Motiv Supra Clutch Review
The ball you trust when conditions get tricky — controlled, repeatable motion on medium-light oil at $174.95. Video reviews inside.
[Music] CEO Ronald Hicklin from Creating the Difference. Today we're going to talk about the brand new Motive Supra Clutch. This ball features the Propulsion XRT cover stock. Has the quad fire coordinate that's symmetrical. Has an RG of 2.55, a differential of 0.043. Because it's symmetrical, there is no mass bias. The factory service is 5500 LSP, which stands for laser scan polish. Motive does, in my opinion, the best job at hitting the surface that they said. had the ball scanned right at 5,000
grit. Uh, it also has a hardness of 73. Check the oil absorption rate. The oil absorption rate on this bowling ball is fast. It's laid out 60x 4 1/2x 30. And we are going to see what the super clutch is all about right now. Ball looks good. Yellow, black, the nice red motive logo. We all know what we say about the first shot. If you know what that is, write
that as a comment. Just drop it in the comments real quick. Just put what we say about the first shot anytime we do a bowling ball review. I appreciate you guys watching and definitely appreciate you guys who've come back to watch again. 043 differential is going to give you a medium amount of flare. The maximum you're allowed to have is 60 uh or sorry, the maximum differential is 60. So 43 is like right around the middle range.
All right. Make a little adjustment off of that. So seems a little smoother. We'll square up a little bit more to it. We're blowing our standard uh house shot. And it looks like it's just a little long where I'm at. I'm in the wrong part of the lane. But that's kind of where we like to start with all the ball reviews and then kind of make adjustments off of that. So, we will go left two boards.
And all right, we're in the pocket. In the pocket. So, I'm probably maybe let me throw a better shot right there. Let's throw a better shot. But that's the right part of the lane. Uh ball definitely seems like it's going to be on the continuous side. Yeah, definitely continuous. You know, I think one of the interesting things about Motive is I think Motive as a company
makes bowling balls that are going to perform kind of predictable. That's probably the best way to describe that. And what I mean by predictable is is you kind of know what it's going to do. That becomes super powerful, especially when you're bowling on harder patterns. Oo, flat seven there. So, I'm close. Like, I'm really really close. I probably need to be like just
one more board left. It's one more board left and I'll probably have the slot. That's all it was. One board left. Lined up in the pocket. Good shot. Continuous. Uh definitely a piece that you can probably use either more as the lanes break down a little bit or more flatter
patterns. Cuz I'm curious to see too when we knock that polish off what happens. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely continuous. Definitely. I can tell when it's going to make that move. Like I was like, "Yeah, that was going to be just a little bit high." Um I like that though because that allows you to read what's going on with the ball. 10 back.
Predictable, continuous. You can read the lane with this ball. Let's go a little bit left to get into the friction. See how it performs in the friction. Woo! We close. Yeah, this this ball is going to be good for a lot of different styles of play. I think the guys that are higher rev rates are going to like this ball. The guys that are straight are going to need some surface on. We're going to knock the surface off in a minute.
Bingo. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that that's what they're good at, right? They're really good at making bowling balls that you know what they're going to do, especially when you're environments that are tricky or hard. Let's knock the surface off. See what happens. I'm going hit with a 2000 grip head. 2K all day. All right. Let's see what she does now. Move back left. Get in some more oil cuz she's going to hook,
stronger, rollier, more controllable, earlier. Th this is going to be a piece that if you need that control, if you need to to you're blowing on a to sport pattern, you're bowling junior gold, you're doing uh trickier, harder PBA patterns, it's going to let you know what's going on and it warns you. So, you're not going
to go strike strike strike big four. You're going to strike, strike, strike. Four pin or six pin depending on what hand you are. And that's going to give you the warning like make a move. Oh, miss left. But because it is stronger rollier, but continuous makes up the difference. Still strikes right in her sweet spot right now. So
now for me, 2,000 grit really matches up. Gives me room if I miss in and if I miss out. Um, so it depends on your style of play. A higher rev rate guy, you can probably go 3,000 4,000 or even polish. Lower rev rate than me, I'm about 350. Lower rev rate than me, um, maybe even lower grit, 1,000, 1500, 500 grit. Yeah, they in trouble now.
