Roto Grip Hyped Solid Review
While no longer in production, the Roto Grip Hyped Solid remains a solid option on the used market for bowlers seeking predictable, controlled motion on medium oil conditions. Its symmetric core design and moderate specifications make it ideal for strokers and speed-dominant players.
what's going on guys welcome back to the channel on today's video we're going to be reviewing roto grip's all new hype solid so make sure to hit that like button subscribe hit that notification bell and if you like this jersey or any of the jerseys in any of my videos coolwick.com and use my promo code napolis10 that'll get you 10 off your entire order and then down below in the description there's gonna be a link where you can order this hype solid or anything bowling related that is the absolute best way to help support the channel all right so let's get into some of the tech behind this hype solid because the more and more i see videos
of people throwing this ball and the more and more i think about it the higher that bar is getting for this ball and i'll tell you guys for that why that is in a second so the hype solid features the height core which is the same core that was in the hyped pearl and the hyped hybrid and then 15 pounds that has an rg of 2.52 and a max differential of 0.036 again that is in 15 pounds and then wrapped around that hustle core is the vtc solid reactive cover stock that comes out of the box at a 3000 grit finish and the layout on this hype solid
just like all my symmetrical balls is 30 by 4 by 30. so the reason i'm very excited to throw this ball is because from the videos i've seen and the core numbers i feel like it's going to be a little bit stronger maybe a little bit shapier version of that iq tour solid the rg's are from 249 to 252 so fairly close the differential is a little bit higher in the hype solid this one being 0.036 where the iq tour solid is like .029 i want to say and that vtc solid i
imagine is going to be at least comparable to that r2s solid cover stock so i'm looking for a motion that's going to be very iq tour solid-ish just maybe a little bit stronger and maybe produce produce a little bit more shape down lane let me know down below in the comments if you guys are hyped for this hype solid oh that was a terrible pun oh my god let me know in the comments if you guys are excited for this hype solid why or why not let me know what you're expecting this ball to do we're gonna be here on lane one at samsung on a fresh typical
house shop let's get on the lanes all right first shot here reviewing the hyped solid stuck a little bit all right let's post this shot here i think that was a pretty good start good shot there good shot yeah i mean i am seeing shades of iq tour solid i definitely want to compare
the two let me know in the comments what balls you want to see compared to this hype solid bang bang yeah for comparisons i'm for sure thinking iq tour solid i'm thinking hustle usa even burner solid yes i mean it already looks fantastic on
the fresh now my big question is is it going to look good when i move left oh no nine pin yeah i'm impressed at least so far i missed in no chance yeah luke told me i was gonna like this ball and he was absolutely right
yes i didn't really care for the pearl or the hybrid of the heights but i think the solid matches my game just so much more get around there i think this might even be a little earlier and rounder than the iq tour from what i'm seeing
yeah so in the next group of shots i'll start chasing this left but from this a little bit straighter it looks fantastic so i mean this is still a weak ball because i kind of juiced that one a little bit and it had no chance got to make sure that i'm soft with it here kind of like that yeah
all right last shot here and then we'll talk about my first impressions of this hype solid come around that it's a good one all right so 12 shots in with this hype solid i'm liking what i'm seeing and i think the most important shot there was that that 10 pin that i kind of juiced a little bit it's still a weak ball don't think that because i'm a little bit in and i'm shaping a little bit that's a very strong ball this is a very
weak ball i'm just bowling in a very high friction environment so that shot where i juiced it through the fronts it had absolutely no chance to carry that 10 pin but when i am a little bit softer i like it a lot on the fresh so far for these high friction environments now we're going to get back on the lanes on lane one i'm going to almost start chasing a left to see what it feels like how it rolls how it goes through the pins how it interacts with the pins because one of the things i really liked about the iq torsion and i keep going
back to the iq tour solid because it's the one that it reminds me the most of one of the things i really like about the iq tour solid is that as i have to chase it left it still looks good still looks good as we progress left so i want to see if this hype solid has the guts to do that as well so let's get back on the lanes all right so this is going to be our first move i'm going to move like five left because we already know it looks good from a little bit straighter let's see how it looks now when we shape it a little bit that was kind of slow
yeah let's not baby it that's one of my biggest flaws right there is that when i move left i start to baby it i just got to trust my game and you know not baby it kind of like that there we go yeah that was a much better shot that i didn't baby it might have come in a little light so let's try it again i might move one right after this shot here
and we won't move we'll just stay right there yeah we're gonna stay here at least for a couple more shots see how this looks yeah that shot i missed right a little bit and it still bounced so that's that's a good sign oh this is good yeah i mean so far you know 17 shots in
or whatever so far the spot has the makings of one that's going to stay around for a while yeah let's make sure that we actually hit it at the bottom last shot we missed it let's be better here got all of it there good shot yeah this ball is going to be a winner i mean just the way it rolls plus a two-tone red
push it's only because between this the x3 and the hustle usa i was the least excited for this ball and i think it's the one i like the most i still stuck out so now it looks good from straight looks good from here kind of in the middle now i'll be interested to see how it looks when i move even further left
