Storm Tropical Surge Pink Purple Review
The Storm Tropical Surge Pink Purple delivers reliable entry-level performance at an attractive price point. With its gentle hook potential and predictable motion, it's perfectly suited for bowlers transitioning from plastic balls or those seeking consistent performance on lighter oil conditions.
oh that one hit like a truck that's one hi everyone welcome back to jr pro shop vids today we have a special experiment with jimu we're going to test out a few different entry level balls and see how they perform against each other let's start here on my right we've got the
storm tropical surge middle here we have the columbia 300 beast and on my left we have the roto grip hustle wrap we're going to be judging these balls on three different criteria hook potential predictability and shelf appeal now one more thing to keep in mind all these balls here do come in other colors so make sure you ask your pro shop operator what other colors are available oil pattern today is 42 foot carbon it is a 10 to 1 ratio it's very similar to your typical how shot that's enough in here let's send it up to jimmy on the lanes [Music]
welcome back g moose here today we're testing three new balls and we're gonna see which one hooks the most which one's most controllable and which color i like the most so we'll first start off with the storm tropical surge [Music] we'll play a bit straighter [Music] okay pretty nice we're bowling on 42 foot carbon 10-1 pattern house shot
which should be perfect for these bowling balls now we are going to play far right and pipe the ball down the right side flan the release a little bit see how it goes i like that one too first two shots are pretty good playing from the middle and the right side now we're going to move inside put more rotation slow the ball speed down and play more of a curve now try to hook it as much as i can [Music]
that's a grip five minutes later okay now after that incident we're back grip is glued back in and we will play back inside [Music] okay so the ball is able to recover from
there however you have to throw a really slow get a hand really around it for it to snap in the pocket like that so let's try a different ball we're going to go to the columbia 300 beast [Music] same thing as a tropical surge we're in play in the middle play on the right and go inside see how this ball does against the tropical search [Music]
pretty good shot there played the same line as i did with the storm tropical surge as you can see baby swing didn't have to do too much down the lane now we'll go outside see what it looks like from piping it [Music] good shot there too play down and in from the right side i like throwing the ball pretty hard i like seeing the ball hit the pins as hard as possible now we'll do the opposite go far inside hook it a bunch see if it's able to recover [Music]
i thought that was pretty good to be honest i really like the reaction i see out of the beast as you can see my strikes were flat or a bit light so now we're gonna try the hustle wrap i'm really excited for this ball [Music] if you haven't seen our review for this vid jungle did it as well as the hustle pbr up there up there i'm the editor i don't even know that play from the middle and see how this goes
[Music] it's pretty good not only because of the messenger but it's very smooth very continuous now we're going to pipe it from the right we'll see if it's actually able to hold its line because this ball does seem like it hooks a bit more than the other two [Music] oh that one hit like a truck definitely more hook than the other two i missed maybe a couple boards right and i was still able to recover and hit the pocket
really hard now final test let's jump inside with the hustle wrap the two other balls didn't do too well from inside so let's see how this one does [Music] yes finally that one is able to make the corner make the big jump inside go out to the right and back into the pocket loving the hustle i think if i slow it down even a bit more and move a bit inside he'll hook back so let's try it out
[Music] super slow it went high nine tripped out late okay i like playing inside but what i love you more throwing backup balls so we're gonna throw a backup ball with each ball see if they strike [Music] that's fun okay that's one next ball beast time can beast you the basketball
hope so [Music] okay that was a pure one good job beast finally tropical surge [Music] awesome let's go back to the shop he was back from the lanes first off special thanks to buffa bowling distribution thank you so much for sending these three bowling balls as well as my brother's three new bowling balls we love you and appreciate you lots for today's review we threw some
entry-level bowling balls from a variety of brands so the first criteria we're judging on is hook potential which is how much the ball is able to curve down late now judging from the three balls and what i saw out there i saw that the hustle wrap from roto grip hooked the most a good two to three boards more than the other two and then after the hustle wrapped it was followed by the beast and then the tropical search yeah so for hook potential most middle least next category was predictability and that's really important when it comes to bowling because you want your
ball to be consistent and never do anything crazy on you from what i saw out there i believe that the tropical surge from storm was the most predictable even though it didn't hook that much it gave me a smooth reaction that never did anything too crazy and following the tropical surge i believe that the hustle wrap was a close second it was also very smooth and it hooked more and as for the beast it didn't really suit my style really well it wasn't very predictable however i really liked how it looked going down the lake so as for appearance and shelf appeal i
believe that the beast looked really good i love this solid color so i believe it was really nice down there down there this ball looks really nice it's a dark blue solid color it has some sparkles which barks really likes and overall looked really good going down the lane final thoughts when you're looking to buy your first bowling ball if you want a ball that is predictable go with the storm tropical surge if you want a ball that hooks a lot and has more hook potential go with the rotor grip hustle wrap and in my opinion if you want a ball that looks good
go with the columbia 300 beast thank you so much for watching jr pro shop vids don't forget about our promo code at shop.bluefrombowling.com 10 off when you use the code jungle barks should be jimu jungo barks thanks for watching the three entry level bowling balls next week my brother simu is up and he's gonna be throwing bowling balls that are one step up in performance see you next week [Music]
you
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing on a 42-foot house pattern (10:1 ratio) revealed the Storm Tropical Surge to be the most predictable entry-level option in its class. Independent reviewers observed a smooth, consistent reaction throughout multiple shot angles—from straighter approaches to more aggressive inside lines. While the ball demonstrated moderate hook potential compared to competitors tested, it delivered reliable ball motion that remained controllable even when thrown at varying speeds and release angles. The reactive pearl coverstock performed steadily across the lane, with reviewers noting that the ball required deliberate hand action and reduced ball speed to maximize backend reaction.
Recovery characteristics stood out during inside-line testing, though reviewers noted the Tropical Surge needed slower speeds and tighter hand rotation to snap definitively into the pocket from extreme angles. The symmetric core provided predictable motion without surprises, which proved valuable for bowlers still developing consistency. When compared directly to higher-hook-potential balls on the same pattern, the Tropical Surge held its own as a straightforward, readable option—sacrificing aggressive entry angles for dependable lane performance.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Storm Tropical Surge is ideal for newer bowlers or players seeking a forgiving, predictable first reactive ball. Its smooth motion and readable backend make it excellent for bowlers developing shot-making fundamentals without fighting unpredictable ball behavior. The $99.95 price point combined with solid performance makes this a sensible choice for someone transitioning from plastic to reactive equipment.
Bowlers who prioritize consistency over maximum hook will find this ball particularly valuable on house conditions. It’s best suited for players who throw with moderate ball speeds and prefer controlled motion over aggressive angle changes. If you prioritize learning reliable lane reads and building repeatable shots, this ball delivers the stability needed to develop your game.
The Pros

It’s still pretty but not the same colors as pictured. Is a lot darker purple in person.

The pink/purple Tropical Surge is famous for it's signature smell. This ball smell like BIRTHDAY CAKE. Enough said.
This is my girlfriends first real bowling ball. She was extremely pleased with the ball.
Brought this ball for my wife cause her other Storm ball finger holes cracked, she throws alittle backup /straight ball on a medium oil and she loves it, a lot more strikes and spares