Yeah, clutch. I get it. I get it. That's the benefit of knowing what the ball's going to do, right? We know it's going to do. You get kind of comfortable. You can lay it down and know it's coming back. Oh, we sliding them across the deck now. Making it work,
man. Look, we appreciate you watching this video. Drop us a comment, like, subscribe. Let us know what you think. Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed that the Motiv Supra Clutch exhibits a distinctly angular ball motion with strong hook potential that develops progressively throughout a session. Independent reviewers observed that the ball performed sluggishly on initial throws but “woke up” significantly with continued use, showing increased read and aggression as oil conditions broke down on the lane. The reactive hybrid coverstock proved notably sharper than Motiv’s Max Hybrid counterpart, creating a more defined angular shape and earlier midlane reaction. On a house shot pattern with medium-light oil, the Supra Clutch responded well to aggressive hand positions and higher rev rates, delivering strong pin action when thrown with conviction.
On the test lanes, the ball demonstrated reliability across multiple game conditions, maintaining consistent motion from fresh oil through the second or third game as lane breakdown accelerated its overall response. Reviewers noted the Supra Clutch maintains earlier downlane angularity compared to higher-RG symmetric core balls, making it suitable for bowlers who want upfront friction rather than relying solely on backend arc. When thrown with a straighter line and moderate speed, the ball tracked cleanly but showed a tendency to overreact in conditions requiring more conservative angles—a characteristic that rewards speed control and deliberate adjustments. The ball’s flare potential and stronger core design delivered measurably more dynamic motion than the smoother Max Hybrid when thrown at the same speed and angle, though this added aggression requires intentional release management to avoid overhooking.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Motiv Supra Clutch is an excellent choice for intermediate to advanced bowlers who throw with moderate-to-high rev rates and appreciate upfront friction. It suits players transitioning from entry-level equipment or those seeking a more angular complement to a stroker-style ball in their arsenal. This ball rewards aggressive approach and consistent release; bowlers who can control their speed and hand position will find the Supra Clutch opens up shot-making options without requiring extreme angles or steep hand positions.
House bowlers and league players facing medium-light oil conditions will find this ball’s progression—from stable early game to increasingly directional later game—particularly valuable. It’s less ideal for lower-rev players or those preferring a more forgiving, symmetrical response, as the hybrid coverstock’s aggressive nature demands technical consistency. At $174.95, the Supra Clutch represents solid value for bowlers ready to add a performance-oriented, medium-strength piece that rewards proper technique and delivers noticeable pin action across varying oil patterns.
The Pros
- • Hybrid coverstock at 5500 grit handles a wide range of medium-light conditions without overreacting or underperforming
- • Quadfire symmetric core provides a smooth, controlled backend that rewards consistent execution
- • Higher 2.55 RG creates good length through the heads, keeping the ball in play on drier frontends
- • Reliable shape that repeats shot after shot — a ball you can trust in pressure situations
The Cons
- • Moderate backend of 6.4 means this ball will not create dramatic angle for bowlers who rely on backend motion
- • The .043 differential limits hook potential, making it underwhelming for higher rev-rate bowlers on oilier conditions

I have been a fan of the Supra line from the very beginning and the Supra Clutch has really capped things off. The new cover formula combined with the original core gets you exactly what fans have come to expect from the Supra line with easy length and tons of shape left to right, but it has the most hook potential and versatility of any of the Supras to date. This is a clean piece that you can play up the lane, shallower angles inside, or just flat out hook the lane with. My favorite of the Supra line has always been the Original Supra, but this one may have taken that spot as it's so much more than just a light oil ball. - MOTIV Staff Member, Anthony Evans
I got lots of strike from this Motiv Supra Clutch. It also looks amazing moving down the lane. Bowlersmart does value their customer and always make things right. Thank you for the amazing ball.