one hand yeah that was a pretty nice messenger one for one especially when i went over six with the x3 that's a really good shot that's a good all right last shot from here and we'll take it back to the desk and then after that we'll move further left oh i stuck and missed left bang bang brooklyn so aside from sticking every other shot when i got
that far left i really like that as i progress left it still wants to come around the corner and still forces me to be a little bit more aggressive that very first shot when i kind of babied it because i was like i don't know if it's going to get around the corner or not it went brooklyn so even though i'm moving left it's allowing me to just continue to play my game which is for me a tell of a really good ball i don't really have to change much as i start to chase it left now we're going to get back on the lanes and move even further left try
to create even more angle and see if this weaker core paired with this kind of weaker cover stock is going to be able to handle those larger angles based on what i'm seeing right now i think it will but if it doesn't just know that it's not a ball that's really designed to be doing all that so let's see what it's about all right this is going to be like another five or six board move to the left just to see how it handles it
oh the messenger hit the 10 and the seven all right let's try that one more time from here and then i maybe move like a like one or two to the right here oh we're actually gonna stay here because that looks good as soon as it starts to fade away maybe we'll move right but not now
yeah i am pleasantly surprised how good this ball looks kind of stuck there yeah guys let me know what you want to see compared to this ball oh miss left push yeah miss left and slow no chance now on this shot here we're just gonna make sure we project it to the right
yeah when i get it going right especially from here looks fantastic yeah seeing that i was talking about this ball compared to like an iq tour it just screams versatility all right couple more shots left here so i'm going to move a little bit further
left just to see what the limits are stuck all right another little bit left here just to see i i i imagine this has no chance but we're gonna see hook all right so we're going to move back right kind of to where we started just to see if it's still there and if it's
not we'll move back left here that looks good all right another shot from a little bit further left here to end the video all right so there's my ball review for the all-new rotor gripped hyped solid like i said before one of those shots somewhere in there
of the three balls that rotogrip announced at the same time the x3 the hustle usa and the hype solid this is the one that i was the least excited about i didn't like the hype solid or sorry the hyped pearl i didn't like the hype hybrid at all so i was like kind of on the fence with this hype solid but after throwing it i kind of wish it would have been the first one that i threw because wow i don't know if it's a case of that the ball is just that good or that the bar was so low
going into it but i'm very excited to see some of the comparisons that i'm gonna make with this ball for sure the iq tour solid for sure something like the burner solid maybe even the hustle usa just to kind of see what the difference is they're going to be there between that hp1 line and that hb2 line let me know in the comments which ones you want to see for sure and then let me know what you thought about this uh review of the hyped solid so thank you guys so much for joining me click right here to watch all of my videos click right here to subscribe until next time
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing on a fresh house condition at typical oil patterns revealed the Roto Grip Hyped Solid to be a notably weaker ball than its core specifications might suggest, making it an excellent fit for medium oil environments. Independent reviewers observed that the ball demonstrated early, rounded motion characteristics and required a softer hand to avoid leaving weak carries on corner pins. The symmetric core paired with the VTC solid reactive coverstock produced predictable, controllable motion that remained effective even when the ball was thrown with increased velocity—a key indicator of the coverstock’s reaction to friction.
As independent testing progressed and reviewers moved their breakpoint further left, the Hyped Solid continued to deliver versatility without requiring dramatic changes to release or approach. The ball maintained its shape through the pins and resisted over-hooking on larger angles, which testers noted as a sign of controlled backend motion. One notable observation was that the ball’s behavior improved when bowlers trusted their game rather than adjusting their pace; babying the shot actually produced erratic results, while confident throws generated consistent pin action. Comparisons to the IQ Tour Solid were frequent throughout testing, with the Hyped Solid appearing slightly earlier in the lane and rounder overall, despite similar RG values.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Hyped Solid is an excellent choice for recreational bowlers and league players throwing on house conditions or light-to-medium oil patterns who prefer a controlled, predictable response. Bowlers who struggle with over-aggressive backend motion or who need help carrying corner pins without excessive hook will find this ball forgiving and reliable. The ball’s performance on fresh patterns combined with its reduced differential suggests it works best for players who value smooth, early motion over hard-hooking angular backends.
This ball also suits bowlers transitioning from weaker equipment who want to develop consistency without fighting an overly strong ball reaction. Its performance characteristics reward confident, smooth deliveries and don’t penalize slightly aggressive play, making it ideal for players still refining their technique or those who prefer a more controlled style. However, bowlers on heavily oiled or PBA-pattern conditions, or those seeking maximum angular motion, should consider stronger offerings in the Roto Grip lineup.
The Pros
- • Predictable symmetric motion
- • Good length through heads
- • Versatile medium oil performance
The Cons
- • Limited backend response
- • Low differential limits hook potential

