Motiv arsenal.
The Pros
- • Affliction V2 core with .055 differential delivers serious backend power for a symmetric ball
- • Pearl coverstock at 5000 grit pushes through the fronts and stores energy for a strong downlane move
- • Andrew Anderson's go-to ball for a reason — the combination of length and backend reaction is tournament-ready
- • Symmetric core makes layout options simple while still generating 4-5 inches of flare
The Cons
- • Angular backend motion can be too sharp on lighter oil patterns
- • Pearl coverstock may struggle to read the midlane on heavier volume conditions without surface adjustment

Bowlers Say
Bowlers praise the Raptor Rush's angular backend motion and strong downlane speed on heavy oil patterns. The Propulsion FYJ pearl coverstock and Affliction V2 core create excellent pin carry when lanes open up, though some note the strong backend requires proper adjustment to avoid splits.

Bowlers frequently mention:
The culmination of 15 years of relentless research really shines through with this beautiful golden bowling ball. This new Propulsion FYJ cover really maximizes the potential of the Affliction V2 core. It really feels like it can play on any condition in the hands of all types of bowlers. This one is going to be special. Dare I say the ball of the year.
Raptor Rush Ball Review The Raptor Rush is the newest ball added to the Raptor line. It has the Propulsion FYJ Pearl Reactive cover that gives you strength and speed. It’s designed for heavy oil patterns and made for when the lanes open up but still a good amount of volume. The Raptor Rush has the Affliction V2 Symmetric core. The Raptor Rush creates a very strong angular motion and is great for opening patterns especially when the pattern calls for a stronger piece but the fronts are getting chewed up. This ball should fit the spot of the strongest pearl in most bags of most arsenals. Designed for heavy oil conditions, the Raptor Rush is going to be a piece to add for anyone looking for something when the Jackals stand up to quick and need something better to use left to right. This piece is going to be very exciting and a lot of fun to throw.
Was really happy with purchase of this ball. Came in a very timely manner!!

Building off the success of our pearls over the last couple years as well as a coming to fruition of all of the R&D that Motiv has done in the last 15 years since our first pearl coverstock release, the Raptor Rush is the perfect culmination of control and downlane speed that bowlers of all styles look for out of a heavy oil symmetric pearl. This will be a higher hook potential pearl than the Nuclear Forge while providing more control than balls like the Supra GT and Hyper Venom. You can see the core take over in the midlane and allow this monster to build momentum and absolutely launch itself off of friction downlane. If your bag is needing a heavy oil symmetric pearl, look no further! MOTIV Bowling Staff member-Anthony E