Bowlers Say
Bowlers consistently praise the Hyped Solid for its smooth, controllable motion and versatility. The ball excels on house shots and medium oil patterns, offering predictable arc shape without over-reaction. Many compare it to the IQ Tour but stronger, making it ideal for benchmark use and transitioning when higher-end equipment becomes too aggressive.

Bowlers frequently mention:
The Hyped Solid is the newest ball in the HP2 line for Roto Grip. This ball is going to be a step above the hustles and burners but a step below the idols and Wolverine dark moss. What I found with this ball is its going to be a smooth shape and be similar to an IQ Tour based on the diff. This ball is going to give me moderate length and a smooth transition off the spot. If you have a heavier hand or slower ball speed this is going to be a good ball to through on house shots and medium light patterns. This ball is a great bang for your buck whether you are somewhat new to bowling or an experienced league bowler. Alex Thomes #StormNation #StrikingWorldwide #SquadRG #Driven2Bowl

The new benchmark shape from Roto Grip is the Hyped Solid! This ball features the VTC Solid Coverstock wrapped around the Hyped Core! This will give you the perfect motion throughout the whole lane! My Hyped Solid is drilled Pin Down under my bridge and gives me a smooth motion for the fresh lane conditions hard or easier to keep you in play! The Hyped Pearl and Hybrid are both great but at times maybe to much downlane where this Hyped Solid will give you that smooth motion to calm down the backend! Hey Y'all.. Stefanie Johnson here.. this is by far my favorite Hyped out of the three. It surpassed the Pearl! It's perfect for me on lighter to medium patterns where I can close my angles and play straighter (which I love)!

Roto Grip’s new Hyped Solid is a Solid Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium lane conditions. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Drilled it with the Pin above the Bridge and the CG kicked out 1 ½”. It starts up in the mid lane with a smooth continuous backend. I compared this to the Hustle USA and this was earlier and smoother on the backend. Good piece to start a block to get the smooth motion on the backend.

The Hyped Solid features the VTC Solid coverstock at a 3000 grit finish, and the Hyped core at a 2.52 RG, and a .036 differential in 15 pounds. As it shares the same coverstock, the Hyped Solid is very reminiscent of the Hustle Camo, however the extra strength out of the core gives it a stronger roll overall. It has the same clean, but rolly and round shape throughout the lane. The Hyped Solid’s most notable feature is the calm and consistent roll, it doesn’t seem to really rev up at any point and take off, nor does it kind of lope down the lane. It hits the lane and has a very stable and continuous roll, but doesn’t necessarily roll strong or heavily, it allows you to control the overall reaction and is constantly ready to do what you want it to. It’s medium strength, not quite as strong or early as the IQ Tour Solid, but close enough to almost be a sideways compliment because it does handle angle better. It shares more in common with the Hyped Pearl than it does with the Hybrid, though the Pearl is longer and a couple boards weaker, they have a similar roll. The Hybrid is earlier and heavier rolling with more of an arc shape, but they’re all of a similar strength. The Hyped Solid is not quite a full ball up from the Hustles, Burners, and Electrify Pearl, and not quite a full ball down from an IQ Tour Solid, but is a “solid” compliment to them all.
